Don't Drive Here is a reality television series. It airs on Discovery Channel Canada and is hosted by Andrew Younghusband. The series is a follow-up to Canada's Worst Driver.
As local of Manila, a car enthusiast who enjoys driving (even in Manila traffic), and as a fan of Andrew's show, Canada's Worst Driver, I can say that MOST of the contestants in CWD will be considered a normal driver in Manila (example: Brittany from Seaason 14. She's like many drivers in Manila.) If I win the lottery, I would bring the CWD show in the Philippines and have Andrew host it. That'll be a blast. LOL!
It's a hell hole to drive in the Philippines especially if you're living in cities like Manila or Cebu. Most of them doesn't follow simple traffic rules plus you can't see them using turn lights in their cars.
I'm an Aussie, a big fan of Canada's Worst Driver. I'm going to the Philippines for the first time at the end of this year & after watching this I feel absolutely horrified. No way I'm driving those unsafe vehicles!! How can you get your licence that easily by going around in an empty car lot, that's outrageous & insane! No wonder they don't have any road knowledge
@@dexterjoseph4384 if you are used to driving in the Philippines that means your reflexes are sharp and you are always paranoid and anticipating everything kinda like a future vision. The habits is depending on the person whether the driver is disciplined while surviving metro Manila or one of those people who make Metro Manila unsafe
If you're actually willing enough, the first thing you need to do in Manila traffic is to relax and cool your head. Lean back and actually enjoy the fact that you have a cushion in the bucket seat. The next thing to do is to simply follow the rules of the road that you were taught whichever place you came from because it's practically the same elsewhere due to the Vienna Convention on Road Signs and Signals. The Philippines follows the minimum standard set by the Convention so there aren't any unconventional or weird rules and markings that would confuse you, unlike Japan or the UK. The third thing to do is actually more sensible than you might think; it is to be alert and *drive fast*. Driving isnt a stationary activity. If you want to get from point A to point B in as little time as possible and limiting your exposure to crap driving as much as possible, then stick to the speed limit all the time and you will actually get to your destination with minimal conflict. One of my biggest problems with Filipinos driving is that they're aggressive AND slow, hogging the overtaking lane at 80kph and brake checking you if you flash them to move over when there's nobody in the right lanes. How utterly ironic and moronic. Keep in mind, just because you're driving fast doesn't mean you have to make you and your passengers nauseated. You also have to drive smooth. Be like Jackie Stewart; he even made a VHS about it. Learn how to drive smooth and fast, seriously. It'll save your life. Surviving Philippine traffic isn't about picking up your balls and acting tough like a jeepney driver, it's about actually staying safe and being alert. If you survive Philippine traffic, try doing so without harboring the bad habits here. That's why i can get into highway 401 and into Downtown Toronto within minutes and still be feeling fresh.
Oh my!!!! Lol :) the most funny on this video is when he took the test for philippine driver's license. Answers are posted on the wall BIG hahahahahaha
So true lol! That's exactly the big culprit too! Seriously why even bother taking a test when its basically giving you answers and the driving test is a complete joke and waste of time. No wonder why most are uneducated on traffic rules and etiquette. It's like giving away a driver's license.
I drove in the Philippines once. Scariest 2 blocks of my life. I don't know how my family drives there. But then again, they're amazed on how fast people drive in the US.
Christian del Castillo, I learned how to drive in Manila and now I live here in NYC. The traffic situation in Manila and nyc is almost the same. We have pedicabs, horses, pedestrian crossing all over too. Taxi drivers here are just the same as jeepney drivers in Manila, unruly. Practice to drive here in Manhattan first before driving in Manila and I'm pretty sure you can make it.
Funny enough when I had my aunt visit me in Canada and I drove her around she was terrified sometimes b/c the traffic here moves so much faster. When I pointed out I wasn't likely to hit something, and it was unlikely someone would hit me, she pointed out that a collision in the Philippines is at least slow. With that mentality in mind I still refuse to drive on visits, even a slow collision can do a lot of damage.
I think as of the start of 2019, the number of cars in the country multiplied drastically. The amount of cars you will see in this video doubled (or maybe quadrupled or worse) as of today especially in 2017 when there are more than 170,000 brand new vehicles (that doesn't include used 2nd hand vehicles) released from the showrooms because everyone can get a new car from low down payment prices. Now the city I live in gets longer travel times than before thanks to it
I can't believe it was actually that easy to get a license there holyshit lol. Here in Canada it's a whole 3 year process to get your full license. First year you take a knowledge test to acquire your learners or G1 ( you can only drive with someone that has a full license while you're a G1) and with that you have to have it for 1 year before you can finally take your road test and acquire a G2 license. At this point you're allowed to drive by yourself but only after driving for another year after that will you be allowed take the advanced road test to finally get your full license. But the process in Philippines is nuts !! I cannot believe the process was that fast and the actual driving test is in a closed area!! Here in Canada it's actually on the road. Crazy man.
Dont even get me started on the fact that it looks like they do not need to safety their vehicles before it's allowed on the road.. Here in Canada again our vehicles need to pass a rigorous safety and e-test to be certified fit for the road. You can't just buy a car and start driving it.
Many experienced drivers from the Philippines struggle with getting their G2. In the Philippines traffic rules are merely suggestions. As long as you can get your vehicle to run from point A to point B, doesn’t matter if you know the rules or not.
a famous F1 british driver came once in Manila and witnessed the local driving he then concluded that Filipino drivers can qualify easily in the Formula One race...and I'm serious......
Just saw this video. The way he got his license was the same to what I went through when I got it in 2012, the same place, LTO east avenue main branch. From the same laboratory urine testing office(there are tons to choose from at the time), to the driving area, even his driving examiner was the same guy and I also rented that same car for the examination. The difference at that time was, after the written exam I went to a room were we watch some video.
I once lived in the Philippines but now I migrated to the United States and decided to take a driver's licence, watching this made me realized how dangerous it is driving in the Philippines...
and white people say asians cant drive, drive in philippines and you know how hard it is for you to drive there. while filipinos drive easily in western countries
I went there as tourist i never drived there, but as a passenger in taxi, i was really scared !!! It's look to me dangerous and riskly, but for the driver this is just a everyday driving style. But i need to admit they really have good skill for driving stress control, during my whole stay i never seen a crash, bump or scratching an car, i was really surprised !
YggdraSsilL91, breaking every rule, making driving more stressful and killing more people on the road does not mean it's "skill". Death is final and it's better to stay alive and drive rather than be dead and done.
My grandpa said that since the 90s the traffic was already worse. Me, as a grade 9 student, getting to my school in Sampaloc Manila is a bullshit. I'm from Progreso, San Juan and every mondays and tuesdays, the traffic was freakingly bad that i don't want to go to school anymore.

Do you know that the jeepneys are military jeeps and trucks left behind by the united states military during japanese occupation and some even came from the japanese and the locals use them for public transport then for more passengers to fit they made them longer and put some roof to protect from the heat. FYI

And the thing where you manage traffic, the traffic enforcers are from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, the agency control some aspect of life and policies of Metropolitan Manila like traffic, sewers and littering
Manila is divided into two cities, the old, Latin, formed in 1940's part of Manila. Which is the dirty Manila seen here. And the modern, 21st century Asian Manila, which has the biggest malls in Asia etc... I live in Manila, and I would never dare venture out of the Asian sector into the Jungle that is Manila proper, Binondo, and Tondo.
Too many people and too many cars in such a small country where there are 7000 people lives per square miles compare to only 79 people live per square miles in the U S. Think about it. There ain’t enough room. Stop producing people!!!
Alfredo Altares, Jr. As if you're not a Filipino, yes you may live somewhere else but this is reality. Don't be too narrow, don't compare a big country with an island packed with lots of people.
The population isn't exactly the problem though, comparing to some other neighbouring Asian countries with similar population density, their traffic is nowhere near as close as to this, if ever. It is really the problem that is already shown in this episode. Public transportation is also very ineffective and fragmented that contributes a lot to this traffic problem not just in Metro Manila but the whole, only with lesser issues that can be addressed easier than Manila. The Philippines though indeed not fit to be a "carnation" because of small available landmass with a huge population. A unified and effective mass transportation system is really the solution for people to commute, and needs to eliminate old current "systems".
Yeah, I would just skip over the city. The best parts of the country are away from the big cities and into the provinces, small cities, and distant islands with beautiful beaches.
In the philippines , driving is 10% knowledge 90% god be with you.

A unified and effective mass transportation system is really the solution for people to commute, and needs to eliminate old current "systems".
my valve would not open , even when the blatter is close to bursting
I'm getting stressed by just watching this. Having to drive soon in Manila is making me nervous right now! Oh my God help me
James
If I were you don't. I learned to drive there 30 years ago, never used it. Besides there's transportation everywhere, cheap.
this gave me a very good reason to never go to Manila
Camelia D amen.
The beaches and food are still worth it though
Yeah, I would just skip over the city. The best parts of the country are away from the big cities and into the provinces, small cities, and distant islands with beautiful beaches.
Camelia D as a filipino that is good id recommend just visiting the beaches
This is just one of the reason why you should go to Manila. Thats just one of the things Manila can offer. There's more...you'd be surprised.
Most of the weight off a tricycle is on the back wheels so the front wheel shakes 😂
This is normal to us
