More 2022 Kawasaki KLR 650 Adventure Mods: Windscreen Risers, Center Stand, and Throttle Lock

- One of the most fun things to do during the colder winter months is adding new mods to your dual sport or adventure motorcycle. I just got three awesome new Kawasaki KLR 650 upgrades, and I'm stoked to get them on the bike!
First up, the 2022 Kawasaki KLR 650 center stand from Happy Trails moto. This adjustable KLR 650 center stand is incredibly easy to install and works really well with the bike. Installing the KLR center stand took no more than 15 minutes and was as easy and removing and replacing four bolts on the footpeg mounts.
Next up is the 2022 Kawasaki KLR 650 windscreen risers from our friends at 3D Cycle Parts. These KLR windscreen risers move the windscreen up and also change the angle so that the rider gets a lot better protection than with the stock windshield on the KLR.
Finally, a must have accessory for any bike that gets ridden for many highway miles, the Atlas Throttle Lock. The Atlas Throttle Lock install was a quick and easy process, and I'm very stoked o have it on my Kawasaki KLR 650. This physical throttle lock holds your throttle tube in place so you can maintain speed on the highway, but doesn't impede your ability to reduce speed or decelerate when you need to.

I would want some sort of sliding mount for the windshield, for easy adjustment up and down. Those Atlas throttle locks are an amazing product, I used one of my T7.
I'm pretty sure there are other companies that make something similar that is also adjustable. I'm pretty happy with where these are, though.
Hey Ian, I make a set of billet aluminum adjustable pitch windscreen risers for the 2022 KLR650. Here a couple links to some first customer review posts on FB. I may soon develop a quick up/down bracket system to tuck it out of the way for off-road riding.

Center stands for the win 🏆
EXCELLENT!
I got those screen risers too. Wasn’t a fan of the near vertical position. Took them off and installed an adjustable Givi “visor”. Works great and looks a bit better to me. Hoping someone will come up with a better mount solution. I like the 3D concept but my ideal position is about halfway between stock and where they are.
Love the stuff from Happy Trails. Great people to deal with if you have customer service questions.
Yes they are!
That stand is so good. 4 bolts and done! Thanks for the recommend on Happy Trail Products
They make awesome stuff!
Cool beans. Just made the Atlas throttle lock install easy by watching you. Thx.
I don't have a KLR yet but love watching all of your upgrade videos. The center stand setup is slick, very easy to install and you didn't seem to struggle at all raising it up. Waiting to see your experience with the windshield brackets. I imagine they are less money than a Madstad setup. Got to like how easy the throttle lock went. Wish more products were as easy to install.
Excellent
Happy trails makes awesome stuff
I agree!
I think, you're gonna love that windscreen!
I'm a very big fan so far
Was going to get the SW-Motec centerstand for my KLR, but discovering the adjustable Happy Trails C.S., that'll be the one for me . ;)
I found some gel style thread lock… it’s AWESOME and doesn’t drip or make a mess.
Center stand is the one that is highest on my list.
Hey dog, check the mounting bolts on your center stand OFTEN. They tend to back out even with the tread locking compound (blue) supplied.
hello from the states. I myself went down like that last year on ice. On my nc700x And dropped it a second time as well getting off the ice 😂 well deserved coffee at the end.
Awesome upgrades! It’s always nice when the install goes as smooth as they sell it.
Looks good. The center stand is a game changer I’m sure.👍🏻
Dear Dork in the Road! Just picked up a Gen 3 KLR ADV model. Since watching your videos I've learned a ton and I appreciate it. However, each time I watch one of your great videos I end up buying something you recommended. Not sure this is sustainable long term:) kidding aside. Love the videos.
New to the channel. Loving the content and the intro and outro is just perfect. Takes me back. Keep up the good work
Going to pick up my new KLR 650 in Boise next Saturday. Wanted an ABS model in the tan color, but all I could find in the PNW were in the Seattle area with horrible mark up. Finally found a non ABS model for $7500 out the door. Still too much, but the best deal I could find. Just ordered the 3D Cycle Parts windshield screen riser since I am 6'2".
Thanks for videos I just picked up the windscreen risers.
Good day in the shop!! You went camping too. 🍀
Just got my center stand today!
Excellent content. Picked up the same bike / year / trim level w ABS and have ordered many of the mods you've recommended via your links. Loving the KLR650 so far what a great bike. Keep up the Adventures
Nice collection of farkles. Happy Trails has been making the center stand for ages, they are very popular with KLR650 owners. If they release their highway pegs for the Gen 3, yake a look, they are a game changed for longer rides. - Frank
the throttle thig fkn awesome
Had a happy trails stand on my 2013 klr, it was excellent. Not meant to be sat on while deployed however.
Awesome! 👍
Thanks! 👍
I don’t know if you’ve ever done a garage tour, but we’d love to hear about your cooler collection….. 😏 And just your general hoarder tour in general….
...you're mocking me, aren't you?
Whew Weeee they are proud of the center stand. I need a 20% off super code. I just bought a new milk crate for my KLR.. low on funds.
You just sold me on a center stand. Until I went to there website. They want over $220.
Forget that!
That center stand install was about 400,000x easier than putting my Africa Twin center stand on, which requires lots of praying, cursing, and some odd physics .. pretty sure it's easier to make cold fusion at home
Yeah I was dreading it. I can't believe how easy it was to install.
The accessories you need to install are the thermobob low profile drain plug and doohicky i dont like a center stand on my klr because it lowers the already low ground clearance
I have a center stand from Amazon it works great and it's $129.00 gocruse throttle for $12.00 I did pay more for my windshield good video. but 2 of the free parts you now recommend are way too high priced.
Very informative! Are you satisfied with the crash protection in terms of crash bars? Have you considered installing additional bars (in addition, or instead of, the existing ones) on your Adventure KLR?
I'm planning to do full crash bars as soon as Rocky Mountain comes out with theirs
@@DorkintheRoad - Wonderful - looking forward to your insights!
As always an excellent video. What tires are you considering for the KLR?
Im saving to get my klr!!!!!
Get back to the classy. game changer. KLR 650! Blackman in the house! I've got cancer according to my doctors on 13-27-22.
What is the point of the center stand? Is it so don't have to worry about it digging into dirt and falling over or is it cause it's easier to change a tire or something out on the trail cause the rear tire is off the ground ? Love the videos keep it up 👍
I need a center stand on my V-Strom. Hopefully, it's just as easy for me, but I have a feeling it won't be.
Great center stand. Hope that was blue thread lock ( not red )
will the throttle lock keep my whiskey throttle under control? I miss center stands on regular motorcycles.
Great vid! Are you goin to install the doohickey in the klr?
That center stand work with the 2nd gen klr? Love the bike. 🤘🏻. So tempting to get in, but.. im pretty happy with my 08 klr650
Would love to get your take on the Pivot Pegz MK4…
Dork in the Road: Thanks for the instruction video on the Happy Trails center stand! I just bought one because of it! I have a question for you: What are you running for motor oil? 10-40 or something more exotic like 20-50? These things are running at around 4,000 rpm's most of the time and I live in South Florida. Thanks!
I always just run whatever the manufacturer recommends
Has anyone tried installing the center stand in the new s model, if so how did it work out?
I’ve been struggling with weather to buy a center stand for my KTM 890 Adv R or getting a PitBull rear stand. I need it for Maintenance not necessarily on the ride but I guess fixing a tire in the field might benefit by having the center stand
Changing a tire on the trail is way easier with a center stand.
If you’re concerned about wind buffering try removing the peek on your helmet. Im 6’2” 240 and that makes a bigger difference than any windshield adjustment unless you’re riding a cruiser. For me anyway.
Sir, can you tell me what the throttle lock actually locks on to?
Wondering if it works with aftermarket grips (no inner ring), or if it requires the OEM type with inner rubber ring.
Thank's
I have a 2023 KLR s model I wonder if that center stand is compatible? Hmm 🤔
"Happy-Trails KLR center stand install, so easy, even a Dork can do it" Haha, you see what i did there, LOL! Hey Dork did your AT have cruise or was it a throttle lock system? My 2016 1200GSA has an actual cruise and that right there is worth the price tag! 😆 LOL. I am gonna need a throttle long for my KTM500 and so far from what I've seen on the one you installed that's probably the one I'll install.
I had neither on the AT. Just the old sore wrist
Just a heads up... the screws that attach the windscreen riser to the bike wiggled right out on me the minute I got off pavement. I replaced the 4 of them with the cap screws that were on there stock and it has been much more secure. You may want to keep an eye on them.
Good to know
Even with low strength thread locker on them?
@@3dcycleparts yeah, but admittedly I may not have put enough. I went a little light on it. Other than that though I love the risers. They have made a huge difference for me being 6'4. I don't have to take the visor off my ADV helmet every time I got the interstate now!
Can you please send us the links for the gen 2 KLR I’m 2018 🙏 Thank you sir
Hey dude, on the Atlas throttle lock, if you don't have the heated grips on the 2022 KLR 650, should you buy the bottom kit instead of the top kit, or would either kit work?
Tried the throttle lock. It looks like it was installed just like yours. When I get to hwy speed the buttons very awkward to push because they are wrapped around so far. Did you have the same issue?
Are the footpeg bracket threads still made of Zamac? I caught a little air and ripped the footpegs out of the frame on my 15. I ended up welding them to the center stand frame.
How is the center stand working one year on? Foot peg bolts and captive nuts still OK?
Did removing the stock kickstand disengage the killswitch that cuts the motor when the kickstand is down?
Oh, you have toothy foot pegs! No rubber there! How does it feel? Comfy enough?
anyone have the center stand with upper crash bars? wondering how far out the foot pegs are since both seem to mount behind them.
Is the 2023 ADV KLR identical to the 2022?
Make sure you let us know if you lose ground clearance in ruts and over rocks etc with the center stand. I have heard you get more buffeting from raising the windscreen. What's your impression. Thx.
Clearance seems fine and I'm getting way less buffeting. Really happy with all these mods so far.
@@DorkintheRoad Thank you for your input. Price is good too even if it doesn't work out.
check out Cody Stevens windscreen riser on Facebook. It allows you to adjust the angle of the windscreen while on the go... Very cool
How is the center stand holding up? Any concerns with it bending or snapping into the rear wheel if it gets hit going over rocks?
Hello, what kind of heated grips are you using?
I live and ride in the great windy North Dakota, how's the windshield risers with wind?
Was the oil hot? Level was in the middle.
I tried to buy windscreen risers from Happy Trails and they claim none in stock.
Where do you buy your products from?
Dear Mr. Dork: while these are cool mods, I notice the interest seems to be in making KLRs into Road Kings or something, my interest is in parts which will make my KLR into a relatively indestructable beast which will go places you didn’t think your KLR would go. KLX300 for the few places that KLR can’t go. So...how about an episode on what you could do to your KLR to make you confident to take it on your next BDR and leave the rest of those bikes at home. Thanks, and I am torn between calling you Mister Dork or Mister DIRT.
Tons of crash bars and stuff available now but there weren't when I made this video. Sadly I no longer have a KLR so no more videos on that one.
I want that sweatshirt. Would look good on my klr where did you get that bad boy ?
Link in description 😉
So I’ve heard time and time again you give up so much ground clearance with the center stand. This doesn’t really look like you give up much at all. Have you noticed a difference?
No not at all
do you know if theres a stock helmet lock anywhere on are bikes
Under the seat I think
Where did your KLR hoodie come from?
Link in the description 😉
Is the side stand is still operational?
Yup
I have the national cycle windshield on mine, You would like it better than this stupid risers.
Bike looks like some kind of gigantic, cyberpunk cockatoo with the windscreen mod. I'm sorry, but I can't not see it...
Yeah it's a little weird but appearance is not high on my list of concerns, personally.
@@DorkintheRoad oh yeah, that’s not a critique, I just couldn’t keep it to myself. The reason I’m watching is bc I just got my own KLR partly based on your reviews, so I’m following you for the good farkle and moot content.
Hi Dork, I had a problem with the Atlas Throttle lock. It would not grip the throttle tube. I tried squeezing the lower loop as hard as I could but even at full travel the throttle lock would not grip the tube tight enough. I used a pare of channel locks and I bent the lower loop, so I can't send it back. This is the second time I have had a problem with your endorsed products, so I am not going to link to anymore of your endorsements. I going to keep watching your channel but when I want to order something I will go elsewhere. I just noticed that your link to Happy Trails is still up, I asked that you take it down because the center stand is back ordered and the costumer is not aware of the inventory issue until funds have been issued and then a day after Happy Trails informs the customer of a back order and 6 to 7 weeks delay. Please take the Happy Trails link down.
Yeah dude I'm sorry to hear you had trouble with a couple things but I'm not going to take down links to products and companies that I know are quality because of one person's bad experience. I've personally had nothing but positive interactions with both companies and I'm impressed with the products I've personally used.
Have you asked Happy Trails if they'd cancel your order and refund you? Did you follow the instructions for the Atlas installation? Pretty sure they explicitly state that you're supposed to tighten it down by hand. Have you asked Atlas about a replacement part?
I'm genuinely sorry to hear these products aren't working out for you, but you're the first person to complain and I've made many referral sales for both companies. I can only recommend things based on my own experience and my experience has been nothing but positive. I understand if you no longer wish to trust my recommendations. That's your call.
Why, why, why would you put a center stand on a KLR that’s already too heavy for its power. Makes no sense to me!
Upgrade, and purchase more gear. Then sell and get another bike and start all over.
didnt even use any of the stuff brah
If you don’t pay for the parts, all you are is a shill for those companies
Or, you know, maybe it's my job to share products that I think other people might be interested in so they can find out stuff without spending their own money first?
If you are going to use the tusk hard mount conversion with the center stand do you need to use the tusk conversion kit cuz it seems like you don't.
