I'm watching this from the United States where I currently live. I lived and married in Benin City before I left nearly 30 years ago. The city has indeed witnessed massive modern transformation since then. Thanks for showcasing clean, well developed beautiful Nigerian cities to the world with quality videos like this one to counter negative narratives about Nigeria. Keep up the good work.
We once told a story about the great BENIN empire, it was a great kingdom know in Africa, Europe and America, i will plan for visit in my next holiday, i will be glad to visit this great BENIN kingdom.☝️✌️
Don't believe what you were told. Benin was an empire though, stretching westwards to Lagos and eastwards to the banks of the Niger river in Asaba. In all Benin was about 90 thousand squared kilometers in size. Many African empires were much larger and stronger than Benin. The Oyo empire was about 150 thousand squared kilometers, the Asante empire was over 250 squared kilometers in size. The Sokoto caliphate was bigger and stronger than Benin. The Zulu empire was the most powerful empire in sub Saharan Africa.
@@DonatusOkechukwuOkoli-zc7nzmugu, benin was record to have stretch from river royal which Calabar to river volta which is Accra Ghana and also according Hugh clapperton Alàafia of oyo told him personally that his previous ancestors used to pay tribute to oba of benin
@@ckayodion9792 My friend, nobody hates you or your town. When I was in Lagos, I dated a Benin girl named Osato. I loved her so much. The problem is, so many historical inaccuracies are coming out from Benin and these inaccuracies need to stopped. Your Oba is a very educated man. He should restrain and caution some of those going online to inflate Benin history. Merry Christmas to you in advance.
Rubber and wood business are in abundance as is palm oil Malaysia took palm fruit plant from Benin to develop a thriving economy. Arts and craft famous Bronze art in Benin great voice great presentation you needed to do more research into the kingdom. Luscious rain forests
Benin may well be the biggest city in Nigeria since the natives consider the entire Benin region covering much of what is defined politically as Edo South as a single unit. It covers well over 9000 km2 of land
So according to you: Benin = 9000km2 Cairo = 2,734 km2 Meanwhile the entire Edo State is 17,802 km². And of course, anyone who contests your magical figures is your new enemy. Why not just let people just enjoy the nice pictures of the great city without invoking hyperboles? Ok biggest city, then what? -
@DogonTurenchi-c6y Yes it may even be bigger than that. Edo South is basically Benin City so long as it is occupied by the native Edo people. I am not referring to the whole of Edo State and even at that, Edo South is about 60% of the land area of Edo State. Apart from the Edo who occupy Benin, there are Ijaws, Yoruba speaking Usen and Egbeta people as well as Igbo speaking Igbanke people. Have you not noticed that everywhere physical development has reached be it Oluku, Egba, Ikhueniro, beyond the bypass these days is identified as "Benin City"
That place you see (Benin city) was palace of the king. The actual kingdom was much larger than current day Nigeria. Although according to the internet, it’s just the city. But that’s based on foreign knowledge, not the Nigerian perspective. It was one of the biggest empires of history.
Woow l actually like the dancing!Never thought l would.😳The benin are the levites in the bible.Even that fake country that stole our identity have a group of people known as the benin but they spelt it as benn to blind Africans. Our traditions and festivals in Nigeria is hebrew tradition in the old testament,it is our forefathers way of praising and worshipping the divine, nothing like the religions and sunday service we know today. This particular festival is known as lgue(anointing) festival l think.lgue means anointing in English language..Thank you.
Are the benins from the tribe of Levites or from the tribe of Ephraim? I strongly believe that they are from the tribe of Ephraim. The history of Ephraim describes them very well!
Dear Benin people, the Reason why NNPC headquarters is in Benin is because We have a Hugh amount of oil & Gas in Benin, which the Federal Government is taken advantage of without properly COMPENSATING us….there is Power in Knowledge
How can you talk about Benin without mentioning the great wall- the biggest earthworks in the world built round the city to protect it from invaders. A lot of it was destroyed during the British invasion but some remain Also a visit to Igun street where the famous bronzes stolen by the British were made should have added a nice cultural touch to this video; bronze artisans are still there working till today. Benin is known for its great culture and artefacts and thats what makes it unique. Nice roads, buildings and other infrastructure are good but tourists dont visit a place for its roads, its the culture, traditions, food, music, arts and crafts etc that people are interested in. These are the things Nigeria need to sell to the world bcos this country is so rich in culture, traditions, great food, music, fashion etc
After refusing to share common resources belonging to old Bendel State to new Delta state just the Western Region did to Bendel State. Today how far?😂😂😂 Apart from Lagos, Western region not more developed than Bendel and Edo not more developed than Delta. Equity and fairness always the key😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Nigeria 🇳🇬 as a country (the 36 states and the FCT Abuja that make up Nigeria) is still a developing geographical area. So what actually is your point? Someone like you may not even have a good road to your own village in your state. What an irony!
One local government in Benin is equivalent to a state in Igbon land, Edo state is bigger than three to four states in sad east Igbon land, go and verify.
Why don't you celebrate others,? Why such a division and bitterness? Different ethnicity but one Nigeria, let's celebrate each other's uniqueness. Stay blessed
Bro, Binis are great folks. They, the Binis can be whatever they want to be (9000 sq. km and all that) as long as Binis stay in Bini's Lane. Congratulations to the Binis! But the fatal Bini error is to covet or fantasize about Igbo territory. That is when (9000 sq. km is shrunk to 1,204 km2 (465 sq. mi) and bottled in. Good fences make good neighbours.
