    Great video. After struggling with the vice method of removing the top piece (I had to use so much force that it was just spinning the tool) - I found it was easier to take 2 pipe wrenches (one around the metal sleeve on the tool) and the other on the top piece to remove it.

    WOW I can not believe how strong those unlabeled batteries were. I have had this item in a drawer under my bench for YEARS! it died and i just couldn;t get rid of it because it is so heavy duty. Now tomorrow i will be able to tear into it, find some good batteries and fix it. Outstanding video, great job, for a thing i have and and it died and i needed to learn how to get into the dang thing. Thank You very much, Dennis

      Dennis Murphey you are suppose to use soft jaws on the vise.

    • @DennisMurphey

      Well, didn't have soft jaws and this wrench has been such a waste I was a little mad at it. All good. Now gotta find those batteries. Thks D

      I tried to apply DC volts to the motor directly to verify it was ok but it hums and no rotation. I tried to charge the batteries externally but they would not hold the charge. The switch seems fine. I don't know if it will run with new Batteries. Shouldn't the motor run with DC power? D

    Just wanted to say thanks for making this video, just got done changing my batteries, I hit the switch once or twice when I was putting it back together and it made some noise so I’m pretty sure we’re good, charging right now. This was also one of my favorite ratchets, I tried a couple other brands after they stopped making this one, and they were either too large or heavy or didn’t seem to work nearly as well. Thanks again.

      My thoughts exactly. I have the Milwaukee ratchet but I always reach for the Skil ratchet

    To jscm3 and possibly others. The micro switch is an Omron SS-10-3 which is readily available from Mouser and Digi-Key. Nothing special about replacing it. Just unsolder the old one and replace with a new one. Costs about $3.50 plus shipping. I put new batteries and a switch in my wrench and now I'm good for another 15 years.

    Just wanted to let people know if they’re not good with soldering you can buy the 18650 batteries with tabs already attached that way you really only have to solder one spot at the bottom of the two batteries using the existing tabs that are already soldered for you, instead of having to solder 4 spots, (the end of each battery), just an option that might help some people out.

    Excellent tutorial video!! I have some schooling in engineering but never, NEVER have seen or imagined EINSTEINS theory would be so real and usable! It blows my engineering mind that the weight of electrons can actually be measured on such a simple device as a gram scale! Thank you for enlightening me!

    Just completed my repair, and have to say it was VERY hard to unscrew the top: then the tiny allen head screws underneath the metal shield was the second issue: luckily the smallest allen key I had worked on that. The real question is that there are SOOO many 18650 batteries available. They range in capacity from 1300mah to 3500mah, and from 4Amp to 20Amp draw. I tried to look up the LG batteries that were in the tool, but there was no model number I could find. I ended up with some inexpensive Samsung batteries, 2600mah, 5.2 amp. But still unsure of what I replaced and whether it would have helped to pony up for higher capacity and higher output. Thanks!

    I wish you would edit the beginning to say that you’re going to do NOTHING with the trigger switch.
    I have the trigger switch problem, and watching this lost 20 minutes of my life I can’t get back.

    Would you happen to have a link for the batteries I could replace for this skil tool?

    • @toolgearbandits7223
      @toolgearbandits7223  4 года назад +1

      Don't have a link as I bought them long ago. They are just standard size 18650 battery. Just get a brand name 18650 and you should be fine
