    Tomorrow I will be 2 weeks post surgery. I hope everything will work well in my recovery. I’m so scared to hurt myself again.
    Thanks for sharing your experience, it has helped me a lot.

      How are you feeling now that it is five months ago?

    On April 24th I had my second microdiscectomy ( L4/L5) in 11 months. Had my stitches out late last week and I'm tentatively starting short walks. Best wishes to everyone affected by this ❤

    Thank you for this podcast, I’m glad I came across your channel. I’m in month 4 of L4 and L5 disc herniation, this is the worst pain I’ve ever felt. Now I’m seeing a pain management doctor I’m on nerve meds/pain meds and on 2nd steroid shot, I have a “small” disc herniation and the spine doctor told me we don’t operate on these. What??!! So you would rather me be on pain meds the rest of my life? I have an appointment with my spine doctor next month. My life has come to a halt, I can’t sit in a car for more than 30min without being in pain, I have to sleep on my back, sitting is so hard. Hearing y’all stories brings hope.

      I’m glad to be able to offer some hope in this awful time. I know right now it feels like you will be stuck this way for the rest of your life but you can get past this!

    2.5 years ago, i had my first back surgery after dealingwith it since 1999. They only ground out somevof l4-l5 disc even though l5-s1 was herniated too. I knew it was worse the first day. A few months ago, i had both discs removed, laminectomy and fused from L4-S1. Im still in pain but it does seem like theres more room in my spine now. They say the nerve pain could take a long time to heal from being herniated so long. I do think i walk better and have better posture. By the time i finally got the second surgery i couldnt lift my left foot. It wouldnt pivot up if that makes sense.

      I hope the nerve pain goes away soon. I’ve heard anywhere between 12 to 18 months depending on the amount of nerve damage. It took me about six months to recover physically and a year yo recover emotionally. I still gets flares occasionally but they never last more than a day.

      @@bedbackandbeyond thanks! Ive been trying to go through and watch your videos. Most of the other videos about this are close to 10 years old. Its hard to compare then to now since technology changes so fast. There arent many videos where someones had discs removed and multi level fusions either for some reason. Anyway, when I went to physical therapy, the therapist said nerves heal about an inch a month. I have long legs. That'll be a lot of months. The first surgeon made it sound like that would be the first thing to go away. At the follow up that was the first thing they asked about. I'm not sure what her title was but she looked shocked I still had it, "recovered" the look on her face and said it would be the last thing, could take a year or more. I was convinced they had botched the surgery from day 1. Every time I said anything their answer was " a year". I figured out why a year was the magic number. That's the statute of limitations on suing them.

    Omg thank you so much for sharing I have almost the same story. Herniated in Oct 2022, hobbling around until Feb when I think I herniated the disk more and couldn't walk. Pain levels 10, couldn't walk I ended up getting a wheelchair and my husband became my carer. ER visits, pain clinics for massages and radio wave therapy for months until I was finally offered surgery in September. Best decision I ever made and still rehabbing now trying to get my legs working but I am so grateful.

    Did y’all ever take pain meds?
    How did y’all sleep during the time of your injury?
    What did y’all do to deal with the pain prior to your surgery if you didn’t take pain meds?
    Mentally and emotionally how did y’all deal with the pain?

      I was wrecked emotionally during this, which is why I created the podcast/website. To be able to help people who are currently in this situation. You have to tell yourself that this IS a challenge you can overcome. Mindset is huge!
      In order to sleep I became a back sleeper using and used a wedge pillow under my knees. It stopped me from tossing and turning and took the pressure off my nerves.

    Ck have you considered hyper mobility? It’s comorbid with adhd and autism too and often means the wrong muscles holding you together and doing movements,

    Anything you guys did to recover? Did you have bathroom issues?

    • @bedbackandbeyond
      @bedbackandbeyond  6 месяцев назад

      Physical therapy was a huge help for my recovery process, physically and emotionally. I started mine 8 weeks after surgery. Bathroom issues: there was constipation after surgery but that is normal because of the pain meds and anesthesia. Prunes, Wawa Coffee and prescribed stool softener helped with that. Also having railings next to the toilet was a big help getting up and down.

    Hey guys I’m into 3 months of this herniated disc and I’m miserable and have completely forfeited my life. I’m a mom and useless. My biggest fear is that one back surgery leads to more. I’m very afraid of fusion. Very very afraid. Did your surgeons indicate that this surgery makes you susceptible to more surgeries down the road? Thank you

    • @bedbackandbeyond
      @bedbackandbeyond  3 месяца назад

      So sorry you are dealing with this pain. It’s so debilitating. Don’t beat yourself up for “being a mom and being useless.” It is okay to be the one that needs to be taken care of for a time. Especially for something that is totally out of your control. Surgery begets more surgery seems to be a fear talking point. There isn’t data to prove that. A herniated disc can re-herniate more with or without surgery. My surgery was 2019. Even though the recovery wasn’t easy, physically OR emotionally, I would do it again. And now I can’t believe I can say it was almost five years ago. I went from feeling like I would be stuck in pain the rest of my life to wow I can’t believe how fast time has gone by. I Fear is a very normal response to thinking about surgery but I would say drown out any noise of other people’s negative opinions. Feel better soon!

      Thank you for this. So in your extensive experience have you run into anyone that has healed this naturally? Online it says 90% do, but the stories are far and few between. I’m so tired of this and missing out on my life. Not sure if I’ve mentioned this but I have an appt with the neurosurgeon on Thursday. I’m kind of hoping he tells me let’s go. The last physio I saw and the radiologist marked this as a “mild herniation”.

      @@stephanielafferty7078 Yes and there a few episodes of people who did not get surgery. The kettlebell coach, Bash Back pain and a bodybuilder who had one sugery years ago but has opted not to get any others on some new herniations.
