*I have both the mini 5 and iPad Pro 11"* and both run Procreate perfectly. The mini 5 is my portable drawing pad for traveling, and my Pro for home because that's my most precious and most expensive haha! I agree with Geneviève 100% on the Apple pencil 2nd Generation because one, easier to charge by connecting to magnetic on top. Plus, the matte finish for non-slippery surface to have better grip on the pencil. The more you invest in a hobby or job you love, the MORE you'll love it. Always invest in yourself as an artist, to create art you know will make others smile. The tools will make your life easier and more fun. Imagine cooking with plastic toys and using the microwave as your only source of heat. Pretty rough and you'll soon get tired and hate cooking. Same principle applies to any craft. Love yourself and invest in your skills 👍🏼
I have both 1st and 2nd Gen pencils and I love love love my second generation Apple pencil. There is no substitute for it. If your broke like me because *I am not RUclips rich* yet, something like a pencil can be bought on eBay. You will get same performance and just buy tips new from the Apple website. Now the iPad, buy new and save money and get biggest screen and highest RAM you can afford. I sold my kidney but it was worth it 😷 Hope my personal experience helps anyone deciding to buy a good top quality pad and pencil because tools do matter! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I use my iPad often but because of my design style and the fact that I mainly draw on the go, I went for the 11" and it works perfectly for how I draw, not too big but still big enough for me to work on. I use it for several things, most of which my apps take up tons of space over time so I have the 256 gb, and also have yet to even use half of it in my 2 and a half years of having it, so overall, very nice.

Genevieve mentions this at around 3:00, but it seems that most comments are mostly focussed on 'will Procreate run on my iPad' and screen size. Depending what you want to use Procreate for, pay attention to how much RAM your iPad has (as she mentions in her terrific vid). I create book covers for KDP. A 6 X 9 paperback template gives a canvas around 13" by 9". That canvas size worked a treat on my iPad Pro 12.9 Gen 1 - 4GB RAM - with multiple layers available. My iPad Gen 9 only has 3GB RAM and limits me to 2 layers. Useless for what I am trying to do. Sure, the iPad RUNS Procreate - but that isn't necessarily the full story. Thanks for the great video Genevieve.

Same, love my air 4. Think the air 4/2020 is a really good alternative if you don’t want to spend the 500$ more for a pro. Have seen multiple comparisons between the pro and air 4 and most professionals said there wasn’t much of a difference using them next to each other. On paper, the pro has some better specs, but in use you don’t really notice the difference for most people.

Hi love! Hope you could see this message and kindly give me some advice~ :<
Apparently I'm a fulltime artist and I got the iPad 12.9 for portability. (I listened to the internet since bigger screen is better for artists)
I intended to draw while laying my back against the wall, watch art courses or movies while in bed.
However, when I got it IRL. The device is TOO HUGE lol.
    1. Do you feel difficult when holding it? My neck hurts when I'm sitting, using my hands to scroll and the iPad being on my thighs.
    2. Because it's big. Some people say you have to sit to draw. I already have a Wacom Cintiq so I don't want to sit while drawing. (It hurts my back after some time.) I thought having iPad I could draw in bed, more comfortably.
What is your favorite position to draw with it?
    3. Do you scroll your iPad in bed? I feel it's too big when it's in front of me, laying on my chest. But holding it up is hard, because it's a bit heavy. Do you have a solution for this?
Thank you very much and I love your videos!!

I have the ipad pro 2018 11" too and I am hitting the storage limit an regularly Hit the limit for maximum layers in my 3000 x 3000 canvas. Even through the m1 Chip might be overkill but I want the RAM. My storage is currently 64gb and after almost 4 years it is almost full with a Few apps, a lot of procreate files + Videos, images, drawing reference images and the game Genshin Impact which takes like 20gb. Luckily the smallest storage Option is 128gb
I am Mostly going to buy the 12.9" Model but I need to try them in store a Few Times because i got used to the smaller Version. I feyr it might be too big or not as comfortable to Use in bed

Thank you so much for this video!!! I have a 24 iMac 1TB and I can fill it up fast using Final Cut and Photoshop- however I just got the iPad Pro 256gb specifically to use procreate and was wondering if I made a mistake by not getting the 1TB.
Great info, saved me from driving back to the mall where it’s Xmas bananas 🍌 right now !!! Lol
    Thanks 👍

Hi Genevieve, I come here extra to watch this video about ipad, thought maybe I will get some information i am looking for and to ask you something about your ipad. First, do you using the paperlike kind of screen protector? If yes, how often you change your apple pencil's tip? Or you have better solution for it, as you draw a lot. And second, has you ipad also the screen light problem, I mean it goes dim and bright itself while using the ipad, especially procreate. From your tutorials I can't see or barely notice that. Thank you for your time and attention. :D

    • @GenevievesDesignStudio
      @GenevievesDesignStudio  3 года назад +1

I do use a screen protector (you can find the link to all my drawing tools in the video description) 😊
Honestly, I only had to change the tip of my pencil once in like 3 years haha
As for the screen brightness, you might be able to fix that by going in your iPad's settings > Display & Brightness > deactivating 'True Tone'

Hi Genevieve! I have always noticed that my ipad pro (the newest model) gets hot while working on procreate. I usually begin feeling discomfort on my hands, and need to keep rotating it so the hot spot will be up and not down where my hand is drawing. I would like to know if this is common? I am brand new on digital drawing, so I have no idea! Thank you in advance and I love your videos!!!!!!

Oh wow, that's really quite strange... never happened to me, even though I draw pretty much all day long. Might be a hardware issue, I would reach out to Apple and maybe visit the Genius Bar (if one is available near you!) 🤍

Hi ! Thank you for this video. I'm currently on 6th gen ipad (2018) and looking to upgrade to a pro model but those prices are throwing me off... my main problem with the one I have is the resolution and layers on procreate. If I configure my canvas to have enough layers, then my resolution is really bad, and my lines pixel very quick when I zoom in to work on details (I do interior design sketches). I had heard that the problem would be resolved by upgrading to at least 1To memory but I don't think I can afford over 256Go for a 12'9 pro. What do you think ? Any idea on how many layers that could give me in 300 dpi files ? Thank you !
