Interesting that you mention having your right hand always on the wheel. I've seen it theorised that right-hand drive cars are slightly better in co-ordination terms for this very reason, assuming the driver is right-handed of course.

It is completely safe to do so. I always say, I would have a RHD car anywhere as they are far cheaper than LHD ones.
Love this video. The main issue with having a steering wheel on the wrong side (the left lol) is overtaking. here in Jamaica, the roads are narrow and twisty. Like its fine in the urban street commutes and such but a country drive in a lhd car is a test of ur patience. Especially being stuck behind a truck
Driving with a British (right hand drive) car in continental Europe, the only problems are overtaking, and tool booths on the wrong side. I never found left hand turns a problem.
LHD converted Toyota Estima here in the Philippines, shift left handed, shifting knob attached onto the right side of steering column but handbrake at the middle between driver and passenger.
Great vid, thanks. What you are demonstrating is what many of us from the UK (drive on the left) do every year when we take our cars across the English Channel to France (drive on the right) and beyond on our holidays. I am assuming that your car is a used vehicle import from somewhere in Asia (e.g.Japan) which would explain why your indicator stalk is on the right of the steering column whereas in the UK all vehicles (Japanese or otherwise) have the indicators on the left of the steering column.
My UK registered RHD car is currently as far as Latvia (driven the whole way), and honestly on such empty roads it's hard to notice any issues driving RHD.
Haha people complained? So people went out of their way, to get in the store to complain about you backing up?😂😂 bish please, you jelly of the JDM lyfe
I live in Germany so which means that we also have right hand traffic like you have in the US. I also would prefer a RHD car like you do because if you're right handed it feels more natural. The actual steering will be performed by your strong right hand (which is your hand for "active abilities") and the manual transmission by your weaker left hand (the "passive ability" one). Yet, and as you partly mentioned, it has two major disadvantages. First left turns because you basically can only guess the oncoming traffic and second overtaking on the left. It's an even bigger problem in Germany because overtaking on the right is prohibited. Despite all that I would still prefer driving like that.
In 2018 I was visiting Eastern Russia. More than 80% of cars there were RHD (due to people buying used cars from Japan), while the driving was still on the right as everywhere else in Russia. I had to rent a car there, and all rental cars were also RHD, so this is how I got to experience driving RHD car in right hand traffic. The car luckily had an automatic transmission, so I didn’t have to worry about switching gears with my left hand. It felt very unusual at first, for the first couple hours I would keep turning on the wipers instead of turn lights, but got used to it pretty quickly. That hardest thing was passing vehicles, especially on the country roads, which usually only have 2 lanes in Russia, so you need to go on the opposite side of the road to pass someone, and it was very hard to do when sitting on the right.
Dude. You have one of the best channels on RUclips. I went to tweedsmuir and spent 26yrs in the lower mainland before moving to Edmonton in 09. Your show makes me feel like I'm home again. If you ever want to come to Alberta, I'll do everything I can to hook you up with great reviews. Keep up all the great work!
"Canada and the USA are two very different countries" Yes of course. Point is that USA is only one country. No a continent. Don't people complain reversing to drive-through in US then? :)
You're merely just moving the goal posts. When people say "America" you damn well know what they're referring to, the only country that matters on said continents....the United States of America, not "dude, weed lmao" Trudeu Cuckada.
You pretty much nailed the Advantages and disadvantages. Some say people installed a camera on the left wing mirror and see everything through the dash screen while turning left.
I have driven all kinds of sports cars in all kinds of weather, but the only one that I ever spun out was one of those MR2's of that style. I didn't wreck it, but the back end came completely around on a highway exit. Luckily, there was nobody behind me. Those cars have made me nervous ever since. But that is a beautiful car you have nevertheless.
I was a mailman for 20 years... drove my LHD vehicle to and from work... but drove my Right Hand Drive (Mail Truck) all day everyday 5 days a week. It’s barely any different...
Overtaking feels very weird. I took my RHD to paris from the UK. Got used to it after a while but felt more at ease driving an LHD rental in Alicante than taking my own vehicle to the continent.
Hello. Nice Video. In my opinion you forgot to tell a very important and at some points very dangerous thing: overtaking. As you sit on the right side of the car in a serpentine it is way too dangerous to overtake, because for you to see what is coming you have to go with nearly half of the car out of your line. - R4X
I drive rhd in the states. When it comes to making left hand turns at intersections, you have to hang back at bit so you can see more of the road. If you drive all the way up to the light, the cars coming towards you or the cars making the left turn on the other side are going to block your view. Hang back, get a broader view of the cars coming towards you and then make your left turn
I'm from Malaysia and here we drive on the left side of the road on the right side of the car. I've always wanted to drive a left hand drive car with a manual. Maybe the same inconvenience you had applies here because some cars albeit very rarely are left hand drives. I've seen a few on the highway in my country, and they are mostly German cars for some reason. With Malaysian license plates.
I had a recent epiphany that for right hand dominant drivers, RHD cars are objectively more "pure." You can drive with your dominant hand on the wheel while shifting, obviously this is a romanticized view that mainly applies to motorsports... I now have a completely different view of RHD spec models... Especially if they are rare compared to the LHD equivalents.
I hate it when people ask stupid questions. Why is he driving backwards? Seems pretty obvious, doesn't it. If you don't want him driving backwards, just mention "Hey I notice your steering wheel is on the right side of the car but we would like you to drive forward through our drive thru". Instead of asking a stupid question which honestly would make me not want to come back.
Another point would be that you will be much slower in the streets because you dont usually see what is behind the parked traffic at the RIGHTSIDE of the road. A child may come out and it will be overall more dangerous because you won't be seeing until the last second what is hiding behind the parked lanes.
I noticed 2 things wrong in this video 1. In the background of 4:46 you can see a white wall but when the next camera angel comes thats not the same building its clearly red and has a big window🤨 2. At 4:48 he backed out to the right but at 4:52 he backed out to the left 🤨
It's definitely a big change driving rhd and lhd! I live in America and drive lhd but when I go back to Singapore to visit my family I have to drive rhd!
Cool I didnt know Singapore was rhd too , I can totally relate though when I go back home to India to visit family . Everytime I want to change gears I end up banging the door panel lol.
Its interesting because most central european brands build their right hand drive cars so that they simply switch the side of the wheel and controls, meaning a right hand drive alfa romeo, for example, will have the indicators to the left of the wheel, even if its an RHD...
My wife and I have been driving LHD cars in UK and RHD in Europe for 20 years, we switch from one to the other daily in either country without noticing anymore.
+roads untraveled I too have issues with left turns. I try and look ahead before I come to a stop so I can see far out if there is no one coming. Drive through windows I go to normal and just read over for the food. People complaining is ridiculous. Just the world we live in god forbid being different.
i drive a RHD in the lefhand world aswell. But in my country like drive troughs are adapted to the RHD cars. they either use a stick with the pin machine on it and they either come outside to hand you the order. Also we have a lot of roundabouts and That is a major benefit cause you can spot cyclists mutch easier. In parking garages the barier stays open longer so that i can just hop out get my ticket walk back to the driver side and enter the garage.
The theory I've heard about this is that older Japanese cars were designed first as left hand drive, since the export market was far bigger than the domestic market. Then, to create the right hand drive version, they literally just flipped the steering column upside down, putting the controls on the opposite sides. No idea if that's the real reason but it would make sense.
the first thing that screwed me up when driving a right hand drive car was the gear pattern I was thinking it would be opposite of how it is in the states but its actually the exact same so it was hard for me to get used to using it by the way I'm left handed but I'm soo used to using my right to shift that it was difficult but possible I just wasn't as silky smooth and fast at shifting as I like to be

I Drive My 91 Nissan Skyline GTR Backward Through drive thru. Never had a Problem . the only main common problem was People taking Alot of Picture. I mean like literally. Snap after snap☺😂
Driving on the left is safer than driving on the right, most humans are right handed and the right eye is stronger than the left eye,and the stronger right hand is always on the steering wheel when changing gear with the weaker left arm.split seconds make a huge difference when driving.
It's stupid that people complain. But I guess it's considered a one way road. I went to taco bell once and the guys in front of me did it and 2 cops drove by pulled in and pulled him over as soon as he left the drive through. I asked why when left and the cop said its technically considered a 1 way road.
I'm from the UK and I love going touring on the continent(mainland Europe) but the down side is we also have RHD cars while Continental Europe is LHD. At my first tour I was generally scared that I would get in an accident but never have to this day. Driving on the motorway is generally easy but in urban ares it can get complicated some times. The people are more careful tho because they see your license plate and because you're from the UK they assume you drive a RHD car which is true. Before having done 4 tours from Bristol to Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam and Cologne I was thinking on buying a cheap but reliable LHD car just for touring on the continent but I found that there was no need. As long as you are some what experienced and careful you will have no problems.
I have to say as an owner of a eunos roadster, the biggest inconvenience is the speedometer. It takes a while to know what the speed limit is converted to kilometers per hour
FYI, the indicator being on the right is because the car is Japanese... In the UK our cars have the Indicator on the left even though they are right hand drive. However my jdm import honda integra dc5 has the indicator on the right...
Statistics shows countries driving on the left side of the road ( right hand drive cars) has lower rate of car accidents and fatality, besides most of the people are right handed which is the dominant hand which makes sense that it should be controlling the steering wheel instead of the gear transmission.
the thing is this is so much safer when driving right handed in a left hand world. Because then when you open your door you're not opening the door towards the traffic.
Wow, sure there are downsides and upsides. But the real pain would be: how do you deal when you have to overtake someone? I mean, your car is RHD and you drive on the right side of the road, so I believe is pretty hard and potentially dangerous to overtake someone, especially if you are alone in the car, since you can't really see anything to ensure that there's no car coming. But man, sure there are such great JDM exclusive cars that are purely glorious, and is totally worth it. I mean, I would totally endure the little downsides when I have such great RHD cars like a Skyline (Not necessarily a GT-R) or a EK9 Type R. Cool video BTW
I live in both left hand (Canada) and right hand (India),,,it's a pain shifting sides all the time,,,it gets more interesting while having manuals in both countries switching sides
I’m right handed, but driving a manual for so long, I do not like using my right hand to steer. Left hand on the wheel right hand on the shifter, even when it’s automatic 😂
Here in Finland the vehicles operated by the postal service have the steering wheel on the "wrong" side. Why? Because postal workers are always getting in and out of the vehicle and it is far safer NOT to do so into moving traffic. Their drivers always get out onto the kerb.
To avoid making left turns sometimes than am lil lazy, I just make a right turn, go really fast to the left to make a u turn, usually I do it really fast cuz I have a skyline r33
Same as driving LHD in a RHD country... I found the rear view mirror the worst as I always looked to the wrong side first. Steering and gears are not so bad as you always have a hand on them. Road position is ok because as long as you are in the correct position on the side that you can see then you will also be in the correct postion on the side you cant see. I stuck it out for almost 2 years, but would not buy another LHD car.
My mate imported a 67 Mustang to Australia (LHD), got pulled over for a random breath test and the cops were at the passenger side wanting to breath test him haha Slighty awkward!!

Haha people complained? So people went out of their way, to get in the store to complain about you backing up?😂😂 bish please, you jelly of the JDM lyfe
Just goes to show how miserable their lives are.
Hella jelly lmao that's when I pull up with the RHD evo 9
My biggest complaint when I drive a rhd car is when you have to overtake. That's a really, I mean , REALLY life or death situation... lol
Same driving a LHD in a RHD country. I've learnt you just gotta give space between yourself and the other car.
MrThecarfreak777 Driving EU LHD car in the UK, just be careful of speeding, because UK uses MPH and the rest of EU including RHD in Ireland uses km/h
R. D. Go 60km/h past speed limit you will get fking 5000€ fine and even more if you are like doctor or surgeon
R. D. One women in finnish company called marimekko got 20k+ fine because he speeded like 20km/h if i remember right
How
Keep up all the great work!
people complaining you driving backwards in a drive-thru MERICA
hes in canada doe
Canada is a part of North America :)
+Raitzi what's your point South America would technically count too since it ends in Merica. Canada and the USA are two very different countries
"Canada and the USA are two very different countries" Yes of course. Point is that USA is only one country. No a continent. Don't people complain reversing to drive-through in US then? :)
You're merely just moving the goal posts. When people say "America" you damn well know what they're referring to, the only country that matters on said continents....the United States of America, not "dude, weed lmao" Trudeu Cuckada.
people complaining about how you get your Coffee lol, more like they are jealous of the car ;)
I think she was making that part up :p
ya its safe to say she was being a bitch.... I'd have just said look where the steering wheel is!
+Roads Untraveled I was thinking the same 😆
@@RoadsUntraveled making up that people complained?
What about making a prank with your RHD like your co-pilot take his hands out of vehicle in the road or something like
Jose Alvaro Llamas Diaz my friend always does that in my rhd Supra, especially when turning
You can install forward camera on top of the mirror with let say 7" display in the corner to see incoming traffic.
the dreaded left hand turn!!!! greetings from calgary!
You pretty much nailed the Advantages and disadvantages. Some say people installed a camera on the left wing mirror and see everything through the dash screen while turning left.
In Russia they put a twin mirron on the left side that lets you see in front and in doesn't have the camera lag.
Try left hand drive in Australia, same issues!
When I drive a LHD it feels like my brain just melted lol.
I was a mailman for 20 years... drove my LHD vehicle to and from work... but drove my Right Hand Drive (Mail Truck) all day everyday 5 days a week.
It’s barely any different...
i'm driving rhd now for a month and i really don't have any problems. The only issue i had is overtaking on a 2 lane road
lost it at the part where you back into a drive thru hahaha
One thing you missed out on. Motorway/Freeway driving and overtaking other vehicles.
Overtake on left.
Overtaking feels very weird. I took my RHD to paris from the UK. Got used to it after a while but felt more at ease driving an LHD rental in Alicante than taking my own vehicle to the continent.
Hi Marcus. you forgot to add how great overtaking is especially when you're behind a truck ;)
Hello. Nice Video. In my opinion you forgot to tell a very important and at some points very dangerous thing: overtaking. As you sit on the right side of the car in a serpentine it is way too dangerous to overtake, because for you to see what is coming you have to go with nearly half of the car out of your line. - R4X
Right side drive in a left hand world is the best! My rhd Scion tC is so much fun to drive on the streets
Instead of asking a stupid question which honestly would make me not want to come back.
lol I'v never gone through backwards, seems like a showoff thing to do great video though.
it's that or a reacher grabber thing , and i'm not sure i would trust those
Another point would be that you will be much slower in the streets because you dont usually see what is behind the parked traffic at the RIGHTSIDE of the road. A child may come out and it will be overall more dangerous because you won't be seeing until the last second what is hiding behind the parked lanes.
I noticed 2 things wrong in this video
1. In the background of 4:46 you can see a white wall but when the next camera angel comes thats not the same building its clearly red and has a big window🤨
2. At 4:48 he backed out to the right but at 4:52 he backed out to the left 🤨
That drive through 🤣 never took consideration into this situation from a right hand vehicle. Halarious!
Yea I can totally agree to hitting the door panel on the right too!
Singpore and India are both ex British colonies mate.
Marcus is much better then studying
Is that you BOB billy?
+Dank Hill Dank holy shit its you
Yeah its me
3:18
I can't imagine not using your left hand to shift. It sounds bizzare.
I can't imagine the opposite
Sounds fun.
Welcome to McDonald's how may I take your order? I will have a large order of complaining with a side of complaining to go please.
ill habe a burger with no toppings... just a complain burger
2:43 hey am i good?
"yeah sure"
*CRASH*
Its interesting because most central european brands build their right hand drive cars so that they simply switch the side of the wheel and controls, meaning a right hand drive alfa romeo, for example, will have the indicators to the left of the wheel, even if its an RHD...
In Malaysia, I just change seat when in drive thru. haha
maling
This channel deserves 7 million + subs
My wife and I have been driving LHD cars in UK and RHD in Europe for 20 years, we switch from one to the other daily in either country without noticing anymore.
+roads untraveled
I too have issues with left turns.
Not all right hand drive cars have the signal on the right hand side of the steering wheel
Yeah it's the region of manufacturer.
ThaneDukeHeineken yep in the uk most cars have the signal on the left but as my car was built in japan like this mr2 it has the signal on the right
The theory I've heard about this is that older Japanese cars were designed first as left hand drive, since the export market was far bigger than the domestic market. Then, to create the right hand drive version, they literally just flipped the steering column upside down, putting the controls on the opposite sides. No idea if that's the real reason but it would make sense.
I used to drive a small honda van that had the indicators/turn signal switch on the right...that was uk spec right hand drive
the first thing that screwed me up when driving a right hand drive car was the gear pattern I was thinking it would be opposite of how it is in the states but its actually the exact same so it was hard for me to get used to using it by the way I'm left handed but I'm soo used to using my right to shift that it was difficult but possible I just wasn't as silky smooth and fast at shifting as I like to be
showed footage backing out of Mcdonalds while clearly ordering a coffee at Tim hortons haha
It’s only Japan that swap the wiper sticks around. They’re the same as LHD cars in the UK and such
yeah i can approve, driving a uk car and tried driving in japan with a rental
Awesome video Marcus. Quick question ; might be too personal but do you guys mind sharing which insurance marcus is insured with?? We can even do this by email if you guys feel more comfortable. Thank you so much!
Just to add though, our cars in the UK have the indicators on the left in most cases.
I'm doing the same thing as yourself, with just a slight difference. I'm driving LHD on the left-hand side of the road. I live in England.
Saw a guy driving a 70s Cadillac boat in Australia. No conversation done.
Talk about balls
I have to say as an owner of a eunos roadster, the biggest inconvenience is the speedometer. It takes a while to know what the speed limit is converted to kilometers per hour
Eunos roadster, I think thats an MX5, get a set of clocks from a UK model, it'll have both scales for MPH and KM/H (may be shown KPH)
FYI, the indicator being on the right is because the car is Japanese... In the UK our cars have the Indicator on the left even though they are right hand drive. However my jdm import honda integra dc5 has the indicator on the right...
Statistics shows countries driving on the left side of the road ( right hand drive cars) has lower rate of car accidents and fatality, besides most of the people are right handed which is the dominant hand which makes sense that it should be controlling the steering wheel instead of the gear transmission.
lol yeah, there's an S15 in my family and I always turn the wipers on instead of signaling.
Small work Markus! Lol found out you know my buddy Ryan K. With the r32 skyline gtr! Ryan told me to hurry up and get a car and get you to film it lol
Imagine how eeeeasy right turns are
this channel puts a smile on my face, everyday
the thing is this is so much safer when driving right handed in a left hand world.
I drive postal mail truck in Michigan. There are literally no inconveniences driving right hand, at all! The mirrors do create blind spots though.
I live in both left hand (Canada) and right hand (India),,,it's a pain shifting sides all the time,,,it gets more interesting while having manuals in both countries switching sides
In our country right hand drive is the norm so I'd love to drive it :-)
Awesome vids man, keep'em coming! Oh and someone was complaining about you going through the drive through backwards? Really... who freaking cares.
When I was 14 I shifted for my dad with my left hand, so both hands feel natural when shifting. Lucky me!
without a doubt, kid's a boss. Salute
The signals is a choice of manufacturer, Every car I've drove has it on the right and I've only ever been in a rhd car
From France, and like your videos !
I wouldn’t be surprised if someone in the diaspora here in YVR got an Alphard or Odyssey!
My mate imported a 67 Mustang to Australia (LHD), got pulled over for a random breath test and the cops were at the passenger side wanting to breath test him haha Slighty awkward!!
I ALWAYS WONDERED about what you just described from 2:00-2:39, thanks for that 👌🏼
