"mechanical efficiency" in running can be trained but only for a bit. The majority of this efficiency will depend on the structure of the tendons in the legs, especially the Achilles's tendon, and so this will depend on genetics. If you have genetically good leg structure, you're already ahead of the curve. Of course you still have to train the aerobic/anaerobic systems too.

    • @simonthebison
      @simonthebison 8 лет назад +2

+Kalashnikov Cortez Mechanical efficiency can also be improved by reducing wasted effort. E.g - reducing lateral movement whilst running to increase linear movement efficiency.
Posture and form through the posterior chain will also help initiate a better strike down on the track under the hips so as to minimize braking forces whilst running.
All that being said, athletes like Christoph LeMaitre and Kirani James are still running ragged towards the end of their races.

I've been running the 400m to build in endurance.
My current PB is 1.18.90. Down from 1.30.62 last week - mind you there is no out all out starts, or any periods of full speed YET. Hoping to reach the 1min mark and then maybe 50. Guessing I can top around 45, I'm not sure. The strat I use is go at half speed on the bend, and speed up a little on both straights, usually the last straight I've just about burned out. Before the last bend, I'm going into burning out. Big improvement from when I started, when I had nothing left at the end of the first straight. Really missing how I was in top running form when I was 16. I'm a natural sprinter, made for 100m but that near 2 decade hiatus knocked me off the mountain(also known as working full time retail). Gonna get back on it, and you're gonna hear about it. These videos inspired me to keep trying.

Hey buddy! Glad you're digging the videos. I've run the 800 a few times on 400 meter training and was actually able to put down some decent times (1:53 ish). As for the last 200 meter that's going to be a combination of your strength endurance training and how smart you ran the race. If you don't conserve energy properly you'll have issues finishing the race.

+Colossus Fitness I actually ran the 800 a few times when they needed me to run on our National 4x8 team in highschool...I believe I split 1:53 ish or something around there...you can still run great 800's off of 400 meter training for sure.

+Jaret Campisi haha shit, I did not enjoy the 800 at all. People always said the 400 hurdles were the worst race in track but I personally thought the 800 was worse...could have just been my training but man I did not like it. haha

+Jaret Campisi hahah I guess because you were a sprinter. That would make sense though! I mainly did 1500 and 3000m so that's why I liked 800 more. I did the 2000m steeple chase for a year and it was death 😂

The 400m run requires the efficient use of the five energy systems that fuel biochemical/bio-mechanical movement, more commonly called running. We do off season, preseason, mid season, and championship season training based on these energy systems. The only heavy volume running is done in the off season and this is done for only two weeks. By preseason my runners never run farther than 350 meters during a practice session. With this method I have brought 16 and 17 year old boys down from 51 secs to 47 and 48 seconds in one season. This year I had a 13 year girl run a 56.32 400m. When she came to me 4 years ago she ran the 400 in 1.07:5. Another 13 year girl last year ran 1.07. This year she ran 1.00.03. Fast 200m times are needed to run a fast 400m in general, although some 800m runners with good foot speed can also do well in the 400m event.

    • @morganeverly

The way your running these reps are at a tempo pace. Yes the workout your doing is good speed endurance for 400s if your running these close to 100%
Seriously if you want to set an example. Set the example not look like your jogging it
Your body build is more a 100&200
And lastly what the fuck are those arms doing

Victor Lim working on technique is the most important part of running . What i usually do during the week is do b-skips , high knees , a-skips , running b-skips and butt kicks for 20 meters than sprint out pumping your arms . Make sure to do them almost everyday so your body can get used to doing those drills . Everynight focus on your core because you cant run without a core so do around 200 situps or untill it burns and 6-inch leg lifts for 2 minutes . And for running the 400-800 i do three 300s , five 150’s and 4 50 meter sprints . And i promise youll get them times down . I ran a 56 last year in the 400 and right now im sitting at a 51.8 and my pr for the 200 is 21.9 . Good luck

I have time trials on Wednesday and I have always wanted to be the best I can possibly be. I never felt like I was trying hard enough in previous years and decided to actually train and work my butt off. I have ran in relays (200m and once 400m) I actually used to come in first in my elementary years but now I'm in middle school and feel like trash. I'm gonna go and practice on Tuesday after track , then take an ice bath and get as much rest as possible lmao so I'm not really sore. I'm gonna try the 100m, 200m, and 400m just to get all my times in. I'm also going to apply your techniques to all my races. Hopefully i can practice and remember some techniques and if I do get in a relay or even better then that a 100m, 200m, or 400m race, then I can have more time to practice those techniques and be even better at them when the track meet starts. I'll probably post an update to this comment and see how this goes. I'm hoping to be a little better then before but I,m gonna try my absolute hardest.

Gerald brown Texas is different. More athletes, better schools, better coaches, more funding, more track programs for kids, etc. I knew a kid who moved to Texas his sophomore year who did the 800m and 1600m. His PR that year was 2:09 and 4:52. When he moved to Texas his junior year he got down to 1:59 and 4:33, then 1:55 and 4:24 his senior season. That's a heck of a work ethic to be able to be able to excel like that.

I ran a 400 yesterday in 1:25.3, and last Monday I ran a 400 in 1:28.6, so I did better yesterday, even though on Monday I almost won first place (even though i went against only my team members instead of the two schools we were against) except I lost feeling in my legs from how cold it was 😶😶😶

I did a 58.0 in 7th grade. All I said was... I’m good if I slow down less than anyone else. It’s not like u sprint the whole thing. U need to be smart. Such as. Follow the lead runner till the end of the first 100m and then find ur speed in the first 100 stretch . And start speeding up along the bend and use the rest u have for the end of the race. Atleast it works for me. (I was top 3 top 2 in the colonial conference.so it may be different for u guys.)

Bro I ran the 400 for the first time in 7th grade that was also my first year of doing track ever and man I didn’t like it when I finished the 400. My time was 59.34. Yep high school is gonna be so fun 😭. Rip my legs also I need to work on my form and this video is helping a lot. People would always say that my arms look stiff when I run sometimes.

57 seconds to finish first lap of 400 meters is considered acceptable. The 4 x 400 meters relay race brings a record time of 3 minutes 17 seconds.

I’m in 8th grade and one of my friends on the tennis team just placed 2nd in the nation for the 8th grade 400m time (52.9, with the first in the nation getting a time of 52.7 and he also happens to go to my school). I want to catch up to him (I do realize that will be quite hard right now) so I’m starting to look at more videos about sprints. I usually work on distance (I do the mile run and also do cross country) and luckily I have one of the fastest times in the school but sprint wise I am definitely not doing any of those despite making the team. Hopefully I can begin to go faster but I am definitely not doing track in high school though.
