    We had a power outage the other day and my wife needed to charge her phone. She was about to go out to her car and use her car charger, but I remembered that all my Skil batteries have USB ports on them and can be used as portable power banks. So we were BOTH able to charge our phones during the power outage, and not have to go out to the car in the cold rainy weather to charge our phones. 👍👍

    I had an old skill drill given to me and I never used it until my craftsman drill broke and I used it and it ran like a dream for a 20 year old drill and it did not struggle like the craftsman drill did so I decided to slowly switch to skil because of the old drill l and so far the new 12v skils bought have been great I'm getting 20v soon but I figured I'd try them all.

    Dusting off my MBA, it's beginning to look like Chervon is redefining the power tool category. At the "low" end, they are using SKIL (which I personally have owned since 2022 ) to crowd out lower-end DIY tools and "prosumer" (looking at you, Ryobi -- which I've owned since 2009) brands with more performance/warranty per dollar. At the "high" end, FLEX appears to be challenging Milwaukee (which I personally have owned since 1986) and DeWalt with 24 volt more-muscle-per-dollar offerings and the Founders lifetime warranty to unfreeze loyal DeWalt/Milwaukee users. If they succeed, power tools will consist of Amazon house brands for the occasional user, prosumer, and "super-pro". Chervon concedes the occasional users to Amazon (and makes private-label tools for Amazon) and dominates prosumer and "super-pro" with SKIL and FLEX. Their only weakness is no distribution through Home Depot. Will they pull ot off? Stay tuned...

    The new SKIL line looks really great. They seem to really get it and have a good sense of direction unlike some companies “RIGID” 😂 but I gotta say it seems like they’re abandoning the cordless SKILSAW line. I really hope they go back and focus more on that and really look at upgrading their current TRUEHVL batteries. I love them but I know a lot of people don’t and if they could just bring stack lithium technology to that platform it could solve the issue that people have with them being to heavy. It could maybe give framers due cause to really use it up in the rafters and doing overhead work. I think every serious carpenter and framer would appreciate a saw that they can have pride in like the mag 77 instead of just another plastic here today gone tomorrow latest fad saw that ends up being disposable and thrown away in 2 or 3 years. Don’t get me wrong there are plenty of plastic saws that I absolutely love, but compared to the Skilsaw mag 77 they just don’t have that nostalgia, and class of craftsmanship that instills pride of ownership with them. I really hope they don’t abandon that line and they keep adding to it and improving it. I really thought by now they’d have a cordless miter saw out and would be using the technology with those batteries in the Skilsaw line instead of going the disposable route.

    Ring lights on the front of the impact and drill seemed like a neat idea,... until I used one. While single handed is nice, as soon as you grab the screw sleeve and guide the tip to the designated spot, or just steady the tip of the screw, your hand is blocking All of the lights. Having the light on the bottom of the handle is actually a better location. The manufacturers should have simply added a few more bulbs or made the single bulb a bit larger/brighter.

    Some companies (Makita, Skill, Flex) have figured out the dust problem on a worm drive saw. I can't believe it's taken 75 years for them to figure out how to put a dust port on a worm drive saw. I would never, never use a left blade saw without a dust port, because the sawdust blows straight back in your face. I just found the Flex 6 1/2" worm drive saw with a dust port on it, although it's actually a belt drive saw.

    I am overjoyed to see that Skil understands the market they are trying to sell to and is actually developing tools to address the specific needs and challenges of the prosumer/DIYer, rather than just making cheaper versions of their pro-line cousin, Flex, like some other tool companies do. If Skil can up their game by seriously expanding their line this next year, it might finally be time to pull the trigger on ditching my underpowered lime green machines.
    P.S. A shame Skil doesn't seem to be running any Black Friday sales, but I think they're also the only brand actually launching new tools during the holiday, so that's something.

    A question for my European tool addicts: how does Skil compare with what's easily available in Europe, especially with the likes of Parkside, Erbauer for the hobbyst up to Bosch or Metabo (Not Metabo HPC). I'm looking for a corded angle grinder for home use, and I saw Skill has something I like for a good price... wondering if it's worth to spend twice as much on a Bosh... or DeWalt...

    • @starseeddeluxe
      @starseeddeluxe 10 месяцев назад

      I would personally only buy Skillsaw circular saws, and not any "Skil" power tools. Rigid, Dewalt, Makita and Bosch are probably going to have the most reliable angle grinders. Milwaukee isn't a very reliable tool. Harbor Freight has the new "Hercules" tool line, and they appear to be just as good or better than Milwaukee, and are actually commercial quality, so that's worth checking out. Skil isn't really proven, they've never been known for having long lasting tools, so it's not clear what their level of quality is. "Skillsaw" is a commercial quality tool, and is different than "Skil."

    • @bassmanjura

      I have several brushless Skil tools and I have bought them mainly because of the price. But I am really surprised and happy with them. Going to Makita/Bosh/Milwaukee/Dewalt would cost me 3x as much. If I would use tools for my daily work I would go for Bosh or Makita here in Europe. Milwaukee does not provide good guarantee and reparability and Metabo/Hikoki does not have a good coverage in many European countries. Lidl Parkside products are great value, but in many countries Lidl does not have e-shop, so you have to wait till they will have the tool that you want in the shop, that can take months. In countries where they have e-shop it is no brainer for DIY. They have Performance line up, which are brushless tool and these are actually decent machines. I don't live in country with Lidl e-shop, so I went for second best for DIY - Skil. In the shop where I am buying the tools, they have also Ryobi and from the feel, Skil looks as much better product, usually 20-30% cheaper.

    • @johnadams3800

      It's not the source of light, but the frequency of the light itself which have profound impacts upon our well being. Most indoor leds run into the cool white spectrum (5500-6500 k) which contains virtually no red light, and red light is very important to maintaining one's circadian rhythm, just as blue light is. Incandescents, by default, have a decent amount of red light in them, which is why they are more psychologically comforting (as is firelight, for that matter, and for the same reasons) than your cool spectrum leds.
