A Novice Monk Making Candles in the Forest

- The monk life is simple. We are constantly training our minds to be still both inside and outside. In this video, our novice monk Alex makes candles using items from the forrest at the Papae Meditation Retreat in Chiang Mai, Thailand. He collects all the leftover candles, cuts them up, melts them, and reusing them to make new and beautiful. To create the outer shell for the candle making, he uses bamboo which is a resource of the forest. He pours the hot candle wax in the bamboo chute and lets to cool down overnight. Once done, he cracks it open, cleans it up and offers it to the Buddha and uses it for his meditation. Such a simple process but the Young Monk worked and made the Candles with such dedication & devotion.
How rewarding to see the finished product, I will think of this every time I light a candle.
For 12 Minutes 17 Seconds I was riveted to the screen as if I was watching a Hollywood Blockbuster.
It is the simple things in life that are so rewarding and give us the most satisfaction.

Looking at this video reminded me of the time I did my novitiate at Wat Arun. The folding of the robes for formal and informal occasions. The morning and evening chantings. Wonderful memories but most importantly how I follow the precepts given by my preceptor till today. Sadhu sadhu sadhu 🙏. May the triple gem bless everyone and may they attain Nibbanic peace one day.

I go wild camping often , only with a basher, not a tent. A sleeping bag. in winter and summer, into the forest, nature has so much to offer. make a small fire and contemplate..
I save used wax.from candles, to make my own candles, always have done.
I also make little stools to sit on, out of scrap wood. I make tall bird feeders, all by hand. I give them away . I also love feeding the wild birds. I can sow ,
I do all my mending , shortening ,trousers. myself.
I play classical guitar .
Just love watching these videos . I am learning life lessons from them all.

If u are a weak person, stay away from egoic/selfish people, that kind of person find satisfaction to MK others down, sad, suffered. U must remember who the persons who MK u sad, stay away from them, save yrself. No one can save u, accept u, yrself. U hv to be smart.
I read many books when i was down, maybe u should read 2. The books i like: the essential yoga sutra (geshe Michael roach n Christie mcnally); how to see yr self as u really are (Dalai lama); inner revolution (Robert Thurman).

Great video thanks! A Very contemplative life, and meditative work. I wonder if the white monks in your Buddhist Monastery were Christian before or at least culturally were? It is strange me to see non-Asian and non-Indian Buddhist monks. I know Buddhism has become very popular in the West for sometime, especially now. There is a lack of monks in the monasteries (Christian tradition) in the west. If these men felt called to monastic life perhaps they could have filled up the empty Christian monasteries. However, each person has their own journey in life that I cannot understand. The Apostolic Christian Faith is very difficult for many to accept because it is a life of renouncement and great suffering to become a saint, but there is great joy and peace more than any other state of life if one can pursue it.

The peace and joy the Buddhist monks experience is from the truth which is in their soul, God himself. It is according to their understanding. There is much more to learn but not everyone receives the gift in this life to understand it.
