Note - In the video we stated that Crouser's weight was "200 kg" - and while the man is certainly jacked, he's closer to 140kg. Thanks for the understanding
    Ryan Crouser is the goat.

He laid an egg at 2017 Worlds, got pipped in 2019 Worlds and pipped again at the Indoor Worlds 2022. He is dominant but not all-conquering. Kovacs won the Diamond League final in 2022 for example and was close to beating him in the 2022 Worlds. I think if Crouser was to go down as one of the greatest track and field athletes, he'd need to win 2023 Worlds, 2024 Olympics, and see what his talent for the discus truly is, because as a very young man he was an exceptional discus thrower.

By 1979, he had thrown the discus 219 feet, 10 inches - more than 7 feet further than his winning toss in Mexico City. And in May of the following year, at the age of 43, he uncorked a toss of 227 feet, 11 inches - the longest of his career. However, the USA pulled out of the Olympics in protest over the USSR's invasion of Afghanistan, something the US would do over two decades later.

1334. Not that the points system is particularly useful or representative of fair equivalents. It's an attempt but not a definitive one. Obviously though, it gives a decent general picture, other than some weird general discrepancy which is difficult to explain away between male and female equivalents.

hes also changing up his technique by adding more movement to his wind. Something that he hasn't even mastered yet. Once he gets that down i expect he will push 24 meters and everyone else will try to copy his new technique. Insane

I wonder if a weighted free hand would allow more speed in the shot put hand? To counter balance. E.g. a weight wrist strap.

A few things - First, this is absolutely terrific. Second, the landing areas for shot need to be extended...I mentioned this during the last World Championships in Oregon. Lastly, this could be controversial - watching Ryan's left foot on his first turn you will notice that his heel is outside the back of the ring. I am only a distance runner, so no expert in weight events. I do suspect that they got this technique approved, but it still seems odd, especially if he may or may not ground his foot on the ring or slightly outside.

As long as his foot doesn't touch the lip of the ring, it is allowable. But wow, he gets every last millimeter out of the diameter of the shot put ring.
