    I'm nonbinary too and I'm thinking about going on T. What makes me doubt more is bottom growth, I don't want it. I didn't know a medication could help to stop that, but I want my voice to drop too, so I have to think about that. I don't want facial hair too, but I don't mind just shaving, my opinions are like you said you think now.
    It's good to see another POC talking about that! It's easier to see how T could help me than when I watch white people's videos

    • @mavmagick
      @mavmagick  2 года назад +31

      Thanks for the comment! It’s great to hear from another POC!
      The best thing to do is recognize that you have options!
      You can go on a low dose with finasteride and do voice training to help your voice sound more masculine.
      You can opt to get laser hair removal if you get sick of shaving!
      You could always give it a try for a month and see how you feel! There shouldn’t be too many changes in that short of time.
      And you might like the feeling of being on T and decide it’s worth the side effects.
      Head over to Reddit and ask around about your options! There are tons of ways to transition and you’ll just have to discover what’s right for you!

      @@mavmagick thank you!! I think I feel more confident now! I think I felt like I should decide everything right before starting T, maybe because of all "it's an irreversible decision" and "bla bla bla consequences" discourse. I should just go and observe how I feel instead of paying attention to what cis people say

      Im getting started on the T journey as a genderqueer person. I dont want the facial hair or receding hair and I think there are meds to stop that, but I want the voice drop as well. This journey reminds me a bit of myself. Thanks for posting.
      I only plan on T for a couple months for a small voice drop.

    I'm going to hit my 1year in July. We had simular goals and methods. I'm currently tapering my dose down again to hover where I'm at for a while. I'm super happy with my voice range, bottome stuff and face shape change. I'm not happy with my weight gain... But that's my big con. I was hairy before so I continue to shave as before. Congrats on your 1 year.

    i don't know how to explain how this video has just unlocked something for me. i always thought of T as this whole package of quick changes you can't pick and choose, so if i didn't want one of them then i should just stay away entirely. i've just realized a low dose for a few months could possibly give me changes that would make my life so much better, all while avoiding the effects i'm scared of. i know this is old but thank you so much for making this

    • @iteoircre8517
      @iteoircre8517 5 месяцев назад +3

      You can't pick and choose. T affects everyone differently, depending on their genes. I wouldn't recommend taking it unless you're sure you could at least tolerate all the possible changes.

    • @ode4126
      @ode4126 5 месяцев назад +4

      @@iteoircre8517 Yes I know that, I more meant that being informed on which changes are irreversible and which aren't, and looking up the usual timelines of when changes might occur, has given me hope I can take T in a way that works for me. I always thought I would just have to live in discomfort my whole life just because I didn't want to look like a binary man. Now I realize that that's not gonna happen overnight and I can try and reach a middle ground.

    it feels so much easier for me to go through top surgery than hormonse bc of the randomness that hrt can bring (let alone the baldies in my family) and I've found difficult to find nonbinary specific hrt experiances and goals that aren't just "I want the full masculinization that hrt brings" So it's cool to see you able to control your dosages that "dynamically".

    I especially appreciate your distinction between facial hair feeling dysphoric VS not being a preference. I worried facial/body hair would make me regret starting T, but... Thank you very much for all this info! My partner's a trans woman, so I was aware of Finasteride as being an anti-androgen that transfem individuals might take, but the idea of a transmasc person taking it alongside T wasn't one that I had imagined myself.
    I'm on an NHS waiting list, I got referred to them a few months ago. Since the waiting list is really long, I'm in a period of socially transitioning - coming out (or coming out AGAIN, for some people), trying to diet or exercise to change my body shape, etc - and also research. I've known for years that I want top surgery, but I've always been a bit iffy with the idea of of being on T because I wasn't sure on all of the effects of it? Basically, I wasn't sure that I wanted to "pass" as a cis guy and stop being feminine, I also want to be androgynous. Low-dose T does seem to be the way forward then? The main thing I'm worried about it my head hair.

    • @mavmagick

      I’m happy for you! I know that waiting must stink but you’re doing your best with it!

I’m considering t as a non-binary, and I don’t particularly want facial hair but for some reason I looooove shaving my face! so I shave whatever I have naturally as an afab just for the sake of shaving. But after hearing many different people's experience with it, I've come to the conclusion, that I at least wanna give it a try!
    I'll probably be going on a low dose as well, but I liked the idea of to taking a full dose in the first month to kinda "kick start" some of the changes
    I'll definitely ask my doctor about it once I hopefully get started on the process to getting HRT

  • @magentafox1657

    Hmmm I'm thinking a bit about whether I want to medically transition or not, this video is really helpful. Some things I want are the fat distribution, I really hate how my waist/hips look, also I think I want a deeper voice because I don't like how it sounds in recordings but I'm not sure if that's a dysphoria thing or self confidence thing. Also I need to find videos of people who share my accent and what their voice sounds like deeper because uh I don't like uncertainty. Also the mood thing is so interesting, I'm not personally worried about that because I'm autistic and have bad emotional regulation + ocd (undiagnosed) where I get violent intrusive thoughts and I'm thinking I could get past that because I have it already, trust me it's not fun but if it comes to it I think I could cope. There are a few things I'm not sure about, although definitely changes I don't want would be bottom growth and hair loss (honestly I would rather have nothing down there genital wise but surgery scares me so I'm thinking I'll leave it, thing is though I have chest dysphoria too and I'm not looking forward to surgery recovery if I end up getting top surgery.) My dysphoria right now is at it's not that bad unless I give it serious thought then I realise I'm deeply uncomfortable in my body.

    Just some questions if you don't mind: 1. Do you believe that 'non binary' will become just another label or gender for a new gender binary/trinary tradition in the future?
    2. Would you say that you're trans/non-binary or would you say that you're just Mav being Mav how Mav sees Mav's self that happens to be trans/non-binary(if that makes sense)? What I mean by that is do you allow labels to come in front and reduce you to something less than what you can truly be, not just gender labels but all labels?
    3. Do you practice meditation?
    Anyway, thank you for reading and I hope you liked it. Have a wonderful life

    • @mavmagick
      @mavmagick  2 года назад +6

      Thanks for the questions! I have hope that the world will be more open to non-binary gender options. I don’t really know what that would look like in this world but I hope that non-binary identities become more normalized. I think just creating a third option for gender isn’t enough if that makes sense. For the next question I feel that I am just Mav and I happen to be trans and non-binary. Those labels are helpful for me to navigate this world and also to connect and relate to other trans and non-binary folks. Above all I am just a soul learning to navigate this 3-D world.
      And yes! I practice every day. Meditation is a huge part of my spiritual practice.
      Thanks for all these amazing questions! I wish you the best

      May I answer too? Your questions are very interesting!
      1- In my opinion, no. There's not one right way to be nonbinary. It's an umbrella term for a lot of identities. For example, some nonbinary people don't want anything about medical transition and others want to go through everything available. That way, there's no way to put nonbinary into a box.
      2 - I've always been nonbinary, but this term didn't exist on my vocabulary. It's a part of me that I couldn't understand until I learned about other people who feel the same. It's like discovering you have an ability for something you've never tried before, you know? It's not about me fitting into a label, it's about a label being a tool for me. Is it confusing?
      3 - I used to do that, but my life is more chaotic now and it's not a habit anymore...

    Hi, thank you so much for the video!! I'm just wondering whether you noticed your voice drop any more after starting finasteride? I'm currently on finasteride + low-dose T, but am trying to decide whether I might need to go off it for a while to get the voice drop first! (I want pretty much the same affects as you! Also your voice is absolute bliss to listen too! Thank you!

    • @mavmagick
      @mavmagick  2 года назад +6

      I started T without coming out to them. Because of their religious beliefs, there was no point in trying to get their 'approval' because they don't accept this at all. I did come out to them in a letter a few months later and they were unsupportive as I expected. Hopefully, your situation is different! This is something you are doing for you and not for them. So weigh out what you feel most comfortable doing! Trust your gut!

    How does low dose testosterone affect fertility? Can one become pregnant on it?

    • @mavmagick
      @mavmagick  2 года назад +5

      Great question! I totally forgot to talk about my period in this video. My period stopped a few months after starting T. The assumption is that your ovaries go dormant while on T although pregnancy is still possible. So if you are planning to have sex with someone who produces sperm it is best to continue to use birth control. If you would like to get pregnant most people will stop testosterone and wait for their period to return before trying. I am not a medical expert by any means but I hope this helps🥰

    I've been on a very interesting and beautiful journey of becoming a TERF, and then eventually more and more radical feminist, in other ways as well! It's been amazingly worthwhile, and I wholeheartedly recommend!! Since you asked. :)
    ..It's also a REALLY good way to come to love and respect your body, warts and all! While escaping regressive sexist stereotypes, and overall sexism! Or.. not that you can escape it. It is everywhere. But you can come to SEE it for what it is! And understand it! Then reject it, and rebel against it, in a way that's ACTUALLY self-loving, reality based, and healthy! Plus that can also help other women, and all of womanhood, as a class! As we are ALL oppressed by this toxic crap! As opposed to what you do when you buy into gender ideology, which is: you sell us all out. Deciding that, because you suffer under sexism, and you don't like it, you are "so very special", and "not like the other girls", a.k.a. those pedestrian "cis" women, that are obviously completely fine with being objectified and reduced to second-grade support humans for men! (Hint, hint: we're really not.) And that could not possibly have ANY issues with our bodies, and self-acceptance, just because we choose not to medicalize, dissociate, deny the unchangeable reality of our sex, and start mutilating ourselves over a LIE! (Hint, hint: that is just NOT the case! Many of us struggle with accepting our bodies, as well. We just haven't dissociated, and decided to try to IDENTIFY out of reality.)
    Hoping you'll come to see this one day. In the meantime, all the best to ya!! Sincerely. :)
