  • Biden Plans Tariffs on Chinese Electric Vehicles | Vantage with Palki Sharma
US president Joe Biden is reportedly planning to extend Trump-era tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. Biden's allies in Europe are also investigating Chinese EV makers with punitive action expected to follow. China's state subsidies have spawned hundreds of EV makers in the country, driving down prices. Western car-makers and politicians fear that cheap Chinese EVs will flood their markets and affect local producers. The auto industry employs millions of people in the West and makes up a considerable share of their GDP. Will the West's war on Chinese EVs backfire? Can Chinese EVs dominate the auto market in the coming decades? Palki Sharma tells you.

@@Cotswolds1913 It's not relevant. China has been the world's largest auto market for a quite some time now. All major car manufacturers have factories in China and they produce the cars they sell in China locally without any tariffs. They have enjoyed HUGE profits from China for decades already. Only recently the Chinese local brands started to give them trouble. It's just that nobody expected the Chinese brands to turn things around this fast.

That's why you've been hearing about these b.s. fabrications from western media saying the Chinese are setting u 'police' here in the US and elsewhere in the west. It is utmost priority in the interest of world peace that counties decouple from china. china only can be controlled economically rather than militarily. Remember every penny china earns makes it more aggressive there by the world needing to do more military spending and paying for job losses and social welfare in the long run. import dependency on china is resulting in countries becoming chinese colonies. If countries want to remain independent they need to cut on chinese dumping. Remember china only got aggressive since it became economically stronger. So to control china economically is ut utmost importance for world peace.

Keen competition is good for market as well as consumers. Indeed to solve the problem, US carmakers can consider slashing prices to meet the Chinese's. Local produce products tend to be cheaper due to no shipment and insurance costs. So if the US carmakers decide not to profiteer from consumers, they can drop their vast markup to compete.

The commentator said China EV market is saturated. I afraid not so. China has more charging stations than any other nations in the world. China resently break the critical point where the latest generation EV could travel in the order of 1,000km,with 80% recharging time drop to 10-15 minutes and the hgihest safety record. There is no room at all for petrol car in China now. China heavy subsidy to the EV industry is true but why no one ever mention US subsidy to its chips industry? Another important fact is that German people are angry with Volkeswagen using the German EV market to subsidize the Chinese market.

“Colonial mentality” refers to an ingrained attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors of subordination to or emulation of a former colonial power. India was a former colony of the defunct British Empire. But as a country long subjugated to imperial rule, the colonial mentality is clearly ingrained in its national psyche.
Granted, it is difficult to completely eradicate colonial mentality from the heart of those who play servile, but India will definitely do well to chart its own course rather than towing behind Washington.

    Post World War 2,
We are living in the Era of The American Empire,
We are also living in the Era of Neo Colonialism(indirect control),
We are also living in the era of Weasel politicians, who would bow down to anyone with money.
And America is the queen of indirect control.
Once Neo Colonialism collapses Democracies will thrive.
Basically, after the second world war America has been running from third base to fourth base and calling themselves winner of the "world series".
The era of China has begun, though the era of America is not completly lost.
China is strong but not that strong.
America is weak but not that weak.
So, in this contest America will try to use G7 countries China will try to use Brics+ (Iran and Saudi Arabia).
That tells you the era of a multi polar world is upon us.
Whoever controls the middle east controls the world, The Europeans once controlled the middle east so they ruled the world, now America controls the middle east so it controls the world, if the indications are true tomorrow China is going to control the world and global economy because they have forged a relationship with Middle East.
They are the going to be the defacto epicenter of the global economy and trade in the coming years.
Where America has reached in 240 years, China has reached there in 40 years.
    Take that American Capitalism!
The name of the game is Capitalism.
"Who knew China (Communist party of China) is going to be so good at it?"
China is winning because USA has allowed it to win, which is the biggest foreign policy blunder in the last 40 years.
China' owes "it's whole success" to a series of poor foreign policy decision by America (The West) which is to involve China in WTO and shifted evey job from Detroit to Shanghai, Apparently the wonders of capitalism was supposed to make China more "democratic" nither did that happen nor did it drive a wedge between Soviet Russia and China. It has created a more powerful China and Russia alliance. Which is extremely hard to counter for the west.
By 2030-32 China is going to become the largest economy in world which is going to be a massive change in the world and if it's goes really bad for US and it collapses then we might be ushered into a new era.
There is nothing as soft power, there is hard power and everything flows from there.
That's true for American Empire, Russia, China and the British Empire.
In America the political parties change but the policies don't change,
In China the political party don't change but the policies change all the time. Till America doesn't change course it is in for a rough ride for the next couple of decades.
