This movie showcased decentralized command, small unit tactics, and close quarters combat really well but my hands down favorite thing about this movie is how filthy their uniforms and gear quickly become. Hollywood makes you think that people can go through hours and days of combat but come out looking clean shaven with inspection ready uniforms.
Precisely why I think governments spending money on camo for urban environments is a waist of money. In a matter of minutes you'll be covered in dust that'll camouflage you better then the man made pattern will! I think just a plain grey uniform for urban environments is more then enough if you factor in the dust that covers the battle field......of course the colour will change depending on the area the urban area is in, obviously grey won't work so well in the Middle East!
This my best war movie apart from saving Private Ryan, it really captured the true essence of war, it made me think back to the days I was serving and lost comrades, but truth is that this is movie, guys it's not as easy as it looks in this movie, even though it is one of the few that capture how it can be, it is more gruelling in the front lines and things could end in a matter of a minute with a good strike from heavy weapons from either side, we were taught to always try to take out the heavy weapons first, but I didn't see that in this movie, but as I said it's Hollywood not real life, so please if you have never been in the trenches, don't wish for it, it's hell their not like what you see in this movie, this movie is just like 30% of the real shit that happens on the front line, no gory details, still waiting for the day Hollywood would deliver a war movie with all the gory details of war so people can actually feel what we experience. And maybe all the trigger happy people would think before raising a gun at someone else, ( talking about terrorist and co ) and leaders of nations would not be so eager to start a war. May God continue to protect those still fighting to defend our lands, and may the soul of our lost brothers and sisters find peace in the Bossom of the Lord.

It may be fiction but this movie points out something that many a foreign governments and militaries have said is why they fear US Military Units. Even when detached from chain of command small platoons or even rifle teams will improvise and still cause havoc. We say this with the 101st and 82nd Airborne during the lead up to Normandy. None of the units were dropped in the right place or often together, but small ad-hoc units formed and if they could not carry out their main objective they would begin to sabotage other things or just generally harass the enemy. It worked so well the handful of times it has had to happen in battle that the enemy forces often freak out and think the opposing force is larger than it really is.
I’ve watched this movie a dozen time at least. Now the aliens would be walking around getting blown up by hundreds of drones… they’d return back to their planet with PTSD, waking up screaming from the sound of drones flying around. This movie did the Marines proud.
There are scenes that definitely hit you right in the feels. For me, this is one of them. I still would have at least grabbed a sandwich and something to drink before heading back out. I can eat on the trip back.

The United States Military has a history of taking experience combat veterans out of actions and using them to train new recruits. This happened a lot in WW2 especially with pilots. I wonder if in real life if they would pull Nantz and his team out of combat to tell other Marines how to kill the Aliens, since they were the only marines to do it. Give Nantz a battlefield commission and make him an officer.
It sucks that this movie never got a sequel. It would’ve been interesting to see the aliens get defeated or if they had another trick up their sleeves.
"We already had breakfast..." I know it's a movie, but their are Marines and Soldiers that know. And the look on the officer's face is priceless. Fuck, these people report to me? Humbled. Nothing against officers, but when you lead men / women into battle and they don't quit? As a leader it rips your heart out.

Agreed. But a lot of their military personnel are dead and everyone needs to respond. They already got all the information they need of the aliens. Most alien invasion movies either show a super advanced alien species that walk all over the humans for some weird reason, or they show some alien species that makes no sense how they formed a civilization much less developed technology to travel light years through space. I think this version is much more realistic when you consider whats the one thing thats going to drive a civilization to travel to another planet. That would be your planet failing. So you vuild a bunch of ships and pile in thousands upon thousands of people and resources. Then a few hundred years later you arrive and find the planet is perfect for you but it's already inhabited. You're in rough shape. Your ships are breaking down. Your supplies are low. Some ships probably didnt make it. You dont have the ability to go anywhere else. You either fight to colonize the planet so your people can live. Or you go extinct. I just hate these kinds of movies, that ignore the impossibility of an Alien invasion. The other fact ignored, that a species that has gone to the stars would wipe the floor with us. It wouldn't even be close. Try the Covenant from I think HALO, but you don't have a space fleet nor do you have the Spartans.

I always disliked the ending of this movie, it's stupid of them to go back to the frontlines after continuously fighting all night. They are hungry, tired, and probably experiencing severe mental fatigue. They would be more valuable to the effort as rested and fed soldiers.
For sure, but I also understand the mindset. They should rest, but knowing the others are going out to fight while they rest isn't "acceptable" to them. They'd rather be by their side.
Definitely an honour situation. There is no doubt that some of those soldiers that are dropping in have also been commiting to a fighting retreat during the entire night. So despite their massive accomplishment, it will never feel right for the sergeant to just sit back and let his fellow marines who are like brothers walk into a firefight with the remanants of the enemy force. So when he begins to get ready, his whole squad are encouraged by his actions and get their 2nd wind and arm up. Thats also why that base commander asks them what the hell their doing because he thinks they should be resting but he realizes he couldn't stop them even if he wanted to. Also notice how earlier he mentions "were mustering whatever troops we can get and going back in." That means theirs no real full strength fresh battalions and its just a collection of whoevers left.
Realistically the statement the base commander made says that there is no reinforced national guard left and that most of their infrastructure for transporting troops has been wiped out. Therefore every soldier is needed for the fight. Also they are the only unit to survive a head on days long engagement with the enemy so they know that any of the guys going I. Might not know about the weak spot of the enemy infantry or how to suppress enemy tactics. The Staff Sgt knows that his squad would be more valuable on the ground in the mud helping the others figure it out than letting potentional noobs fight them by themselves. It’s also a Honor thing. Doesn’t sit right with him to start with.
@@micahdeck9553 It also just makes more sense to send your battle-hardened troops back in to (at least) establish a foothold inside the city. Get a FOB up and running, establish an MSR, and you have an in-situ site to deploy troops to and from, instead of helicoptering every squad around.

The marines still use the Huey but it’s called the venom now
@@edl617 honestly I just wanted to get that joke about the Ospreys off.
Couldn’t we let the aliens have LA…possible upgrade?
XENOS GET NOTHING NOT A DAMN INCH
2:28 So that's where all the unlimited ammo is stored.
Wouldn’t them going back out in that tired fatigued state be suicide…
I wonder if the alien NCOs have to square away their officers too
I just hate these kinds of movies, that ignore the impossibility of an Alien invasion. The other fact ignored, that a species that has gone to the stars would wipe the floor with us. It wouldn't even be close. Try the Covenant from I think HALO, but you don't have a space fleet nor do you have the Spartans.
That's why it's just a movie. Relax.
Marines do not fuck around.
Something like this may be in our future.
bad editing he uses a pistol then it shows him with a rifle switching to a pistol
"Lets take back los Angeles" ...... why?. let them have it. They won't even need id to vote.
Fun movie with terrible dialogue.
If Aliens with the technology to travel literal light years between solar systems invaded Earth we wouldn't stand a chance
Ok. Im a navy brat AND an Army vet. Now am I going to entierly claim this the way thiings will go down...no. this is a Hollywood fant😂 but. Ami willing to say i would not stand becide them absolutely not. I'd stand beside them any day. HOH-RAH 25. As an Army vet...kick ass 25
Also notice how earlier he mentions "were mustering whatever troops we can get and going back in."
That means theirs no real full strength fresh battalions and its just a collection of whoevers left.
It's a f****** Alien Invasion movie
@@micahdeck9553 It also just makes more sense to send your battle-hardened troops back in to (at least) establish a foothold inside the city.
Get a FOB up and running, establish an MSR, and you have an in-situ site to deploy troops to and from, instead of helicoptering every squad around.
Humans Fuck Yeah
I’d let them have LA. Crap.
