I think that was why they attacked, actually. Bok's son, I think his name was Flax, discovered that the Federation didn't use currency after the USS Stargazer happened upon them as they were both conducting a survey of the location (it had a large deposit of dilithium, hence the Ferengi interest). He thought the Federation was insane because of it and proceeded to attack the USS Stargazer. The book also explains why the Ferengi were considered so dangerous in the early days: the Grand Nagus also thought the lack of currency was a sign of insanity and actively built up the military strength and had rumours spread deliberately to put themselves into a stronger position once the Federation made full contact.
The humor is so perfect. I can't get enough. Am I the only one who wants a Stargazer prequel show at some point? (Of course only if they can find an actor good enough to play a younger Picard, as hard as that may be)
The silver Constitution class model in Picard's ready room was there because the effects team were using the yellow Constellation set prop as a study model for building the shooting model, and they needed something to fill that space. The set prop was a combination of AMT Enterprise kit parts and parts from several Anime model kits.
The Stargazer, when starfleet engineers scraped the ship design barrel for ugly ideas. " yes, No. 1, my old command, Stargazer, we used to call her ...... old deep dish ".
USS Constellation, an 1850s sloop of war, was rebuilt and is now on display in Baltimore. Coincidentally, USS Constitution is also still around, and is famously berthed in Boston.
I have an idea on the "rocks". Maybe the bridge is well insulated with something like glass foam insulation and when they receive damage it breaks apart into rock like chunks. Need that insulation for when you lose life support. Would prolong the crew for a while before freezing to death. Just a thought, look it up.
If you look back to TOS episode the Balance of terror there is a scene when they explain what plasma does to whatever metal is used in ship construction. Those "rocks" are probably pieces of metal, melted bcz of plasma conduits overloading.
that's not rocks... that's whatever plastic they use to make the layer that covers the bulkheads. that carpet they step on, on the bridge? probably that stuff underneath it. those metal strips running around the outer rim of the bridge of the E? that stuff in between them. the roof panels? that's not wood, that's probably that stuff.
What you mean is ablative armour... that’s a thing. Maybe for, wait for it... Junkball? Maybe junkball should make a video about ablative armour that turns into balls of junk on impact on the bridge. And yes. I am a genius. Just a very dumb one.

The Constellation Class Starship is a beauty. Some may call her Fugly, but she has her charms perhaps more so than the Constitution class in a way - and I am obsessed with the Consitution class.
Having Picard captain a Constitution-class ship would have been amazing. What a great callback it would have been if that Connie-class had been the USS New Jersey, the only remaining Constitution-class in the Picard era.
I always felt like the the Stargazer / Constellation class ships were originally built as heavy cruisers with redundant back up systems for optimal combat survival. We know 4 warp nacelles didn’t make any ship faster then two. But if damage taken you can guarantee you could still have warp capability. As well with on the star gazer as you pointed out it had the same impulse drives just turned sideways and there was two. As well as two forward torpedo launchers. In all honesty this was a ship designed for combat and survivability. Of course like most military projects just because of all the redundancy in systems would have made it a resource heavy and costly ship to produce. So not surprised starfleet would have gone back to ships with only 2 warp nacelles. Came down to quantity over quality. Anyways just my two sense. Still one of my favourite ships in cannon though.
Great little history of a neat little ship. I always liked the way the Constellation class looked. "We are forced to abandon our starship. May she find her way without us."
I got it, and was very disapointed. The Saucer is Flatter then it should be. Its as flat as if it was a Constitution class saucer.. but the Contellation class saucer is very thick.. like 3 times a s thick.. Other then that, it wasn't bad.
Mr. Aldrich That was actually the silver Constitution style ship also mentioned in this episode. It showed up in several other places and is a distinct variant, with nacelles mounted sideways and with dark panels across the edge of the saucer. Possibly shuttle/cargo bays like the Stargazer had.
twenty one cries for help Hard to believe that anyone who wants lots of explosive ship combat would recognize the class. The old fans that know of the Stargazer probably aren’t looking for freemium combat games. Never tried it, myself.

Rocks! Today there is a type of insulation sometimes called rock wool insulation. It is highly efficient, fire proof and made of rock mineral the same way they make fiberglass insulation. It comes in stiff batts that can cut to fit but can not be bent much. Considering the cold of space and the high energy surges that happen when energy weapons get through the shields and contact the ship, Star Fleet most assuredly uses something similar. Not only would it help prevent and control the spread of fire it would probably act like a ablative armor for the interior by requiring an explosive energy discharge to break through the insulation before being released into the compartment.
Biggest lost opportunity for a Trek series is those 22 YEARS aboard the Stargazer with Picard at the helm. Always found it funny all the heat the Tos crew got re age, sticking with the 1701 so long, etc from 2266- 2280s. When Picard was in the same position and ship, caprain of the Stargazer, for 22 years!

A little extra fun fact, I was collecting the micro machines star trek star ship models. And there was also a stargazer, and for some unknown reason the stargazer is a yellow ship..😅 While the most other Starfleet ships have colours which are more fitting. Nah, the Reliant and Excelsior are light blue for similar unknown reason, but this looks still better than a yellow starship..
Picard served on the USS Reliant as a Ensign based from ST: Picard when he spoken about his history in of the Early days in Starfleet. The Yellow Model btw has NCC-7100 that wasn't the Stargazer.
