I'd say it depends on wheather I know the ability of the others or not. If I know it like in Wirbels case then the answer would definitly be another person, preferably the one I have a chance at beating. But if I don't know it then I'd think myself.... I would probably not be ably to easily beat it but I know what it can do and what to lookout for. Additionally, I could potentially just escape and/or avoid it entirely if it's like in the test to just reach the bottom. Of course that' would be out of the question if the bottom is blocked by a copy like in this episode.
Someone else. Fighting my own clone would be like having the exact same hand as the opponent in Rock-Paper-Scissors (aka Janken), and would lead to a stalemate if no other external factors are available, such as the appearance of the real Land (aka Glasses Boy).
I also hate mirror matches, because I'm always worried my opponent is more skilled/better/has better build. For question, I guess it's better to fight someone else, cos while you know yourself better and weaknesses and things to exploit, your clone will know them as well and how to protect against them. Übel vs Übel illustrates it perfectly, as they were equal and did everything the same and it came to dumb luck.
In a world of imagination, One can imagine to defeat another depending on how great their imagination is. There are also instances where one specific magic technique is undeniably strong but that doesn't mean its invincible. Think about rock, paper, scissors.
It's quite simple why Fern is capable of killing Frieren if you think about it. She's extremely good at stealth, and can cast Zoltraak very fast. She just needs the opening to do it
@@nirolf12there was a slight implication in ep18, when Feieren explained that pure mana amount isn't the only thing deciding the outcome of the battle. But she indeed never stated it directly. Plus I doubt that speed is going to be the main reason Fern wins the fight. But we'll have to see about that.
I don't know if it was intentional, but you bringing up Zoltraak specifically is kind of funny. (Not because it's been specialized for demon killing, but because of how 'new' the spell is). As for what would happen if she was able to get that opening... that's an interesting thought. 😶
@@CloudyCrow from the 3.5 SRD for (high) elf race... +2 racial bonus on Listen, Search, and Spot checks(perception and investigation in 5e). An elf who merely passes within 5 feet of a secret or concealed door is entitled to a Search check to notice it as if she were actively looking for it. They had a similar ability in 3.0 and ADND(2nd), but they lost this trait in 4th.
That doesn't mean freiren cant cast defensive spell as fast. Remember offensive spell needs to travel for it to hit the target. Its reasonable if frieren can cast defensive spell before it hits her. And i doubt Fern can go near freiren.

Relatively speaking, she is, but "unfortunately" her tests lean hard on people working together (which, after a battle royale "test," is less-than likely to happen). Mind, she implored those meeting possible death to use the escape they were provided, rather than die. On top of which, according to her, everyone who succeeded would pass (likely to counteract the distrust), and is including herself into the situation.

Its way easier to fight against someone else, like Wirbels Team, everyone got someone else to counter each other.

Myself, because I know my weakness. I'd rather face familiar opponents than those individuals whom I dont have information.

I think Frieren has said in the past that, while she is the more powerful mage, Fern can cast spells slightly faster than her.

Frieren said fern could beat her in one of the older episodes, just because fern can cast faster.

@@ydziros Fern isn't gonna fight Frieren 1v1, she'd just get obliterated. Frieren literally said at the end that they need to formulate a strategy
