It's known as a venturi effect , NO not the wrestler ! Here's something to ponder for emissions , so you burn more fuel to pass an environMental standard . After 4 decades of mechanicing the logic seems flawed . Take care
Banks showed that with increased the exhaust to 5” throughout instead of having it bottleneck to 2.8” at the vent, it brought egts lower than oem and it decreased back pressure resulting in a horsepower gain. Should look into it and let us know what you think. Kory Willis did a bunch of dyno numbers about it. I think your buddies tip just burnt cuz it was powder coated and not cerakoted for the heat cuz his is a banks…
Jet engines have used this for decades. Reduces smoke, temp, and noise in their simple designs. e.g. PW JT8D used them. The directed air from a "fanjet" engine cools exhaust temp etc.
When they first tried that reburn quite a few plastic and fiberglass duelie fenders caught fire melting the PLASTIC FUEL TANKS and created some really LARGE truck fires at 60 k dollars while sitting at stop lights ... maybe we ought to rethink the cleaning process again!!!!
The same setup is used on turbojets and low bypass fans to quite the engines, it made 727 legal to fly after 1989. It was developed as a way to cool exhaust IR signature back in the 1960’s to reduce heat seeking missiles hit probabilities. My 2016 LML got 4 mpg over a 500 mile average. No code was tripped so the dealer could do nothing but they told me to delete it soon. Now that I am bad I get about 20mpg, kinda fast and I use Hot Shots Secret to reduce the smoke.
I work at a drive-thru carwash and diesel trucks come through and I get a feel form their exhaust and it's just so much hotter than all the other little gas cars. I guess all it needs is just a little bit of air flow to cool it down. Can I put a vent exhaust on an old truck which doesn't have DEF and doesn't go through the soot burn-off process? I've noticed the paint has burnt off the tip and the whole pipe looks bad.
Does a 2017 gmc Denali go through regen before I buy one because I want to buy one but it has that weird exhaust on it so I has going to put a 5 inch exhaust system on it with a 8 inch tip on it with a pulsar tuner on it but I don’t know if I should if there is a regen on it because I don’t want to buy a 75,000 dollar truck and then blow up someone’s car right beside me and then next thing u know I have to pay for there car and stuff
You have a nice truck, i have gmc 1500 2wd what are lift kits i should buy and what order things i should get to get a perfect drive?? Appreciate if you write down a list since am new thank
My dad and I just discussed this a week ago. He thought it was for smog testing. I thought it was to cool the exhaust. I think it's a stupid looking tip, and I'd like to cut it off.
I just bought an 09 duramax and got home and smelled something burnt coming from around the rear passenger wheel well would this be the smell you were talking about from the regen
It serves as a way to cheat the emissions as it acts as a venture to bring clean air in to drop the CO levels during testing . The solution to pollution is dilution . To bad Volks diesel did not put on there diesel cars they would have had no issues for meeting requirements . They used these tips on Fords also did emission test very low at end of exhaust but put tester end ahead of slots you get actual reading which is alot higher . Its like saying a vehicle that gets 60 miles per gallon is bad on the environment but 10 or 15 miles per gallon is better for pollution, did you get that one .
So much investment to decrease out going emissions why not go to the direct cause and perfect it their we want no soot, and soot is unburnt feul why not invest in piston technology to better burn the feul i am not saying it's easy it just doesn't seem harder then building a valve train that you slap on the top of the header the connecting a catalytic to the turbo then another one on the exhaust pipe behind a filter and other parts that cost a lot to fix and replace i am not saying that i have the answers i am just statijg their surley has ro be a better way we want to breath clean yes i just don'think exploiting a group of people is gonna get that maybe if we work to bring that without bending someone over we can make it happens because i am going to be honest i. This closing this here does't make any sense so much to do one thing yet it feels like someone is trying to beat around the bush
Mine fell off during the trip to Mexico
Mexico, huh? 🤔
You only "think" they fell off.
@@jamessalas9220 that’s what you tell the epa when you delete your truck
Thank you. I have these on my F350 Diesel and wondered what they are good for :-)
I knew what it was for as soon as I saw one. Not just on Duramax. It is to clean up the exhaust to pass emissions test.
Reduces the ppm because it sucks in more fresh air for dilution.
@hotrodray6802 it makes sense but it baffles me how they allow that
all newer diesels have vented tips. thats how you can tell to buy it or not. if its got vented tips and or a def tank i wouldnt touch it
Yes your right.
Ford had this in 2008. 2008-2010 does not have DEF.
@@chris1451 cool never said it did?
believe 6.7 rams do not have these?
Yes would enjoy learning about

He said that. PC works ok on gas rigs and non def diesels
I like the look of those tips. I put a new style lml / l5p tip on my LBZ.
Jet engines have used this for decades. Reduces smoke, temp, and noise in their simple designs.
e.g. PW JT8D used them.
The directed air from a "fanjet" engine cools exhaust temp etc.
Also destroys your engine from exhaust gas being recirculated.
I thought it was to pull fresh air into the exhaust before exiting for EPA testing.
Exactly.
The rest is gossip.
My 2024 zr2 dmax dont have that tailpipe. GM changed it apparently
Good information to know I didn’t know what those vents were for
When DPF was new Ford had problems with their trucks becoming flame throwers during regen, they started multiple fires.

I never knew that, but you explained it perfectly.
Never knew that, & never realized on hot it really got.
I had wondered why too, Thanks it makes sense!
Where can I get a sticker like the one on your exhaust tip.
What duramaxs go through regen

i thought it was for warming up my breakfast burrito in the morning on the way to work !
Yes regen video plz
Damn JW tell edge to get pulsar back n stock!
Could you do a video of those bags on your truck? Are those custom made spacers for the bags with that lift?
Delete the emissions and 5" turbo straight pipe 🙂
Will it throw codes if you delete the back muffler ?
That's what I'm wondering because it's throwing a thermostat code x2.did you find out?
Regent info would be great
Of course. Let's lower emissions by injecting more fuel into the exhaust system. Thereby, using more fuel.....
So if i dont have the truck deleted and i just throw an exhaust tip on it then it'll be hot af coming out the exhaust
They're there to coll of exhaust gases
I think they look cool.
I've been trying to reach out to you for a project I have coming up
Cut the beveled end off every diesel I've had, including my 2020. Cut it off and welded the tip back on.
How do we know it will reject
Makes sense now
I thought it was to prevent people putting condoms and rubber gloves on the tip
I wish my 03 would just start without putting either in it
Dude 15mpg! My 2016 Duramax gets that pulling a 35ft toy hauler. 22mpg empty highway 18mpg around town.
To keep the temp down on the exposed tip.
Could that cause the truck to throw codes for thermostat?

That is why gm's is called a butt trumpet.
It's not only duramaxes, the 2nd gens has those
I meant we were covering Duramax specifically for this this
@@JWMontoya Oh, I have a duramax it's a 08 but it doesnt have this exhaust set up. Nice!!!

Melt the trailer? Yea..... NO!
I'd like to see THAT!
My 2nd gen had it...
WTH is an active region?
actually no I have not wondered why those vents exist but then again I don't own a diesel truck both of mine are gas burners

Unfortunately it doesn’t help cheat enough bc the truck can’t be in regen during the test anyway
My 02 LB7 doesn't need this trash 😁
Same🙌🏻
Oh well. When I get a diesel I’m going to straight pipe it.
Let's here about Regen.
Original
Regen is killing any engine no matter what year or what make.

I’m not even going to watch this video because it’s blatantly obvious.. it’s obviously there to cool the exhaust.
But thanks for the comment
