I'm 82 and an introvert, also widowed. I have many hobbies and love my own company. I worked for many years and had more of a social life, but since I am retired I love having time to do the things I mostly put off for so long. I find, being alone, I am much more observant about nature and things in general. This period in my life seems to be the "real me."

That is simply amazing! ❤️ I’m an occupational therapist, I’ve worked with seniors for many years and I feel that it could go either way after retirement… many people tend to feel depressed and lonely.. but others just thrive once they have that time to do hobbies and simply enjoy the little things in life… I’m glad that you are one of them! 🥰🫶🏻❤️❤️ and I completely relate, when I’m alone I’m also more observant about the simple things 🥰

You and I seem to be kindred spirits.
I just commented, that I thought. I am depressed, but so many of us Baby BOOMERS ARE going through this time in our lives. When we are forced to be alone.it is good to know, we are not eccentric. I think how we live.or where makes a difference in our mental and physical well-being being.

Just curious about the labels we are either putting on or giving oneself at a rapid pace in America. You have been blessed with many years of wisdom on so many things. Is this labeling ourselves simply because we enjoy different things a common thing during your years. For me it seems to have become a modern day tradition. I’ve even heard those who enjoy having a clean home say they have ocd. I was raised that keeping a clean home was just life and part of our everyday routine. Just curious.

I too was a social butterfly when I was young, just loved talking to people and hanging out. As I got older and retired, I find solitude and having free time is a wonderful gift that I give myself. I love to do projects like sewing, reading, watching movies, take afternoon naps without multitasking, no agendas. It feels good now to just relax and do what I want to do. I felt selfish that all I want to do is think of myself and yet I told myself that it's ok, I've pulled in my time, I worked over 48 years, raised our kids and took care of all the home responsibilities, now it's time to rest and think about what I want to do and get to know myself on who am I.

I’m 73 and have definitely become more introverted since I retired. Relieved of dealing with so many people so much of the time has brought peace back into my life. I can only “people” on a limited basis. Too much too many days in a row wears be out even when it’s folks I love and we’re doing things I want to do. Grateful that hubby is not very social and we just enjoy each other and the great outdoors!!

This is my life too, Evie. My younger self would have never believed it. But I have found so much peace by making my circle of loved ones and friends small. Our time together is so much more meaningful. But I can only do so much before I need to have down time and rest. I’ll be 50 in October and I wish I had found this peace so much sooner in life. Creators like Slow Life Stories has really helped me see what’s really important and to prioritize my life. I’m really enjoying “living gently”. I’m so thankful.

I'm 63 and very happy being alone. My family says I'm "allergic to people". I really tend to like people, but I'd rather be to myself. Crowds freak me out, I can't do parades or concerts especially church. There's got to be a reason I'm like this, but I ain't changing who I am to please all the extroverts in my family and beyond. Only after reading Quiet by Susan Cain when I was well into my 40s did I recognize that I wasn't broken. I mistakenly (as many do) confused introversion with shyness. I am definitely NOT shy but I do require an inordinate amount of alone and quiet time, am easily overstimulated, etc. It's such a huge relief to finally know there's nothing wrong with you, per se. But carving out and claiming the time you need for yourself can be so challenging!
Best wishes on navigating in a way that suits and cares for your spirit.

I echo so many of these thoughts. I’m an introvert, 65 now and work part time. My husband is an extrovert who thrives on people and noise and chaos. After 12 years together I finally moved back into my own quiet house, my sanctuary. I love my husband but I’m reclaiming my peace, my space. He has come to understand this and is supportive. If I did not know you were in your 30's, I would think that you were of retirement age. You speak on this topic the way an older person would. You have explained me in this whole video. I have be retired since 2011 and gradually over the years have withdrawl from the larger society to become more of an introvert, and I love it. Do not have ANY friends and don't want any. Do not hold long convesation on the phone and don't give my phone number out. Those days of trying to fit into a society that does not easily let just anybody join the club, are OVER. For my birthday next month I’m taking the week off to do garden chores and on the last day of my vacation I’m throwing myself a birthday party with the ladies in my life over for a lazy dinner. 😊 Thank you for your beautiful videos!

Just turned 35. I've always been introverted (and high, yet invisible to most, anxiety). What I have noticed is that I am more direct and less willing to wear the perma-smile and be "sweet." I'm a kind person in general, but I mean less willing to stay sweet for the sake of others, which can be/has been to my detriment in the past. Honestly, a direct woman who doesn't come off as sweet/smiley/bubbly...doesn't really lend themselves well to mass appeal socially. I feel drained in public. Can't seem to put that mask back on for favorable office politics. I feel less willing to put up with people. I love being alone, being with my immediate family, a quiet house, reading, painting, stitching, being with our pup. I could also spend days, weeks in my home just chillen.

I recently read am article on as we age, we choose more to be alone.we want people but less and less.
I thought,I was just becoming more introverted because people have hurt me so many times.
I like my solitude. But my health is making me become more of a recluse.
It is also hindering me from going out.
Also I stopped doing anything of joy; therefore. I am not sure if I am an introvert or depressed.
I enjoy my utube, texting and emailing. I do write poetry and journals and talking to a few people.
I have been downsizing my home, for too long.
So basically my solitude is not as happy as I would like.
I don't miss being around lots of people and all the socializing.
Thank you for this video, now I don't feel so different.

Thank you for sharing how you’re feeling ❤️ I’m sorry to hear that your health is affecting your quality of life.. I’ve also read that it’s natural to become more introverted and enjoy our time alone as we age… but that’s the key though, it should be enjoyable and bring you peace and contentment… I have many hobbies and things I enjoy doing… if you have no desire to do anything of joy, there might be something else going on other than just being an introvert (and I say this from a kind place) ❤️❤️❤️

Getting closer to my late 20s, I can relate with everything you said about being an introvert.
For a long time now Whenever I socialize I feel the drain of energy both physical and mental. I love being at home, doing the mundane chores. I have always been an introvert but tried to adapt to the world unintentionally, because I thought this is how everyone is supposed to be. I am now giving myself rhe space to be this child I was 20 years ago!
BTW loved this video, it was a heartfelt conversation between introverts!

Our dear Claudia, I feel the same. In my 20´s I used to be the center of the party. Now I am 46, I have chosen to invest my energy in a small group of my friends, not "everyone". I love my time alone with my book, paintings, gardening, studying. A lot of social interactions exhaust me. Which wasn´t the case in my 20´s . So it´s perfectly normal, how you feel. And if you feel comfortable, even being alone or with people that you love, it is always your choice. Just enjoy. I love your channel (ujiii it´s growing so fast!) Best wishes, Daniela XX P.S. i have always appreciated my space in life as an introvert. As an introvert, I tend to listen more than I speak, but not because I am shy. Shy I am not. But I have friends who talk much, much more than they listen, so I found myself always struggling to get a word in edgewise. Then one day I decided to lessen having conversations with them. I am pushing 70, and I have so much peace and quiet now. Although I love my friends, I found that calling them every four to five months has been quite refreshing.

I am 67 and becoming more introverted as well. I have noticed it since covid. I didn’t mind the having to stay home, other than missing my children and grandchildren. I continue the quieter home routine with my husband still. I am an only child of an anxious mother who was introverted as well. As a child, I lived at the library, loved my books. I’m 64 and very much the introvert. I live in a tiny cottage in the forest, and I can spend weeks on my own. And I absolutely love it. I spend my time walking around in the forest and communing with nature. Just a tip with your knitting (I’m no expert though) wrap the yarn once around your little finger of your right hand, and that will help keep the tension.

Hey there - Yet another slow life video that speaks to me as both an introvert and a HSP (Highly Sensitive Person). One of the things I love so much about content creators like you good self, is that you are all so wonderfully deep and articulate (not that that comes as any real shock to me!) 🙂 I live on my own, and recently turned 50. I can tell you that for me at least? Becoming more of a homebody just feels like a natural progression!

I'm a proud introvert too! I had to force myself to be more sociable more often when my son was born and made some lovely friends at baby groups, but now that he's older and doesn't need to be collected from school or accompanied to birthday parties I'm so relieved to retreat and be more selective again!

I completely understand, there are life situations that force us to socialize a lot more than we would like… I’m glad you’re now able to live a life more true to yourself and your personality ❤️🥰

Nice video and I can relate. I am 62 and as time passes the inner peace has given me so much joy in living alone and doing things with no rush and the way I want things to be done. I am truly grateful that God has given me the chance to see things differently and always looking forward to see more of life's journey ❤️❤️❤️

The same is happening to me; the older I get, the more I want to spend time alone, and I'm not an introvert. I love to be around people, but lately, maybe after COVID, I discovered how much I enjoyed being by myself.

Claudia, I just came across your channel and I really enjoyed your video, and the music was just wonderful. I'm a southern California native, and now I live in a forest in Italy. Perfect for an introvert like me! I'm retired now, was a widow, and remarried. What a change, but I'm enjoying my quiet life. Thank you so much for the video, and I'll be watching more. Hope we can be friends. Love your crafts.

I am right there with you. I’ve been stuck in the restaurant industry for years. You always have to be “on” how I think of it. Friendly, kind, warm, just chatty with people. I’ve been burnt out for a long time but don’t know what other kind of job I’d do. I find myself getting overwhelmed and anxious when it’s very busy. I definitely enjoy my quiet time at home before and after work. Even if we are introverts I don’t know that we’re supposed to become completely isolated. I believe people were meant to live in community and help each other, encourage each other and be kind to each other and you can’t do that if your locked away. I guess you could have blog or platform of some sort but it’s not the same as doing those things in person.

"Solitude and introspection, " two of my favorite things. . . Love the colors you chose for knitting. My son at 12 was taught by his great aunt to crochet. It warmed my heart to see it and amazed me to see the patience he had to unravel so much work just to fix one tiny mis-stitch (probably because crocheting is not my hobby). Thanks for sharing.

I agree with you, as I age I have become more and more introverted. As a child, I was a social butterfly, but there were always times when I would keep to myself. I enjoy my alone time. It brings me peace and solace. Beautiful vase.

I used to be a social butterfly when I was younger. I worked in high-tech, which is faced paced, dealing with engineering issues and a lot of people. Now I am 63 and I don’t need all that external energy nor do I want it.i love being at home, being quiet and spending time with my husband and pets. ❤ thanks for your video.

I only travel with my husband. 🥰

Beautiful self-striping yarn, awesome clay vase, and so happy I found your channel tonight! I also am an introvert, more and more every year. At 49 I'm very comfortable with my own company, and enjoy lots of time alone in nature and reading (but I have a wonderful family and some close friends whom I adore, it's just I can only handle so much social interaction before needing a break).

Enjoying time alone in nature and reading sounds like a perfect way to recharge, right up my alley as well… and I completely relate to loving your family and friends but only being able to handle so much socializing.. (for me that’s true even when it comes to talking on the phone or texting)
