Nice job, I was born and raised in Monterey moved since,my grandfather started Nichols Plumbing(1947) on Wave St. Cannery Row.It's an antique store now. I noticed for camping Vetran's Park is reasonable also another area Laguna Seca Raceway off Highway 68 Camping area is not bad price wise and has good shower areas. My father still has his business down there and takes a trailer and like both areas.

Love this place! Used to hit the Starbucks in Cannery Row in early morning, then walk across the street by the Wax museum. You could watch the sea lions and see the fishing boats heading out. Very relaxing!

It's been raining (sometimes 10-20 mph winds) almost every day there. That kinda weather is normal in Azores during the winter.

When this video was made it was a nice area. Now it's 2018 and Monterey has a major homeless/ transient problem, especially around Fisherman's Warf and Cannery Row. If you decide to visit anyway, be aware of your surroundings at ALL timss. Keep your cell phone out of site, your wallet in your front pocket. Ladies, don't carry a purse. If you bicycle, don't leave your bike unattended even if locked, they have bolt cutters. If asked for money, NEVER get out your wallet to retrieve a dollar...they will grab your wallet and leave you holding the dollar.. Enjoy your stay!

I noticed there was no warning of the gangs from the Central Valley, Hollister, San Jose, Santa Cruz, Gilroy, Watsonville, Salinas, or Spreckles coming into town at night and starting fights around the handful of clubs.
How about the homeless that flop in those "near by parks" and MPC grounds?
Did they ever solve that murder of the Monterey High kid out by Lovers' Point? Taking early morning pictures for a senior project? How about that little girl walking her dog out by Schoonover Park in Marina?
No mention of the Oriental massage parlors and porn theaters in Seaside and Monterey. I'm sure the young adults would enjoy them.

Asian massage parlors are everywhere, they are here buying all the homes and businesses. Wake up

Retired Army but then again what city doesn't have those criminals hangin around...

      Retired Army
It's a shame to hear an area like that has gangs and brawlers coming in at night and fighting and I'm sure that's bad for the tourist industry as well as making the people who live there feel really unsafe...
It sounds like they don't have enough policemen patrolling that area.
I also would not want to live where there's a bunch of massage parlors but I think those are cropping up everywhere regretfully...
I'm not sure what you meant about the girl walking the dog.
As for the homeless people... that is a really weird topic because there's homeless all over the country.. more than ever before.
Not all of them started out as drug addicts and/ or low life's... about 6 years ago reporter Lisa Ling did a piece on the homeless and tent cities in her hometown of Sacramento and she interviewed them.. I was shocked.. I'll never forget this one couple probably in their mid or late 60s who had worked hard all their lives , had a nice middle-class house ,had sent their kids to college... they each had their own car... and when the economy tanked in '08 they were affected by it.. lost their jobs then eventually their house.. then they had to sell one of the cars.. you could tell these were people that always pay their taxes and always did the right thing .
They were too ashamed to even let their grown kids know that they were homeless.
Many people nowadays are reduced to working 3 jobs just to keep a one bedroom apartment.. people who used to be able to afford to live there on their own have had to move in with total strangers to rent a room and many of them have had to give up their pets in order to do so... everything has changed so much it's as if the United States is not the United States anymore...
Although there's a lot of drugs out there yes... but something really terrible has happened in this country where people have to work and low paying jobs and at will companies and have no security.
They pit people against each other for these low-paying jobs and make them answer 200 question questionnaires for even the lowest paying jobs as if you're going for clearance in a career in the CIA ! it's ridiculous... they really make it hard on people just to get jobs and just to live normal lives nowadays ..it's awful .
Like many people I believe the main reason we have so many homeless is not just drugs but a lot of the blame goes to the government and the politicians who take away the incentives of having manufacturing in America.
It used to be that you could have one breadwinner in the family and still pay the mortgage and the bills and have decent insurance and decent quality food and and have some kind of a decent life... I know I'm going on a long rant.. too bad we can't turn back the clock and go back to when it was really good to live in America and not have to see so many people struggling and becoming miserable.
I think you are very fortunate to be able to live in that area with all its natural beauty.... I always wanted to go to that part of California.. I hear California has become really crazy expensive..
I don't know if you will believe this but from what I'm hearing, talking to people all over the country ..I'm under the impression that wherever there are woods nowadays in America there's a good chance there are homeless people living there and roughing it .
Kind of creepy and makes me think of these zombie apocalypse type stories... but that is what this nation has been reduced to by corruption and greed .

Monterey didn’t twenty-five years ago. Gang related violence is a more recent issue in Monterey, so is property crime related to homeless drug addicts mentioned.
