I got the generic iPad and its perfect for me. originally bought a pro but I realised that I much prefer the smaller tablets especially when I am out it public
I got the iPad Pro 12.9" 2021 with the Apple Pencil! And I have been using Procreate in it for the past few weeks! I! Love it! I also got a Samsung T7 external SSD with 1tb of storage to serve as a back up storage. It connects well with my iPad!
I use my iPad often but because of my design style and the fact that I mainly draw on the go, I went for the 11" and it works perfectly for how I draw, not too big but still big enough for me to work on. I use it for several things, most of which my apps take up tons of space over time so I have the 256 gb, and also have yet to even use half of it in my 2 and a half years of having it, so overall, very nice.
Same, love my air 4. Think the air 4/2020 is a really good alternative if you don’t want to spend the 500$ more for a pro. Have seen multiple comparisons between the pro and air 4 and most professionals said there wasn’t much of a difference using them next to each other. On paper, the pro has some better specs, but in use you don’t really notice the difference for most people.
@@nguyetanh9434 I got the 256gb mainly because I didn't want to worry about it the storage space. It's probably way more than I will ever need though. I would buy what you can afford. Remember you can always use cloud services to back things up if you can only afford the 64 gb.
you gave me the answer I was looking for about the storage, I just found your channel but I’m already in love with your art style! How adorable 😭💓 plus you have a gorgeous hair!
Genevieve mentions this at around 3:00, but it seems that most comments are mostly focussed on 'will Procreate run on my iPad' and screen size. Depending what you want to use Procreate for, pay attention to how much RAM your iPad has (as she mentions in her terrific vid). I create book covers for KDP. A 6 X 9 paperback template gives a canvas around 13" by 9". That canvas size worked a treat on my iPad Pro 12.9 Gen 1 - 4GB RAM - with multiple layers available. My iPad Gen 9 only has 3GB RAM and limits me to 2 layers. Useless for what I am trying to do. Sure, the iPad RUNS Procreate - but that isn't necessarily the full story. Thanks for the great video Genevieve.
thank you sooo much 🙏 …. this video is exactly what I needed after watching lots and lots of review videos of IPads and still not being able to know which one to choose 🤓… NOW I have made my decision and will buy my IPad Pro 💕

Nice advice. I would just add that: the pencil 2 is almost perfect; the pencil 1 however is far from perfection; and keep in mind that the pencil 2 is only compatible with iPad Pro, iPad Air 3rd gen and plus, and the iPad mini (but that one is not the best model, except if you are really into small model to draw in the street). On any normal iPad, you'll have to draw with the first ipencil.
I have the iPad Air 5th generation and have used the Apple Pencil 2nd gen on it and I have to say it’s amazing. The Apple Pencil 1, which I have also used, is horrendous
Hi love! Hope you could see this message and kindly give me some advice~ :< Apparently I'm a fulltime artist and I got the iPad 12.9 for portability. (I listened to the internet since bigger screen is better for artists) I intended to draw while laying my back against the wall, watch art courses or movies while in bed. However, when I got it IRL. The device is TOO HUGE lol. 1. Do you feel difficult when holding it? My neck hurts when I'm sitting, using my hands to scroll and the iPad being on my thighs. 2. Because it's big. I’m glad to know that procreate files aren’t big. I’ll be using my iPad Air 5 exclusively for drawing so I think 64GB is fine. Plus I’ll be using an SSD to backup my files. The 256GB model’s price is almost the same as the iPad pro 128GB model and is way out of my budget 🥲

Hey, I was wondering what would be better for me. I'm a beginner apprentice and I want to get either a iPad 9th gen or an iPad pro 4th gen. Which would be better for me to start off?
So it is still ok to buy a 2018 model? I was recommended to get 2020 instead, I really want the 12,9 size but it is expensive for me right now while the 2018 is more budget friendly
Excellent, you answered all of my questions. It's so hard to know which one to go for, as I'm not an 'upgrade' type of person - I usually keep things until they can't be repaired/fixed :). So, I don't want to buy a smaller version and then have to pay out for the larger screen (Pro) at a later date..I mainly want it for Procreate :). Do you know if there's much between the two types of pencils please? x
my ipad pro 2018 only has procreate because its all that the space can handle with the amount of art I have in my procreate app. I legit have almost all the 64 gb full of just the art alone. I've deleted all the apps even so I think having a larger storage is def important.
Hi, guys! Can I ask you something? I'm looking forward for this new ipad pro 2021 and I want to use it for procreate, adobe illustrator and adobe photoshop. Basically for editing photos, graphic design and illustrations. So... my question is do 128GB are enough for me, or should I go with 256GB? Just to mention, I mainly work on my computer but especially for drawing I want to use the iPad. Please help me... and thank you! 😊🙏
I'd say, 128GBs are enough if you won't store anything else except your art, and are okay with backing it up somewhere and eventually clearing a bit of space like once or twice a year. If you want to keep years worth of art all on your ipad, 256GB might be a better option.
I have the mini4 which I use for when not drawing but want a bigger screen than the iPhone. I have the 2017 iPad Pro which I plan to upgrade to the 12.9 just for the bigger drawing area in Procreate. When people question the price of the Apple Pencil I tell them the price is worth the price of the iPad. The pencil makes all the difference and totally worth the expense.
I still have the 12.9" gen 1 pro from 2015 with gen 1 pencil, haha..I want a new pro, but I dont have the money..I can run procreate, but it chugs sometimes, depending on what brush size I am using, and the number of layers I use..Plus, the newest OS takes up 3/4 of my storage space alone! (I could only afford the 32gb storage model when I got it in 2015)..
Anybody please help me decide iPad 9 with 256gb or iPad Air 4th gen with 64gb? I'm gonna use it for procreate ( bcs i'm a beginner artist ), note taking, edit short videos, and maybe play genshin. Plus, i'm probably gonna be stuck with it for the next 5 years.
Thank you so much for this video!!! I have a 24 iMac 1TB and I can fill it up fast using Final Cut and Photoshop- however I just got the iPad Pro 256gb specifically to use procreate and was wondering if I made a mistake by not getting the 1TB. Great info, saved me from driving back to the mall where it’s Xmas bananas 🍌 right now !!! Lol Thanks 👍 I Subscribed too 💯 happy holidays
I watch your channel and I like your art work even I don't have enough money to buy this iPad but i like to learn digital art. By the way you are beautiful. From Morocco🌹
Hi, I need an I pad with a good cam plus a one in whick i can draw too, can you give the review on that along with it's pencil...which one is the best?
Hi Genevieve, I come here extra to watch this video about ipad, thought maybe I will get some information i am looking for and to ask you something about your ipad. First, do you using the paperlike kind of screen protector? If yes, how often you change your apple pencil's tip? Or you have better solution for it, as you draw a lot. And second, has you ipad also the screen light problem, I mean it goes dim and bright itself while using the ipad, especially procreate. From your tutorials I can't see or barely notice that. Thank you for your time and attention. :D
I do use a screen protector (you can find the link to all my drawing tools in the video description) 😊 Honestly, I only had to change the tip of my pencil once in like 3 years haha As for the screen brightness, you might be able to fix that by going in your iPad's settings > Display & Brightness > deactivating 'True Tone'
Can anyone still recommend buying the iPad Pro 2018 in 2022? I would buy it refurbished w/ a new battery but aren't four years a lot for the processor and stuff? And is its 11 inches screen big enough for drawing? :)
I still use the 2018 for Procreate and I'm super happy with it 😊 The new ones are a for sure faster/perform better for layers and stuff but I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker for me, at least not for the use I make of the iPad. I think 11 is ok, but 12.9 is definitely more comfortable.
I have the ipad pro 2018 11" too and I am hitting the storage limit an regularly Hit the limit for maximum layers in my 3000 x 3000 canvas. Even through the m1 Chip might be overkill but I want the RAM. My storage is currently 64gb and after almost 4 years it is almost full with a Few apps, a lot of procreate files + Videos, images, drawing reference images and the game Genshin Impact which takes like 20gb. Luckily the smallest storage Option is 128gb I am Mostly going to buy the 12.9" Model but I need to try them in store a Few Times because i got used to the smaller Version. I feyr it might be too big or not as comfortable to Use in bed
Ngl i draw fine w/ my finger but thx for the recommendations bcuz 1 was lost, I thought is was like an obligation to get the biggest to draw but I guess not,yay my savings won't completely lost😅
As a graphic designer and illustrator I still don't know wich one to buy. The ipad air 5 256 gb or the ipad pro 2021 256 gb ? Any recommandation ? It will be to draw and do my illustrations/comics book also
Hi genevie, thank you for explaining so clearly in a simple way. I have got a question regarding using screen protector. will it make a difference for drawing sensitivity by using the iPad screen protector? Any recommendations for screen protector.
Hi Genevieve! I have always noticed that my ipad pro (the newest model) gets hot while working on procreate. I usually begin feeling discomfort on my hands, and need to keep rotating it so the hot spot will be up and not down where my hand is drawing. I would like to know if this is common? I am brand new on digital drawing, so I have no idea! Thank you in advance and I love your videos!!!!!!
Oh wow, that's really quite strange... never happened to me, even though I draw pretty much all day long. Might be a hardware issue, I would reach out to Apple and maybe visit the Genius Bar (if one is available near you!) 🤍

So the iPad Air is ok for procreate? I don’t have to buy the pro Xxx
Thank you, Genevieve ❤
I have the mini4 which I use for when not drawing but want a bigger screen than the iPhone. I have the 2017 iPad Pro which I plan to upgrade to the 12.9 just for the bigger drawing area in Procreate. When people question the price of the Apple Pencil I tell them the price is worth the price of the iPad. The pencil makes all the difference and totally worth the expense.
Hey!! New sub right here! I really love your art and tutorials, such an inspiration. Thanks for doing what you do
Thank you so much for the kind words, Juan! 🤍 Welcome on the channel 🥳
I was interested in this subject anyway but your first 8 seconds made me sub
Yay! Welcome on the channel 🥳🤍
Thank you so much for sharing this 🥺 i really need this information so much and watch your videos! Thank you 🥰
Is the iPad mini 4 good for procreate??
Watching this on the IPad 2 haha saving up for a new one
Think I’m in love ..
I’m using the original iPad 6gen and it’s working just fine
Me too. There are ways to get around the layers limitation by duplicating your file and flattening the finished layers on the second file.
I have an ipad air 4 and i use procreate and i love it
How much storage?
@@BlackOreoCookie 256 gb
I am getting a iPad Air 4 and will be drawing
Thank you so much for this video!!! I have a 24 iMac 1TB and I can fill it up fast using Final Cut and Photoshop- however I just got the iPad Pro 256gb specifically to use procreate and was wondering if I made a mistake by not getting the 1TB.
Great info, saved me from driving back to the mall where it’s Xmas bananas 🍌 right now !!! Lol
Thanks 👍
I Subscribed too 💯 happy holidays
Photoshop files are like 30992835937465837465 times larger than Procreate ones! So glad you didn't have to go back to the mall 😅
@@GenevievesDesignStudio lmao, very thankful !! Happy Holidays
I keep thinking I need a bigger screen, right now I have the IPAD Pro 11 inch, 3rd generation. Can anyone tell me how it is with a bigger screen?
Hmm idk because I have an IPad 8 and idk if I should buy procreate
super super helpful video!! it has helped me to save some money after watching this video! :)))
I watch your channel and I like your art work even I don't have enough money to buy this iPad but i like to learn digital art. By the way you are beautiful.
From Morocco🌹
Thank you! Lovely video
is the new ipad air worth the money for drawing or is ipad 9th just as good? it has pencil 1gen i also dont know if this is a big deal...
Genevieve did you use paperlike foil? Do you recommended? I am wondering it is worth to buy to my Ipad
Hi, I need an I pad with a good cam plus a one in whick i can draw too, can you give the review on that along with it's pencil...which one is the best?
Can I use an Ipad 2nd generation to do digital art?
That was really helpful!! Thankyou 😊
Very interesting. Thank you! Subscribed
Well now with the procreate 5.2, now it’s a big difference.
Can I use it on normal 5th gen?
Hi Genevieve, I come here extra to watch this video about ipad, thought maybe I will get some information i am looking for and to ask you something about your ipad. First, do you using the paperlike kind of screen protector? If yes, how often you change your apple pencil's tip? Or you have better solution for it, as you draw a lot. And second, has you ipad also the screen light problem, I mean it goes dim and bright itself while using the ipad, especially procreate. From your tutorials I can't see or barely notice that. Thank you for your time and attention. :D
I do use a screen protector (you can find the link to all my drawing tools in the video description) 😊
Honestly, I only had to change the tip of my pencil once in like 3 years haha
As for the screen brightness, you might be able to fix that by going in your iPad's settings > Display & Brightness > deactivating 'True Tone'
im planning to buy a regular ipad9th, do u think it can run clip studio paint smoothly like it does with procreate?
Hello, Is ipad 9 good for procreate?
Can anyone still recommend buying the iPad Pro 2018 in 2022? I would buy it refurbished w/ a new battery but aren't four years a lot for the processor and stuff? And is its 11 inches screen big enough for drawing? :)
I still use the 2018 for Procreate and I'm super happy with it 😊 The new ones are a for sure faster/perform better for layers and stuff but I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker for me, at least not for the use I make of the iPad. I think 11 is ok, but 12.9 is definitely more comfortable.
@@GenevievesDesignStudio thank you so much!~
Honestly any ipad is good
I use a Apple mini. Picked it for its portability and ability to stick in a purse… so more like a sketch book lol
Thank you
I have the ipad pro 2018 11" too and I am hitting the storage limit an regularly Hit the limit for maximum layers in my 3000 x 3000 canvas. Even through the m1 Chip might be overkill but I want the RAM. My storage is currently 64gb and after almost 4 years it is almost full with a Few apps, a lot of procreate files + Videos, images, drawing reference images and the game Genshin Impact which takes like 20gb. Luckily the smallest storage Option is 128gb
I am Mostly going to buy the 12.9" Model but I need to try them in store a Few Times because i got used to the smaller Version. I feyr it might be too big or not as comfortable to Use in bed
Love the video !
You're GORGEOUS ✨
Thank you so much 🥰
Super helpful, thanks 😊
Hey Genevieve. My name is Amelia and I was asking if you can do a video name what on my iPad. 🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️
Ngl i draw fine w/ my finger but thx for the recommendations bcuz 1 was lost, I thought is was like an obligation to get the biggest to draw but I guess not,yay my savings won't completely lost😅
Ipad mini 4 works in procreate ?
I would like to draw and make designs for shirts and stickers, and I'm used to using Android style so which one is good?
My iPad is compatible for the newest version of procreate
about 2 weeks ago, I bought this viekk for about $50...I wonder could I use procrate with it? Any suggestions
how many layers has iPad Pro 128GB 2017? :-)
Depends on a few factors such as the size of the canvas you are working with!
As a graphic designer and illustrator I still don't know wich one to buy.
The ipad air 5 256 gb or the ipad pro 2021 256 gb ? Any recommandation ? It will be to draw and do my illustrations/comics book also
Did you decide? I've been looking into both and the new Air seems to be similar to the 2021 Pros.
hi i want buy a ipad 12.9 pro.... for procreate... i need how much storage ??
Thanks for telling 😁
Thanks! This was great
Hi thanks for your advice 🥰
This is so helpful!
Thanks Genevieve, especially helpful to hear your views regarding storage! Big hugs xx
Love it! As usual!
Is 64gb enough?
I love your earrings 😍
Hi genevie, thank you for explaining so clearly in a simple way. I have got a question regarding using screen protector. will it make a difference for drawing sensitivity by using the iPad screen protector? Any recommendations for screen protector.
Most likely not, since the pressure sensor is inside the pen, and not the screen :)
Do you still recommend the iPad Pro 11? Bc the rest is too expensive here in freakin europe.
Yes! I personally still use and love my 2018 12.9 iPad pro (bigger screen because I'm on it all. the. time. and I find it easier on my eyes)
@@GenevievesDesignStudio thank u! I’m going to buy the same one :)
@@GenevievesDesignStudio i’ve got one now. But why is it getting so warm(hot) when using procreate? Does yours do that to?
I love your channel :D
omg catchy soft voice
you give me ASMR'artist vibes
Can you please tell me paper like screen protector good or not to draw illustrations on iPad? can we use glass tempered glass for illustrations?
Hi Saket! I use an off-brand screen protector, you can find the link for it as well as for all the other tools I use in the the video description 😊
@@GenevievesDesignStudio thanks 😊 ❤️
Hi Genevieve! I have always noticed that my ipad pro (the newest model) gets hot while working on procreate. I usually begin feeling discomfort on my hands, and need to keep rotating it so the hot spot will be up and not down where my hand is drawing. I would like to know if this is common? I am brand new on digital drawing, so I have no idea! Thank you in advance and I love your videos!!!!!!
Oh wow, that's really quite strange... never happened to me, even though I draw pretty much all day long. Might be a hardware issue, I would reach out to Apple and maybe visit the Genius Bar (if one is available near you!) 🤍
@@GenevievesDesignStudio thank you!!
Do you have to buy procreate?
Yes
nice earings
Thank you 🤍
