    Aa a woodworker who makes custom furniture, i use the Bosch 12V with the flexiclick feature. Its the perfect amount of power for assembly and fastening without overdriving. I don't care about raw power as nobody is going to realistically drive a giant lag screw into a deck with a small 12v. A 12v is meant for finesse and control thus raw power and speed means very little. Bosch knows how to make a 12v for 12v specific applications.

      The Chameleon has the call it is a great tool. I’ve reviewed that and for the most part I do like that tool. The drill is similar to that tool but less versatile just because it doesn’t have the different chucks. The impact driver isn’t great in my opinion though. The handle is almost entirely vertical and it makes the tool awkward. Then it is really underpowered compared to the competition. I can understand that some people might like the less power for certain jobs but I don’t feel like the control and precision on other impact drivers is lacking.

    I have both the dewalt and milwaukee 12v systems; using the 5ah batteries on the dewalt tools gives them quite a chonky boost in power. While I do like the M12 system, I mostly use the 12v dewalts for tools like drills because the grip is much more comfortable.

    I decided to replace my old 12 Matco brushed driver drill with the Milwaukee 12v line last fall and have not been disappointed. I got all tools in kits on deals so nothing was paid full price for and I’ve extra batteries and chargers to boot. Ended up with 2 of the newest brushless impact drivers the hammer drill and a brushed driver drill and impact driver. They’re all upgrades the only thing I miss is the quick change collet on the matco driver drill. But normal chucks work for a broader range of bits so it’s just a change. I ended up giving the brushed impact driver to my teen as his first power tool. I use one of the series 3 impact drivers at work for most small fasteners and really enjoy the brushless impact driver/hammer drill kit for at home use. It’s never let me down and flawlessly helped me build a wooden play structure for my children.

    Thanks for doing all of those tests. It was a very good review. Having bought 12 volt because of the compactness, I wouldn't go for the Skil. It would either be Milwaukee or Bosch due to size. If you buy Bosch in the brushless, they are close to the price of the Milwaukee (In Australia, not sure about the US etc). I bought Milwaukee and as an older person with arthritis in my hands, this tool gave me a great amount of control and ability to do things with ease that I had trouble with with a bulky 18 volt tool.

    i got the Skil combo kit with the 1st gen drill and impact driver and 2 batteries for $69 @ Lowes. Super lucky. Used it for a year and gave it away to one of my bros, he probably sold it, i don't see him using it. Now about the power, these tools are meant for slow methodic and light duty jobs. I also own the Dewalts and use them on a regular basis with the work I do. They feel more authentic in the way they give you the power you need whether you slow roll it or power it through. The Skil set, it just powers through most things, not sensitive enough, is why i gave them away. It is probably in the way these tools are engineered and tuned from the factory. For me i like the feel of brushed tools where everything is more analog with the press of the trigger. The Dewalts almost feel that way, but you can still feel the step ups in power delivery.

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools  11 месяцев назад +1

      I have read a few comments recently about how the older brushed tools had better feel. Honesty I can say that I have a lot of experience with them. The DEWALT does have nice feel but I didn’t feel that the skil was bad by any means. The Bosch here felt very controllable but mostly because it was so slow.

    Great video. I bought in on the skil 20v and 12v line. I wouldn’t even day I’m a weekender dyi guy but when it comes down to $$$ and those left over dollars to buy other stuff I want, skil is a great option. Not going to be able to abuse them like DEWALT or Milwaukee but I’m not doing that much to worry about it and I don’t have to money just sit there and not being used. If that doesn’t matter then spend more. It’s all about money left over to play with for me.

The rest of their 12v tools are very impressive and worth a look into, their Halo light on their impact is by far my favorite and wish they all would have that .. And as you said M12 tools are on another level in terms of performance and size, mainly the Fuel line and it’s a hard one to beat!! almost get 20v performance in a 12v tool.. the M12 Surge ❤❤ it’s my go too for everything!!!

    Have been following your channel for a while now and another great video. Here in Australia we don't get the 12V Skil tools, only the 20V. Apart from the Milwaukee M12 (also the most expensive tools here) our largest range is the Makita CXT line, which I have a few of, and we have a few of the DeWalt range. It would be a help if the companies had the same ranges in all countries.

    • @TinkerWithTools

  • @slinkytrips
    @slinkytrips 11 месяцев назад +2

    As for the quick release collet Bosch uses the deeper sockets for double ended bits same as Metabo and Makita Japan (though US market Makita have quick insert), this is why there is no quick insert as the bits can go deeper. That said the performance was well off the others especially for the price. In your next video can you also show a compact 18v for a size comparison, some of the latest units look almost as small as these 12v tools.

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools  11 месяцев назад +1

      Japanese Makitas also have a quick insert collet (a very nice one in fact). For whatever reason some companies just don’t do it.
      As for the sub compact I have tested several sub compacts on the channel and I think in at least one video I’ve compared to the M12. Sub compact are certainly an alternative. Generally they are more powerful but compared to the latest M12 fuel it’s not that big of difference.

  • @PaulStregevsky
    @PaulStregevsky 11 месяцев назад +1

    In breadth of offerings, Makita's CXT tool line is second only to Milwaukee M12. If I include LED lights, I own 2 M12 tools, 13 Makita CXT, and five Skil PWRCore 12. If I were starting over, I'd start with Skil.

      I just wish they had more of a presence in the the US around me. With HD taking them out of their stores, CXT has no in store presence. And even before that they never carried the brushless CXT tools, just the brushed.

    I started my basement renovation and i am heavily invested in 12v and 20v Drwalt tools. I completed the bathroom and one bedroom using the Dewalt 12v xtreme combo. Got the job done and never once did my hands tire out. Thought, why dont i try out the m12 combo since it was on sale foe Christmas. Did 1/4 of the kitchen and man that thick grip tired my hands. In just 15 minutes. It is powerful no doubt, but Dewalt tools had precision and control. And mostly a great grip. Power is not a personal preference for everyone, no wonder Bosch, Makota and Dewalt dont play the power game. Its precision and control. The power game is between Molwaukee and Flex.

    I own the skil set you have there, and the dewalt xtreme set, it really is close, but the skil ultimately will drive things that most 12v impact drivers cant, the dewalt and the skil is even in quality, if anything i like the skil better, yea the driver is a tad taller, but still super strong, super lightweight, and just superior, i love it, plus the usb port, and the flashlight option you can turn it on and off if you're needing a flashlight, no others there have that, and that driver will get in some tight places, and a 3 yr warranty,,i think 5 if you register it, but anyway, cheap enough that i aint worried about replacing it, new impact driver alone at lowes is 59 bucks, thats with a charger and 2ah battery, and they have updated the drill, i am working on getting it, it is shorter,, thank you , great video

    Fun fact: Skil has a more expansive 12V lineup than Dewalt. Even Bosch has more 12V tools than Dewalt. Many consumers appreciate that and SBD has not brought many new 12V tools other than 1 or 2 ratchets.
    That's something I've seen you consider in the past when comparing tools.
    Also I know you mentioned Skil has a more compact drill driver but not only that, it's the new gen that matches the impact driver you tested. On paper it doesn't make noticeable improvements over the 1st gen, though. However it still looks as if you brought the 3rd gen M12 Fuel impact along with the 2nd gen drill.

    I like Milwaukee. But I'm impressed dollar for dollar by DeWalt performance and quality of their power tools. Their drill bits and screw driver bits are cheap, perform really well and last for a long time.

    Makita has these tools in their 12v line, as does Metabo (not Metabo HPT), but they're harder to find. Harbor Freight's Hercules 12v drill and impact driver aren't brushless. Another TTI brand, Walmart's HyperTough, recently came out with brushless versions of their drill and impact driver. They look suspiciously like gray copies of their M12 cousins, but I'd guess they don't perform anything like the M12. I got them, plus a proper charger, for I think it was $120 total.

    With the upcoming Milwaukee M18 3602-20 super compact hammer drill and hopefully small pouch cell batteries unveiled this week combined with Dewalts DCF850 impact driver and Powerstack im not sure there’s much future in 12v tools. • @Techprep23

    Before i even watch. 12v lines are dewalt or skil. Depending on needs. Bosch doesn't have a strong hold in the American market and their battery in grip style is atrocious for people with small hands such as myself. And the power to price ratio is abysmal. Skil has more of a line up than DeWalt. I just wish skil would come up with more than a two or four amp hour battery. A 5 amp battery would really help their 5 ½ inch circ saw and higher draw tools.
    And before people tell me 12 volt can't do what 18 does. my buddy and I just built a 10'x8' frame as a subfloor for a shed out of pressure treated 2x4 and pressure treated three quarter inch plywood I was able to drive 3 in deck screws and one in 5/8 deck screws perfectly fine with the DeWalt Xtreme 12 volt with a 5 amp hour battery with 1450 inch lbs.

    • @TinkerWithTools

    I have started with Bosch 10,8 V, because there were no other brand with such compact drill and impact in 2007. Dewalt, Skil or any other brand with slide in batteries are meaningless, bacause they lose the main advantage - compactness.

    I think that you have totally missed the point of the Bosch 12v tools. Sure, the tasks in your tests will determine the most powerful 12v tool. But I wouldn’t grab any 12v tool to do any of those tasks in the real world. They’re all tasks that should be performed by 18v tools, especially if you have to drive those fasteners or drill those holes repeatedly. I don’t own the Skil or Dewalt tools, but I’ve had every generation of the 12v Milwaukee drills and impacts. And I’ve always been struck by how close they are in size and weight to an 18v tool, particularly the drills. There just isn’t any reason for these tools to exist because similarly-sized 18v tools are far more capable. On the other hand, the Bosch 12v tools are not intended to compete with 18v tools. They’re designed to be small and light and more than adequate for certain jobs. When you’re driving small wood screws or 32mm system screws or hanging cabinet, entry, or passage doors all day they work great and are not noticeably slower than more powerful tools.

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools  11 месяцев назад

      I get that for some these tools are used in more dedicated light duty tasks as you mention. The testing that we do helps to serve a visual purpose of the difference between the different tools since most people won't be able to try or use all of them. When it comes to Bosch, they are well built tools and the drill isn't a bad tool, but that impact driver is just not great. Even on the lighter duty tasks it was 2x slow as the other tools. And while the price I paid was closer to that of the Skil, normally it's right up there with the Dewalt. So you are paying near top dollar for bottom of the barrel pricing. With Milwaukee, the M12 Fuel Drill used in the video is the smallest and lightest drill that milwaukee sells. That may change when that new compact model M18 model is launched this month, but for now, it's about 1/2" to 1" short than the m18 drills and between 0.5 and 1 lbs lighter (depending on the model).
      At the end of the day though, where these tools fall in my ranking may not be the ranking for you. But you now have this piece of info to be informed when making that decision.

    12v tools are not it, atleast not for me. If it's a secondary option- then yes they are great. Milwaukee m12 is the best option if you want to just want a one platform, otherwise 12v is not strong enough for tougher tasks.
