Nicely done but I do take exception with your description of the Lake Worth Inlet West Palm Beach area. Besides many great anchorage's around the inlet including up and down the icw, all around Peanut Island and of course just northbound past the icw bridge from Riviera Beach to Singer Island. Not to mention there are a few wonderful marinas that Supply fuel, water and food there are also many great grocery stores along with plenty of places to dock at such Maria's. Additionally the Lake Worth Inlet is extremely wide and usually very calm. The traffic does very but the great thing about it is that many many boats leave from this port going to the Bahamas so that you can leave in a large group making it safer. Lastly you failed to mention that if you go to West End directly which does have accommodations for docking and Bahamian entry. That route is approximately 60 miles instead of the 74.
I have crossed the golf stream from Miami to Bimini and back a hundred times. Never had the gulf stream push me north "aggressively" and never had the raging waters you have described. Born and raised in southern florida.
Very nicely done. The crossing from Florida to the Bahamas is something the Macgregor 26x/26m is really good at. You can "skoot" across at 12 - 20 mph, then sail and anchor normally. 26X/26M draft is 20 inches. with the keel up - opens up lots of anchoring spots. ;)
That was a wonderful, helpful and very detailed video many will like especially if it is your first time crossing the Gulf Stream. Thank you so much for sharing and safe sailing.
Traveling to Bahamas for 12 years. Never even met anyone that checked in at Freeport. Very nice easy Anchorage just inside at Lake Worth. Quick/Easy in-out in dark. 50 miles to West End check-in or Memory Rock. Less than 10 Hours. No Fighting the Gulf Stream. Be careful of entrance to Bimini. Markers incorrect or missing and exposed to the ocean. Definitely need calm and good visibility.
I really find these videos so helpful to show my Wife what to expect. We are selling everything taking our 35' from Michigan. I know how much work the videos are for you two. So thank you for paying it forward and helping us knowledge is safety. S/V Teak Key
Well this July we are leaving Michigan heading south...home is gone, wintering in Florida. Wife had some health issues we had to delay. But all is ready to go...we have been living 6 months on the boat each year . Going off grid for a month month
@@randyfryling641 that is awesome! I'm 45 now and the plan is to retire and get a boat by 55. Kids should be out of college by then so I'm doing everything I can for the next decade to keep the dream alive. Sailing lessons, chartering, and anything else I can do. Thanks for the inspiration and all the best in your upcoming adventures.
Wow,, Bimini blue water is only charging $1.00 per ft.? That’s great to know , we’ll be heading over to Bimini next month and usually rent a slip at Bimini sands marina on south Bimini, but I hear that the property is up for sale and there’s no one taking dock reservations at this point plus there not pumping fuel either. So we’re thinking either Bimini big game or Bimini blue water👍🇧🇸🇧🇸⚓️⚓️⚓️, safe trip back to Florida .
This is the most informative Bimini Information video I've seen, Highly recommended for those who want to cross for the first time! Every detail you need to know. Thanks!!! Enjoy Brother!
Harbor master: time to raise prices...lol Great channel. You showed up on my feed, and one day I'll be on the blue water and truthful videos like this r wonderful. Many thanks and peaceful safe travels. :)
Do you have to check out of the country if you are going to Florida but will return? And, is sailing back to Florida a simple matter or retracing your original crossing, or are there other factors you have to consider?
We are currently looking for our Great lakes boat and need to learn navigation , and this kind of content is exactly what we are looking for Thank You Keep it up.
Thanks for the great info! You guys are the best! Do you have a recommendation as to who has the best deal on a sim card in Bimini? Is there a specific store? I saw all sorts of "Top Up" signs in the windows of the places you visited. I assume those are places where you can get more GB but they may not be the best deal. Thanks for any help you may provide!!!
Hi thanks for watching. There are two schools of thought when getting internet here. For lighter use, we use BTC which invloves buying a sim card and putting it in one of your devices to hot spot everything else. It's $30 for 15GB and includes phone calls and text. For heavy use, I'd go with ALIV which gives you a cellular device that broadcasts a wifi signal all on its own. More expensive but much more convenient.
Good documentary on the process. One thing though, the beer is pronounced as in click but extended ca-lick. Just so you fit in better at the beer store :)
Great informative video! I'm currently researching everything in preparation to take our sailboat to the Bahamas hopefully this summer sometime so thanks for some hands on knowledge. Happy Sailing!
Great video content. Yours is the only channel I’ve found that provides useful information about the crossing. I’ve subscribed! Thanks and keep the videos coming!
Really good informative video. I do have a question still... lol It maybe dumb, so don't judge me. At the end you said you were going back to Florida.. When you leave do you have to go to customs again, or since you paid for the year are you free to go back and forth as you choose?
Great video. Just found its way to my suggestions list. Glad it did. Alot of videos only use click bait which I try to avoid. And often unsubscribe when creators result to it. Once again thanks
Great video. I was there in 1981 so it was cool to see what it looks like now. We called customs the cop shop but never a problem. Music was blaring from certain bars even early in the morning, Such a great spot including both the north and south island via water taxi. Nothing but great memories and wish I could turn back the clock.
So, based on my understanding, if my start point is Jacksonville, FL it would be better because I don't have to wait the proper wind direction correct ?
Question use to sail from Ft Lauderdale to Bimini. What happen to the Sunshine Inn on South Bimini. Back in the day to enter North Bimini we use to site on the “Pink House”. There were no channel markers
Having made thus trip dozens of times I suggest you leave from Cape Florida or points south. Leave around 8pm and sail all night to Bimini! In a 34 ft sloop, we would get in S the sun was just coming over the horizon for an easy entry into Bimini harbor! As the man says, pick your weather window when the winds are predominantly southerly so as not to kick up the Gulfstream! Do not attempt in northerly conditions unless you really like 10 to 12 ft seas.
Hey Tim, I have a question for you.....in relation to your head holding tank did you install a macerator for dumping while in transit (keeping with wasate regs) or are there sufficient marinas with pump out facilities. I have a 1990 37.5 with no macerator and would like to head South....
Hands down, this video is among the most useful sailing videos out there. Thanks for sharing. Now I’m going to have to watch your other videos to see what additional wisdom you’ve dispensed.
Tim, what does Bahamas Customs charge if you are only visiting for a couple weeks? $300 for the year only or does Customs prorate your stay? Common sense tells me it's probably $300 for the year regardless of time spent in the islands... Thanks, Fantastic and informative videos.... !!!
Great video! I'm going to buy a sailboat and attempt to make it from Chicago to Gulf Shores via the Mississippi, and then a year later to San Pete, and eventually the Bahamas. Your content is amazing and very much appreciated.

Try Sebastian Inlet, its a outflow of the combination of Banana and Indian river Slightly north from the other inlet that you mentioned
Yet another great subject and video. Fair winds :)

I'm shocked to see the marina so cheap! And it's within range of even a 20' power boat too, sea's allowing.
There are actually jet skis that make the crossing here daily. 50 miles is pretty close
