    So here is the comparison. Both are noisy but I cannot say this enough, the second one I do not even notice while the first one's high pitched whine drove me nuts. Take that for what you will. As for if you should get yours replaced... if yours is annoying you like crazy yes, but if you only notice the noise becasue you try and listen for it then a resounding no (as they all make noise, some are just much worse then others). Also if you listen closely to the first sound at the end of the video you will hear my first one had this same noise as the second one, just it was downed out by the high pitched whine.

      Hi. There is no way to resolve that issue but a psu redesign. Noise comes from PSU. My PS4 PRO had the same noise of yours, 2 years ago. Now it's like having a chainsaw in my livingroom.. but the console is stil alive. Some psu units will blow up some others not, in time.

    • @Kal-pw9vl
      @Kal-pw9vl 4 года назад +1

      @@drsembee Damn. Do you think newer units down the line will have a better psu? Sony havnt even acknowledged this problem, that obviously affects a lot of us.

    • @PartStupid
      @PartStupid  4 года назад +2

      @@drsembee - I do not think this is totally true. Or at least not quite like you make it sound. I mean just adding a vacuum varnish (or glue) step to the inductor on the PSU would probably make this go away and that is not to the level of a "redesign" (more like a micro revision to the process and not even the hardware). Also if it were the regulator chip causing the inductor to buzz more then normal that could be replaced as well with a better one (this would be a hardware revision but a very small one and easy to change in the supply chain for the future I am sure). But this is all hypothetical.

    My ps5 also has nidec fan and high resonance sound... But coil whine wise it is pretty decent. I use it with a monitor and I can not hear anything from my desktop sitting position on 30 fps, 60 fps I have to focus on the buzzing with the sound muted, sound on no sound distinction at all and on 120 fps still blends in but deffinetely higher... I am afraid the replacement would be a coil whine nightmare since I am pretty unlucky in computer parts... What would you guys do? Do you think should I send it back for the guarantee?

  • @hey_its_ryan
    @hey_its_ryan 4 года назад +2

    The first one sounds like a high pitch fan resonating also, the 2nd one sounds like the normal coil whine. Can only hear it when putting your ear up to the console.

    • @PartStupid
      @PartStupid  4 года назад +2

      I took the fan out of the first one and all the noise was still there (fan itself is crazy quite... sadly a lot of clickbait articles got people thinking their fan is the issue). Also if you listen closely the first has the coil whine under the ringing noise as well (the ringing just drowns it out a bit).
      I can hear the buzzing while gaming but only if I turn the volume way down or mute the tv, other then that the new one fades into the ambient noise fairly well. The old one rang in a way that was impossible to ignore so I am happy to not have that anymore.
      The one thing I dislike so far about PS5 is it has not forced supersampling for a 1080p tv on PS4 games without internal Pro support (PS4 Pro forces supersampling so the game I play right now KoA is better on PS4 Pro sadly).

    I don’t really know if it’s the coil whine or something else but my ps5 is ‘loud’ too. Even in the home screen, doing nothing, I can hear a light buzz (but I can live with that) but as soon as I start up a game the buzz gets significantly louder to the point that I can hear it over the game audio (even when i’m having my headset on). Knowing that my ps5 could/SHOULD be almost completely silent irritates me to the point that it ruins my fun of having a new console.
    But I don’t know what to feel about replacing it via Sony since it is such a gamble for getting a ‘silent’ one. Atleast i’m happy that the system overall+my controllers work fine and I don’t wanna risk having that possibly malfunctioning too when I replace my ps5 where it does work
    Ps. I’m sitting quite close to my ps5 so I don’t expect it be completely silent for me, but the buzzing is a bit too loud for me atm

    • @PartStupid
      @PartStupid  2 года назад

      Yeah the replacement was better overall. The issue is I am very sensitive to high pitched noise so there was no living with it and then just waiting for it to maybe get better over time. Also I have been more than happy with my PS4 Pro and there are not even that many PS5 only games (what Ratchet and Clank? really not a reason to get a PS5 IMO) and I made a small amount from selling it to someone who really wanted it. So it all worked out.
      - I am still waiting for them to make a new model of PS5 (like a PS5 update or a PS5 Pro or something new, and I am hoping they address the power supply buzzing in the new models).

    Well I’ve got my replacement and it now got a annoying high pitch noise coming from the fan in idle or rest mode, yet once u start a game up the noise goes , and it’s still got coil whine but a bit quieter then one I send , I noticed on one of Neogaf forums someone got there replacement and it was noiser I’m starting to think the only quiet ones out there are what Sony sent to press etc, now cba sending it back to get one worse or same again, so now deciding if to live with it or stick with my ps4pro and sell it to cex for £200 profit *just tested it on same setup as my videos I done with miles morales and decently coil whine and this unit is the same as my last one, apart from this one has a annoying fan noise, seriously how can Sony come out saying they’ve listened and spent time making this unit quiet yet it’s more annoying then my PS4 pro 🤬🤬🤬

    • @PartStupid
      @PartStupid  4 года назад +1

      Damn man, sorry to hear that. Only thing you can do is sell t or keep trying the replacement route like you said. I sold mine and made $200 on it and even gave someone a deal compared to what the were selling for (but mostly due to no native forced supersampling and no native Media Player yet). Funny thing is my PS4 Pro died 3 days later (2 days ago now). What are the odds? Could be becasue I did two straight full data transfers back to back and the hard drive was on its last legs. So $100 of my profit went to Best Buy for a 1TB Samsung EVO 860 SSD. I installed it last night and all is now working again... and the good news is one of the things i loved about PS5 I am a bit closer to now (fast loading, obviously no where near as fast as the PS5 but still much better then a standard HHD).

But looking at my ps5 replacement I was told it would be a new unit sent out but if u look at the screws holding fan in place they look scratched as though someone has had fan off, I’m just wondering if sony are taking ps5 back in then just sending them back out to different people rather then fix them. Ill prob give sony a call in new yr to see if I can get a quiet one, but if the next one comes is worse for noise or same as they sent me now then prob sell it and wait and hope for a revision and just keep using my PS4 pro for moment especially as sony seem to be backtracking on exclusive games coming to ps5 and now after miles morales came to PS4 and horizon dawn 2 coming and by sounds of it next god of war going to be on PS4 and ps5

I did a video today testing in each mode and will upload tonight for tomorrow (just to show normal use it is near silent, ie Netflix or homescreen, no dbs readings in the vid though).

      If you listen closely the first one has the same in noise as the second one plus the ringing (all of this is from the ppower supply, my first one just had a high pitched ring, surprised you could not hear it... it is not picked up well by the mic but you can still hear it I think). So yes and no. Basically traded one that buzzed and rang for one that just buzzes with no mind drilling ring to it.

      I swear the second one is far quieter no matter it it seems in the recordings and is not perceptible from a normal viewing distance (you have to turn everything off and really listen for it and then you can hear a very very faint buzzing). It is not bad (the decibel reader is ambient levels when resting on top of the console). The first one drove me nuts due to also having a high pitched whine/ring to it (it was just awful). But long story short they all have power supply coil whine to some extent (the loud and the one that ring are the really bad ones).

      Yeah I figured. So the buzzing is normal but a lot of units are overly loud or have a ring like mine did and those are not normal at all. I put in the pinned comment that if people have one with a low tone buzzing it is sadly normal... but if that buzzing is very loud or has a high pitched whine/ring to it then it is not normal and should be replaced. I think that is the best advice and rule of thumb going forward.
      Did you hear that the first one with the ring still has the same buzzing in the background... the ring is just so bad it drowns it out a bit so it is hard to hear it. I am SO HAPPY that detestable ring is gone.

But yeah the Series X is said to be truly near silent so it is doable if you do not cheap out... and again it is not so much the fact there is a little noise it is how that noise sounds that can be annoying (like my first unit that rang... god I hated that).

    Mine has a a similar noise which I think is the power supply as others have said.. This is what happens when manufacturers use lower quality parts I guess? I haven't played any games other than COD Cold War and Modern Warfare yet. It's worse in game but still present a bit just in the PS5 menus.
    I have extremely sensitive hearing (I also have OCD so things can bother me easily) so I am more likely to hear such things but I can't really hear it if I put my headphones on and the PS5 is literally a couple feet away from where I play. My PS4 Pro is one of the latest hardware revisions and the fan in that is still pretty loud and I imagine it masked any coil whine.
    I have until January 31 to return it to Amazon but it's not like they can exchange it because they don't have any stock lol
    I'll probably just keep it and perhaps buy the next hardware revision of it whenever that will be.

    • @PartStupid
      @PartStupid  3 года назад

      My PS4 Pro does it too. The fan noise just covers it up so I never noticed. Seems like the same exact part too. From my understanding they should have used a part rated higher and that would have lowered the noise (the one they used is being used right up to limit thus why it is causing so much noise). But again that is just my limited understanding of it.

But you are still doing weird things like totally discounting what people say (I get people are an irrational lot sometimes but there is enough video evidence of this issue that I find it crazy that you think the way you do on this... but we all have different levels of reasoning and understanding of the topic/hardware).
      - So to close, for some the coil whine is far louder then the average electronic device and that IS an issue for those people (RIGHTFULLY so). The PS5 should NOT be a lot louder then the Xbox Series X for example. Basically the same hardware so if you get one that is loud and it annoys you then there is an issue... full stop. The only noise my PS5 makes is the disc drive when first starting up PS5 is loud or When putting a game in it's loud and then it goes silent for most of the time and once in awile it gets loud for a minute and then gets quiet again!

    • @PartStupid

      That must be your disc drive. DO me a small favor if you get time and think of it... try putting on Astro Playroom and get into gameplay and then mute the tv and get close to you console (the back side is where the noise comes from). Please let me know if you can hear a faint buzzing.

    The noise on ur first one was the fan, No coil whine, fixable once u can buy third party PS5 fans or with coil-rings. On ur replacement console you have coil whine, not that easily fixable. Id say ur worse off now than before.

      You probably have not see this but in comments I have stated that I took the fan out and held it in my hand and 100% of the noise was still there.
      Also I still cannot understand why people do not take me for my word that the second one is quieter in person. I find this very odd, I get that the mic cannot pic up the fist ring as well as the buzzing but trust me it was far worse. Also if you listen closely the first one also has the buzzing noise in the background... the only reason you do not notice it is the ringing drowns it out.

      Look up coil whine fix it’s the psu the blue caps not glued so they vibrating on each other

    • @PartStupid
      @PartStupid  3 года назад

      Most of them have some level of it. Some get lucky though. From my understanding on the fix I watched by and actual tech guy it is a blue component in the power supply that vibrates internally under load. The reason for this, again by my understanding, is that the part is being used near its max limit thus causing more vibration then if the chip was rated for much higher voltage/wattage. The guy replaced it with one that was higher rated and it made it far quieter to the point of normal electronics noise range. But sadly for most of us this is not a solution we can perform ourselves... I hope Sony fixes this in their next revision.

      I know they sound similarly loud but my second one is actually silent from a distance and much quieter then the video makes it seem (I think the microphone could not pick up the ringing noise as well due to it being too high frequency). The first one was much louder with its ringing noise. Glad you got an even quieter one though.
