Using this, I actually PR'ed from a 23.17 to 23.15 and honestly, I felt like I used so little effort with floating than going all out and keep pushing and dying out in the end. You're the best dude! • @theonlyexpress885
      @theonlyexpress885 8 лет назад +52

      _austinsteeby_ You can full on sprint for 200 meters. Explain how nearly all good sprinters have a 200 time that is less than there 100 time multiplied by two because obviously their start doesn't effect the time that much if they cant even sprint for a full 200 meters.

    • @lissellil1862
      @lissellil1862 7 лет назад +62

      I don't think they are full on sprinting(you'd probably fall out at the finish line) but rather have better speed endurance and hit the gas again after the bend. Seems to me, sprinting is not entirely about speed as some folks like to make it out to be. It's how you use your energy.

    lane 5 was my favorite lane in my 400, and lane 8 in my 200. I liked running blind in my 200 because I normally go too hard if I can see everyone in the first 100m. it's been 15 years since I've ran, and I'm starting back up again. Thanks for the idea, this was similar to what our club did for 200 workouts. Great video :)

    I am a 110m and 400m hurdler and I run 4x4 at a D2 university and your videos are really good. What helps me with my races, especially 200m+ races is keeping your form when tired, staying tall, pumping your arms, and always keeping big fluid long strides. Longer quick strides really make a huuuuge difference

    50m-Drive
    30m-Float
    is it the rest full out running or is there splits?

    • @timwelch3297
      @timwelch3297 5 лет назад +25

      50 meters and 30 meters is only 80 meters you still need to run the other 120 meters.... its a 200 meter race and you should run past the finish line. you should run fast drive over 40 to 50 meters and float and try to find one extra gear as you round the corner and finish the last 100 meters.

    • @maxpolentz4569
      @maxpolentz4569 4 года назад +5

      Tim Welch you literally just said what he did, he knows you would run a 50m drive start then float for 30-50, and he asked how to run the last 120. are you illiterate? it’s ironic you didn’t even answer his question either

    • @maxpolentz4569
      @maxpolentz4569 4 года назад +3

      Lucian Irsigler for me i like to drive maybe 40m and float around 50, then i pick up my “effort level” slowly for maybe 20m. the last 90m is a mix between floating but primarily sprinting. you must keep energy to not completely gas out at the end, whilst keeping up or in 1st of your heat.

    a 100 relay. will update on my place. i don’t really mind if i loose because it’s my first comp. (i’m 14)
    edit: really pleased with my place, i expected to loose because everyone else in my school weren’t doing that well. i was also against 2 private schools,and with not enough training i managed to come 3rd with 29.86 seconds, really good for my first competition yasss

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  8 лет назад +93

      Bolt is really a 200 meter runner specialist who happens to be very good in the 100 as well. He actually didn't even run the 100 and had to beg his coach to let him run it during the 2008 Olympics and we all know what happened there. Not every single person will fall exactly into these categories, just wanted to give a general idea.

    Great vid Jaret! I've always been great at the 100, but the 200 is a bit of a weak point of mine because I lack some endurance. I've been running more 300's in training to help with that, but I will try to implement some of these strategies to help as well. Thanks

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  8 лет назад +1

      +Nick Waddell Yeah, I know a lot of 100 meter runners with that exact issue. Sometimes its due to conditioning and sometimes just due to how you're running the race. I think making some slight adjustments to your race plan will go a long way. Good luck and stay tuned for more!

      +Jaret Campisi I'm a 200& 400 guy. Freshman in high school going on sophomore year now. My best 200 time was (24.84) and my best 400 time was (57.94). I can go all out on a 200 because I have endurance from running 400's. Funny thing is this year was my first year running the 400 in meets and I was able to run it well under a minute as a freshman, when most coaches just wanted me to get it around 59 seconds because it was really my first time doing 400's. My only flaw in the 200 is that I'm not a good starter because I'm lengthy but when I get good starts in a 200 I can run a fast time.

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  8 лет назад +1

      very nice man, some solid times for your age. Also, keep in mind, taller runners usually take a longer time to develop so it might take a little longer for you to reach your potential but when you do, you'll be running very fast.

    I have done distance for about 7 years. But I started slowing down in highschool. I now only hit a low 5 minute or maybe barley under 5 minute. So I decided to switch into sprinting. I gotta say, everyday you get better. I'm only just a sophomore but I feel that I have good form. But I haven't been timed in sprints. What I did notice is that in sprinting, I only speed up the more I go. So I decided to do 200 because 100 im not full speed but other than that it's all good.

I´ve tried the race plan, but the problem is that I accelerate after the float phase, but only a couple of meters

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  7 лет назад +8

      Pretty much everyone struggles with the last 50 to 60 meters of a 200 meter to be honest. The two best things you can do is have a solid race plan and continue to get in better shape by training your strength endurance, speed endurance and speed training.
      I'd suggest picking up a copy of my run faster off season program. It has all of these elements and will help you improve for sure.

    HI Jaret. Firstly nice stride forms. Your strides look awesome.
    Going to probably ask a dumb question here. So a fit guy who is going to run all out in the 200m and accept he will start to get slower towards the last 100m . Will he always lose against a guy of equal speed and endurance who runs the 200m as you mentioned?
    I always thought just train to get fit as possible for the 200m and run all out and try to hold it on the last 100m .
    i feel bad. Been getting my boy to do it all wrong.
    If the correct way you mention works then this could help him shave some more seconds off!.
    I definately got to apply this principle of yours.
    Thank you

      Freaky Blank run endurance workouts, I was fat like you are and just worked hard for endurance and it payed off! If you have access to a track do these workouts: day 1: 2x400m 1 min or 2 min break in between, 3x100m with 1min break or 2, and after your done finish off with 4 flat forties which is a lay on your stomach and stand up and sprint 40 yards sprint

    I'm a 200 and 400 runner, PRs are 25.03 and 59.29 as a 9th grader with 1 year of track experience now. At my very first track meet I had no idea how to run the 200 or 400 and got 28.1 and 67.13 lol, usually I can go all out 100% in the 200 and never slow down, but the 400 is so damn hard. I think the reason my 400 time isn't better is because in the back of my mind I'm thinking about saving energy and run the first 200 so slow and still have no energy for the last 100 so I might as well run the first 200 fast, when I'm running 300s in practice on endurance day my times are consistently under 40 seconds so I just need to work on pushing in the last 100 and getting out fast in the first 150-200

      I would say practice is best. The more you do it, the better you'll get eventually. You have to focus on the mechanics of it, because you can't keep running it the exact same way if it's not working for you. You have time, sometimes things don't happen exactly when you want them, but you definitely can do much better really soon.

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  8 лет назад +4

      just run towards the inside of your lane and let your body lean naturally. You'll also want to shorten your strides just a touch and focus a little more on turning over so you are able to stay on the inside of your lane and make the curve as short as possible. That's about all there is to turn running so don't make it more complicated than it has to be :)

    • @JaretCampisi
      @JaretCampisi  8 лет назад

      +Unknow Unknow Breathing isn't something you need to worry about. Just let your body breath however it wants and concentrate on your running form and being relaxed and efficient. Your breathing will get screwed up and feel shitty if you're not quite in good shape yet so that will come with time. There aren't any special breathing techniques for the sprinting events unfortunately.

      Question, do you believe that sprinters should have their entire foot on the blocks, or they should have their foot on the track and the blocks while performing the 100M and 200M race?

      The toe drag is very very advanced and is only used to get the last tiny drops of speed out of world class athletes so I would NOT recommend anyone trying it because if you screw it up, it will surely cost you more time then what you would gain.

      How much of your foot you put on the blocks is entirely personal preference. Usually the stronger and more advanced you are as an athlete the higher up on the blocks you can put your feet.

    That's an interesting split. 100m moving up and400m moving down. The 400m runner already does the float and needs power. The 100m runner runs out of gas and needs endurance and a strategy to learn the float. Cool video

      +Robby Izzo Ahhh yeah, thats a great day of competing right there! Used to do that split quite a bit. Just take it one event at a time and try your best to incorporate some of the things I've been showing you in the videos. Good luck and keep me posted on how it goes!

    I normally do 400m but yesterday i ran 200m for the first time and got 26.57 and i just used my 400 strat. Fast during start relax halfway then focus on something at the finish and go all out while mentally traveling to a whole different universe

    • @UndefeatedZoe
      @UndefeatedZoe 5 лет назад

      Relax halfway? Nah that won’t work. Start off at full speed, maintain that speed, then really get your knees high up around your the curve of the bend. The transition from bend to straightaway you should be accelerating, or at least trying. First 30-50 on the straightaway will go by quick. Last 50 just work your arms and stride.
