No so basically the staff sergeant led his team to die in Afghanistan because he had to retreat and he didn't want to leave them again this time(from what i remember)

This SSgt is a prime example of these military men and women, leading brave souls that died under their charge. How they cried themselves drinking at night thinking how they could of done things differently to bring them all home alive and why it wasn't them instead. As a Marine I really couldn't imagine holding that burden.
I just wished that Marines and all other military/army people actually protected and fought for us, the real people, against the ones who subjugate and control us (governments and the ones behind them), rather than go fight their wars for them. THAT would be even more brave.

Let's give credit where it's due, the real MVP of this scene was Hector's dad. The selfless civilian who fearlessly faced death and gave his life to protect his protectors. In a moment of complete chaos and destruction, where death was practically guaranteed with the slightest mistake, his instinct was to pick up a rifle in the middle of it all and fight back. To take matters into his own hands and help get the job done. A civilian, someone who was not equipped with the same mental and physical skillset as trained/ seasoned military personnel. He personified the very spirit of courage, sacrifice, and selflessness. Hector's father, through this act showed his true colors, those of a fighter. As a relatively new soldier in the U.S. Army (11 months), I lend my admiration to his presence in this story. May my courage be no weaker than his should I ever come face to face with combat.

Let’s just appreciate how selfless Lieutenant Martinez is. He has a pregnant wife waiting for him at home and has a man refusing to leave him behind but still stays behind to sacrifice himself so he can ensure the safety of his subordinates and the civilians.
It hurts me every time watching this. The way the soldiers think about Nantz (Staff Sergeant). They didn’t know that the Lieutenant sacrificed himself instead they thought he left him behind to die like his men during his last tour.
I don’t see how they could think that. An explosion happen, there’s no reason to think the aliens blew themselves up. I hated when Lockett accused him of leaving Martinez behind

The guy very obviously gave a crap about everyone and right before this highway scene literally saved everyone's lives by risking his own to 1v1 a friggin' aircraft with a hand grenade and a gas station. The fact that they were holding on to some petty grudge about a prior deployment to Afghanistan while in the middle of an alien invasion in their own homeland was one of the weakest parts of the story, IMO.

One got killed in the initial contact on the bus, one got leveled by a car, one got hit the heart making sure the civilians get down the rope, one died going down the rope, one died saving the airman on top of the truck, one died sacraficing himself, a tank crew of 4 got blow up by air support and one got killed outside of it. All in this engagement alone. The same amount of aliens died in this scene.
We need a sequel or the same first wave of the invasion but from the POV of another country. They show on the TV in the house that London got attacked. I think it would be a good idea to show off the British Army in action for once
