This video is spot on for me. I have been working on this part of my swing a lot lately and your breakdown of the various styles of follow through was extremely helpful.

Just found this video...Practiced your drill in my yard for about an hour. Went to my local course and had the best round i have ever had. Not only that, but i hit the most beautiful, straight driver shot that i have ever done. I am a lefty, and i ALWAYS have the worst push slices to the left. It got so bad that i have literally taken my Ping g400 out of my bag out of frustration.
    Cant thank you enough Rick!

Probably the most important aspect to a good swing, So many golfers simply swing hard hold on..and have no release and wonder why the ball lacks distance...without that move..you really don't have a golf swing...good job explaining it...

I agree. Just had a lesson recently with this same problem. I am trying to hold onto the lag through impact leaving the club face massively open hitting huge slices

Hi this returns in my search of "golf release". Can’t help noticing the change of your setup and "the look". ;) As a long time subscriber, I got used to watch your videos but this 3-year old video (great information btw) made me smile. Also that guy sat in the background next door also looks familiar. :))) I guess I am trying to say thank you both for all the RUclips sessions. And a very early “Happy Holiday Season” to you guys.

Excellent video. I am trying to eliminate a flip swing and this will help. I like the forearm rotation focus in lieu of hand action

I also found this helps maintain a better swing plane through the ball. Great tip

Thank you again Rick--- I value all your tips--- I just retired so now I hope I can go from a 15 handicap to a 10 soon... I just purchased Mizuno JPX 850 Forged and the 4-5 in Hybrids--- Thanks again--

I am 45 years old, held a golf club for the first time last year. I am progressing to my satisfaction with instruction, but I ma having the issue with the left arm crumpling in the finish. Two things causing, number one I am not keeping up in my body turn, so it is in the way, and I am not completely releasing the club, as I am concentrating too much on the impact area and I am not getting to the point of the forearm overlap everytime. Great explanation, this has already helped my practice immensely. Keep up the good work.

for the forearms to cross/touch do you have to have the left wrist a bit cupped? I wish I could see it from the opposite angle. Thank you so much. Great results today at the range with this release style.

Hi Rick. You are really producing some top quality content at the moment. I am still struggling with the straight arms drill. I noticed in the video you seem to get best results if transferring weight forward aggressively and not hanging back like I do. Could you do a video on the left arm at address? Should left arm and club form a straight line?

The tips give me a physical thing I can look at. A result I can make happen so I know I am doing it correctly. My Golf Tec guy gives me good directions but doesn't give me the tips I need to get there.

Hmmm. This is the most important part of the swing IMHO and one which I have NEVER gotten. Keep trying though Rick it's that important.
What should I be feeling? Should I feel relaxed or like I'm "going after" the ball? I am 69 and started playing when I was a teen-ager, before the days of such pristine courses so I never learned a proper golf swing.

Hi Rick like your demonstrating on where the arms actual cross over towards the end of the swing. In order for me to achieve this I have employed Slamming Sam Snead recommendations on the downswing of apply slightly more pressure with the first two fingers of the left hand( right handed golf player) and swing as fast as one can. Combine this along with Hogan's recommendation of initiating the down swing with one's hip creates a perfect formula for a perfect swing. Do you agree?

    Hi Rick
This is exactly my problem this last year or so. I just steer the club head and fold as u have demonstrated. It is killing my game. No power and slicing, even wedges !!!
I think I started doing it from practising my chip shots too much or short pitches were I would hinge n hold. Now a bad habit I can't get away from :(

will this "release-swing" be in every fullswing shot, driver to sandwedge ? even in the chipping n such ?

  • @pedersen47

Hi Rick, working on this drill and having a heck of a time keeping my left arm straight at the finish. When I trace it back to impact it shows my clubface being completely shut with my right hand and forearm folded over (right handed golfer). Any ideas\feelings on how to get me to keep that left arm straight?? More body rotation?

To have a good release, the body needs to get out of the way. I heard the term "the trailing arm", meaning that the right arm "trails" behind the body. Any helpful tips on this? Many thanks

  • @thegolfingmachine
    @thegolfingmachine 9 лет назад

Hi Rick, first you have to understand the actual concept of release. Release = to release the stored potential on the clubshaft and not exactly a shape. Release is something where you are releasing the lag on the clubshaft Via Kinematic sequence. How we grip the club will affect the release timing, and the club face closure is related to the longitudinal Centre of gravity (the design of the clubhead in relation to the centre of gravity of the clubhead itself) Ken PGA GSEM PhD Human Performance
