Fantastic video. Thanks for all of the info. Every shaft is player swing dependent and should be tested with a launch monitor to see their numbers and how the club feels. Keep up the great video content.
Solid comparison and info here. Went with the Blue TR today. Did also feel it was a bit softer near the handle but lower spin than the red and black for me by a lot. However dispersion was just unmatched too, and it had more pop for me personally. Black I felt was super balanced and stable, but required a bit more labor and felt tougher to feel great about fairway finders. Averaged ball speed of about 168.5 with blue also which just worked for me. Excited to get it on the course
Sounds great bud. And it's exactly as you say. Shafts are all about what works best for you which is why fitting is so important. Forget theory and just test, test, test. That's the only way to figure out what's best for you 👌 hope it goes well for you 👊
Your videos explain better than anyone else. Would love see the black vs TR black, red vs red, etc. Also would like to see the Stealth Plus in place of the Cobra. Ventus and Stealth is the common combination on the Tour.
Thanks Chuck, really appreciate that mate. And yes those comparisons will be coming for sure, just need to find the time for those and all the other videos I have planned while trying to run a studio full time as well 😅 but they certainly will be coming bud. And yes ....well....the Stealth and Ventus combo I'm sure has a lot more to do with the fact Taylormade pay a lot of people to play their driver on tour, and as far as I know Fujikura don't .... Not saying the Stealth is a bad drive by any stretch but for me the Cobra is better. I have done a head to head with the Cobra and Stealth drivers on this channel but most of the time I just find it so much easier to get on with the Cobra. But you never know if I'm feeling good I may throw in the Stealth for you 😉😅
@@epgolfstudios Thanks for reply. One thing I noticed w Cobra during the test. Smash was between 1.42 and 1.43. I've seen smash w Cobra and Stealth 1.45 and even higher. Any thoughts as to why smash is low?
Great video to showcase the differences between the 3 shafts in the Ventus TR line. Would be interested in seeing the comparison of shafts in the HZRDUS Smoke RDX line and how they compare to Ventus TR line.
Thanks Kevin, appreciate that mate 👍 yeah I've not done much on the HZRDUS shafts, mainly for 2 reasons, 1. They are just so stock in everything, it seems every OEM has had a stock HZRDUS in their line up for years, again doesn't make them bad shafts, just super common, and I know they have the small batch ect but they just don't get me excited. And 2 I've just never loved the feel of them. So even though that's personal and a bit selfish, it just makes me put those videos to the back of the que 😅 but there is a lot of difference in the design and feel od them when compared to the Ventus and if I can I'll try and get around to doing that
@@epgolfstudios Fair enough. I’ve heard the Hextow carbon fiber functions similarly to Velocore in Ventus, so was interested in seeing if they truly work sort of the same while in action.
@@kclayton16 I know this comment was from 8 months ago, but I can give some comparisons as I just switched from RDX to Black TR... *FOR ME* +4* AoA for reference, the HZRDUS launched 0.5* higher than the TR, slightly lower backspin (probably 200-300 rpm), the TR is stouter but smoother feeling overall causing a much better timing... so I swung the TR rougher 4-5mph faster than the RDX (which was surprising, but I just fit into the Black TR really well). I caught the center of the face more with the HZRDUS *ON THAT DAY* being 45" vs 45.75", but I just cut down my ventus and my numbers didn't change much other than the spin dropping a little bit (100 rpm) and the height came down about 5ft...good contact, ball speed was 162-165. Hopefully that's helpful as I know there aren't a ton of videos comparing the 2 shafts
Best reviews on RUclips. Wondering if you ever tested the Ventus Black TR 5X? Ive played both Ventus Black 6X and Ventus Blue TR 6X. Curious where the black TR 5X fits. Thanks.
Thanks Chuck! And yes i actaully gamed the Black 5 X for a bit and really liked it. As you would imagine it's not a huggeee difference the the 6 X but for me it did just feel that tad lighter and a little bit more give in the shaft but still stable enough. So just a slight feel preference really.
Your videos just have it all. Keep it up!!! Intrigued to hear that you play the black 5x! Very excited to see you test the Black TR 5x. I heard in the video you say it feels a little like the red 6x. I actually always thought black 5x would feel closer blue 6x…Looking forward to what your thoughts will be after you test. I know you said you rarely tip a driver shaft, now knowing you play a black 5x did you tip your gamer at all (with it be lighter and all)
Thanks Purrly! Yeah I know, the Blue TR is a weird one for me as it does feel the softest of the bunch which I'm sure people wouldn't expect. And no I did not tip my gamer 5 X, as I said I like feeling something with a little kick so that mainly is why I went to the 5 X in the first place, it just feels like a good weight, stable enough and just with the right amount of kick
Hi, just found the channel and loving it. question more related to equipment, do you build the test shafts/heads in house or purchase ready built? building a sim room and want a few shafts etc on walls.
Hey Paul! Brilliant, really glad you are enjoying the channel. And yes we order demo shafts in for our fittings and I them build them here on site. However if you contact Over The Top Golf Limited I'm sure they can sell you the shafts already built with whatever adapter you would like on them, even a universal one.
Interested to try one of these. I’m currently gaming a Tensei White 6X. I tried the ventus black 7X and 6X but neither kept the spin and launch as low as the Tensei. Do you think this new Ventus Black TR would be worth a try for me? Less spin than the regular Ventus black?
Hey B W, as I say in the video mate, shafts don't really change launch and spin much, as you can see in the video the red span less for me than the black....so maybe you need a red! Shafts will generally only change launch and spin if they make you adjust the way you swing, for example if a shaft makes it slightly harder to close the face then that will obviously deliver more loft and therefore increase launch and spin. Or if it changes strike that will also massively change numbers, but you have hit quite a few to prove that it does that consistently. Hitting 3 or 4 shots with any shaft will never be enough of a data set to prove much. Especially if you are with a fitter that will just tell you what you want to hear.... But the most likely thing if you are really struggling with too much spin is you need to change the head or you need to change your swing. More than happy to look at shafts to see if we can see enough of a difference for you to justify spending £300 on a shaft, but that's highly unlikely. Heads make wwaayyyyyy more difference than shafts when it comes to launch and spin.
I've just started use the tensei blue 55 av sfw Xflex I'm similar speed to yourself. Not as consistent though lol but my strike point has really improved like massively. (I really like the feel of a soft shaft)
So I have a 2021/2020 I forget which one I bought driver ventus blue velocore shaft. The shaft your demoing difference is what ? Higher launch lower spin? Or just lower spin?
hey man you think I can use a 5x black, around a 106-109 swing speed with a 17 degree launch, been having trouble with high ball flight, thought 5x black is an option but scared of it being a board
Hey D, up certainly could, it's not a board at all. However if you want to get your launch down you certainly wouldn't start with a shaft. You need to look at changing the head first. This will make waaayyyyy more difference. And if that doesn't work then it's swing 👍
@@epgolfstudios thanks for the reply, I bumped the head down to 9 from 10.5, its definitely lower now, I was hitting 17 degree launch with 3k spin with my TourAD - IZ 5Xso I was hoping switching to black TR would help me a bit, how you like the 5x TR compare to the original, I've hit the original feel like its a bit bouncy.
I was fitted for a Fujikura Ventus blue 6X. The fitter told me that as soon as I get the club, the new shaft has a break in period? Is this true? I almost feel like trading in the new shaft I get for the one that I used in the fitting process so I can go use it right away.
What did he mean by a break in period? Assuming he's just saying it might take a few rounds to fully get used to it and gain that comfort and confidence in the shaft? If that is that case then that can be true for some and not for others. But there are a lot of variables there. In general I wouldn't worry about any break in period, if you struggle for the first few rounds don't worry too much, keep going with it 👍
@@epgolfstudios I think he meant was it was like an aluminum baseball bat where you have to "wake up" the fibers of the shaft. I guess keep hitting it as many times as possible. It might have sounded something to that effect.
It is interesting how your feel and data conflicts with the ventus marketing blurbs (red softer tip vs 🔵 & ⚫️and the highest launching). Is that unique to ventus for you or does that happen with other shaft lines?
Shafts don't change launch and spin too much to be completely honest so it comes far more down to how the person hits them, strike patter ect. Majority of high launch low launch ect is mainly marketing
fujikura speeder nx red vs Ventus TR Red 5 FW ( whats the FW stand for ? ).... 2 of the shafts for the stealth2....which is better and what are the differences ? thx
Great video!! I have black 6x and like it but spin quite a bit (3k avg BUT Im steep & spin everything as have a pretty negative attack angle) ball speed 168 to 172 avg, SS 115 to 120) my miss is low heel and thus right so I need a shaft that help me hit higher on face and more toe. So maybe red TRx is answer?! I don't really load the club aggressively (use to play 5.5 rifles in irons) but I'm just losing so much distance with that much spin in driver (and I'm not consistent enough to use a low spin head). I guess I could try to change my driver swing but as with most negative attack angle guys, I'm a way better iron and 3 wood player than I am driver. #frustrated
Thanks Todd 👍 yeah I mean high speed and negative AOA is always a recipe for high spin, especially if you have an out to in path as well, but unfortunately I'd say that's far more of a swing thing mate, you can chase improvements via clubs which you may get some help possibly, but it's unlikely you will get a lot for the money you will have to spend. And yes I get your probably a good iron player because of that delivery but then it just comes down to developing a wider range of skills, you need to be able to comfortably hit up on driver when you need to and then down on irons. Also I wouldn't be put off by low spin drivers, genuinely with the amount of testing I've one I would not consider them much less foregiving, just need to get the right head model to compliment your miss. If you miss right I'd go Max LS, and if you miss left go either LTD X LS or Stealth. The TSi3 also could be used quite well to protect against the right miss and they do an 8* head which may not be bad either.
I forgot to ask. Were these all tested at 45 inch playing length? (Sorry if you mentioned that) also for my extra nerdy brain.. Let’s say you had a 45.5 inch but everything else the exact same. How much softer do you think the frequency would be?
Love too see similar results as myself as you get stiffer the launch gets higher , I always deliver way more dynamic loft with super stiff and I’m mid 120s chs on course… reds the winner for me given my AOA is +6
