  • 2024 Oral Health Webinar - Session 1
    Panel Discussion Title:
Filling the data gaps in dental measurement: Measuring Oral Health Impact and Optimizing Disease Identification
    Session Description:
This webinar panel will showcase the efforts of oral health researchers and discuss barriers and opportunities in population oral health research.
Disease Phenotyping: Accurately identifying individuals with dental conditions is important for advancing oral health quality measures and dental health services research. The dental profession does not routinely utilize diagnosis codes, and disease information can be incomplete within dental records. Novel methods in health informatics allow for the integration of multiple sources of disease information to capture more accurate diagnoses.
Oral Health Impact Profile: Dental treatments and public health programs need to be evaluated by how well they address dental patients’ functional, painful, aesthetical, and broader psycho-social problems. The 5-item Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-5) is a psychometrically solid and practical instrument to do this.
