Dweezil Zappa did a great job reuniting all these guys to play some of his dad's repertoire. That music after all these years is still absolutely great, absolutely free and brilliant. ..Nothing comes close to that nowadays..
I thought once that no one could really touch Frank, musically. That remains the case for multi-genre composition, but the guitar skills of Frank were met, matched and then surpassed by Dweezil. I couldnt believe that was possible, but his articulation and exploration was unreal. I saw The Hot Rats tour couple months back and was convinced that this band was not Son of Frank and 'cover band'. They are the real deal.
@@tonyedwards4067 no sir.. I agree with you . he won't touch his Dad in the creative writing process, formulating and being that astronomically inventive. He is however a very impressive performer of Frank's stuff. I am convinced of that. His guit skills are freakishly good.
It is impressive, but I do believe there was at least one tablet onstage. Still, they are incredibly tight and well rehearsed, just like Frank's bands. I think Dweezil modeled the whole project on the way Frank did things, including brutally hard auditions, and paying the band for rehearsing full time for several months before making a dime, so the shows will be top notch, and it works!
"A bunch of musicians who can really play their instruments, a rare and true miracle these days!!" Someone giving positive recognition to talented, excellent musicians is "a rare and true miracle these days". I've been watching a lot of Zappa videos lately and have been appalled by comments putting down the bands Frank used after the breakup of the original Mothers. Of course you see that sort of thing everywhere: People insulting virtuoso musicians as 'heartless' and 'soulless'. Ignorant, hateful, and disgusting.
Going to a Dweeliz show is one of the best musical experiences you'll ever have...been twice here in Toronto and it's just mind blowing. This is a bit of different line up that I saw, but sounds like they just as good.
Saw him at Manchester Apollo a few years ago with Napoleon Murphy Brock, i was howling laughing at his attics and they did a great Roxy set and it was mind blowing especially Village of the sun with Steve Vai on rhythm guitar into Echidnas Arf one of my all time favourite Zappa sequences, i get goose bumps thinking about it!
E.K I 'll have to agree with you. I've seen Dweezil with Zappa Plays Zappa twice, and the lineup was different than this one, but every bit as good. I was blown away by their sheer musicianship. I was fortunate to see Frank and his band back in the early 70s, after the Mothers of Invention broke up.
May have the name, and his dad had great musicians, including himself, to show him stuff, but what Dweezil has accomplished is really nothing more than the result of incredibly hard work. I badly need to see ZPZ if the world ever truly reopens.
The Master has taught his son well, very impressive and passionate performance by the whole band. Thanks so much for this and please don't ever stop ! We need this music now more than ever.
I once saw a show in Portland where Dweezil synched up the band to footage of Frank playing lead on a huge screen behind the band. Dweezil crossed him arms over his guitar and allowed his to solo... The look on Dweezil's face told me how much he loves and misses, and admires his father.. we all do

Dwezil, I dont know if you ever read any of these but here goes, you are truly a master of your art, having that vast databank of Franks work and you do what I suspect that Frank did not by being able to play what he wrote for every instrument in the ensemble on your guitar,. I am probably wrong. but ive never heard him do it.Thank you for carrying the torch,im sure your father would be very proud of you. And like Frank, you have assembled some of the finest musicians around,I am especially impressed by your second guitarist/vocalist ,much like Ike was to your dad .Well anyway Peace , Hippygary
I was at this show, my 3rd Dweezil show, it's been fun seeing him mature into his own man, putting himself into Frank's music instead of just reciting it note for note (like the first time I saw him). But that first time with Napoleon Murphy Brock was a treat, and tour two with Steve Vai and Terry Bozzio was incredible. I was lucky enough to see Frank 7 times before his passing.
Wow . I mean wow. This show came up on my RUclips suggestions. I’ve watched both Frank and Dweezil shows on RUclips before. I haven’t watched in quite a while. This show blew me away. The deep cuts . Wow. Everyone played there buts off. Dweezil your guitar playing is fantastic. You have your dads sound at times. You have some Steve Via shreds as I know you guys play and hang out together. You’ve mixed them together and made them your own. I’m sorry I missed the show that came through my area a couple of years ago. Fantastic
Some day I'd live to have the chance to personally explain to Dweezil just how much Frank's music meant to me growing up in the 60's. I truly appreciate DZ and his ridiculously technical bandmates because this stuff is incredibly difficult to play. However, I am even more appreciative of the way they lovingly play it. Bless them all and thank you for sharing this concert!
Merci à Dweezil et son Band pour ce fantastique show et Viva Zappa. Dweezil comme Frank sont des guitaristes qui ne jouent pas seulement avec leurs doigts mais avec leurs têtes aussi.
Brilliant - Close my eyes and I am at a FZ Concert. Been a fan of Frank since 1974. Love that Dweezil is on the planet and carrying on the Genius Music of his Dad. FZ would be Chuffed. And thanks Cory for the Track List.
I listened to a few tunes but needed to get on with my day. So, I skipped down to Son of Orange county and Trouble every Day. My eyes totally watered up then I began actually crying. A few chest heaves, deep breaths and a focus return later.... Frank's music just touches my soul in such an existential way. But who can, who will perform it ? Dweezil and the band that's who ! Please keep it up Dweez....This (Frank's) music, so feeds my soul. and be able to hear it performed accurately and live occasionally. is pure soul food :)
Avec dweezel et ses top musiciens je redécouvre la musique de Mr Franck Zappa . Quel joie de pouvoir écouter sa musique en live maintenant ; Thank you so much Dweezel
Whenever I see what this man does to inject new life into his father's legacy - the level of skill, focus and dedication required to play this music well, is mentally exhausting to say the least. Someone had to do it though. Thank you for doing it well DZ. PS - I love you SG - you're flippin' amazing.
I saw them perform a few weeks ago...was tempted to try and capture the performance on my phone, but considering the crowd I was likely either feel like a jack ass of be firmly scolded by the grandpa standing behind me that I didn't bother. Glad that there is a quality video of this tour.

Don't let it get you down; Dweezil's response was great; calling the next tour, "Dweezil Zappa Plays Whatever The Fuck He Wants" or something-correct me if I'm wrong. The point is, to me Dweezil's answer makes the point "look, you can tell me to call it something else, but if I call a Frank Zappa music project played by his son, a "peanut butter sandwich" it is still the same thing, and most Frank fans already know what it is, so you're trying to put the cat back in the bag but it won't work, so fuck off".

I discovered a lot of great music by following the careers of individuals who recorded and performed with Tom Waits, Frank Zappa, and Nick Cave. Going to track down the band list and see what hidden gems await from this quite talented band.
the dude playing second guitar and lead vocals is really good...the entire band is, the drummer, all of them...it´s hard to find their names....this lineup seems different than previous incarnations.......does anyone know the name of the guitarist and drummer?...thanks
Sean Hennessey Yes they are great, caught this tour back in November. Adam Minkoff is the guitarist. He is new this tour. I saw them 2 years ago with a different guitarists The Drummer is Ryan Brown. He has been with Dweezil for awhile now.
Qué maravilla. La música de framk no entra en una sola generación, en una sola época. Es necesario que Dweezil siga con ella, hay mucho público todavía para tanta genialidad.
”Keep It Greasey” is so well performed here! Those verses with the odd time signatures are quite difficult to even wrap ones head around, let alone play live!
Definitely different. Kind of what I expected from a Zappa. I feel like it would be wise to listen to it several times before deciding whether I love it or hate it.

Me: "I don't fuckin know lmao"
WOW, THAT VERSION OF FLORENTINE POGEN IS SO HARD TO DO!! CONGRATS!!!
Dweezil is making Frank and all his fans proud.
One of the only kids that followed his father an is great!...
i have seen his father live longe times ago he is playing like his father unbelievable otherworldly genius yesssssssheyennnaheeehyeeeahhheeee:--------------))))))))))))))))))
I hope to see his show at some point. I was given an opportunity to watch him once and MY dumb ass didn't go. NEVER AGAIN!
Pop's lookin down with a big smile! Stellar!
I discovered a lot of great music by following the careers of individuals who recorded and performed with Tom Waits, Frank Zappa, and Nick Cave. Going to track down the band list and see what hidden gems await from this quite talented band.
So friggin awsome
The conceptual continuity is strong in this show.
the dude playing second guitar and lead vocals is really good...the entire band is, the drummer, all of them...it´s hard to find their names....this lineup seems different than previous incarnations.......does anyone know the name of the guitarist and drummer?...thanks
Sean Hennessey Yes they are great, caught this tour back in November.
Adam Minkoff is the guitarist. He is new this tour. I saw them 2 years ago with a different guitarists
The Drummer is Ryan Brown. He has been with Dweezil for awhile now.
your keeping me sane. Thank you
Qué maravilla. La música de framk no entra en una sola generación, en una sola época. Es necesario que Dweezil siga con ella, hay mucho público todavía para tanta genialidad.
This vs a hologram. No contest.
”Keep It Greasey” is so well performed here! Those verses with the odd time signatures are quite difficult to even wrap ones head around, let alone play live!
Mucho Impressive... Frank would shed a tear or two of pride.
I really really like the arrangement of Andy.
Definitely different. Kind of what I expected from a Zappa. I feel like it would be wise to listen to it several times before deciding whether I love it or hate it.
FZ and DZ - best guitar heros!!!!!
Dweezil you are your father's son and that's a compliment.
. . . incredeeepbly good . . .
Wow!!! That was totally Awesome!!!
Ultra fiddly, uber-skilled and tuneful like a multi-fruit tree. Kind of an antidote to the Fall, lol. Variety is the spice.
Wow.. That young lady knocked the vocals out of the park on Fifty Fifty. Not to easy to copy Ricky Lancelotti.s crassness. Great Job.!!
Dweezil ripped my flesh ! 😃
Very good. Someone should produce an album called Dweezils Ripped My Flesh. All cover songs. 🎸
@@xyrzmxyzptlk1186 I agree , and thanks 🙂
