@mrbloodmuffins nice. I am always at the Iowa races and I was at both Milwaukee races. Milwaukee is my "home" track. Hadn't missed a race since my first one in 84 when I was 9, so wasn't going to miss their return and will always be at that one as well as long as they are.
Nashville is too far, wish I would have been there especially with Herta winning who is my favorite driver currently.

That was a great 3 oval races to finish off the year. Shows why they need to be on the schedule evenly with road/street courses and what makes Indycar unique from F1.
Ovals can be a bust sometimes but when the package is right, it's the best racing Indycar produces as shown in the past few races.
Great to see Herta get the win.

It was great to meet you this weekend, David!! As a NASCAR fan I grew to appreciate IndyCar this weekend, as it’s so much more than the 500. The access you get to the drivers and the cars is incredible. I’ve been coming to NSS for years and I’m so happy that this race was a success. I renewed my tickets and will be back next year!!

It was a fun year for sure. Alex was the nicest driver to us in May with our bronze badge. He joked around with us in pitlane and pretended to steal my sharpie marker lol. Will Power was so cool too.I mostly go to dirt races in Indiana and Ohio but I will say the nicest drivers ive met ever are the Indy car drivers. That alone makes me a fan. Thanks for another season of coverage David. The season is just not long enough. My last thought is Daly better get a full time ride for 2025. He made us Hoosier state natives proud with his awesome fill in role for Juncos Hollinger.

      @Wily_Ambition6819 3 дня назад

@timothyheimbach3260 I would agree. 20 or 21 races. 5 of each or 7 but I think they're shooting for an even number like 20. The races on the schedule now have contracts done to race there for a few more years so they can add 3 or 4 more races. It just has to be the right market and needs strong promoting. Iowa is hopefully gonna be good racing again next year unless NAP-CAR decides to screw with it more than they already did.

We had a blast yesterday! It was thrilling. I went to all of the IndyCar (IRL back then I guess) at NSS and this was my first IndyCar race to attend since 2008. It was my wife’s first race of any kind, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Fandom was great! My only 2 suggestions, not complaints per se; do the driver intros in front of the grandstand and have some sort of portable winner’s circle closer to the stands. I couldn’t see them at all and the TV screens were too small.
Now, I heard some true whining that the crowd size was not all that great and the weather forecast kept people from coming. I disagree. It might not have been full but from where I sat, Section 146, row 46, seats 10-13 (right on the start/finish line) the crowd looked great and everyone was jacked up! If the forecast kept people away, (which I doubt that it did) then they didn’t do their homework and keep up with the weather. The forecast was great. I watched it all week and wasn’t worried about rain at all. Anyway, there’s a whole year now to promote for next year.
BTW, I didn’t hear anything about excessive tire degradation on the concrete and it looked like there was a pretty good second groove. I watched a recording of the race this morning and I didn’t hear anything about tire deg like in the early days of racing there.
David, tell your buddy he, et al, put on a fantastic show. Keep IndyCar and the fans coming back for a lot more years to NSS. Don’t let Mark Miles touch the planning.
    Thanks David! 10:51 10:51

Regarding your offseason plans, I did want to mention that I did like the "Hot Takes" videos that you did in offering your perspective on suggestions that the fans have regarding how IndyCar (or F1, IMSA, or NASCAR) can address some of their problems and be run better. I enjoyed those videos a lot and thought that they were educational, informative, and at times, pretty humorous as well. Thanks again for all that you do to help us fans get a better understanding of what goes on behind the scenes in IndyCar and what our favorite drivers face every time they suit up. Sunday-only attendee here (along with my wife and 2 kids), and the races were absolutely lit from the grandstands. I'm throwing the Indy NXT race in there, too. Even though Foster led all the laps, the lapped traffic played a role, and Yuven had a decent shot at him at the end after the late restart. IndyCars on ovals is a show, people. If you have the means and the time, and I know not everyone does, but if you do, get to an IndyCar oval. You won't regret it.

I completely agree ovals are the most fun, but Indycar is beholden to their sponsors and manufacturers and I think the reality right now is a street race is an easier sell to their people who put the dollars up. Nashville was brought back to be a street race and I think it's an easier sell to a race sponsor if you're presenting a race with "iconic big city backdrops" the racing product seems to be secondary.

So near yet so far for Pato, and not for the first time in 2024!
The final standings with the old CART points system:
    Points: 20, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 for the top 12, 1 point for pole position, 1 point for leading the most laps.
    Notes:
    1) I have also added points for Indy 500 qualifying: 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 for the top 6.
    2) I haven't penalised Will Power any points for the St Petersburg scandal as I wasn't sure how many points he would've been penalised if this system was still in use today. Though it is worth noting that if I did penalise him 10 points as in real life it wouldn't affect his championship position.
    1st Álex Palou 189
    2nd Scott McLaughlin 170
    3rd Colton Herta 169
    4th Will Power 159

This race was pretty good. It felt like Texas 2022 where the high line was there, but they were too scared to use it for most of the race. Next year will be even better!

I think the look at the cars this weekend gave me the vibes of the Aerokit until 2011. It ended up racing kind of like that, which was even better. Great race to end the season. Also, gonna miss NBC

Indycar needs to branch out of the Midwest more. Something like 10 of 18 races there. The Southeast in particular only gets St Pete, Nashville, and Birmingham. What about Charlotte or Road Atlanta? Both have large motorsports communities and good weather. And not everyone down here is a NASCAR fan.
Last, the season needs to be extended. 6 months gap is too much.

They also need to go to the West Coast more as well. I would love to see Vancouver, Sonoma & Phoenix all return to the schedule since all 3 tracks were pretty popular when they were on the schedule.

Can you imagine if it was Herta and Newgarden battling for the win. Two Nashville boys fighting up front wouldve sent the crowd wild

Hell of a race. Not just the pass for the win, but great throughout.
I think I'm in the minority here, but I'll definitely miss peacock. For someone who is often busy on sundays, It's so nice to be able to find a commercial free version of the race right on a streaming platform, without having to use dvr or needing cable subscription. I hope fox can do something similar.
As far as what to do in the off-season, are you not covering IMSA anymore, David?

NBC gave us so much great racing over the years, the only disappointment was that they clearly cheaped out on coverage at the end. My local NBC station joined the race 60 laps in, after women's golf was finished. I'm not sure if that was a national thing or not, but I had to watch on Peacock.

This was my first ever full season of viewing as a fan. (Watched some of past years but not thoroughly)
Sad to see the season end, I think it's honestly replaced Nascar as my favorite sport. Also, being on peacock made it nice and easy to watch so, bummed that's ending as well.
Still have a lot to learn about it but damn this series is incredible. Hope they find a venue to race at in the northeast soon! Congrats Palou and Herta

As a hockey fan in addition to Indycar, I felt the same sadness yesterday about NBC ending their partnership with Indycar that I did when NBC & the NHL ended their partnership back in 2021. I agree with David that Fox needs to bring the same energy to Indycar that they do for NASCAR. However having said this, I also really hope that Fox does not use the NASCAR on Fox booth (though it would be cool to see Mike Joy call an Indy 500) of any of their NASCAR talent for their Indycar coverage as a way to save money. Hopefully Fox can convince Bob Varsha to come back to the series.

Go fishing for a while. And when you come back, dust off your resume, and get it to Fox sports. You'd make a fantastic addition to the crew there. You did a bang up job this year! Whatever you do, I'll be following you!

They should add more ovals and actual road coarses like watkins glenn or road atlanta maybe. And richmond or phoenix could be cool. Also I think new Hampshire is the one with the almost flat corners which could lead to some cool racing maybe

It was a really great race on TV as well. I was rooting for Kirkwood and was surprised that Josef fell way off since he usually just kills everyone on ovals. Power just bad luck seems par for the course for him and opposite for Dixon when it comes to Championships. Palou just solid he's just damn good wouldn't be surprised when he gets his 1st oval win its coming I am sure. I think the series is at its best when O ward and Herta can challenge Penske and Gnassi drivers. I was at Milwaukee and Portland and both races were well attended good to see crowds late in the season.
