I know this is 2 yrs old but, I have to say, this is the most beautiful and relaxing intro to a video, I've ever seen, the first time I saw it and again, now. Well done, Ms. Lori and Mr. Brown. God bless you and yours.
when my mom was the lunch lady back in the late ‘50’s and ‘60’s she brought home the extra applecrisp. We knew we were the luckiest kids ever! The difference with the recipe she used (and I use hers) from most crisp recipes is that her crisps had a thin firm bottom crust (I just press some of my topping mixture on the bottom and then add apples) to make it easier to cut and serve. It is still juicy, not a bar, but less sloppy when serving it to kids. Blackberries are coming in here now in upstate NY so it’s berry crisp time.
Apple crisps were a staple dessert around our house growing up. Pretty cheap, used up any extra apples and quick. And oh so delicious! Thanks for sharing. I just discovered your channel last week and I’ve been binge watching all your episodes ever since. Your recipes are like a warm hug from the past. Thank you for sharing!!
I'm really loving this channel. Feels like being with my family again. We're all scattered now so I'm sorely lacking in soul food. I'll make this this weekend for me and my mama. She'll be thrilled to get an apple crisp for her birthday
I just want you to know I am so happy that you were in my feed! i am so blessed to learn from you. I love your style of teaching us how to cook/bake/can and all other goodies
"I'm gonna get me just a little bit of this... ice cream". I see you and I share the same spatial awareness deficit. 😂 Crisps are the best! Heavy on the topping!! Thank you. x
Apple Crisp is so simple and so rewarding. Applesauce is the ultimate of simple and YUM. Top both with ice cream. If you can find Cinnamon ice cream.that great.
Oh my goodness, I don’t know how I missed it the first time I made this. My mom had metal measuring cups just like yours! Brings back great memories. Funny how that goes ❤
Oh my goodness! You are a beautiful lady! Mr. Brown is a lucky man. I love apple anything. Thank you Ms.Lori for all of your time and kindness. You are loved. 💕🙏🏻
I made your apple crisp tonight and it was every bit as good as I remember it from my childhood school days. I have tried many apple crisp recipes in an attempt to recreate what I remember and was unsuccessful until now! Many thanks for such a delicious memory!!
I Love when Miss Lori moves her head from side to side after tasting something......that just show us how good it really tastes. If the cook approves then you know it's good. Love it!
I just made this tonight❤I’m 67 years old and this is wonderful! I love watching your videos they are so relaxing,,,it takes me back to gentler days. Thank you from all of us❤️
Yay! It’s all fantastic. The crisp, the cook, the new hairdo! Looked like you had lots of fun, Ms. Lori. So enjoyable watching someone who loves her craft, and shares it with us. Thank you so much! 🤗🌹👩🏻🍳
I love listening to you I love your recipes they bring back school memories I used to help as a child in the lunchroom so my sisters and I could get free lunches The lunch ladies were so nice I loved the Shepard's pie and they way they cooked was more homemade than most of what we cook now I started school in 1958 Wow I was 4yrs old
I made my own Brown Sugar, but putting 10 cups of sugar & 1/2 Cup Molasses, in my kitchenaid mixer bowl, and mix until blended. It is really good and much cheaper.
I always wondered how to make brown sugar. I knew it had molasses but did not know the procedure. I always have molasses in case I run out of brown sugar.
I’m so happy I found You ! I lost my Phyllis Stokes from Southern frugal. I was so sad after she and Mr. Buckie passed away within a year of one another. You and your Mister remind me so much of them. Your recipes are so comforting and your voice and tone is so soothing. Thank you for teaching and reminding us that “real” food is a good thing. My Mom would always make this crisp! Good memories.
Miss Lori, have you ever made fried green tomatoes? That is not something we have up here in Canada but I sure have a lot of green tomatoes in my garden I never know what to do with and this is the last year I will keep the garden as I rent the allotment in a community garden but it is too much work and too many weeds never mind too many rules! Can you please do a video though for fried green tomatoes? You are such a joy and such a comfort during these strange, troubling times of uncertainty. You are helping so many people find a few minutes a day to stay calm and "sit a spell". Thank you so much!!! We love you and Mr. Brown!!!!
My granddaughter just made your pecan pie bread pudding today (10/9/22) so I watched this video to show her this hoping that she will make it next. The pecan pie bread pudding was soooo good.
Miss Lori I made this tonight and it was the best homemade apple crisp I’ve ever had thank you and Mr Brown for the Down home videos and recipes that y’all have given please don’t stop would really like to see some of your greatest family recipes and more of these school lady recipes also those always bring back the memories thanks again
I can’t believe the amount of sugar, some people use, and even when they’re using canned apples, and they’re still adding a boatload of sugar, and then a quarter of a teaspoon of cinnamon😂
I made this tonight and it was delicious. I didn't have any vanilla ice cream and didn't want to go to the store but it was delicious anyway. By the way your hair looks so pretty fixed this way. Thank you for sharing so much with all of us. It's a joy to be able to watch you cook and share your life on the homestead. God bless you both.

This is one of my favorite desserts of all time! It's totally fine if you don't use lemon juice, but it does do something to brighten it up a bit. My mother would make apple pies with this kind of topping too, also, she would make the pie this way and freeze it before baking. It's a really good way to have a quick, homemade dessert at the ready. Thank you for sharing and reminding me of a delicious dessert.
Miss Brown, you are the Bob Ross of the kitchen. You are so soothing to listen to as you cook and in the end you make something so very beautiful. God Bless !
😊 This made me laugh... I know exactly what you mean, but Bob Ross videos put me right out! 😴 I can binge-watch Whippoorwill Holler half the night... keep telling myself "just ONE more, then I'm going to bed!" 🤣😂
I am looking forward to going to the orchards this fall and letting my kids pick apples then coming home to make several apple recipes! This is a great recipe
My bunch loves any kind of crisp or cobbler so I make them quite often. Love your hairstyle on you! You make it look gorgeous 🥰 I pray the good Lord keep you and Mr B safe always at home and school 🙏❤🙏🥰
Thank you for taking the time to make a recipe. I know how it is when you are just used to throwing something together and somebody wants a recipe! I have had to do that too. This looks so good. Perfect! I will use your recipe. Love you guys!
Kathy Glaze I’m gonna guess it was either beef broth or consommé thickened with a little arrowroot - maybe even cornstarch. Probably little bits of cut up meat were added. That’s my guess! I’d love to know what others think. 🙏🏼
Ms Lori, boy did you just bring be back to my grandma making this. Oohhhh yessssss!!!!!.YUM, YUM, YUM. thanks Ms. Lori. Love you and Mr. Brown. So sorry keep spelling your name wrong, so I gotta fix it.
Mrs. Lori, this brings back memories from when I was a little girl. We used to take a ride every autumn to an old apple house and buy bags of fresh picked apples, pop corn, apple cider, pumpkins, honey, indian corn and more. We sat in front of their old stone fireplace and had free samples of cider and pretzel rods on a chiily autumn day, once a year. Then go home and make apple crisp, baked apples, applesauce, etc. for weeks. We did that for years and years. It's some of my most favorite memories growing up and even as an adult. They shut down that old farm about 7 or 8 yrs ago but I still have the sweet memories! Thanks for sharing your recipe sweet girl!!! God bless!
Today I was sewing and I turned on your cooking shows one after another, and I felt like I was hanging out with a sister, you kind of kept me company even if you didn't know it. Thank you for your nice comforting voice. Regards from Canada. Hug.
😅I’ve been wondering for ages what this “ crisp” was I kept hearing about on American channels... good to catch a video showing this..here in the UK we call it “ crumble”! The most popular are apple or rhubarb. I make mine almost identically to you. It’s about the only dessert my husband eats. Thanks for solving that mystery for me! 😅
The house my family and I moved into has a giant apple tree in the front yard so we are up in our knees in apples, my 3 yr old sister can eat so much before she explodes so Im looking for all sorts of recipes to cook the apples we are getting and seen you had uploaded 👍 and happy to see its a apple recipe! 😂 I made the peanut bars and my parents wouldnt stop talking about how the bars brought back memories of grade school 😂😂
Miss. Lori you any Mr. Brown have the best attitude and sense of humor! I love how y’all cn laugh about yourselves. This apple crisp looks delicious! Can you make crisps with plums or peaches if in season? God bless y’all and your family! ❤️🙏🏻😇✝️
That's quite similar to my recipe and it's getting on that time of year where the apples here in the Northeast will soon be ready for picking. This is one of my favorites to make because it's so easy, and so good. Thank you for sharing. BTW, your hair looks great!!!!
I can not wait to make this. Also hope you'll come out with a cookbook, if you don't already have one for sale. Your recipes are amazing 100% of the time. Thank you.💙
NEVER to late to LEARN a recipe! I'm 70 and this was my introduction to making apple crisp.... 5th batch is in the oven RIGHT NOW! LOVE this, I'll never toss an older apple again, within reason! LOL Thank you for your recipe, we are going to surprise family with a CRISP breakfast our next trip to Big Bear!
Also Thank You so much for your tour of The Museum.. And I love the Penguins also , I have always loved to watch Penguins show.. So precious to watch!! Wherever I go , I watch The Penguins!
I know the children at your school love you and your cooking! You have a very calming presence! I've been teaching for over 30 years in elementary and I've asked at least 20 of them to let me work in the lunchroom. I love our lunch ladies! I'm using your recipe for Thanksgiving!
Lol, I will let my Dr know you said there's no bad calories in this if and/or when I ever go! 😂😂 Hee hee!! Tell ole Mr Brown, ya snooze us lose!😁 Looks great especially with fall coming, and I think outta all the desserts this is probably the least fattening anyway!👍 Have a blessed weekend!!💖
There was an old pear tree near our house that no one ever harvested the pears .... my mom couldn't stand to see fruit go to waste so in the fall we would fight the wasps to pick pears. The fruit was often bruised, over-ripe, pecked by birds, etc. but Mom cleaned it all up and made the best pear butter and pear crisps.
What a different view. I love it. Your hair looks so pretty today, you look pretty everyday though. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. It’s a keeper 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I like your recipe better than mine! I'm asking the family to do a "pick your own" at a couple farms when the apples and pears are ready here. Must can up a lot this year. Praying all goes well for those going back to school.
YOU just sold me. I will be making this. PS, I have found that if you use older, mature apples, the ones that are starting to wrinkle, they are MUCH SWEETER than the just ripe ones, so you need MUCH LESS ADDED SUGAR, because the they are so naturally sweet. Thanks for sharing
Ms Lori, Ur my favorite kind of 'old fashioned homespun goodness' and its grrreat to see ur having a 'really good hair day.' ;) Luv u & Mr Brown & sending best wishes to both of u to stay safe.
For some reason...( must be said with a Southern accent) I just 💜 LOVE YOU 💜 and your voice makes me feel so comforted and safe. 😘 Everything you share with us is SO DARN appreciated and I NEVER get bored of listening to you. 🙏🥰👏Sending you and Mr. Brown a warm hug. XOX Oh and YES, I made this just before I thought to browse for a recepie.
Love your hair!! So very becoming!! I had forgotten about apple crisp, so glad you made this today! Thank you for all your recipes and your sweet spirit, you are just a good neighbor and friend.... from far away!! Loving you in North Carolina!
FYI . If you press plastic wrap down on the ice cream to keep the air out, then it will not get freezer burn and will last longer. I love watching you cook.
Oh Lori, I just adore you. Love that little bounce in your chair as you are taste testing that delicious looking apple crisp. Love your new "do". It looks fantastic. I really like how you have made some changes to your pantry. Looks like you have been busy doing lots of canning. Your home looks so cozy and warm!
You sure are speaking my language now. :) I love apple crisp with canned apples. That’s the best in the world!! I’m sure it’s delicious. Thank you for making me want some now. :) Similar recipe as to what we use/make. Stay safe! - Tom “Outdoors and Country Living”
Cannot Wait to make this with my 8 year old grandson (I’m raising) for my b’day Saturday! Thank you so very much for all the warmth, joy, kindness, gentleness and Jesus you bring to the world thru your videos!
This was a regular pudding during my childhood, especially in winter. In New Zealand it is better known as Apple Crumble, but I still enjoy watching all your videos Miss Lori, they are a nice distraction from what is going on in the world at the moment, so a big 'Thank You' to you. I'm sure Mr Brown would have enjoyed coming home to that nice surprise. Blessings from New Zealand : )
One of my favorite, and like u,I don’t know why I don’t make it more often. I first tasted apple crisp in my high school cafeteria and I was hooked! Always made sure I had my 35 cents for lunch that included apple crisp for dessert. That was about 50 years ago.❤️🤪
I love that you cut your hair and you look thinner. You look Amazing thank you soooo much for the recipe im going to try that 😋 for thanks giving instead of Apple 🍎 Dutch pie 🥧

Great idea.
@@lg5221 what is apple soggy? Sounds like old mushy apples! Miss Laurie recipe is the only recipe I know as apple crisp.

that are starting to wrinkle, they are MUCH SWEETER than the
just ripe ones, so you need MUCH LESS ADDED SUGAR, because
the they are so naturally sweet.
Thanks for sharing

Your hair looks great! Love it! Your daughter does a great job!💇🏼♀️

Thank you so much,
I would love to visit New Zealand!
