      I disagree. I think he cared ALOT what people thought of him. He just didn't know how to deal with it and acted out. He cried when he was voted DPoY. He cried when he was inducted into the HoF. Being acknowledged, by his peers, for his accomplishments mattered.

      I get the same impression from Rodman that he does care. In a way he seems like an inverted person, kept to himself and had his own circle of friends that he felt comfortable around. There's a lot going on with that guy trying to find an identity. I think when his sister's would dress him up as a girl when he was young sent him on a somewhat twisted trajectory.

    Met/came across him once. (I grew up in Michigan, was a hardcore Pistons/Rodman fan)Was during Detroit era, pre tattoos etc. We were at an amusement park, and at some point I overheard that he was there(also heard vanilla ice was there but never seen that lol) Eventually we see a huge crowd of people walking towards us. With a really tall skinny shirtless guy in the front middle, which was clearly Dennis and everyone was following him. It was like slow motion, he was leading, everyone behind him, a swarm of admirers all trying to talk to him, but he was just walking forward, alone, w a slight smile on his face enjoying his day as if he were by himself. When I saw it was him I'd run to a lamp post close by and leaned against it, I was just in awe, I couldn't believe I was looking at a real life superhero (to me), I stared w an astonished look on my face, and as Dennis moved closer he looked right at me for a few seconds, as if to let me know that he saw me, he saw that I was having a moment, I was seeing a hero. I was too frozen to do anything but stare, but at least I have the memory.

    "Anytime I see Scottie or Michael shoot from the top of the key, I know the ball will come off the rim to the right," he says, referring to teammates Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan. "Watch this." He fast-forwards the tape until Pippen appears on the big-screen TV, shooting a three-pointer from the top of the key. While the shot is in the air, other players wrestle for position under the basket as Rodman slides into an open space to the right of the hoop. The shot caroms hard toward the right corner, just as he anticipated, and he is the only one in position to chase the ball down. He fast-forwards again, first to another Pippen miss from the top of the key and then to a Jordan miss from the same spot. Both times the ball bounces off to the right, and both times Rodman-who has spent hours observing the arc of their shots-is in position for an uncontested rebound. But nonetheless, regardless of era, there are those that do it right and at an elite level regardless of ref era bias.
      I do still believe players like Jordan, Pip, Rodman, and maybe even Stockton, can still do well on defense in today's era. Sure, they wont "impose their will" as much as they did in their era, but that's just how much skilled they are. They'd still be quite effective, although with adjustments to their game and effeciency.
      Similarly, guys like MVP Rose, Curry and Kyrie could still run circles around guys from the old era--of course, with a few adjustments as well to their level of efficiency.

      all the nba players will land up in hospital if they did like coders( yankee is the most notorious). 25 cups of tea and coffee beat that( you will land in emergency).
      but i have more respect for surgeons( heart surgery sometimes happen for 3 days and people dont sleep and docs are known to take the pills to keep you awake. it is banned in other countries and in usa you can get them). though it is not the most brutal field( tech and art are the worst), they are saving lives.
      during pandemic they have burste their balls to no avail( pushing 120 hours and have to worry about their own saftey)
      cocaine keeps you awake for days.
      none of these guys will make it till 100. so they borrowed a decade or half of life to work hard and play hard during their peak.
      these guys are tall and big adn they have more health issues than regular people.

      That's exactly right. Defense is half the game. Mark Aguirre averaged over 25 ppg in Dallas and was one of the top scorers in the league as was Adrian Dantley. Aguirre benched himself in Detroit because he knew how special Rodman was. The guy was well past his prime with the Bulls, in his mid 30's, and was still BY FAR the best rebounder and defender in the league. In many ways he was a smaller Bill Russell. Russ was better at controlling the paint and help defending in the half-court but Rodman could guard all 5 positions at an elite level and also was a dominant transition defender with his speed and motor.

    I always get grief when I put up my 5 players I would pick as my all NBA team. PG - Magic Johnson, SG - Micheal Jordan, SF - Larry Bird, C - Hakeem Olajuwon and PF - Dennis Rodman. Frankly I know some say why not choose another scorer or something but when you look at the defense these guys present why not go with the best rebounder ever and one of the best defensive forwards in the game.

    Rodman didn't get much recognition until he played for the Bulls and Lakers. This is ridiculous! He was just as good in Detroit and San Antonio as he was in Chicago. Was my favorite player as early as 1987.

      top 50? That's tough - I would have to see the list and see who is being left out. For how spectacular and fun to watch Rodman was ... after all these years people are glossing over how SEVERELY limited parts of his game were.

      @@Clubber-Slang ok so don't get me wrong - I LOVE Rodman and think his rebounding and defense were incredible. BUT ... with some caveats. First and foremost - he never for 1 SECOND on the court concerned himself with having to score so of course he would be in position to get more rebounds than other. Honestly - do you think if Shaq, Barkley, Robinson, Malone ... the list goes on and on NEVER considered scoring, only getting in postion for rebounds that they couldn't have had similar rebounding production? Of course they could have.

    • @Clubber-Slang
      @Clubber-Slang 3 года назад +2

      @@brian4180 sure, except to box him out you had to stay glued just as if he was a scorer and when you have teammates that are some of the lost prolific scorers in the game (jordan, isiah thomas, shaq, David robinson) you'd be relegated to an afterthought anyways, see kevin love with LeBron. Rodman was my favorite his entire career, he had multiple double digit scoring seasons before leaning into his persona and that was just off put backs and running the floor and contrary to popular belief could actually shoot a little, multiple games of multiple 3s with the bulls. Obviously it'd be sweet to have 5 versatile threats on both ends, but also imagine if James Harden had Dennis Rodman balancing out that squad?!
