    Thank you so much for this and it might not hurt to state that you have to take the place chip holder off FIRST. LOL after taking that off it was smooth as silk.

    Are the chips universal for the colors or are they specific to the cartridge colors?

    I haven't seen the chips without cartridges.. Ughh, and they are like $50. When i bought my printer, everyone was saying there would be reusable chips by the end of the year.. Well It's past and there are only one time use chips available which isn't much cheaper than just buying new ink and using those chips. So frustrating, wish i had gone with an eco tank! :(

      same here I left mines in the box and just taking it out because it dont look like they are coming out with reusable chips anytime soon

      You can buy a 7/9 epson prong chip resetter from eBay if you don't want to buy new cartridges each time.

    Can I purchase cartridges that are NOT Epson 812 but are off brand 812, and use the chips from those? Trying to avoid the price of new Epson cartridges to harvest chips.
    I purchased chips off ETSY from a supplier but they DID NOT work and printer would not recognize them.

    • @McZell
      @McZell  2 года назад

      If you have updated the firmware, or if you purchased a printer this year that shipped with the newest epson firmware, the 3rd party cartridges will not work. We stopped carrying them for this reason.
      It might be possible to roll back to an earlier Firmware, but I've never tried it on THIS model.

    So after putting the chips , do we have to buy new ones every time we change the ink ?

    • @joshuavanalst2365
      @joshuavanalst2365 2 года назад

      It’s a one time chip. For the 7820 and the 7840. You have to buy new chips each time you run out. Still working on chip less firmware. Not done yet sorry

      @@joshuavanalst2365 do you have chipless firmware for the EC-C7000? I bought one a few months ago and VERY disappointed. I have printed less than 500 pages, and they were just document type pages, NOT photos, which I actually bought this printer for, since it does 13x17, and I have used all the initial ink, as well as a full standard magenta and yellow , and most of the cyan and a xl black I purchased. .. and the waste tank is 90% full.

    There is now a ciss system on eBay for this model without the chip, if I buy chips will it work continuously?

    • @SpecialAgentOso
      @SpecialAgentOso Год назад

      chips are required for 7820, period. you can't use a CISS with 7820 because you will be required to lift the carts to remove the chips, resulting in air and incurring several head cleanings to get the ink flowing (lowering the print count on the new chips you just bought.)
