Here in North America we have something called a "High standard of life" but it is only related to material things. All streets are empty, you see only 100's of cars, people is always so crabby and cold, seems like nobody is happy here, what good is a fancy house, car of the year, money in the bank (which is not real, everyone pays with credit card), nice clothing, fancy restaurants etc, if happiness is not here? These Filipino people always don't have much, but the are way richer than us, because they are always happy and make it good with what they have. I worked with Filipinos here in Alberta and they are awesome, they become your friends and that's for life.

I agree sir, they might lack of material things but at the end of the day they are happy and intact with their love ones. unlike us here in the US, canada, you barely cant see people and no sense of neighborhood. i miss philippines, i miss my love ones back home.

    SO DANGEROUS
NOT!!!!!! I can't say this enough. Anyone that is coming to visit from abroad for the first time treat it like anywhere else you would go in the world! Dont go to places you're not supposed to go, be street smart, be respectful and the city will love you back. Manila is full of beautiful people and places that not many people seem to believe.

It's been said, "it's all in your state of mind". Someones trash can be somebody else's treasure. That dirty Pasig river was their water park and had so much fun swimming in it. So if your thinking is positive your experience will be too and you can handle any real hardship you actually are going through. Filipinos in general have this positive attitude and are able to smile even in the most worst of times.

The best way to learn Tagalog or other dialect is to go to the Philippines and drink with the locals. You'll learn a lot faster that way than taking classes because it's a fun learning process. Our brain tends to hold on to fun memories and the things that come with it.

A closer look at the beauty of MANILA.
Just like that certain line in a song: "I KEEP COMING BACK TO MANILA"
As a provincial fellow growing up I often heard stories of how dangerous it is to live in the metro.
But once I got into college and went to Manila I was blown away.
Everyday just walking around and or taking a jeep/trike to get from place to place.
Eating lots of streetfoods from Quiapo, shopping in Divisoria, haggling medical stuff in the Bambang area.
Taking a stroll into the heart of Tondo and sharing experiences with good friends.
Going to QC to watch PBA games, window shopping in banaue where auto parts are priced fairly.
Lakwatsa into Makati and the beautiful infrastructures and bustling residential areas.
I will always treasure the time I spent there especially during my college years one of the very best times of my life.

This video made me actually want to go back to Manila. Manila can be an exhausting place if you are not use to dirty air. Which would explain why these guys were wearing bandanas over their noses and mouths. Also, if you don't stay at the more fancier hotels in town, you have to deal with blackouts. Those aren't cool (literally) when it's hot and humid. I found myself running to the nearest place that had A/C for shelter. Despite all the cons I have mentioned, the Filipino locals are one of the friendliest in the world. And there is a local saying (mostly for tourist): "More fun in the Philippines." If you maintain your sense of adventure, you'll have an amazing time in The Philippines.

Hi Kuya Wil! I absolutely LOVE this style of your vlogs and just getting to see more of the daily life in the barangay! I’ve only been to Philippines once (because I was inspired to go from you) and experienced this amazing welcome and made so many great memories! I am definitely coming back and bringing my family. Since we lost contact with all our family in The Philippines back in the 1950’s, my family has always wanted to go back and try to go through records/documents to try to find anyone. Though I didn’t get to do any of that, I really did make life long friends and get “adopted” into families I met along my travels. It’s this kind of content that really inspires me to keep coming back to my roots and travel more! 💕

Its about appreciation. People tend to be more grateful if they have less. Its probably incremental. If you have a million dollars and get $100,000 more it doesn't impact your life much. But if you have just $100 and get $100,000 it does impact your life. I think its often called diminishing returns. Also westernized people measure most things by their monetary value. In poorer regions they use other means of valuing things and this has more depth. What is money except for man's attempt at putting a monetary value on something? Its fickle and can change with a change in mood. Witness the stock market.

    • @FreshAirRules
      @FreshAirRules 5 лет назад

@@firstnamelastname1219 A lot of these people are drawn away by the lure of apparent riches in 1st world countries. But then they get here and as we all know most Filipinos have rather poor financial management skills. They tend to think in the moment and don't plan well for the future. Most, not all. In my city in North America there are many Filipinos. I have seen maybe 1 family in several years drive a nice car (newer MB, BMW, Audi, etc). The Chinese and educated whites control the entire economy. The Filipinos don't even make a dent. Its a different mindset. In the Philippines it works well. In North America, not so well. The 2nd generation is very acclimatized and does much better. But here's the real problem: Their diet. Note all the fried street food consumed in the Philippines. The traditional Filipino diet is laden in fat, salt and sugar. One of the most unhealthy diets on the planet. Look at most Filipinos over 30. 99% are really overweight. Its the diet. They have excellent athletic genetics (have you ever seen a bad Filipino dancer?) but the diet ages them fast. When Filipinos stay fit they have tremendous results, much like Hispanics. Their athletic genetics are far above most Caucasians. The end result of this emigration is that they tend to live a much shorter lifespan in westernized countries than they would have back home with all that fresh food available (if they ate fresh food of course). Here they never eat anything raw pretty much except fruit. A "salad" is a foreign concept. They almost never eat raw vegetables which are the cornerstone of any healthy diet. If they knew they would probably die 20 years sooner in their modern house in California I wonder if they would leave. A lot of it also is hope for their children. Filipinos sacrifice everything for their children which is very admirable. Their family relationships tend to be very respectful and tight. So if they think emigrating will grant the next generation a better life (whatever that is) they jump at it. If they would read more they might make a different decision. Nowadays with so much info online one doesn't need to necessarily go to an expensive school in a 1st world country to get an education. Of course convincing an employer of this is more challenging. Work for free for a few days probably will do it though. But Filipinos are not big readers generally. This is something the government needs to encourage, especially as so many people are comfortable reading English where most info is available. What percentage of financial and scientific info is in Filipino online? Almost nothing. So speaking English bridges them to the world and is invaluable. But instead most will use that linguistic ability to watch RUclips videos. An incredible waste.

Your travel vlogs have always featured the beauty of the Philippines, and you’ve been to every local tourist destination I can think of, plus some more that are off the beaten track. But this time, you’re showing just another side of this country. And like I said before - you’re just showing truth - and truth is beauty.
Our latest market studies reveal that the Philippines still suffer from an image problem. Those of us in the tourism industry know how frustrating & annoying it is every time we encounter that seemingly endless question: “Is it safe to visit the Philippines?” because after all these years with all the tourism promo slogans, safety remains an issue to tourists when thinking of traveling to the Philippines.

Wil, I watched all 3 episodes and my overall assessment is outstanding! You probably are the most articulate and possess the deepest wisdom of all Philippine based bloggers today. You seem to find all the silver linings wherever you go in the Philippines...and for that I applaud you. Although you might present somewhat the extreme opposite of what the media paints of the country, your blog shows what can happen if nothing goes array, or when things are normal. Not that I expect you to show the opposite side of the spectrum, but I've been in situations where people are not so friendly, perhaps because I look and I am a Filipino. Nevertheless, this blog definitely met your goal which is to show the side of the streets of Manila which is not seen or presented in other media outlet. For that I thank you very much. I wish you more power and success and please continue the work you are doing :)
