He was the perfect teamate you could ask for. He lifted up and elevated those around him. What is not to like about that. Even in his HOF speech he gave assist to everyone during his speech lol. Dude is the best assister period. I would want him on my team for sure.

The fact that Stockton has 24% more assists than the next closest player tells you the magnitude of his greatness - no other player in history so completely dominates a category like that.
And if you combine his assists and scoring, he was responsible for 51,323 points - 34 points per game - for his career. Big time impact player.

I like John Stockton, he was basically the only guy in the NBA who looked like me/my dad when I was kid so that gave me some small amount hope. Unfortunately he’s 6’0” (usually listed at 6’1” but you know how that goes lol) like my dad was more or less (dad said he was 5’11.75” so he just went with 6’0” lol) but I was/am 5’9” so that kinda excludes me as a white guy nowadays lol Stockton’s son was listed 5’11” so he was a couple shorter than his dad too and never had anywhere near the career his dad had. But yeah, John Stockton also didn’t travel like most NBA players had started to by the end of his career (coaches like him always called us for travels for during moves like Allen Iverson where our hands got even slightly near being under the ball or holding it let alone doing the kind of shit that has now become permitted far beyond that like the gather-step and jump-step and step-back “nonsense” [honestly I’m just being bitter because it’s harder for me to incorporate them into my game nowadays lol that’s why I’d reach my kids to always make sure you take advantage of the rules as they are currently rather than what Ancient coaches say lol I guess black kids without involved dads having played on the playground without much regard for rules ended up benefiting them over us in this specific case oddly enough lmao that said I’ll follow it up by saying my dad isn’t a MAGA maniac like Stockton is so we do have that distinction despite by statement just now that made it sound otherwise lol I don’t even think Stockton is particularly smart despite having been given that label as white players often are, I mean sure for an NBA player maybe he was smart, but overall not lol, rather he was just very hard-working as conservative types sometimes tend to be and also quite tough as they sometimes tend to be, and he was undoubtedly tough and willing to endure a hell of a lot in the name of hard work so I have to grant that to him, he was also very highly conditioned and then unlike most conservative minded types he was very unselfish on the court, however he understood that his route to selfish interests was by being a “selfless” facilitator, which isn’t world class smart but it’s beyond what most average basketball players are able to reason to haha).

The greatest three attributes a star athlete can have is: consistency, poise, and durability. There was no one in the history of basketball who epitomized all of these traits at the level of John Stockton. And he played both ends of the floor. Now, Magic was a physical freak but if you're asking who the best pure PG is that ever lived? It's Stockton. And this idea that because he didn't win a title he isn't as good as Thomas is absurd. Those Pistons teams had way, way, more overall talent than the Jazz. If you replaced Magic with Stockton or Isaiah with Stockton it's not like he wouldn't have won multiple championships . And there's a 0.0% chance Magic or Thomas would have won a title replacing Stock on Utah.

You do need SOME talent, which almost everyone has, but then you need to sharpen that skill into a MASTERPIECE. If you have an ability for something, ANYTHING, and you spend 10,000 hours REALLY going after it, people will stop and watch you no matter WHAT IT IS.

We all loved John Stockton; that is undeniable. But, the question was "Who is the best point guard of all-time?" John Stockton is definitely in the conversation. However, what are you going to do about Oscar Robertson? Assists are great; ask Carl Malone about that. But, Oscar averaged a triple double for his CAREER! That stat is absolutely ridiculous! I will go so far as to say that if there was NO Oscar Robertson then, there would be no NBA, as we know it, today! Oscar average a triple double for one season, and got close to one for a stretch of about five years-- although not his whole career. Oscar is definitely an all time great. Honestly though, no one went out looking for Triple Doubles like that until LeBron came along and the media was trying to figure out a way to argue James was better than Jordan. Couldn't do it with titles, scoring, clutch ability, etc., but Lebron was better at the T-D, so everyone hyped him up and pointed to the Big O. I mean Westbrook did it for THREE seasons, and no one thinks he's close to being the best ever. Not taking anything away from the man, I just think he was missing something when it came to being a perfect PG.

He was driving on a 1-on-1 breakaway and my Dad says, "watch this - he'll score" and Stockton does this really intelligent move to score on the defender. This was one of his great attributes, which you see in the video here. @@mandodelossantos2 so for me Nash is clearly the best player on the team .
Marion and amare get better because of Nash .
Also Nash goes for the big shots almost every time .
Stockton and Malone literally split number 1 option duties .
To be honest if you switched them I wouldn’t say anything but I feel Nash was the clear cut number 1.
