Thanks for sharing, very helpful!
this was such a great video, I'm saving it for when I do get a KLR
Excellent again! Very well covered!
Thank you, that's what I have been searching for!
I appreciate you for this useful video.
Regards from Costa Rica
Very helpful video, thanks for sharing Tim!
Thanks for sharing! I’m about to purchase a base ABS.
Thank you sir for the effort and education.
just purchase a 2023 base model. great info to know in the future. Thanks
Super helpful! Thank you
Thank you Sir, that was very helpful
Wow! That's cool stuff Timothy. Here on the Central Coast Ca we still have good riding weather so I'm not tinkering I'm riding so I appreciate you checking that all out and teaching us all.
Great video, very usefull. Greatting from Argentina
Excelente muchas gracias por compartir ! Saludos desde Mexico
Awesome, thankyou very much!
Great info. Thanks.
Very helpful, TY
Thank you sir!
Good information thx
I think the new klr looks awesome stripped down.Im thinking about taking everything I don't absolutely have to have off and see how it performs with all the extra weight removed, fairing and all.as far as the bike not having enough battery, stator etc to power accessories, I wonder if you can add a capacitor to store juice like we used to do with our sound systems back in the day when the amps pulled more power than the battery and alternator could make we would put a capacitor.just thought to have enough power to run a bunch of extra stuff.
No fuse required…..all you need is a relay
Great video. My base has the fuse in the fuse panel. Quick question. When aux lights are plugged into that connector...do they come on when you switch to high beams or do they come on using a switch you put in the spot above the 12v socket space? Thanks
Thats awesome information, thanks Tim. I have the base model with ABS and I'm adding auxiliary lights- I guess I just ground them to the frame somewhere ?
The Acessory power leads are two wires. One a power and the other a ground.
thank you so much for this been wondering if the base comes with these options just need to get the relays because abs sounds fucking annoying offroad
thank you!!!!
Thank you for video!!! I have a gps that I had hardwired to battery on my old KLR. Zumo 396. I want to hardwire it again on my 2023 klr. Can I just attach the two wires to the accessory port after relay install? Running that wire back to battery seems stupid. I still want to do the power port install for usb charging but I want my gps hard wired. 2023 base model
Good info. Thanks!
You are correct. That wire is there. I have the basic model.. I just had to add the relay and they was able to install the 12v plug and usb, i also didn’t add a fuse. And everything seems to be working properly.
You going to hook up your hand warmers to that factory. Or are you going to just go to the battery.
yes I did, just posted a new video showing this
Hey Tim
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Is that the stock OEM USB port on the left side and if so where do you plug the connector in?
Thanks in advance.
I could not tell either.
I have a base model. Just needed the relay
Hi mate. Thanks for the video but you didn't really point out the connections very well. Cheers
Hey Tim just subscribed. Wondering if you have a video on how to remove the headlight assembly?
Thanks in advance and ride safe.
No I do not. Its not terriblely hard just takes time and patience. Once the bike is stripped of the windshield and nose fairing it's just a few bolts. I no longer have my bike or I would do a video for you. Sorry I couldnt be of more help.
After you add the relay are those auxiliary light spots running power all the time or do you need to purchase a switch to turn them on or off??
Do you have any idea what that connector is under the seat just a bit forward of the fuse boxes? There is a white tag very near it.
I believe that is a rectifier plug, if i'm not mistaken there should be AC voltage on one side and DC voltage on the other. That allows the bike to run on stator even when the battery dosnt have power. I could be mistaken on the purpose but pretty sure they are rectifiers. I would leave them alone.
There's another white capped power lead in the "bucket" beside the heated grips connector you pointed out.
Is that another open ignition powered port?
@@cryagen2105 my apologies it's been while since I made this video. But if I recall there were wires coming out of the other side of that connection. Might not look that way in the video but I believe it did.
Hey Tim I have a traveler model as well. Could I connect the tusk heated grips to that OEM connector plug that’s under the gas tank or the one next to it? Thanks in advance for the reply
Yes that's where I connected mine. Just have to cut and make your own terminals since the factory one is specific.
@@2talltimadventures ok thanks
Hello, do you know what connector I need to attach auxillary lights to the factory leads?
No I do not. It just cut it off and put in basic bullet connectors
Hi Tim, I’m adding a twin USB port on the right, and a 12v socket on the left, to my ‘23 base model by here in Australia. I have hooked up my twin USB port on the right side to the green terminals and it works fine, but can’t work out where to connect the 12v terminal on the left. I couldn’t make out where the connection is on the right. Are you able to give some hints? Cheers!
I believe they both use the same power feed/ wire. Mine has the OEM ports on it and they are both connected to the same one just behind the speedo cluster. I tapped into it for my GPS also.
@@2talltimadventures Are you referring to the green connectors?
@@adventurebikesaustralia7627 yes the wires with the green covers on the connectors. All my front accessories are tapped into those.
@@2talltimadventures So should I splice the left and right ports (1 x USB and 1 x 12v) together and then one connection from there into the green?
@@adventurebikesaustralia7627 I think that's how mine is from the factory. So yeah thay should be fine. Not much draw on those types of things.
You can probably get a relay at an auto parts store for $5.
Base model has fuse in it already, or mine did anyway, 2024 S model.
So add that relay then add your lights and switch inline with lights?
Yes, the relay plugs into the factory wire harness and that will power the accesory leads. Then yes put a switch between the leads and the lights
I bought a 23 S model and all it needed was the relay to power everything up, fuse was already there.
Very nice. Hope my information helped you out.
How do you connect to the white fog light accessory plug near the relay? What type of connector is it?
I'm unsure what it is. I cut it off and used my own bullet connectors.
@@2talltimadventures okay thanks!
I am a rookie. How do I marry that AUX white connector to my AUX lights. just bullet connectors?
Yes that's what I did. Bullet connectors and heat shrink.
To What power source did you connect the gps.
Tapped into the bullet connectors behind the dash that the OEM USB and power ports are also tapped into.
I have also heard the 2022 model has more power for running all of that stuff!
yes it now has 26amps of charging power vs 17amps on the previous models.
@@2talltimadventures Tim, where did you get the 26Amps from? The manual states 80watts max for aux connectors, which is only around 6.6Amps. page 82 in the manual states that drawing more then the max of 80watts from Aux could cause the battery to drain.
@@terrymiller5246 26 amps is the output power of the charging system
@@2talltimadventures thx for the quick reply. I can't find any place that states the charging system is 26Amps.
@@terrymiller5246 here is a article thays says it. ultimatemotorcycling.com/2021/01/26/2022-kawasaki-klr650-first-look-14-fast-facts/amp/
