Hi Fred, In May of 2020, I had been exploring Gold Butte National Monument south of Mesquite, Nevada and east of Lake Mead from Valley of Fire, when I stopped at an Arco Station at Glendale, Nevada (about 75 miles SW of St. George, Utah) for gas and a break from driving. I was standing outside and I see and hear a beautiful orange Diablo pull in to this desert stop gas station. The car sounded really good but sounded louder and different. I looked the car over and talked to the owner and he lived in the little town about 1 mile away. There was a pickup truck there with a car trailer and he was meeting that guy to complete the transaction on this car he was selling. Told me of the 8 years of restoring the fire damaged car and his cost of $80,000 and his own labor and of course mentioned the LS engine. I don't know if the price you mentioned was this new owner reselling it as the man I was talking to said he had offered it for over $100,000 but did not get any bites except for something closer to what he paid to restore it. Then the economy was down at that time and he needed money to pay off his mortgage, I believe he said, and the $80,000+ offer had gone away, he accepted $65,000 from this other person who I believe lived in the Carson, Nevada area. I was a bit shocked as I was thinking I would have paid him that and had something way cooler than a fiberglass Cobra clone that cost around the same. Ran into a group of guys at Willow Springs with Monster Miatas that had Ford 302's but they do LS swaps as well. Long ago, I heard of guys putting Chevy engines in Lamborghini Miuras when their engines went bad as the cost of restoring the engine was prohibitive considering what the cars were worth at that time...only about $15,000. I wonder how they did that considering they are transverse mounted engines. www.carscoops.com/2022/09/this-1968-lamborghini-miura-used-to-have-a-chevy-v8-under-the-hood-but-fortunately-not-anymore/
Wow Terry, that's absolutely amazing! I absolutely would have considered paying $65k for that car as well! That's amazing. I wonder if the article I read didn't get the right numbers, or if it was listed at 100k, but actually sold for a lot less. Either way, that is amazing that you got to see it in person. Diablos have always held a special spot in my heart, even though I've heard they take a lot of muscle to drive, are cramped, and finicky. What a small world that you got to see the car! Also, pretty cool that you were near Valley of Fire. Rachel and I went there for the first time back in November on part of our trip, and it was beautiful. Absolutely deserted too, other than the park ranger running the entrance. Very cool story man, thank you so much for sharing! -Fred
@@FredsFullThrottle You said something about being a little too busy to get to your emails, well, I did send some photos of that Diablo. And yes Glendale was only about 10 miles from north end of Valley of Fire a part that is not accessible from the main and southern part of the park but from Logandale...all dirt roads, all primitive. You can see that north end when you are at White Dome at end of the paved road north of the visitor center. From the east entrance to Valley of Fire, you can see to the east across Lake Mead to Gold Butte and see the red rocks that are over there. It is similar to Valley of Fire but again all primitive and was an illegally used cattle grazing area that resulted in a major armed protest in 2014, the "Bundy Standoff"..."The Battle over Bunkerville"...FRONTLINE.
I greatly enjoyed the video Fred. I was born into Corvette Fandom from the LS swap side actually. From age 7 I loved going to mopar nationals and then watching a movie called speed zone which was basically cannonball run 3 and made me love Lamborghini. My first car was an Eclipse I modded like f&f lol then i got a 94 mazda rx7 at 19 for my 3rd car. I had the rotary for about a year and was having issues and then LS2 swapped it. I had an imported re emimiya body kit and sleek headlight kit, scoot hood, and Work vs-ss wheels, it was very fast and I preferred the looks to the C5 but the C6 was new at the time but I didn't get one until 2008. The rx7 was still a Frankenstein. Between owning that fd3s ls2 swapped tiny car at 20 and an LS3 vengeance racing built C6 at 25 I had a 99 Dakota 5.9 rt with built motor, and 2000 Plymouth prowler both yellow. To this day I wish that prowler had a V8 instead of a V6 I would probably still own it, the steering was amazing and I outran a C5 in the curves and kept up on the straights. At 6'6" I wouldn't fit in a miata, I had to change the seats and the steering wheel in the rx7 and barely fit. You could make a documentary on LS swaps for sure. Can't wait for my C8 Z06 museum delivery from MacMulkin. Real soon I'll add that to my charger redeye.
Speaking from experience, I did an LS Swap! I had this SUV and had it as my daily driver. I moved up to the LS3 with 436 Horsepower, but it was in my 2009 LS3 Z51 Corvette! Hard to say anything bad about the Engine as the car is still in my garage. Love the way it pulls with the pedal to the floor!
Doug, I LOVE this, that's amazing! What the SUV a GM vehicle or something else? Can you email me some pics if you have them? Ideally of the truck, but also the engine bay with the LS? Haha, that's amazing! Thanks for sharing that! -Fred
You have touched on a very interesting topic. The LS engine swap. You can find a LS engine in almost any car rolling down the road. I am a recent follower of your channel. You seem to be very exciting and straight forward. I am a proud owner of a 70th Anniversary C8. Your video of wraps and ceramic coating was very helpful. I am a big Barrett-Jackson fan attending the Scottsdale auction every year. Attending events like this gives a clue of the car world past and present. Keep up the good work.
Thanks George! Both for reaching out, and for the sub! I was amazed when I started diving in. I had a general idea about LS swaps, but once I started looking, I kept learning more and more and each finding was more interesting than the last. Congrats on the 70th C8! That's a great car! I appreciate your compliment about the wrap video, it's been one of my more popular. That's awesome about you attending the B-J auction every year, I have it on my list to attend one of those or Mecum at some point. I watch them whenever I catch them on TV. Thanks again for reaching out, nice to hear from you! -Fred
Engine swap I had a friend who did LS engine swap into Pontiac Fiero’s years ago Those cars were really cool and fast Brings back memories, thanks for mixing up your videos Lots of fun 🤩
Cool take on the LS swaps. Very interesting content. Looking forward to following the transformation journey in 2023 - thanks for the dedication to meaningful, interesting and well produced content.
Much much appreciated! I was telling another subscriber I was going out on a limb a bit here. Steering away from safe harbor (the type of content I've already been doing), and trying to branch out a bit. I don't want to alienate anyone, but also want to keep things fresh and interesting, and after all, there's only so much you can say about the Z06. I'll still mix that into my videos, but it won't be as heavy a focus, as I branch out. Risk nothing, gain nothing. And, true to my word that I'm not in this for the money or fame, but for my own enjoyment of cars, I'm willing to take that chance. I really appreciate the positive feedback though, to at least know that it's resonating for some people is really good feedback that I am on the right path. Have a great weekend Bill, and thanks again, it means a lot! -Fred
wow Fred, RIT, competitor of Clarkson University Hockey along with Cornell and Ivy League Schools I graduated from Clarkson in Civil & Environmental Engineering
Liked the video. A V8 swapped Miata is the best. I'm going to get one only have a tuned coyote instead. Enjoy the weekly but I know how much effort you put in. Keep them coming. Just don't be one of those weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, 6 monthly..See ya types. Your content is to good and needed.
Hey Thereissomecoolstuff! A 5.0 Coyote would be AWESOME in one, if you do do it, please let me know the details, pics, etc... Would love to learn about it, and even maybe feature it! Seriously, email me if/when! Don't worry, I will not be dialing back any further. Every other week is as infrequent as I'll go, I enjoy doing it, and am looking to improve and grow my content, rather than the other direction. I appreciate the support too! Have a nice day! Nice to hear from you as well! -Fred
I look forward to the more “refined“ videos and I totally get what a toll the every week obligation could be to anyone with a real life. I did want to raise a small issue about your racing team’s unauthorized use of my name. 😜
Hi Travis! Haha, *technically* it was for one of my other friends, BUT, you can consider it a hello for you as well! Keep an eye out, you might just see your name on one of my next videos! :) Have a nice day, always nice to hear from you! -Fred
