How to unlock, change, or reset almost any Apple Mac laptop, or desktop.

This works on almost all apple computers that are locked out through other accounts. You can delete the account or change the password but you have to force a new admin account to do so.
mount -uw / Return Button
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone Return Button
shutdown -h now Return Button
Power Button
I have not tried this on tablets or anything with i os.

Hi there I have followed your instructions, but once I get past the setting location. It refers back to it will 'automatically sign in as Emmauel College' which is who I assume owned it before I purchased it, then the next screen goes to log in details again which I dont know? Can you help?
What do you do when it says:
Root device is mounted read-only
Enabling and disabling services is not supported in single-user mode,
and disabled services will not be respected when loading services
while in single-user mode.
To mount the root device as read-write:
$ /s in/fsck - fy
$ /s in/mount -uw /
To boot the system:
$ exit
localhost:/ root#

Thank You - The iMac was locked and the directions provided allowed access.
Maybe you can help me. I erased the iMac hard drive thinking I could remount it. As a result, I am getting this message when I follow your steps:

Would this work for a MacPro I sold to someone is is unable to erase the mac because it is asking for my password? I had removed the password but it seems like it is still asking for one so I suppose it is asking for my AppleID password. I would hate to have to go to that person's place to go trough the setup and enter my password.

I tried this after the 3rd line it’s says no data found so it will restart but it won’t do anything

TIP: My machine didn't have a chime. I hit command S as soon as I heard the hard drive stop and before the apple logo came on. then, followed instructions.
So this won’t erase any information? My dad passed away and we are trying to get into his computer and actually need the information to the intact for his mom.

there is no root option there is a bash-3.2# and once rebooted goes to guest sign in

Good god thank you sooo much! My fiancé some how locked us out of my MacBook and my mom just recently passed away.. needless to say I was devastated thinking I had lost all my pictures with her, but you video helped me to get back in.
