  • 5 Long Jump Take-off drills
    Video Time-line
    0.00: Intro
    0.06min: Drill 1
    Step-swing Drill
    Performed at beyond walking pace. Drive the hip to drive the drill
    This drill teaches you the importance of the hip swing.
    Make sure you drive the hip forwards and up.
    0.20min: Drill 2
    Step-swing Drill V2 Faster Pace
    This also has more emphasis on the foot contact.
    0.50min: Drill 3
    Alternate Hip Swing
    Again it’s all about driving the free-leg forwards and up, but in this case both. Work the foot into each contact too.
    0.50min: Drill 4 Free leg Landing Drill
    I use this drill a lot. Swing the hip, take-off, hold, land, take a step and repeat.
    Step quickly between each take-off
    1.54min: Drill 5 Free-leg landing with target
    The jumper tries to jump higher by aiming at a target. This is the hand of a partner jumper, who has to back pedal as the drill is performed. You’ll see how in the video.
    2.56min: Hip swing is vital for sprinting as well
    3.02min: Putting the drills into a session
    The five drills normally form part of a workout which will also include run-ups and technique work at the pit.
    3.23min: When?
    I explain when the drills are done.
    We try to get more and more specific as the season approaches.
    3.50min: Any questions and summing up

    These are nice but can you provide sets and reps please?

    • @Johnshepherdtrackcoach
      @Johnshepherdtrackcoach  11 часов назад

      Do 2 to 3 of each over 20m ... if there are drills for the left and right leg then 1-2 reps. It will also depend on the overall balance of the workout and what else is being done. These drills need to be performed well, at speed, so we do not want fatigue to affect the outcome. Thanks for the question.

      @Johnshepherdtrackcoach Thanks, John.
      Unfortunately, I have an almost complete tear of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus.
      Have you ever come across anyone who has fully recovered from this injury without surgery?

    Sir, I am a senior person competing in masters athletic events..confused about placing the foot during take off...is it the heel to hit first? pl explain correct approach..thanks..

    • @Johnshepherdtrackcoach
      @Johnshepherdtrackcoach  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yes the heel should lead the contact but it should not be too pronounced. It’s best to think of the position as flat footed. The last two steps should infant be flat-flat.
      I hope this helps and good luck

      You’ll get there - keep working on speed and take-off and you can’t go too far wrong.

      @mdnayeemislam8375 6 месяцев назад +1

      4.5 m is very simple but i think you're physically not enough good... That's why it happened...
      You have to reduce your body and try to be fit.
