Like dude, it's not derogatory just because there is a specific word instead of getting to say "I'm the Normal Person here".

    • @fghsgh
      @fghsgh Год назад +55

Actually, there might be something more going on here. Sometimes, trans people do in fact say things like "well of course you'd say that, you're cis" or "ugh my parents are too cis to understand" and like, in these cases "cis" does in fact have a negative connotation. Doesn't make it a slur though. Just like "reverse racism" doesn't exist. But it is still stereotyping, because not all cis people by far act that way, and I firmly believe all stereotyping is harmful to all parties involved, including transphobes, allies, and trans people.
EDIT: because everyone keeps not reading the rest of the thread, here is a later reply of mine:
[...] It's about tone I guess. If you say it with contempt in your voice, that communicates that you have certain opinions towards a privileged group. And they don't like being reminded of their privilege. (which also ties in with the "im not cis, im normal" thing) And, if you only ever hear it in that way (which, let's remind ourselves that trans issues are barely present in most cis people's lives, so it is fully possible you'd only ever hear it in a context like that) then you might, reasonably even, conclude that it is _always_ used negatively, and hence it has a negative connotation, and hence it is a slur.
Now, towards allies, this contempt feels unwarranted. They didn't choose to be privileged just like we didn't choose not to be, and they are trying their best to help. Which means "yelling at them because they are privileged so they always deserve it" (which I have heard some trans people say before) is never going to help the situation, unless they have _very good_ emotional control.

I grew up in a very conservative Christian household, and was homophobic and transphobic until I was about 18, when I broke away from all that. Even after I started being an ally, I still felt like trans people were weird and I had trouble seeing them as their real gender. About two years ago I started watching your videos to better educate myself, and your whole personality and appearance so reminded me of my older brother, that I finally acknowledged the truth. And a few months ago, I realized that I myself am not cis.

It has always been used to identify people of African decent or with dark skintones as lesser beings. It has always had a history rooted in centuries of hatred and racism, and continues today unless reclaimed.
The comparison of racial slurs and a term that simply means “not trans” doesn’t make sense because cisgender isn’t used in a negative connotation unless its to point out the lack of understanding cisgender people have of how transitioning works. Secondly, the term is fairly new and has never been used to personally attack a marginalized group of people so it’s not comparable to a slur. From what I read, Michigan law makes it harassment to intimidate people based on certain characteristics, and the new bill would add gender identity among other things to those characteristics.
So not so much misgendering someone, but perhaps misgendering someone as a means to intimidate could become harassment.

Christianity began as sun worship, the stories about Jesus are symbolic.
He is just a personification of the sun, made into a god figure later on.
The sun "dies" for 3 days on December 22nd, the winter solstice, when it stops its movement south, to be born again or resurrected on December 25th, when it resumes its movement north.
In some areas, the calendar originally began in the constellation of Virgo, and the sun would therefore be "born of a Virgin"
The sun rising in the morning is "the saviour of mankind"
The sun is "The light of the World"
The sun "walks on water" is just the reflection of the sun on water/the sea.
"He cometh on clouds, and every eye shall see him", is just sun rays.
Jesus' "crown of thorns" is just the sun's glare, also know as a halo.
The sun's "followers", "helpers" or "disciples" are the 12 months and the 12 signs of the zodiac or constellations, through which the sun must pass.
The sun at 12 noon is in the house or temple of the "Most High": thus.."he" begins "his Father's work" at "age" 12.
The sun enters into each sign of the zodiac at 30 degrees, hense, the "Sun of God" begins his ministry at "age" 30.
The sun is hung on a cross or "crucified", which represents its passing through the equinoxes.
The vernal equinox being Easter, at which time it is then resurrected.
The reason why saviour myths are so similar with a godman who is crucified and resurrected, who does miracles and has 12 disciples, is that these stories were based on the movements of the sun through the heavens, an astrotheological development that can be found throughout the planet, because the sun and the 12 zodiac signs can be observed around the globe.
In other words, Jesus Christ and all the others upon whom this character is predicated are personifications of the sun, and the Gospel fable is merely a rehash of a mythological formula revolving around the movements of the sun throug the heavens.
Christianity is ancient astrology, it's just fables about the sun.

I'm also pretty sure that it doesn't say "god *only* made a man and a woman". Maybe they had a nap for a few weeks before making non-binary and intersex people.
Or maybe there *were* originally just cis men and cis women, but somewhere along the way mutations happened so gender and sex variations appeared.
It's also well documented that some books were discarded when the original bible was collated, plus some of the books have different accounts of the same event (and I imagine other religious texts have similar histories). So we know that it can't possibly cover every event and scenario completely accurately with all details included (and that's before even considering all the numerous translations and amendments over the years).
So basically, no-one should use their personal beliefs as an excuse for hatred or discrimination, *especially* when those beliefs advocate for love and acceptance.

We've HAD the neopronouns for almost half a century at LEAST (and I mean in like... fandom spaces, that's the corner of the world I'm aware of), we've only relatively recently started being more exploratory about it, but it isn't even something to fight over.

We have masculinity, femininity, and toxic masculinity... but has anyone ever seen any toxic femininity?

    • @ofconsciousness
      @ofconsciousness Год назад

Yes. Think of any beliefs that are sexist. If a feminine person internalizes those beliefs proudly and claims that it's natural, that's toxic femininity. Seeing yourself as a fertility goddess whose sole purpose is to breed and submit to your husband (yes these women really exist), believing you're naturally bad at math and science and shaming other women who show interest in it (this happened to me multiple times), claiming it's the man's job to carry anything mildly heavy when you could easily carry it yourself, shaming men who don't hold the door for you (usually online rather than to their face), etc.
Toxic masculinity and toxic femininity are just sexism internalized into how we perform gender.

Your videos are so calming and informing to me. You seriously helped me realize that repressing the fact that I'm trans isn't good, and you really are a role model to me. ❤

Regarding the "don't call me cis (or hetero, for that matter), I'm normal"...I'm cis-het, and pretty bloody far from "normal". And honestly, who would want to be "normal"?

As a gay man, I honestly knew nothing about trans people before one of your videos got ploped onto my suggestions. I was very tired and I thought "Oh look here is a cute guy, I wonder what he's got to say about "are the straights okay?" I was like... lol! Probably not but let's see what this cutie has to say.
Turns out, you had a lot to say, and my depressed self was needing the laughter you gifted to me. As more Of your videos as more videos appeared on my timeline, i watched them. You had bad trans anatomy which was educational for me. Then there was a video you did paired with your wife and she was delightful and also gave me laughter. Then I saw a video where you explained things like Advanced Biology and people being silly for basing their world view off of information given to 4th graders. That gave me a bit to think about.
It is sad how much trans people are sometimes disconnected from the rest of the LGBT+ community to the point where I was completely ignorant of the topic despite, HELLO its right there, the T in LGBT!
SO I will be buying your book to shore up the gaps in my education.
Even still, I don't need to understand everything about Trans People to support them and offer them the affirmation and love I myself also desire.
    If that makes any sense.
Anyway, I'll get back to your video. I paused it about 1/4 way in order to type this ramblings.

I know it is not your responsibility as a trans person to educate me about trans issues but I am honestly so grateful for you as I have learned so much from your videos. Like I am faced by people with bigoted views all the time but from watching your videos I have the knowledge to challenge their ignorance and being fully confident I am right. It's not even like it's complicated. Must be exhausting for you dealing with this all the time. I'm so sorry. It's so simple. The men whether trans or cis are men. The women, whether trans or cis are women and the people who are non-binary are also awesome. I'm absolutely completely certain people aren't "choosing" to be trans or non-binary to make them more vulnerable to abuse, cause physical and emotional harm and make them less safe. As a cis woman I expect people to refer to me with my preferred pronouns and my preferred name and absolutely everybody else should be afforded the exact same rights.

You say people aren't choosing to be trans.
Did you know that about 60% of the trans-women sexual offenders in prison in the UK "discovered" they were trans after they were caught? Which then allowed them to be housed in women prisons.
Personally, I think they were choosing that.

The "I'm a transgender man" in the intro just really made me laugh, I didn't realise that myself until he directly referenced it when I started watching his videos - must've been the 3rd or 4th I was watching and I was just like "oh, really?" lol

i think my most favorite arguments are, "God only made two genders!" obligatorily that's just wrong, because gender is a very human construct. And, "God only made two sexes!" which is again simply wrong on a factual basis. Nature is full of different sexual, intersex, and a-sexual combos. Not only that but animals they refer to like lions as having sex or gender 'norms' like manes are ALSO wrong. There are female lions with manes. There are female lions in the wild who behave like males and lead prides and fight. Who came and taught them to be like that, hmmm?? LMAO
There's just... Just so MANY holes in their arguments and if only they were slightly more aware of the world around them, they might see it.

Also there's a big hole from the start because with the way Genesis is written in the original Hebrew? That. God made Adam and Eve male and female thing? It's repeated with "They were made male and female" and that "they" can be read as SINGULAR and refering only to *Adam* before Eve is then made from him.
Which honestly makes more sense since Adam literally starts off being a single person made of clay/dirt/soil and breathed to life. Adam was made without a counterpart and literally bemoans it. Adam was frecking intersex.
There's interesting Jewish commentary around the language about the internet, and it also points out that Eve didn't have the ability to procreate until God cast these two out of the Garden and gave that to her as a curse/consolation prize.
Sounds very much like Adam was intersex, and Eve was copied from him and also intersex until God gave them a magic sex change into binary physiology to me!

Yeah, and the funny thing is that there are 2 fundamental fact about Christianity that disprove transphobia instantly:
      1. God makes no mistakes
      2. God made and makes everything, including humans
So, god makes all humans, and fundamental aspects of humans, or any human, cannot be mistakes. Including being trans. Or NB. Or gay. Or anything ever.
I’m not even Christian anymore, I’m aethiest, I just find it funny that Christianity fundamentally cannot justify any bigotry, ever, even if it was correct.

@@PrismTheLoser this is part of why the 'only two' thing makes me laugh so much tbh. If god makes no mistakes and gay attraction, intersex creatures, and others exist in all states... Well, the argument is dead before it leaves the door. God made em that way, so how can it be a mistake?
