Slightly unrelated commented but, it gave me such joy to see Jamie citing his own paper (Raines et al, 2020) on this video. This is what I aspire to. To properly research what I'm passionate or care deeply about, to put something out there that can be relied on in future arguments and debates concerning actual people. I'm in my final year of pych undergrad and everyone is so full of horror stories about a career in academia, but this video gave me so much hope!
@@shravani.a my dad is in academia, and he once published a paper with himself, his brother and his dad listed as authors... It's not my chosen career path but honestly that's pretty iconic
I just wanted to piggyback off this comment to reaffirm for anyone interested the actual severity of the data manipulation that one study pulled (at around 6:00 in this video). Arbitrarily deciding that participants in a study who DROPPED OUT will be put in any category (in this case either remaining gender dysphoric or "no longer gender dysphoric") other than their own, is a BIIIIG no no in the scientific community and an incredibly egregious form of data manipulation in most cases. For context, that's the kind of data manipulation that, if they actually submitted that paper, as is, to most scientific journals, most editors would take one look at it and throw it out, or at the very least, tentatively accept it with the express caveat, and in no uncertain terms, to move those participants into a SEPERATE category (not lump them in with those who were "no longer gender dysphoric"), as well as probably throwing in some sternly worded warning to basically never pull this s*** again or we will look at every paper you send us with *GREAT* suspicion.
@@pending3815 Ah, yes. The classic "I dont have to prove anything😡" arguement. Ive heard it before. What ive noticed, the "I dont have to prove anything" translates to "I cant prove anything" Its funny but sad lmao.
when i first started psychology uni my transphobic grandma said "from now on you'll see how harsh the world is and you'll give up on your 'wanting to be a man' phase!". she really thought the psych course would be full of other transphobic people like her. on my first day of class, the professor asked us our preferred names and pronouns, even to the cisgender students, because, in his words, "our names are our identities and we need to respect them". i just think it was a really fun way to turn the tables lmao
there audience doesn't care about science because they'd have to actually change and admit they where wrong, they just like hearing that science supports them even though it doesn't,transphobes live in a world of copium that they themselves have created.
@@iamaphantom6905 who's a better source then the Trans person themselves. Should I demand a birth certificate from each bigot i meet to prove their name?
this is great, but I also wanna say that whether there is a biological element to being trans (or sexual identity) or not, does it matter? I feel like if someone is trans, it doesn't really matter WHY they're trans, just try to alleviate any discomfort they have (coming from dysphoria or from a transphobic world) by making the world a safer, kinder place for trans people. All the emphasis on biology feels like a deflection to me, as if it would only be important to respect and support a group of people if there is a biological basis to their experience/identity, but we should be helping people regardless of biology. Anyway, great video! That was just my thoughts on the whole twin study bit
i think that there is a possible biological reason (I made a comment explaining said reason - poorly) but I do agree with you on all other points that the only people it seems to matter to is transphobes and all other points you made. the twin study was quite interesting but I'm not going by any numbers that lady probably made up
I totally agree with you but unfortunately transphobes do not and therefore I think it is great to have scientific evidence to support and „affirm“ transgender people
There is a biological basis to every thing you think or feel. It is how the brain works. You are a horrifying jellyfish piloting a skeleton wrapped in meat.
The transphobes can’t cite their studies because either they have none, the studies in question were poorly conducted, or they intentionally misinterpreted the data and don’t want people to see. 👁
Hey sorry if I'm being a bit of a fun sponge but would it be okay if you could add tone indicators in the future? I wasn't really able to tell if you were joking ;-;
Hate to be that guy but I was the 420th like!!! Also yes love it transphobes love pretending that facts support them and will just ignore the countless studies (that are more reliable and recent) that say transphobia sucks and trans people are valid 💕
@@dotjpeg-bng yeah like they're saying "oh THEY forgot to do THEIR homework" but also "they/them pronouns dont exist, what are you, plural?" It's so annoying
Straight up yesterday in my class professor went out with a "race and gender is a cultural construct meant to pigeonhold people into specific ways of living." HAS A DOCTORATE.
do they.. think that something being a social construct makes it less valid or real? 'Cause I hate to break it to them, but currency is a social construct...
@@Romanticoutlaw we talked about that too! In some countries literally crops are currency and thats more legitimate than the USD. The point is gender identity is not set in stone its a cultural construct and it doesnt matter how you identify, just be happy and I died

oh boy, it's been a minute since I heard the "politically correct" bombshell, it seems like a lot of conservatives have gotten bored of that buzzword once they used it so much that it lost all meaning
They've moved on to calling every criticism "cancel culture" but it doesn't work for stuff that's just about helping people, that's our old buddy PC's time to shine!
Seriously, "political correctness" feels like such a relic of the early 2000s by this point. It's very hard to take anyone seriously if they can't even be bothered to keep up with their allies own meaningless buzzwords.
The scary thing is, she is mentioning "statistics" and is speaking using long words and is making herself sound intelligent, which makes her video sound "valid" to transphobes as she threw "statistics" around. Ignorant people will not question these things which is most concerning.
I've had eggs literally come to me and make half of these points as the reason they aren't transitioning. It's honestly heartbreaking. (And I don't mean people I assume are eggs, I mean people who express dysphoria and a desire to be a different gender, directly)
But when trans people use big words and statistics to prove their identities are valid, suddenly these people don't understand big words or believe those studies are somehow wrong. It's a weird double standard.
Videos like that really annoy me because she has such an air of authority that if I was on the fence about trans topics, I might actually believe her! 😤 it scares me thinking about how many people’s lives were made miserable because of that woman’s video.
Yeah. That is why video's like this, that react to those transphobic videos, are so important. Because even tho it might not reach everyone negatively affected by it, it will reach a small amount of people and make their lives a little better.
So many people scare me with the size of their audience and the depth of their stupidity like there's this RUclipsr I like to watch I agree with him politically on a lot of things I also live in the same country as him and recently our government passed a bill allowing kids as young as 4 years old identify as their correct gender whatever that might be and he lost it acting like kids would be put on irreversible treatments and a bunch of people in the comment section were screeching about how the government was going to scrap the age of consent laws next which was incredibly terrifying that people can be that stupid
Exactly!! Many people without some scientific background might not stop to realize that she wasn't citing anything. It's all too easy to just follow along with charismatic people when you haven't learned how to question them.

I hate how much they use the term “sex” when the whole time that’s not we’re talking about we’re talking about “G E N D E R” which is completely different, you should know
Yes, sex is biological, you can change sex with hormones but gender is interchangeable at any time. I’ve had to argue with many transphobic people over how sex and gender are different. I’ve also seen someone one the internet saying they are trans to they can’t be transphobic, while screaming at people for using neopronouns because apparently your gender needs to relate with your pronouns
I have some trans friends at school. They really understand me, and I'm able to talk about my depression, Dysphoria, and limits on self expression without people getting confused
I agree but by watching this video, if someone who is transphobic tries to tell you these facts, you now know what to say to them. By watching this video, you are arming yourself against transphobes and maybe you can be the one to change somebody's mind
Nah, nah. Those are still needed to some extent. Open-minded people will look for perspectives outside of what they were told by those who raised and educated them, and the more thorough a video is in either supporting or debunking something, the more you'll be able to convince someone their initial bias might, in have, been a bias. Source : My life, unironically.
I'm probably in the category of people you think needs to watch this. I don't believe in using gender to self-identify because social constructs around gender are superficial and ever changing. I don't hate people for making their own choices regarding transition though I can't help but see medical transition as a form of self-harm. I'm trying to see other people's perspectives but it feels like I am getting nowhere.
I'm one of those who "settled into their assigned gender" after puberty.. kinda. I didn't know there was an option not to be my signed gender, I like myself in general.. Now I'm going through second puberty because while I "settled" 20 years ago I was not happy and never felt like myself. So you could say me settling into my assigned gender was "just a phase"
Aaaw. That was just like reading about myself, I got so confused when I entered boy puberty and I didn't get it at all (same for me, I never knew there was a second option). I hope your second puberty was a lot less rough compared to how it was for me...it sucked :P (and with some things, it still does, a bit).

On the Kinsey Institute website there's an article called "Why Do Some Identical Twins Have Different Sexual Orientations?" with studies cited. This is a separate topic entirely, of course, relating to one twin being gay and the other straight, but it does discuss "epigenetics" which can cause differences in identity, even when the genetics are the same. It's really awful that the "news story" full of scare tactics and false information will reach many thousands of families and make things worse for trans kids, while actual scientific research goes unreported by the media.
@@Zero_Is_Stopping_Time Well in a way me and my brother are, lol. There have been so many times that my brother went downstairs, made a remark about like, how good dinner was smelling and I went down and said it the exact same way :P.
Jamie just quietly chucking to himself and making the comment that 28% is actually really high for a study like that makes me so happy, I love experts immediately spotting when data is being presented incorrectly.
I'm one part of an identical boy twin and I was mainly laughing at the idea that only an identical twin that has both twins transition is somehow a valid transgender transition or something :P. (oh, and the argument they are 100% the same in DNA....LOL :P )
People dropping out of studies is really common but the way that the study you are discussing handled people dropping out was bad, you can’t just replace missing data with some value. You are exactly right that it would artificially inflate the percentage. There are lots of better ways to handle this missing data that lead a more accurate result. I really appreciate you looking into the scientific literature and sharing it with us!
I highly disagree with the title of this video. It should be: "Trans Guy *with a PHD* Reacts to a Transphobic Video". Because you're not just any trans guy... You're one with the qualifications to correct them.
I love how they say twins have 100% identical DNA. If they did, they would be the exact same person forever. Though the percentage is close to 100, it’s not 100
I think it was more funny and awful at the same time that they suggest that identical twins develop the exact same, ignoring the possibility that upon sharing the placenta, one might get more nutritients than the other due to the umbilical pathway being stronger for one of them (that's what they suspect what happened with me and my brother, my brother was about 400 grams heavier than I was if I recall my mom correctly). And then there's also the thing that they seriously try to claim that only an identical twin in which both children are transgender is valid as transgender people or something...
I'm trans male and the treatment I'm going through is actually helping my mental health and helping me feel more confident about myself and feeling comfortable in my own skin total happiness 10/10 and I'm going to the doctor today to talk about my top surgery can't wait!! :)
I grew up in the 70's and 80's and in a very small town. Our music teacher who everyone believed was a lesbian had his surgery over summer break. When school let out in June "Julia" had surgery and when school started back up in September our teacher Jack was teaching music. Most people in my grade in school thaught he was a new teacher but I knew he was the same teacher as I lived not far from him. I liked Jack both ways and as far as I am concerned as long as Jack is happy so am I. He lived for more than 30 years as someone he was not and suffered horrible disphoria. He and I spoke about his disphoria quite a bit even though I was at least 15 years younger, because of how I was raised. My parents only wanted boys and I came along a little girl. I am happy as I am but that does not mean everyone is. And NO ONE is forced to change their gender especially children. I often thaught about how different my life would have been if I had been a boy, but nope not happening. I am a very happy BI CIS GENDER. I never had disphoria and because of Jack was able to know what disphoria was before most people even knew what Trans was.
I’m gay, I don’t have a agenda. Also, all people, no matter if their race, religion, sexual orientation, etc, are no different that you and me. We are unique in our ways and that is just life. Also, the correct solution is to just give all people, even trans people their well-deserved rights like NOW. Stop suppressing this and making it a political football.
Know what has "dire consequences"? Not raising children to know they're loved without limits. Not raising children with the freedom to be whoever they are. The world literally pays therapists for the damages done to our minds and souls by parents who told us we weren't enough.
@@ahhh4117 One of my daughters is in that demographic. She died at 6 1/2 due to complications she was born with. And yet, because she was loved and doted on by devoted family, she still fared better than so many families who define love with rigid boundaries, hate, and fear. EVERY child deserves to be loved unconditionally by their parents. The fact that some disown and abandon their children because of who they are is one of the most horrendous things about humanity.
Except actually no, the world pays therapists to do more damage by being actively against self-checkout which is a human right. I've dealt with bad therapists like that before.
This was so hard to watch. Especially knowing that there are people out there only seeing the transphobic part, and they won't see the truth about the science and the facts, especially if they're parents or teachers or acquaintances of trans people. I feel so bad for the trans people in their lives and can only hope they learn the truth one day and become more accepting. I really appreciate Jamie putting the facts out there.
This woman: “There’s no studies for the long term effects of [very helpful and life-saving trans care]” Honey do you also need the long term effects of a haircut?
Fun fact, twins (even identical) don't share 100% DNA. While it is very close to 100%, mutations can occur that the twins don't share. Anyway, the stats in the video were inaccurate, as Jamie said.
as a queer student in childrens education/psychology, i am often interested in scientific material and how it supports such topics, but i struggle with statistics and reading so it’s very nice to listen to you talk about it in clearer terms!
Even for a cis person, questioning your gender is a good thing. I (AMAB) did a hard look inside myself and realized that yes, I'm male. But now it's not something that was assigned to me by someone else, it's what's truly inside of me and that makes me happy and gives me a much more positive relationship with my gender, and euphoria in performing masculinity. I think EVERY man should feel that way and be acknowledge and celebrated for it. Especially all the been born without a penis.
Day ten of telling this amazing pillar of confidence and hope for those of us who don’t have as many allies how great he is. Remember to take breaks and much love ❤️
Btw, off topic, RUclips tells me the context on this video is "antivaxxers". So the algorithm can't tell one lying anti-scientific hate group from another, and that makes me chuckle a bit. They *are* all the same, deep down.
Not sure what the video Jamie responds to is from (Thought it was Abigail Shrier at first) but, if they've also been spreading misleading information about vaccines, the fingerprinting system of RUclips might have picked up the video for it containing material from that group and flagged it that way.
Same energy as "My kids don't stay out late or drink or misbehave because I' a super strict parent who never accepts any bad behaviour" ... no, mate. They're doing all the same stuff as the kids with cool parents. They just don't tell you about it and also they probably don't like you and can't wait to leave home.
I have not found the study which many of the parenting and LGBT+ sites cite, but most of them say that gender identity becomes prominent at the end of being 2, going into being 3. It is why kids of all ages should be taught about people who are trans so they have the means of communicating their feelings.
The sad is that even people who are allies of transgender people don’t fulling understand transgender children because of videos and people like her. Exp: my husband didn’t know that child would only get blockers till they was over 18 he though some kids was getting Surgeries to transition. I did explain to him in for that that is not true and once I explained and showed him the proof online he then became an ally to not only transgender adults but also transgender children because he was like “why do they need surgery why can’t they just “play” and have everyone understand that they are “playing” along with them. So if they change there mind later no harm no fail. “ I was like that’s more less what they do and maybe add blockers littler later.
"politically correct medical organisations" Or _maybe_ this group of doctors and scientists have done the necessary research and drawn their own conclusions; you know, as doctors and scientists do... but no. Because they don't agree with you, they just get dismissed as being "politically correct", as if that's inherently a bad thing anyway.
By placing emphasis on it being "scientifically true" whilst ignoring things like ethics, sociology and the impact of language. If you want to focus on denotations, try 'hypocrisy'.
Besides, if scientism was truly a curse, wouldn't scientific and medical organisations take a hardline stance in being transphobic, not supportive? After all, "iTs BaSiC BiOlOgY", right?
I’m a twin and I figured out that I am a they/them non-binary. My twin sister excepts. When she messes up and calls me she, she apologizes over and over. I love her so much
How did we glide past that statistic about increase in referrals for potentially transgender people under the age of 18? That means more people are being accepted and receiving support and resources that they need! And that's great, that more people have access to this kind of resource and are using it! Though it is kind of infuriating that people like this are trying to make it into an argument against trans people in general
The way you break down the studies in this is the number one reason I watch you. I love your humorous content. You and Shaba both make me belly laugh all the time. But, the skill you bring from your education and your personal standards of intellectual conduct are the most valuable to me. I always learn things from these.
I wish I could've seen this video years ago when I was doing my final English paper on the legitimacy of being transgender. I had a lot of internalized enbyphobia and the sources that I found provided "information" more like what this woman did. This is a wonderful rebuttal, Jamie. Thank you for spreading more truth with your videos and research. ♡

„After passing through puberty the majority of children outgrow the confusion about their gender“ Me, a trans guy who felt much more confused and uncomfortable in his body going through puberty: No, I don’t think I will 🤔
My grandchild - at 10 sometimes dresses male presenting, some times female presenting - he loves bright colors. We ask him what we should call him depending on what he is wearing - He sticks with his name as given but sometimes it's Princess ***** some times all it needs is a hair band to be Princess. He's a kid, we don't scream, weep, wail, and make him dress in a 'gendered set' if that's not his thing for that day. Easy Peasy - He'll let us know what he wants and needs as he figures it out. The whole family is pretty much on board with this. We don't see any harm.
That's so wholesome. My three year old brother likes wearing tutus and skirts just like his older brother (me) and my family is totally ok with it. Let kids be kids :)
Yea this. My mom let me play with barbie dolls when I was young as well, no worries. I turned out ot be transgender, my identical twin brother is not, though he also played with barbies (it's great fun when people want to use the argument that boys become transgender because of girl toys, I can always tackle those people's views on this immediately by saying "So, why didn't my brother become transgender then, we had the same toys you know?", they get into a lot of trouble trying to explain it away...) Your response shows that as long as a child is happy with it's ability to explore and nothing else comes up, there's no reason to immediately grab the phone for an appointment at the specialist, like so many people who are deeply transphobic tend to suggest (along with suggesting that should that happen the gender clinics are also ill equipped to deal with children who might have been enlisted in the treatment program with a psychologist for the wrong reasons, and are even more ill equipped to deal with parents who might need to be slowed down in their speed of judgement). Should the child become increasingly vocal about their discomfort with their birth sex, yes, maybe start to listen more carefully and ask questions, and if those feelings persist and get worse, get a referral letter for a gender clinic. Good to hear there are people who still are able to deal with this normally.
As a trans masc person who had to go through puberty and remembers sobbing uncontrollably over it, transphobia makes no sense because, if they really cared about kids, they wouldn't have an issue with everyone going on puberty blockers. It's not about the kids. It's about controlling other people and hating what they don't understand.
I hate it when transphobes start talking about how hormone treatments are potentially unsafe because without them, many trans people would die. What’s more unsafe, a life saving treatment with some possible side affects, or leaving someone to die from gender dysphoria and depression?
I have been saying I was a boy since I was a toddler, if I had been allowed to be myself back then, a lot of trauma I’ve been through never would have happened.
That person (I won't assume their gender) looks like they're chewing a wasp...could explain some of the venom they're spitting. Love a cheeky little swear from our Dr. Raines
I think what my doctor once told me about antidepressants also applies here. I asked her what the long term side effects of taking antidepressants was and she said they aren’t sure, but they are sure of the long term side effects of depression which are very often extremely damaging or deadly. So even if they aren’t completely sure of the long term effects of hormone therapy, the long term effects of being transgender and not getting the treatment are also extremely damaging and often deadly. Even if they weren’t sure puberty blockers and hormone therapy was completely safe yet it’s still safer than leaving someone untreated.
A neuroscientist I worked for told me he believes all antidepressants should be taken off the market. He did some work as a consultant to a mental hospital and patients actually got better when he reduced their medications. He believes in a lot of cases medicine made people worse. I suffer from depression and anxiety. I won't take those meds. I deal with it using other methods.
@@shareathought769 I'd love to see an actual source as this is entirely anecdotal. If he had been taking them off their meds without caring for the risks of that he should not have his license. And he should go back to school or get out of that field if he really thinks like that, before he kills someone preferably.
I commented about the fact I was non-binary but scared to come out to my parents. My mum found out about the comment, and my phone was confiscated for a month because ‘social media was making me fake my gender.’ I’m telling people at my new school that my pronouns are they/them and my name is Georgie, not Daisy. Everyone, including the teachers, have accepted me apart from my entire family. Social media never made me non-binary, it allowed me to understand what I was feeling and feel happy to post myself as my actual gender before I felt comfortable coming out to people I knew. It isn’t like my parents are even transphobic or homophobic, my mum’s best friend is gay and two of the people who work for them are trans. So it just bothers them when it’s their child who is part of the lgbtq+?
Hey, I'm sorry you're going through this and I hope your parents come around. It sucks when your own family won't accept you, even if everyone else does. Much love xx
I love how the transphobic ad or whateverongod'sgreenearththatabominationis only claims stuff but rarely tries to back anything up. Jaime, thank you for taking the time to make this video, from only the links cited people can already see how much research went into it.
It must be satisfying to not only know what you are talking about, but also being able to point to both a doctorate and your personal experience making you the expert. A plus activism here.
I love how they don't argue for any other medication this way. You know, antidepressants and ADHD meds that can SERIOUSLY cause long term damage to your liver? Mood stabilizers? Estrogen treatment for women going through premenopause? Chemotherapy for cancer that can sometimes cause ARS - acute radiation sickness? The fact that we do not know the long term effect of ANY of these medications, especially in prepubescent children, and yet nobody is talking about it, but the MOMENT transgender treatment is on the table everyone flips their shit.
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. There would be confusion as the transphobes deliver their information very confidently which can make it seem real but you citing your sources makes this curb-stomp battle. You have them outdebated easily. Bravo
Just felt like sharing something nice and fun after this transphobic video discussion: I have a baby brother that likes to wear a pretty, pink princess dress and a tiara while hunting for trolls under his bed
I know these videos take more time and energy to create but I REALLY love these bc it’s helpful for me when debunking the craziness in real time. THANK YOU!!
Being left-handed, I sincerely hope that transgender people will soon be treated as left-handed people are now where I am: maybe mildly interesting to others, but not discriminated against, able to just be themselves, and with resources available to them
I love it when you put up references to studies! I'm going to do a biology degree and I love it that you do this because, you totally need back up your statements which many videos don't put, even in the description! Thank you so much for this! Also I have watched the video with your study on trans men/trans people! It was incredible! I love it!
Every time I see transphobes saying how horrible puberty blockers are, I think of my cousin (cis woman) who had puberty blockers as a kid in order to give her body a chance to grow taller (since bones stop growing during puberty). She is still on the shorter side, but just got had a baby and got married. Her gender didn't change, and nothing irreversible happened. Also, drug safety is not something medical professionals take lightly, especially with kids. In order to this "transgender agenda" to be real, the pharmaceutical companies and healthcare providers would need to be in on it. These people are dillusional.
These videos are truly good and helpful, especially when you cite sources and go point by point. Thank you for taking the time and the work to make them.
It warms up my heart to watch this kind of truth-affirming content… the other day I saw some old friends I haven’t seen in 2 years. One of them recently came out as bi / gay and wanted to introduce me to his boyfriend. At some point in the conversation, we talked about someone who was part of our group back in high school, and I learned that that person came out as a trans girl : he then started to say things like « I always thought he was weird, and now he change his sex » etc. I couldn’t find anything to say (obviously I am not out as trans myself with those people) and it broke my heart. I just want them to respect our kind, is that too much to ask ? 😢 Anyway, thank you Jamie for all your hard work 💜
I was a tomboy as a kid and I wanted to be a boy. But here is the important parts WANTED. I never felt like a boy or identified like a boy. I kind of feel like I would be one of these kids the study labeled as possible trans without good reason. Just to be clear. I am in no way invalidating trans people. It was just a thought on how adults could mislabeled gender non conforming kids as trans kids in the study.
with reference to the study about desisters (i have not read it but wanted to point this out) - gender dysphoria isn’t even “required” to be trans or question your gender identity. it is something many trans people experience, but it is not true for everyone. the much more important thing is gender euphoria, and from your description that wasn’t even taken into account for that study
of all the things that person said, only one of them had any merit, and they (naturally) blew it way out of proportion and made it sound much more black-and-white than it actually is. (the thing i'm talking about is the bit about how hormone blockers do have some connection to osteoporosis and other bone density issues in later life when used for extended periods of time, but the rates are not very high and it's really not nearly as big a deal as the transmists want it to be. literally every medical treatment has risks, but of course when the treatment in question is gender affirming, those risks are too high because how dare we accept trans folks as who they say they are)

Currently, I'm 1 1/2 months away from my first appointment to get started on HRT, and have socially transitioned for almost a year now.
For context, that's the kind of data manipulation that, if they actually submitted that paper, as is, to most scientific journals, most editors would take one look at it and throw it out, or at the very least, tentatively accept it with the express caveat, and in no uncertain terms, to move those participants into a SEPERATE category (not lump them in with those who were "no longer gender dysphoric"), as well as probably throwing in some sternly worded warning to basically never pull this s*** again or we will look at every paper you send us with *GREAT* suspicion.

this is great, but I also wanna say that whether there is a biological element to being trans (or sexual identity) or not, does it matter? I feel like if someone is trans, it doesn't really matter WHY they're trans, just try to alleviate any discomfort they have (coming from dysphoria or from a transphobic world) by making the world a safer, kinder place for trans people. All the emphasis on biology feels like a deflection to me, as if it would only be important to respect and support a group of people if there is a biological basis to their experience/identity, but we should be helping people regardless of biology. Anyway, great video! That was just my thoughts on the whole twin study bit

I don't understand how someone can say "you're not transgender because I, a transphobic person, say so" and firmly believe themselves.
Jamie, you are so f***ing smart and have so much heart; it’s such a treat how you use them both to battle lies and deception while educating and consoling all of us who are willing to receive. The NHS should give you a medal along with your PhD. Stay good!!
I lost several brain cells when she said "transgenderism" and "the trans agenda"
Trans agenda is just how Mario pronounces transgender
This got an actual laugh out of me XD
Can I ask how you do this? Seriously, I'm not part of the community (my wife is which led me to you 😊) but being disabled I have my own idiots to deal with and I get genuinely depressed seeing all these hateful people online. You seem to handle it really well and I wish I could be as level headed about it as you.
i'm not LGBT either, only a friend of mine is and i get so angry over trans/homphobes. There is just something about people reading studies and interpreting them the other way around that makes me wanna punch them in the face
Be well!
@@tobbleboii5988 It’s really easy to cherry pick anything to suit your views. I’m a huge Terry Pratchett fan and they tried to interpret his books as anti-trans which is nonsense of the highest order. I honestly don’t understand their hatred and/or fear. Maybe a punch in the face is needed 😂
@@John_Weiss thank you 😊 you as well.
as a disabled trans guy, i feel you on this. i aspire to jamie's level of being able to laugh at idiots instead of being upset by it
I am an overly protective self proclaimed dummie, so I appreciate these videos especially because I know that the bigoted vids are bull, but I don't have the words to say it and also my go to instinct is to fight anyone spreading such hatred. Thank you for both soothing people like me and spreading positivity, it's a balm on the soul and we appreciate it so much!
„After passing through puberty the majority of children outgrow the confusion about their gender“
Me, a trans guy who felt much more confused and uncomfortable in his body going through puberty: No, I don’t think I will 🤔
My grandchild - at 10 sometimes dresses male presenting, some times female presenting - he loves bright colors.
You're a good grandparent.
That's so wholesome. My three year old brother likes wearing tutus and skirts just like his older brother (me) and my family is totally ok with it. Let kids be kids :)
He's very lucky to have you as a family.
Yea this. My mom let me play with barbie dolls when I was young as well, no worries. I turned out ot be transgender, my identical twin brother is not, though he also played with barbies (it's great fun when people want to use the argument that boys become transgender because of girl toys, I can always tackle those people's views on this immediately by saying "So, why didn't my brother become transgender then, we had the same toys you know?", they get into a lot of trouble trying to explain it away...)
Your response shows that as long as a child is happy with it's ability to explore and nothing else comes up, there's no reason to immediately grab the phone for an appointment at the specialist, like so many people who are deeply transphobic tend to suggest (along with suggesting that should that happen the gender clinics are also ill equipped to deal with children who might have been enlisted in the treatment program with a psychologist for the wrong reasons, and are even more ill equipped to deal with parents who might need to be slowed down in their speed of judgement).
Should the child become increasingly vocal about their discomfort with their birth sex, yes, maybe start to listen more carefully and ask questions, and if those feelings persist and get worse, get a referral letter for a gender clinic.
Good to hear there are people who still are able to deal with this normally.
My dad is transphobic, so this is the exact kind of video that really helps change peoples minds. Thanks!
I'm sorry you went through so much, I hope you're doing well now though ❤️
No. Antidepressants didn't turn me straight. All they did was make me feel... nothing.
And he should go back to school or get out of that field if he really thinks like that, before he kills someone preferably.
agenda sounds like a new york accent saying agender
trans agenda? I don't even have a genda!
🥁 thank you, I'll be here all week
"paulie wus yoo agenda"
"gee tommy i wanna be one of those ladies can yoos calls me paulina"
"ok sorry about misgendain yoo paulina"
“Yeah Tony oim agenda”
“Ah you go by dey dem Pauly?”
“Yeeeeahhh and I have neopronouns too!”
Imagine thinking the left is causing harm on your kids, because yesterday they went by timmy, and today they go by tammy. What a world!
Jaime, thank you for taking the time to make this video, from only the links cited people can already see how much research went into it.
they act like 4 year olds are able to just spontaneously get surgery when I can't get hormones until 16 and surgery at 18
It must be satisfying to not only know what you are talking about, but also being able to point to both a doctorate and your personal experience making you the expert.
Yes. Forcing people to go on any meds = human rights violation.
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. There would be confusion as the transphobes deliver their information very confidently which can make it seem real but you citing your sources makes this curb-stomp battle. You have them outdebated easily. Bravo
Just felt like sharing something nice and fun after this transphobic video discussion:
I have a baby brother that likes to wear a pretty, pink princess dress and a tiara while hunting for trolls under his bed
I adore your baby brother. He'd likely enjoy playing with my daughter who loves her princess bling and spiders and dinosaurs too.
AWWW.
I know these videos take more time and energy to create but I REALLY love these bc it’s helpful for me when debunking the craziness in real time. THANK YOU!!
Being left-handed, I sincerely hope that transgender people will soon be treated as left-handed people are now where I am: maybe mildly interesting to others, but not discriminated against, able to just be themselves, and with resources available to them
I love these kinds of videos, because you actually cite everything, so I can look the information up and use it for myself or help educate others
I love it when you put up references to studies! I'm going to do a biology degree and I love it that you do this because, you totally need back up your statements which many videos don't put, even in the description! Thank you so much for this!
Also I have watched the video with your study on trans men/trans people! It was incredible! I love it!
As I biology student and an ally, I LOVE this video and can't wait to show it to anyone that tries to argue about this with me
The irony when the ad i get before the video says "a bag with the functionality that we women have become accustomed to" r/pointlessly gendered
Transphobes acting like puberty blockers are like steroids.
Is it just me or is the room getting hotter?
*looks at the beautiful people that accept and help people*
These videos are truly good and helpful, especially when you cite sources and go point by point. Thank you for taking the time and the work to make them.
Transphobe: here is some random information that may or may not be acurate :D
Us: can we have a source or-
Tranphobe: no
transphobes: ScIentIFic stUDieS
me: you keep using those words. i do not think it means what you think it means
Yay for facts & science! Hugs for all who need and want them. Gimme a citation; covers entire screen, awesome hehe
Anyway, thank you Jamie for all your hard work 💜
"Transphobes are wrong"
*Ah yes, this floor here is made out of floor*
(the thing i'm talking about is the bit about how hormone blockers do have some connection to osteoporosis and other bone density issues in later life when used for extended periods of time, but the rates are not very high and it's really not nearly as big a deal as the transmists want it to be. literally every medical treatment has risks, but of course when the treatment in question is gender affirming, those risks are too high because how dare we accept trans folks as who they say they are)
I really enjoy how she uses videos of toddlers or infants to make it sound like liberals are allowing literal toddlers to transition, without actually saying it, cause she knows it's bullshit.
its scary that i know if my mom saw that video shed believe every word, and many more parents. it just breeds hatred and it puts so many trans kids in danger. sad, very sad that that hate has a platform.
Being trans is DEFINITELY genetic. I'm 34, and I grew up in a very conservative home. I went to church from ages 2-32. I have had anti-lgbt scripture stuffed down my earholes for literal decades.
Currently, I'm 1 1/2 months away from my first appointment to get started on HRT, and have socially transitioned for almost a year now.
