Jaren ward to lil Shin: : "A boy. His cells have the highest concentration of midi-chlorians I have seen in a life-form. It was possible he was concieved by the midi-chlorians." Oops wrong line...
The story behind thorn and the last word is probably my favorite story in destiny! I'm super excited they are expanding on it! Thanks for the great lore videos!
Here’s my 2 cents: Guardians with ghosts don’t age, guardians without ghosts are just normal humans. Zavala’s baby face wasn’t really a baby face to me, just maybe an inexperienced face, if guardians did age we would all look old, and it seems to me that by the lore depictions, Osiris has been described as an old man for centuries now, doesn’t add up with the rest of the things we know. What happened to Shin seems more like what happened to us in the red war, we lost our connection to the light, making us mortal, so, since Shin’s original Ghost died, he was like us during that period where we lost our light, a regular mortal being, doing everything naturally, for a Child that is to age normally. Maybe guardians do age very slowly, but the lore doesn’t give me that impression. Of course this is all speculation from a lore fan, I may be right and wrong here and there.
Physiologically the process of growing is very different from the process of aging as well so it is entirely possible that an immortal guardian child would age normally and then just cap out around his early 20's. It'd be a weird experience though because some parts of the body are still developing while others have already begun to age so it'd be kind of funny to see an adult with baby face and skin and no wrinkles but the build of a thirty year old.
Let’s be honest, we all know we are probably going to meet Shin in-game at some point in the future. It seems like they have already chosen a voice actor for him as shown in the Malfeasance quest line.
@@vile7863 yeah. But they should not use a charecter like shin. Bungie will find a way to fuck it up. Just like osris and ana bray. And now we have the drifter.

Such a huge fan of all the lore surrounding Jaren Ward, TLW, Dredgen Yor, Thorn and Shin Malphur. Thanks for posting this! Was sooo awesome! And yeah, I think your suspicions are correct.
Love Shin Malfur's lore tbh. The battle between his "Hope" and the darkness within other "Dredgen" guardians is awesome. Especially with forsaken where the traveller is framed more so as a seeker of war it shows you that guardians still have free will to choose a path if they decide to. Even if the traveller were evil there will always be people who act in spite of any evil, whether obvious or hidden.
I’m actually glad that bungie released another lore tab about Shin Malphur to conclude what they released in D1 .. Its news for me that he was gifted the traveler’s light as a kid and he had no idea about himself until a later ago.. Its actually very interesting to know that you can be gifted the light and then for some reason your ghost dies, and you as guardian, if not given the right mentoring could spend the rest of your life not knowing .. Isnt it?! Haha! And I kinda established the fact that guardians do age looking back at Osiris face with his white beard and wrinkled face.. That legend is old! I like how they are developing Shin’s story now to later feature him in one of the expansions.. Most likely the Drifter’s one.. Once again, thanks for reading this one, Myelin.. Finally, one of our infamous heroes lore is explained.
Void-master Wow! Thanks for sharing that info with me.. If this is true, I can understand why they barely speak.. Our guardians must be frustrated with the fact that they are gifted immortality, but still do age! Hahaha.. Ironic isn’t it?
So...that means, if we had have saved Cayde...he could have been made a Guardian again. That just makes his death even sadder. Also, if we do end up meeting Shin, do you reckon those who hold the title of Dredgen will have a different interaction with Shin than those who do not? Also I was just thinking about the leaks of how there will be 'dark guardians' in D3, and if so the whole 'pvpve patrols' makes a lot of sense and is probably the best way for us to fight dark guardians, an AI combatant isn't going to feel like a guardian, but put us against a real player weilding the darkness, and theres an enemy to be scared of. (I do worry for the people who aren't great at pvp tho, imagine being put against a Dark Guardian who just so happens to be a pvp god)
@@Lord_Tyrannis95 eh, I feel like they probably are intended to be as when you do the Malfeasance quest the drifter mentions you are now one of his "crew"
I hope we have a choice between being a guardian or dark guardian because I think that would be cool. It would give the crucible a bit more of a dangerous and more of a lore thing. But it's bungie and they don't do cool and unique ideas.
The story of Last Word and Thorn is to me the most beautiful in Destiny lore, I can't wait for us to meet Shin Malphur and I hope he's well represented in-game
I HOPE you do more streams like yesterday, it's cool seeing epiphany randomly come across your face. I do believe we will start to understand the other guardians with stories that we will have to put together like this instance. All part of a puzzle.
I think the implications is that losing the original ghost made Shin mortal like every other Guardian when they lose their connection to the Light and he naturally aged until his connection to the Travelor was reestablished with Jaren's Ghost. I still Guardians age more slowly then normal people or at the very least the stress of being a Guardian does.
This was debated on Reddit, but if this happens, any ghost can "adopt" other ghostless guardian and vice versa. Ghost/Guardians relationship are not to be "replaced" so lightly.
I think it would have to be specifically a ghost that had their connection to their guardian severed happening upon a guardian who had had his ghost killed. I dont think that situation would happen very frequently but it does have a couple weird implications.
This opens up a lot of possibilities for Destiny! It has been leaked that darkness wielding guardians will be a thing in D3 and it seems like a showdown between Shin Malphur and Drifter and the followers of Dredgen Yor is approaching. Wonder how Bungie is gonna wrap that up but I’m looking forward to see the legendary gunslinger show his face in the game. Great vid as always!
It seems that one of the Drifter's goals in running Gambit is to get as many Malfeasance-wielding Guardians with him as he can to overwhelm Shin, the idea being that Shin might get one or two Dark Guardians (though considering his skill, probably more) but he wouldn't get all of them before he was felled by Malfeasance. If that's the case, I really hope that the Joker's Wild DLC doesn't pit us against Shin. As a Gunslinger main he's my favorite Gunslinger in the lore, ahead of Cayde-6 and Ana Bray.
I have a idea for your next video. I've always wondered how a guardian's class is determined in regards to the ghost picks their guardian. Thanks a mil if you make this video!

The story of the Dredgen and the Renegade has always been my favorite Destiny legend. It's why Polaris, my primary Guardian, pretty much idolizes Shin despite not being a Gunslinger like him (Arcstrider all day). Such a powerful force of justice (and revenge) is hard not to admire for me.
Compared to us it sure seems like it eh? But I guess he was chosen for a different and just as cool purpose. Preventing the dark guardians from destroying everything.
Just got back from reviewing memories on D1 and played cayde’s stash and after watching this I thought that he might be in that capsule ghost talked about with exceptional light
My guess was that guardian's are revived and maintained in their prime. We do see some older guardian's, like Osiris, but it could be that in his advanced age he was in his prime; perhaps mentally, fitting for a Warlock? Another thought I had was that guardian's are brought back at the age they were upon death, but I dismiss this due to the sheer lack of older guardian's. Everyone looks to be in the age range of 25-45. Assuming the former is true, it would make sense that Shin aged, as he was not yet in his prime

Shin probably ages the way he do to his weird circumstances, I imagine the light knows being an immortal child would be inconvenient and so his ageing slows
I think it's more likely that they dont age, but when his ghost died it made him mortal again so he aged like normal and just had left over remnants of light in him and then once he inherited the ghost it took that left over light that was in him and made him a guardian once more thus becoming immortal again
It should be interesting to see what happens Shin Malpur meets the Drifter however whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.
Hope. So interesting thug I could point out is that our ghost in the Cayde's Stash mission in The Taken king (where there's a little Master Chief Easter egg) says "In that pod is an extremely powerful guardian. Before you, I tried to resurrect him, but he preferred to sleep. He said the last war he fought was enough for a thousand life times". This could keep the guardian don't age and that ghosts can transfer light. They way it would work is a ghost could have resurrected a young Shin, as he died young, then the ghost left him and took the power because he was just a boy, but didn't kill him and let him live like he never died and would still age. Later on the line as Jarren Ward would die and the ghost wouldn't be able to revive him cause the light was extracted from thorn, the ghost would find the matching signal for a hunter in Shin and then, he goes Hunting.
Myelin i think the way aging for guardians works is that they dp not age physically (deteriorating) but in Shin's case, he still aged/grew to become a man developmentally, but once he reached that 'peak' he stopped aging and wont start looking older at all.
The noble man stood and people looked to him. For he was a beacon. Hope, given form. Yet, still only a man. And within that truth there was great promise. If one man can stand against the night, so too could anyone. Everyone. In his strong hand the man held a Rose and his aura burned bright. .... But the man had a secret fear. His thoughts were dark. .... Though they would suffer for the man he would become, the people would remember him as he had been.... Sad story, but really great. My favorite Guardian turned Super Villain, Dredgen Yor. "You have nightmares? Ever seen a nightmare? Ever open your eyes and realized the horror wasn't a dream? The terror hadn't gone?" Long live Dredgen Yor.
If the boy here is Shin, the fact to be considered here is that another ghost can heal a guardian, stretching to maybe even resurrect one. That means one of two things - either a) our ghost didn't even bother TRYING to save Cayde, in which case I am so beyond pissed, or b) that its still possible that we will meet this child, who we still don't have a confirmed identity for, in the future.
Guardians age VERY slowly. Shin began to age normally the minute his original ghost was killed because his connection to the Traveler was severed. Once he inherited Ward's ghost, the aging process became like that of any other guardian- very slow.
I write fanfiction. One of my Guardian's back stories had her being revived as a preteen and growing. Also work with a character created by a friend that is a child. Nice to have both possibilities confirmed.
If being gifted the powers of a Guardian grants you superb health, fitness, speed, etc - It makes sense that Shin's body matured into its prime and stopped there. Doesn't break the lore, guardians can still age to a point, but after that, they live a life of conditional immortality.
Awesome video yet again, love the content. 💙💚 And I'm wondering, What do you think is gonna happen with Calus and Our "Alliance" with him? I would really like to see the whole deal with Shadows and stuff
I feel like they age until they're connected to the light by a ghost, since he lost his ghost at a young age he was practically a normal human being but with hidden gift inside him. Until his reconnection to the light by Jaren's ghost made him to a full fledge guardian making him ageless and granting him the power of the light
Perhaps Shin’s original ghost revived him as a child because it knew that he would go on to become a champion... if the traveler chooses guardians based on champions that existed in the past, then we can infer that it has the ability to see through time to make its selection process. Perhaps the travelers also capable of seeing forwards in time and selecting guardians at an early age based on what they will do in the future that would make them worthy.
I never played D1... I missed it. So D2 is my first time jumping in. And ive heard so much about D1 and weapons. I've gone back n watched some play of Last Word and that fanning the hammer on the gun had me TOOOOOO excited when they said it may be returning. I want that H-Cannon so bad.

Let’s goooooo. I was waiting for this one after last nights stream!
YO hiphop! enjoy
Thanks man! I did! I’ve always be really interested in Shin’s story, so to hear it getting fleshed out is amazing!
So i understand Shin is nicknamed the man with the golden gun, but was Shin the first guardian to make/invent/use that super or Jared or someone else?
rumor says it was him
Shin is the first gunslinger. Gg has a last word model.
Chocomcbo yea he was the first
Its heavily implied that the golden gun used to kill Dredgen Yor was something never before seen.
Yes, Shin was the first. Hence why the Golden Gun has the same model as Last Word.
Welp I guess I got a target on my head I just got my dredgen title :)
Welp, you are dead as fuck now.
I love the whole Last Word and Thorn story
Let us not forget about Mithrax, the Fallen Captain who miraculously was revived by the Traveller itself.
I’m hoping that we’re gonna get “ The First Curse “ back along with “ Last Word “
The story of the last word and thorn has the best origin stories of the characters
The terror hadn't gone?"
Long live Dredgen Yor.
This would be an amazing movie in theaters
Also shin states that his only memory of his original parents was a spark of light which could hint to his ghost bringing him back to life
If the boy here is Shin, the fact to be considered here is that another ghost can heal a guardian, stretching to maybe even resurrect one.
Myelin blessing my feed
If being gifted the powers of a Guardian grants you superb health, fitness, speed, etc - It makes sense that Shin's body matured into its prime and stopped there. Doesn't break the lore, guardians can still age to a point, but after that, they live a life of conditional immortality.
I think we'll see Shin in a sidequest for last word in Black armory, and learn more about him in Joker's Wild
Awesome video yet again, love the content. 💙💚 And I'm wondering, What do you think is gonna happen with Calus and Our "Alliance" with him? I would really like to see the whole deal with Shadows and stuff
Ay, wait a minute... this is 4pm in the afternoon... I'm not complaining...
