The diplomacy in this game is absolutely scuffed. The great powers involve themselves in wars they have literally no interest or stake in on the other side of the world for no reason.
war is fixed a bit but main fixes are yet to come. They acknowladge the problems and working for it but it seems like there are deep problems to be corrected

I played Japan this week a bunch, restarted three times theorizing how to get the economy off the ground fast in this patch. What I figured out is that you should focus on the construction loop first, iron, coal, tooling and steel and increase the amount of construction. Try to not go into the red, destroy construction sectors if necessary. Don’t bother doing the Meiji restoration early. You can do the civil war cheese if you want but emperor Ninko is bad and you can do most of what you need as shogunate anyway. Then Japan has this specific issue with its standard of living where the entire supply chain is messed up for groceries, acquire sugar, glass grain etc so the people can have alcohol and food, this should greatly increase standard of living. Abuse the economy of scale modifier. You should definitely be set by 1890 or so for your economy to boom massively, you’ll easily stomp Russia and you will not have the frustrations seen in this video.
yea that is the whole point, develop your regions sencibly and push the shogunate out of power over time is the safe bet. Doing the all out war will kill your entire economy because suptrise suprise war cost money ALOT of money
Honestly I’m glad they added the quick country switching to the game because sometimes having france attack belgium in the fifteenth war for wallonia and flanders just gets tiring. I swear one more war against the french and they might actually fall apart (I was kinda lying, it was 4 wars in 10 years or sth like that, I think even less). Playing germany in vic 3 (the patch I’m playing which is this one at least) is quite literally just the equivalent of babysitting a very spoiled little child.
To retake the treaty port you need to use a take treaty port wargoal on Russia. Why? PDX hasnt unlocked game testing in the tech tree yet. There is no other explanation for vic3.

Ah yes, that's why any country can defeat great Britain the strongest power i the game by navaling invading Jamaica or any random piece of land they have without a home navy and wait the war exhaustion to tick down.
I'm so mad that they botched this game so much, all they had to do was improve vic 2 but instead they just went a completely different direction, getting rid of lots of good things from vic 2 and then adding a bunch of things that are worse than vic 2. frustrating.
The only hope now is that in hoi5 might have actual economics (hopefully like vicy) which is something I think they said they want to add. If we are extremely lucky (which we won’t (sad!)); hoi5 could actually go into the Cold War and not be tediously slow

The game was rushed. I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be released by Early 2023, but PDX execs pressured devs into releasing it in October. Therefore all the problems we've seen. My recommendation would be to treat it as an Early Access game as of now.
"I can't take these treaty ports back" The Province they are in is not only IN THE LIST to conquer state. but the territory LIGHTS UP when you scroll over it. But yeah its dumb its not considered a Reconquest since they took it off you.

Pulling the control of armies from the players honest to god is one of the dumbest ideas I could ever think to do. If AI was good enough for it, I wouldnt mind, but it never is.
Yeah, I've found it best to try just playing tall as a nation that is either: a. part of a large market (like the British Empire or Qing Market) b. has a huge population to support a domestic market (Japan is great for this) Attempt to avoid war at all costs, because the system is confusing and broken. Engage in minimal colonialism unless you are going to integrate the state (like Hokkaido for Japan), or if it has essential resources (like oil) because it tends to tank your standard of living, GDP and Literacy, and requires a ton of investment and suppression. Better to just use free trade to import in most scenarios. Finally, realise that if you are a part of a foreign market, particularly if you are a subject, any war will tank your economy, even if you are not personally at war (learnt that the hard way as the Ionian islands when Britain went to war and all of a sudden, my trade route was blockaded, for some reason my market access dropped, and we went into a death spiral of debt). Basically, the war system needs a total overhaul (this is easily the worst issue for me, so I just avoid war), and there are a lot of other issues with the game. That said, I still enjoy the game, but its about a 6/10 right now.
Ah yes i rememeber the battle of antietam took half a year to finish. And when the british took back their colonies from the USA by just occupying D.C not anything else for a month. And who can forget that time when one african unit equipt with spears woon against a French naval invasion equipt with cannons muskets and opium.

First of all respect for playing till the end, also quite good editing and good commentary. Poor gameplay though, your understanding of interest groups economy etc is kind of primal as far as I can tell. Long battles and so on are pretty shit though, but the right updates probably only happen if content creators start playing actually well. If you want to learn the game I would highly reccomend gerneralist gaming.
What? Interest Groups, Economy all that stuff is pretty simple. You need to remember there is a lot of stuff I cut out of the videos, and playing Japan the most optimal way would be a lot more boring.

I dunno know why you are all Struggling so much. I didn't even have to go through a revolution, just a mega-doom loop of unending law change times.... Though majority of the Pacific was colonized by me lol... Though that is one of the core plays as Japan. You must colonize majority of Pacific before the Europeon's come. Get the southern New zealand before britain and there you have a good amount of raw resource deposits. After that I just commenced on the MEGA WAR for the Indonesian states where I vassalized about 90% of Indonesia (excluding DEIC). And after that I got a colony starting in Africa to get those street resources. Also starting your fleet after getting the colonies is the best strategy. If you did not beat an EU nation already, you can attack spain when they are in an war with another EU country by attacking Philiphines. With your fleet between the Indo-sea routes blocking the Spanish you can sorta (spawn kill) spanish ships enough times to exhaust them and getting recognized as a power. Though by the time I got 800K GDP Austria-Hungary has 2m GDP. So who am I to judge.
Well you do approach this game from the "wrong" point of view. It's supposed to be about economy, not painting the map with wars. In 1927 at the end of the video you had the economy of an 1880 Japan.
