1995 NBC Sports special preview of the 1995-96 NBA season (apparently this aired locally in place of the early NFL games {a brief clip of the ending of that day's NFL on NBC pregame show features a reference to NBC's late games...which the tape this came from didn't have, sadly}). Hosting is NBA Showtime co-host Ahmad Rashad
    STORIES
    1. The 2-time defending NBA champion Houston Rockets and the new-look Rockets' pursuit of a three-peat and a review of their 2nd title in becoming the lowest-seeded NBA Finals champion as well as the first to not have home-court advantage at any point in the playoffs (the Rockets would advance to the Western Conference Semi-Finals before Seattle swept the Rockets)
    2. The team the Rockets defeated in the Finals; the Orlando Magic, sought an opportunity to claim the title they were denied. However, Orlando would be missing center Shaquille O'Neal for the first 22 games due to Shaq breaking his thumb; allowing for Penny Hardaway to become more of a focal point. Orlando made it to the Eastern Conference Finals before being swept by Chicago; with Shaq leaving for the Lakers soon after.
    3. Pat Riley leaving the New York Knicks to join the Miami Heat as both head coach and general manager; resulting in the Heat making two blockbuster trades (sending Glen Rice to Charlotte for Alonzo Mourning just before the opener and dealing Kevin Willis and Bimbo Coles to Golden State for Billy Owens and Tim Hardaway) that would make the Heat a powerhouse for years to come
    4. A tale of two rookies: #1 overall pick forward Joe Smith (with Golden State) and the NBA's equivalent to the NFL's "Mr. Irrelevant" Pistons center Don Reid (Reid hung around for a while but did little in the NBA; Smith had a decent career; though far from what was expected for a #1 overall pick)
    5. The San Antonio Spurs; having finished with the NBA's best record in 1994-95 only to be upset by Houston in the Western Conference Finals, having to deal with questions on when David Robinson would finally lead the Spurs to a championship
    6. Teams on the Rise; focusing on the Los Angeles Lakers (rebounding from a poor 1993-94 season to advance to the Western Conference Semi-Finals) and Dallas Mavericks (whose three J's {Jim Jackson, Jamal Mashburn and rookie Jason Kidd} helped boost the Mavericks to a 36-46 record; their best since 1991-92 {when they went 22-60}). But while the Lakers returned to the playoffs {though bounced by Houston in the first round}; Dallas reverted to 26-56 and would have to wait until 2001 to return to the post-season)
    7. A piece on Bryant Reeves; the 6th overall pick taken by the expansion Vancouver Grizzlies. Reeves' career started on a relatively decent front but back injuries and weight issues derailed "Big Country's" career after 1998
    8. Changes with the New York Knicks; with Pat Riley's departure giving way to the up-tempo offense of Don Nelson. However, the "Nellieball" offense was a poor fit for the personnel which (combined with Nelson talking openly of trading Patrick Ewing to lure Shaq to the Big Apple) led to Nelson's ouster in favor of Jeff Van Gundy during the year. The Knicks still advanced to the Eastern semi-finals before being ousted by Chicago
    9. Free-Agent Signings; among them longtime Cavs point guard Mark Price going to Washington (playing along brother Brent); a trade involving Cleveland and Phoenix with Dan Majerle and John "Hot Rod" Williams; the Bulls trading Will Perdue to San Antonio in exchange for Dennis Rodman; Dana Barros moving to Boston as a free-agent and B.J. Armstrong off to the Bay Area from the Windy City
    10. Misc. Team Notes: Pistons hire former Bulls coach/TNT commentator Doug Collins as head coach; Indiana looks to take the next step after two straight ECF defeats; New York having a healthy Patrick Ewing; Charlotte welcoming back Kendall Gill (though losing Zo soon after); the Bullets losing Chris Webber to 6 weeks with a separated shoulder; Phoenix's Charles Barkley returning from knee surgery; Seattle adding Hersey Hawkins in hopes of shedding a reputation for choking; Utah welcomes back a healthy Fulton Spencer
    11. Michael Jordan; Ahmad's interview with Jordan as he prepared for his first full season back after returning from retirement; carrying Chicago to a then-record 72-10 mark and the Bulls' 4th NBA crown in 6 years.

Would have been the night of Game 7 in the World Series if the Indians had won the previous night.

Great upload. Thanks - do you have the original VHS of this still? I'd love to trade w/ you. I have a lot of NBA on NBC footage from the 1990s in good-to-great quality.

A lot of these are transfers I've been doing from my parent's VHS tapes to DVD, but if you want the DVD I might consider that

@@hrtvfan2870 hey - it's been a while, but would you consider trading for this (without the watermark)? I have all but the opening 8-10 minutes of this on a VHS tape is good-to-great quality. I can send you my copy of this in return for the opening of yours?
