After 8 years, still one of the finest explanations of the release. The drill with the sticks on the floor is gold dust, a light bulb moment for anyone unsure of the way the club moves through the ball 👍

Mark, Best video of the summer. Nobody has done a better job of how the body/hands/arms/hips should sequence on the swing. Bravo. Every golfer needs to see this.

Every better golfer I know, knows this Mark Crossfield guy as one of the most knowledgeable golfers on the web. It's explanations like this that cut through the snake oil out there. If you were local I'd take lessons from you. Thanks!

A great and clear demonstration of the release. I have been struggling with this for years, after being told to turn the wrists, few minutes of your simple explanation, all is clear. Thanks Mark.

I know this video is two years old, but I can't thank you enough for it. This is the explanation I've been looking for for YEARS! I'm a huge supporter of yours mark, and I'm surprised I haven't found it sooner! Thank you!

Have been trying different RUclips golf video tips for a few years. This is by far the best tip and easy to understand and perform fundamental golf swing I've tried. I'm usually terribly inconsistent with iron strikes but after practicing this open body and "thumb" positions through the swing it has dramatically improved the quality of my iron shots. Stronger contact and more consistent shots nearer to my target. Thank you for this tip!

The absolute best instruction video ever. Played many years thinking I must roll the wrist thru the impact zone, relying on perfect timing for success. This video explained it better then it ever. My accuracy and distance has improved. The biggest difference is my confidence, I know I am going to play well and hit the ball solid. I do not have to rely on a good day of perfect timing to have a good round.
    Thanks Mark

this is possibly the most brilliant golf vid on YT, exposes the myth of the crossing rists, forearms etc,
in the past when ive tried to consciously 'roll the wrists, forearms, al it does is smother the ball, usually a pull hook,
with modern golf equipment, steel shafts etc, gold moved from a handsey game to a 'body' game, its the trunk of the body + good leg action that releases the club = perfect release of stored up energy, after all when we play a truly great real golf shot i bet all golfers feel their body and legs have worked in tandem to smoothly launch the ball, the arms and hands have merely been holding on for the ride
    nice one Mark

Just watched Mark repeat the story in a video 2 of years ago. Not only is it consistent, but it also means he must love to us see folks benefit. Thumbs up! (and still thanks for getting my attention to the Crossy wedge which is doing me great service in the muddy Dutch offseason which this year is turning out muddier than ever)

Mark, thank you for providing a detailed explanation of the "release". I just started shooting video of my swing to identify my deficiencies. Been following your video channel for a couple of years Mark, and in my opinion this is your best work yet. Superb explanation, with mention of both technique and feel, slow motion examples and some good drills. I think the extra few minutes length over your average video has helped you there. Keep up the great work!

I’ve just watched this video and wish I’d seen it years ago. When I first started and had lessons I was told by my golf pro that I had to roll my hands over as that was how you got the club to release correctly. In reality all I did was snap hook and duff shots. Thanks Mark for another well explained video 👍.

Mark always enjoy your videos but this has to be one of your best. So clear and great pace of instruction. Especially helpful at the beginning where you point out the 2 dimensional view vs reality of body movement. Terrific!

My handicap came down from 22 to 13 last year and i largely accredit it to this video and not trying to scream every ball a mile. It's taking time to develop the rhythm and i have a long way to go but a big thank you for this. I love all the videos but this one is invaluable. Thanks.

+Mark Crossfield you probably won't see this but I have been horrible struggling with a block because of a toe strike and this video just fixed me. Im so thankful you have no idea. well the face can be in either depending on what shot you want to hit, but this can be done with grip and set up rather than any extra turn of the face. I play a gentle fade which is why you might see my face more square.

I normally don't comment on youtube, but I must make an exception here. I've been playing golf for 30 years and have always had a too upright follow through. Many instructors have taught to release the hands and some even teach to release the body like you do here. However, your explanation is both systematic and very simple. I'll be sure to work on this at my next range session. Thank you for posting this video Mark!

Hey mark I have been watching just your vlogs as tips in my game for about the last year now. My game has improved a ton. At first I was Alittle mixed up seeing so many different golf tips from different channels, once I stuck to yours only it made me a more consistent player. I’m still not great I went from a 24 handicap to a 16.1 (us) in a year, so I still have a lot of work to do. This video really helped my distance and controlling the loft. Just want to thank you for still making videos. Love watching them

Fantastic discussion-video on release. I enjoyed how you addressed the 2-dimensional image-based issue of howba release may look on camera versus how a release must feel and look from the golfer's perspective. Thanks for helping me re-examine my body rotation as a potential source of my losses in consistency this winter. All the best.

Hi Mark, I have early extension and flip my hands through impact adding loft and hitting weak non penetrating shots. This video is fantastic, you show how to clear your hips through impact then how to release the club on a consistent basis, it's so frustrating for me after hitting a good drive to then miss the green with a weak shot...I'll be practising this first thing tomorrow, thanks Mark

Hi Mark, great stuff! The amount I'm learning about the golf swing watching your videos is massive. I worked on this drill at home along with the video on strengthening the grip (2 knuckles), then took it out to a local golf dome (because it's cold here in Canada right now) and tried it out. The feedback was immediate, the quality of strike was noticeably better from the first swing. I will be keep working on this and now have to work on my hip rotation as mentioned in some other videos. Thanks!

Mark, Have been having few lessons on ball striking with penetration, now the lesson makes even more sense of what my Pro is trying to ingrain into my swing, move those hips & body into the shot. I had too much hands & arm action couple with not having a flat wrist (left hand) . Shall practice in the nets & hopefully can take it on the course. Good video Mark. Based on this video I take it you're a proponent of having the toe pointing straight up when the club is parallel to the ground in the follow through (P8) as opposed to being perpendicular to the plane as many of the 'new skool' methodologies suggest?

Great video. I had a lesson last weekend and the PGA coach told me to roll my wrists. I was not sure about it and created greater shot variation as it was hard to marry face to path with a wrist movement. I'll give him cred for fixing my path issue but then again, it only took a suggestion and I made it happen. The issue with your teaching style being so good Mark is that I'm now searching for something similar in my area. Sadly my search continues for a coach as knowledgeable and enthusiastic as you. Keep up the great vids as I strive to improve.

Top marks. I've never seen a better breakdown of release than your 2 vs 3 dimensional viewpoint of body rotation. It made quite an impact on me. In your drill, you mention the problems associated with hips forward and closed shoulders. What about an open stance swing?

great vid mark but have a quick question for you . is the down swing body movement and sequence a consequence of coiling your body correctly in the back swing . the reason I ask is because when I try to initiate with my hips my arms seem to drag behind too much and I finish with ball flights pushy and slicey

Mark explains the release in simply and clearly. I agree with gtflyer's comment. With all the other explanations out there, I couldnt understand how a person could possibly time the rolling of the wrists during an actual golf swing.

very interesting how you beautifully put it, there is another golf coach, guru that says and shows that the hands and wrists come around, where as you concentrate on moving the body through the ball, hitting through it which makes sense. So at no point after you have hit the ball the left elbow breaks? only when it;s moving to the top to finish of the swing, yeah? cheers
