Im a cis woman who socially transitioned in 2017. I cut my hair, started wearing only mens clothes, went by a new name and pronouns and wore a binder too. I went to gender therapy to ultimately just figure out the right medical transition route for me. I live in BC Canada, where its all covered. I realized through therapy that I was having identity issues due to alot of other things. The gender dysphoria was coming from trauma, autism, bpd and body dysmorphia. I did a few more sessions with the gender therapist and then did DBT and trauma counselling. I am actually the most feminine Ive ever been. And thats because gender therapy and access to these services is GENDER AFFIRMING CARE. It helped me, a cis woman, figure things out And that to me, is just an example of why gender therapy and trans health care SHOULD be accessible everywhere. Unfortunately, the transphobia and anti trans youth movement has exploded here in Canada too and people are protesting even in my own town. I detransitioned and found myself as an autistic bisexual cis woman. And it made me want to advocate for trans rights even harder.
That's right! People often miss the meaning of words " therapy" and "care". Like investigation, the process can have different results. The purpose is not to make everyone transition or to prevent everyone from transitioning. The purpose is every patient's health and happiness.
The first TikTok is a classic queer joke tho. Saying "ugh, I hate that i look so gay" ironically, is peak queer culture. The other two people in that TikTok not getting it just shows that they are not familiar with the culture and it's jokes.
This just reminded me of a joke a few years back - I'm openly queer and have been for ages, one of the coworkers asked me to hang things up and when she checked asked for me to "make sure they were straight". I said "you're asking the least straight person to judge straightness" and we both had a laugh about it
@@forgottenartform I had a friend that threw little comedic hissy fits whenever he was driving and got the direction "go *straight* here". I always enjoyed the way LGBTQ+ culture always takes the piss out of the phobes by reappropriating language or forking their words.

@@forgottenartform Even if someone didn't get the joke you made, they could hardly accuse your colleague of being transphobic when they used the term 'straight' correctly in a context which had nothing at all to do with gender or sexuality! These words can be used in a proper context by people who are LGBTQIA+ positive OR LGBTQIA+ phobic... and 'make sure the clothes are hanging straight' is still correct English in the correct context either way.
There's a lady, Lucy Kartikasari from the Netherlands(?) who labels herself as "detransgender." Assigned female at birth, she medically transitioned including top surgery and HRT. Then after about a decade she transitioned back to being a woman. And she is hugely supportive of the trans community. She says she regrets almost nothing of her choices. She uses the term "detransgender" versus "detransitioner" because de-transgender can be read as "from transgender." She sees having identified as transgender as a valid part of her ongoing journey as a person. It's really lovely to hear about people from the detrans community who arent anti-trans. Which is the vast majority. Anti-trans detransitioners are rare but given an outsized platform.
@@advanceringnewholder Considering that the Netherlands colonized Indonesia at some point (and my own Indonesian heritage) it's really likely she just has Indonesian heritage or is Indonesian living in the NL.
@@merilynnshark6144 I'm sure It's dependant on country just like for trans people, but definitely there are challenges. From what I've heard even less support than for trans folk. But in the end, whether transition or detransition it's gender affirming care and deserves to be taken seriously.
Hey, just in case anybody wants or needs to hear some good news: Germany has just passed a law that allows anybody to easily change their legal gender into their prefered gender (options: male, female, diverse) without any tests or anything. It's called the law on self-determination with regard to gender registration or just self-determination law.

love candace jumping from "you have to be born with a uterus to have a baby" (true) to "only women can get pregnant." she entirely skips the question of "does a uterus make someone a woman? does the ability to get pregnant make someone a woman?" yes, you have to be born with a uterus to get pregnant. some people who are born with a uterus turn out to be men. some people who are born with a uterus can't ever get pregnant. some people who, chromosomally and hormonally and psychologically, would be identified as a woman were NOT born with a uterus.
@@dietotaku So, the funny thing about that. It will be likely soon that you won't have to be born as a woman to be able to get pregnant. Womb transplants have been highly successful recently (a "miracle baby" was just born recently out of a transplanted womb in the UK), and doctors believe that there is no theoretical reason that a trans woman couldn't receive one. They're waiting because they are doing the appropriate thing and want to get the science right before they do it. Their argument will soon be invalid. How are they going to claim that "having a uterus" makes you a woman when trans women start having actual functioning uteruses?
I just got wilderness first aid certified. Part of our training was that people need to consent, for kids their parent or guardian provides consent for them. If kids cannot have medical intervention and gender affirming care because they “can’t consent” I also can’t pack your kids deep cut in the woods, they’re gonna die. I wish people would just see how deeply LGBTQ+ identity issues can affect kids when they don’t feel like they are in a safe place to come out. Gender affirming care is lifesaving care, maybe not as imminently as bleeding out in the woods, but trans kids still need support and care and medical treatments as determined necessary by someone able to make that call.
@@grawrisher exactly. There are plenty of things that kids "can't consent to" that are done regardless because it's necessary, for their benefit, etc. If a 12 year old cis boy can get top surgery for gynecomastia, a 12 year old trans boy should be able to choose blockers.
I Jewish. My favorite example of more than two genders is the 8 genders in the Talmud. My Jewish Learning has a great article on it. Here is an example from the article that applies to me as a trans woman. "Saris adam, identified male at birth and later developing female characteristics through human intervention." Yep, centuries ago Rabbis understood that there are male assigned people who medically transition. There is also the term "Aylonit adam" for female assigned people who medically transition. And they include categories that can apply to nonbinary and intersex folks. "Androgynos, having both male and female characteristics. Tumtum, lacking sexual characteristics."

@@dragonofmordor I had a hysterectomy because I had cancer. I was so happy to get it removed. It was probably worth having cancer to get rid of it. God, I feel you on being reduced to sex parts, though I am speaking from a different perspective as a trans guy who still has their uterus. It's honestly a poor way to understand someone's gender alone when the human body is not so binary as people like to think it is, and that's ignoring how objectifying it is when you just rely on body parts.
"Free speech" doesn't protect defamatory speech, harassment and slander. If a publication slanders someone (knowingly distributes false information about someone), that someone can sue. I'd argue that calling a trans woman "a man" and INSIST on using he/him pronouns for her is not just slander, but harassment that seeks to cause distress. It's tricky though, culture at large has to reach critical mass of understanding this before a legal precedent can be set.
If I ran into an airport and screamed, "I have a 💣" I would be arrested. Those would be the consequences of my choices. I'm totally free to say/do that, no one is technically stopping me. I'm just aware that certain things have consequences because I have a functioning brain.

And the parent was like "yes this is a long running thing I will respect you child and your knowledge of yourself" the anti-trans guy immediately attacked hormones and their supposed use on young kids, when neither hormones, nor giving them to children were ever mentioned. Man literally changed the story so he could make a very supportive dad for his trans kid sound like a bad thing

It’s wild how many people think trans folks are asking others to call them any a certain name or pronoun. Like, I’m not asking you for anything, I’m informing you of what my gender and name is, you can choose not to use it but then you’ll simply be incorrect?
As long as you pass as the gender you identify and not going by they/them or any other pronouns outside of she/her and he/him, you shouldn't have any problems in general
I've had transphobes refuse to use my name until I give them my "real name". Aka my birth name, aka the name I go by. They are asking for the name I told them. Often while aggressively "misgendering" me with the pronouns I just said.
Misgendering a cis person: "Can you please not do that?" "Oh yeah sure thing." Misgendering a trans person: "Can you please not do that?" "I have as much right as I want to call you what I want!"
Even saying that a woman is an "adult human female" is not correct, as it does not cover all edge cases. For example, how many adults are there on the average Women's Gymnastics team at the Olympics?

(There's been womb transplants on the women born without one: 90 succesful ones, with 50 succesful, healthy births! This is a huge step for science, and infertile women would be able to have children much easyer too in the future. Or even trans women?...)
Never forget Candice went to the Ben Shapiro school of debate which is simply throw out as many words as you can so your opponent who more than likely doesn't not naturally talk that fast can't get a word in

Fun fact: the regret rates of trans surgeries are lower than the regret rates of HEART SURGERY. Not sure why people still treat it like it’s some kind of super common issue of people regretting it
What drives me most crazy is that these people intentionally misunderstand the entire topic of being trans and then act like they are experts. While actual trans people who are experiencing this in real time, firsthand are ignored and told we don't have a right to say anything. It's madness.
I hated being called cisgender, and that made me feel like an asshole. I later figured out why I hated it when I finally realized that I was trans. I was internally so frustrated with my gender identity that it must have reminded me of what I was not. I spent so much of my life lying to myself about anything LGBTQIA+. Now I am finally out as a bisexual transman, and I finally feel comfortable.
My cis female cousin had puberty blockers when she was younger, because her parents hoped she would grow taller before puberty stops her bone growth. I don't know if the wanted effect was ever achieved, but she is a happy mother of two children nowadays. No ill effects. Just a little extra time to grow.
The reality is that they aren't against puberty blockers. They are against any level of gender non-conformity. So they are against youth expressing as the opposite sex, changing names and pronouns, and puberty blockers. There is no "acceptable" gender non-conformity. The closest they come is telling trans youth to just me a "feminine boy" or a "masculine girl." But that is _only_ said to trans kids. Cis youth who are gender non-conforming are told to be more traditional. The goal posts for queer people are always one yard backwards from wherever they currently are. And those goal posts will keep moving backwards and until they hit cishet normative traditional gender roles.
Puberty blockers have also been used for decades in cases of precocious puberty. Imagine being 7 years old and developing breasts, or starting to menstruate. Haven't heard of any long-term negative side effects of the use of these medications.
That is a different scenario. With gender dysphoric kids, puberty blockers is stopping their natural puberty from developing. Ex. Doctor gives PB for a 13 year old and the 13 year stops puberty blockers stops at 16, at that point they can't reverse time and get back 3 years worth of missed puberty.
@@cole5669thats not how it works. It's not like you can only undergo puberty during a set few years (thus missing out on 3 years of puberty due to being on blockers for 3 years.) Puberty will simply resume upon coming off blockers and will still go for just as long. The process simply starts later.
@@ILuvMoogles I've never heard of that and even if that's the case, puberty is essential for physical and mental development, so it's best to be left alone.

A good chunk of the US has a weird obsession with free speech. Like, they don't seem to remember that slander and truth in advertising laws also limit free speech. Free speech without limits leads to politicians and corporations being allowed to lie wildly without consequence.
As my math teacher said, "You can do anything you want. You can say anything you want. Just don't expect there will be no consequences for what you say and do."
xkcd once made a comic about how free speech does not mean others have to tolerate your views, and in the title text, Randall talks about how he once heard someone say that defending your position with "free speech" is really the ultimate concession since it's saying that the best thing you can say about your position is that it's not literally illegal to express.
And the thing is that Freedom of Speech just means that a government can't prosecute you for your opinions. But as a person technically you could sue anyone for slander or libel, it doesn't guarantee you'll win, but you can.

Science has shown us that light is a spectrum. We regularly refer to degrees of autism as being on the spectrum. The problem ultimately comes down to, JK is still alive and actively profiting from her work, and using those profits to hurt people still. It's hard to separate the author from the art when the author still actively benefits from it.

I think it’s so funny when they say “it’s basic biology” like damn you only did basic biology no wonder your confused it’s advanced biology when they go into he fact that gender is literally biologically a spectrum, it’s controlled by multiple different chromosomes that don’t always match up and your gender and/or sex are decided by the different combinations of those chromosomes. That’s why it’s actually not that uncommon for someone to XX and have fully male anatomy or be XY and have fully female anatomy. It’s almost like the human body has the capacity to be grow into any gender so trying to make it black and white doesn’t work
17:16 this is actually considered a hate crime in Canada! To actively harrass and purposely misgender someone is considered a hate crime in Canada as it would be covered by our laws. Simply misgendering someone by accident wouldn't but if someone was harassing Dylan here because of her identity by misgendering her, it's a crime.
This is EXACTLY what transphobes don't seem to be able to comprehend. If you misgender someone the first time by accident (either because they look kind of 'ambiguous' in that sense or you just don't pick up the clues for whatever reason) most of the time you're not going to get any pushback for it, maybe just a correction and perhaps a polite request to use the correct term in future. Which, if you're a respectful person with *actual manners,* is not a difficult thing to do - we're taught politeness and consideration for others as *little kids,* and most *little kids* can manage to both grasp the concept and act on the knowledge learned. But if you're *repeatedly* misgendering someone, even after being asked not to do so, THAT IS A CHOICE YOU ARE MAKING. You're not receiving pushback for something that's completely out of your control - *you are repeatedly putting thought and effort into doing the thing that is getting you pushback.* You are that idiot repeatedly standing on the rake and then getting annoyed when that rake smashes you in the face, instead of - y'know, *not standing on the rake.* You CHOOSE to be that idiot, the world will TREAT you like that idiot, it's not rocket science!
My thing about "sepereting the art from the artist" in regard to JK Rowling. You can see her sexist views in her writing. Hermione and Luna is just to troll woman. They laugh at Hermione for wanting to free the elves from slavery. The transphobia isnt in the writing but there's enough other repulsive shit that you just can't avoid. I won't even get started on the racism elements too.
There's so much woman bashing in Harry Potter! I didn't see it in Hermione and Luna, I quite like them but there's a lot of making fun of girly girls in the books. Like making fun of lavender for her giggling and boy-craziness or Cho for crying all the time. Also, there are evil characters portrayed as manly like Rita Skeeter
@emily79519 I quite like Luna myself. But if you look at the way she was written it felt like a parody of stoner hippies in an oddly sexist way. Hermione felt like a huge joke of liberal woman fighting for rights and wanting to be well read and educated. Again. They all made fun of her for wanting to free elves from slavery which is not funny???
I never understand why anything that's reduces gender dysphoria is bad *hiss* but things like plastic surgery for body dysmorphia/dysphoria is "normal"; Boob jobs are normal, nose jobs are normal, BBLs are normal, but woe upon the world if a teen were to get puberty blockers.....
I'm going to have a hysterectomy within now and a few years. So I guess I'm not going to be a female anymore. Oh wait, I'm childless and already missing my tubes, so I guess i haven't been one for years now. Oh well 🤷♀️
The guy complaining about free speech and saying that Dylan Mulvaney should be okay with being misgendered is forgetting that there are exceptions to free speech, namely slander, libel, and defamation. I can't wait until we get to a point where trans people can sue bigots for defamation if they continuously publish articles misgendering trans people. I'm not a lawyer, so I'm not totally versed on how all of this works, but I know in New York, it's at least classified as hate speech.
People who say others should be okay with being misgendered should be misgendered right back, even called the wrong name; see how long before they complain.
Germany's new trans law has this as a clause. Willfully misgendering someone who (the accused suspects) has legally changed their name and gender can be fined up to €10.000 starting this November.
"If gender is a spectrum, why do we have to try to change anything? Why can't you just be you?" Because while gender is a spectrum, not all gender identities are. They are typically a specific space on that spectrum, and in order to 'be me', I would have to change things, because the body I was born in does not represent the 'me' I feel I am. Gender being a spectrum does not mean any particular person would feel comfortable on any point in that spectrum or presenting like it; for me personally, although I am nonbinary, I am also a demiboy, and would not be comfortable or identify with presenting anywhere on the feminine side of the spectrum. Something being fluid / flexible =/= inherently devoid of meaning or definition.
not to mention a binary view of gender is simply inadequate to encompass a full spectrum. woefully underequipped. also as a demiboy, adding more nuance to our collective understanding of gender facilitates "just being me"
Not a gender thing, but I am on a different spectrum - the Autism spectrum. I absolutely agree with you and think it applies to both subjects. I fall on a very specific point of the autism spectrum, but I don’t encompass the _whole_ spectrum. I had a lot of speech problems growing up and I deal with meltdowns, but I also know how to take care of myself with daily tasks and am not too bothered by things like bright lights and loud noises. That’s because I’m not EVERYTHING the spectrum encompasses - I’m just a specific version of it. But I’m still very much autistic the same way people are very much trans. Spectrums should allow diversity in the communities - not saying “you’re this? That means you’re XYZ,”
Odin carved the first man from an oak and the first woman from an ash. There are as many genders as there are trees and each person makes up the beauty of the forest
luckily, transphobia in general has gone down a lot, however the transphobes are just becoming louder and louder because they're with less people and are actively trying to find other transphobes now. My brother used to be kinda transphobic and homophobic but now he's actively referring to me as his sister (for context: I'm a trans woman) so yes, slowly transphobes are lessening in numbers
I think a certain hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy quote comes to mind: "why can't we all just he nice to each other for a change" I wish transphobes could understand this.
I love how some of these people look at trans people and go "you guys got the minimum effort you guys are fully accepted and should shut up already". Like it is normal to have legislation out there to erase your existence, for people forming organizations to hate you, to feel uncomfortable using basic facilities in person, to have to weigh your identity against how difficult things are being out and most importantly face the daily possibility of being killed. That these are just "life" and things people deal with. That we should be happy with what? Nothing? Nothing because they are all mad about like any little thing we get including the right to the basic humanization of language including using our names and pronouns. Things other people take for granted.
Also still mad. The most medically invasive thing we suggest for kids is puberty blockers which are reversible other than that when we talk about trans kids we are talking social transition and like people are purposefully conflating the two. Like oh no Suzy wants to wear a dress and play on the girl's volleyball team and is upset that she gets misgendered. This is somehow medically irreversible.
That 1% regret detransition rate is potentially slightly misleading depending on phrasing. It is good to point out that it is 1% of all detransitioners, not 1% of all trans people. The difference is that instead of being a fraction from a fraction, in reality it is a fraction from a fraction from a fraction. In otherwords, you need thousands and thousands of trans people before you find one who will not only detransition, but does so due to regret. Overall detransition rate would plummet with societal acceptance and I have a feeling it would also further reduce detransitions due to regret as well and not just due to societal pressure.
For medical transitioning overall of the 0.47% who detransition over 65% still identify as trans and either medically transitioning wasn't for them, they had rare health complications, ran out of money, or transphobic laws forced them to detransition, and of that 65% more then half will go on to retransition within 5 years. Olson et al., 2022 found that 97.5% of kids who socially transition still identify at trans five years later. The Lancet Journal of child and adolescent Health, Oct 20 2022, found 98% of trans teens taking hrt were still continuing their treatment five years later. Skye Davies, Stephen McIntyre, Craig Rypma, 2019, "Detransition rates in a National UK Gender Identity Clinic, found that 0.47% of people who medically transition regret doing so.
I am a trans woman and I have taken HRT for more than 13 years. Ok it's not 20 years like the person in one of the video, but it's a long time anyway. I have never regretted transitionning, not even once. This person needs to understand that her bad experience doesn't mean transition is bad. I was a teenager when I started transitionning and I would have greatly benefited from puberty blocker, but they weren't accessible in my time. Yes, teenagers can know if they are trans or not. Yes, I was already in touch with a psychiatrist and an endocrinologist that allowed me to start hormones as soon as I turned 18 (the legal age at the time in my country, I don't know about nowadays). And I have never regretted it. Also the person said that nowadays society has accepted trans people. Well I don't know about USA (I mean I see the news, it looks awful...), but I can say for France that it is totally wrong. People were much more acceptant when I started, in the early 2010. They were curious, clumsy, but generally well-meaning. There was transphobia, of course, and I faced it on some occasion, but it is much, much worse nowadays. Now it has become a political issue, and people have a political opinion on it, regardless of what the science says, regardless of what trans people live and experience. People who have never seen a trans person have an opinion on our right to exist. For like 10 years, I didn't feel the need to say that I'm trans, to talk to other trans people and so on. Now, the evolution of society on trans issues scares me so much that I feel the need to go to trans group and exchance with other trans people. In the 2010, it was much more easier. It was harder on a medical perspective, but easier on a societal perspective, really.
@@SeaBreeze-w9999 So you agree that trans women should reject being called a man and trans men should reject being called a woman. Great! Thanks for your understanding. 😇
All those transphobes would be royally pissed if someone would use the wrong pronouns for them and yet they think that trans people should be fine with it. I'm fortunate enough that I'm fine with my afab pronouns (as agender) so it doesn't bother me to still be referred to as she/her & Miss etc - though I do have a good amount of gender dysphoria about certain parts of my body so sadly it's not all well. I feel for those in the trans community that have to deal with this stuff.. I sometimes see comments that are pretty mean spirited and ignorant and it truly hurt me to see. (I stay off of social media for the most part, because I can't deal with all the hate) Whoever reads this: I love you. If there are people that can hate for no reason, it means that I can love for no reason.

Hm. Weird.
When the British showed up they made the hijra illegal when they occupied India. There's also the Muxes of Latin America which were persecuted under the Spanish. You have the mahu from Hawai'i which much like the rest of the native island life suffered under control from the US. You and I both understand what these people do not want to face which is the fact that the concept of a heteronormative two gender society is a product of Western colonialism from a strictly puritanical society with heavily enforced gender roles. The kind of gender roles that had women burned at the stake for wearing pants

5:24 “separating the art from the artist” is for artists who are dead and not making money from continued dissemination of their work, that they can then use to expand their platform from which they spew misinformation that actively harms people
The thing is that it's not just gender that's a spectrum, sex is too. science doesn't deal in binaries. there are intersex people and people with different chromosomes and hormone levels and sex characteristics; *it is not, and has never been, a binary system.* we package these characteristics into the boxes of "male" and "female" but really, there are a thousand things in-between, and gender has nothing to do with any of them. i've heard people say before that intersex people are a miniscule percentage of the population and you shouldn't judge based on outliers, but they're roughly about as common as redheads, and we don't sit around saying the only natural hair colors are brown, blond, and black. you can argue semantics on tiktok all day long but the truth of it is that nothing, no matter how small or how cosmic, will *ever* fully fit into the labels we give them, because the world wasn't meant for that.
@@ekrtznekrtz5229they don’t. They define male and female, with is a pretty strict biological thing (obviously with exceptions, like intersex people). Also, having the cis man argue in favor of transmen being real men even if they have babies actually makes me really happy because of my prior experiences with cis men.
... Appalling actually that it always comes down to the simple fact that many people consider themselves superior and naturally deserving more rights, ease and/ or wealth than their targeted groups...
Supporting the art without supporting the artist becomes a little bit more complicated when some of the actors loudly become allies against the autor's transphobia.
The other day this kid was being transphobic abt my partner (not maliciously but still icky) and he ended up quoting the Bible verse about homosexuality being a sin lmao, unsurprisingly he also works at chickfilla
My new favourite response to bigots using the Bible as a defence is to quote a random other book (my choice is the Gruffalo), followed by, "see, I can quote a book too, and it has just as much evidence as existing as your book". It tends to shut them up. 😂
That's why I refuse to eat at Chick-fil-A. I don't care how much people rave about how much they love their food, I'm hot spending my hard-earned cash to support homophobia and transphobia. I won't set foot in a Hobby Lobby for the same reason.
I will never understand the obsession that transphobes & homophobes have with if someone else can have children or not. Like I'm a cis woman who will never have children of my own due to not only my fertility issues but also because even if I could have children I don't want to potentially pass down health issues to said children along with the idea of being pregnant not being appealing to me at all. Should my future wife & I want kids outside of our fur babies, then we would decide together how to go about that. Also every single time a bigot wants to use the free speech argument to justify saying hateful & harmful things I always think of two things: 1. Just because you can doesn't mean you should and 2. Having the freedom to say what you want doesn't mean you can't be called out or face consequences for it. If what you say leads to people getting put into a harmful situation or results in people getting harmed or killed then you will be held accountable for it. It's why if you scream fire in a movie theater or bomb in an airport you will be arrested for it because you are deliberately putting people into a dangerous situation were someone can & probably will get hurt. Yes you have the freedom of speech but that doesn't mean it's like a get of jail free card to spread misinformation or hate that harms other people
I don't get the extreme reaction to hormone blockers. Like, we're totally cool with giving them to kids when they have medical issues where they need them. hormone blockers don't transition someone. They just pause things until they are old enough to make decisions without being forced to go through things that might be extremely traumatic for them. TBH, I'm not trans, but as someone who due to medical issues found hormones incredibly traumatic right from the start, I would have loved to have access to hormone blockers.
28:37 Is... she trying to say that she only transitioned because it was easier or more accepted than being a lesbian? And that that has something to do with the young man she's responding to? Listen lmao, I'm turning 34 in a couple months and realized I was trans when I was 20. I identify as a gay man. If it wasn't for society in the 90's and 2000's preaching trans men as the next step after being a super-huge mega lesbian, I would have been able to transition in my teens and maybe even get on puberty blockers! It just took me so long to recognize myself because I'm *not* attracted to women!
Idk what kinda world this ppl live in in witch being trans is more accapted than being gay, out of like 200 countries, I can name maybe 5 in witch being trans is more accapted than being gay. Even in places that hate both, usually gay is hated a bit less hated

David Bowie, Queen, Prince, every glam rock band, just to name a few examples. And the music was so good, too! I'd think it would make them more accepting.
@@cole5669 You say that now, but that's only because the goalposts moved. Many of the same groups and organisations railing against transgender people now were railing against non-standard gender expression back then.

Me, a person from the US, in the middle of googling who Katie Hopkins is and up pops Klandice Owens. These people are so frustrating and I’m convinced they don’t actually believe what they say, they just want attention.
As a person from the UK, I can confirm Katie Hopkins is just a highly unpopular rent-a-gob. She'll just say whatever she thinks is going to score her the most outrage, regardless of whether her tiny brain could actually manage to form a coherent opinion on it or not. I still remember her stint on a UK morning breakfast show as a - well, rent-a-gob, basically - where she was pontificating about how she could tell what 'social class' a child came from by their name, and from that, judge whether she thought that child was 'good enough' for HER children to play with. She then went on this rant about how tacky, lower-class parents gave their children 'stupid' names - particularly names of "places, like 'Brooklyn' or 'London!''" This was the point when one of the other presenters reminded her "But your child's called 'India..'" Her defence? "Well no, because that's a LOCATION...!" So yeah, THAT'S what you're dealing with in Katie Hopkins.
In a textbook I was reading for school had a really good definition for gender. So the writer of the section is a trans man and he said that all men have a sense of themselves as men. I think the book is called readings for diversity and social justice.
Free speech just gives you the right to speak, not the right to be heard. You're entitled to your opinion, but nobody has to agree with you or give you a platform to speak from, nor does it render you immune to consequences for saying something that can hurt others, like libel, threats, inciting suicide or violence, etc.
This summer my family and I are travelling to Great Britain (London to be exact). And against my wishes, they (mostly my mother) wants to visit the Harry Potter museum. I’m just going to wait outside the museum and probably chant something among the lines of “JK Rowling is evil”
There are so many things I'd want to see if I could go to London. Harry Potter world wouldn't even occur to me, and the author's transphobia cements that. Have a great trip otherwise!
Fair warning from a Londoner (and maybe a helpful argument to make): if she's thinking of the Studio Tour, that place is right out on the fringes of the city and is a nightmare to get to, especially from the city centre. The transport connection is unreliable, taxis are REALLY expensive, and London isn't a fun city to drive in. If you can suggest Platform 9 and 3/4 and the shop at King's Cross station as a better alternative, it might be worth a try. It's more accessible, and also has the added bonus of being way easier to avoid going into. Good luck on your trip here either way, though - I hope the other parts of it are good!
I'm a trans man who is in constant pain due to hurt, HOWEVER I'm working with my pcp to find solutions. I'm not living my best life yet, but the positive changes are worth the struggle

I dont care how similar to me you think you are, you are not me and you do not get to act like you're my future self trying to save me from something. If you detransition for whatever reason, that's fine, that's your decision, but what other trans people do with themselves are NOT your decision. You're not looking out for anyone, you're being rude and condescending.

It helped me, a cis woman, figure things out
And that to me, is just an example of why gender therapy and trans health care SHOULD be accessible everywhere.
Unfortunately, the transphobia and anti trans youth movement has exploded here in Canada too and people are protesting even in my own town.

I wish people would just see how deeply LGBTQ+ identity issues can affect kids when they don’t feel like they are in a safe place to come out. Yep, centuries ago Rabbis understood that there are male assigned people who medically transition. There is also the term "Aylonit adam" for female assigned people who medically transition. And they include categories that can apply to nonbinary and intersex folks.

Glad to hear you found yourself. I've been called transphobic for saying I'm not cis. Like yeah, cause I'm non-binary.
Felt, man. Felt.

As my math teacher said, "You can do anything you want. You can say anything you want. Just don't expect there will be no consequences for what you say and do."
xkcd once made a comic about how free speech does not mean others have to tolerate your views, and in the title text, Randall talks about how he once heard someone say that defending your position with "free speech" is really the ultimate concession since it's saying that the best thing you can say about your position is that it's not literally illegal to express.
under their BS "free speech" they often forget "Defamation" which, kind of a crime guys. Which dylan is entitled to take action against.

Also, as someone who studied biology, I really hate it when people conflate sex, gender and sexuality. They're three different things.
I’m a couple weeks away from having my Bachelor’s in women’s and gender studies. I find it frustrating and sad with the sex/gender/sexuality thing. I wish more people would recognize they are completely different, but related, things
Trans-women are biologically male, and Trans-men are biologically female. Women are biologically female, and Men are biologically male. So no, Trans-women are not women, and Trans-men are not men. It's just reality.

Yep. Less than 1% of people detransition, and over half of them do so for reasons other than not being trans.

So they'll always be this disdain with gender identity the more things keep going this way.
I would absolutely bring a flag to wave and/or wear obnoxious amounts of pride stuff
@@barrylangille3523 There used to be things I wanted to see in the UK. But right now, nothing could get me to set foot on TERF Island.
i’m already in pain
Transphobes hurt
I'm a trans man who is in constant pain due to hurt, HOWEVER I'm working with my pcp to find solutions. I've become incontinent due to atrophy and it's an uncommon side effect of hormones that may not get mentioned in the beginning. So far adding in estrogen cream has been slowly improving the incontinence, but not the pain.
I still do NOT regret transitioning and wouldn't change what I've done at all. I'm not living my best life yet, but the positive changes are worth the struggle

Okay i despise this mindset. I get this from Christians. "I used to be just like you, but god saved me and now I'm happy :)"
Okay great, that is YOU.
It’s because they think people are sheep to be herded; especially christians. I wouldn’t even believe people who are saying that are genuine.
Yep. Apparently I would be happier if I went back to the religion I never believed in. Apparently I "don't have to go to church but don't stop believing in God". Except that's literally impossible. I can't stop not believing in something I never believed it.
I'm nearly 50, so for all practical purposes I *am* my future self. I wish I could tell my past self to transition much earlier.
i'm a christian and happy as a trans person.
