I had the iPad Pro 2018 11 inch for 6 years and found I never really take it anywhere. I got the 13 inch m4 and wow, it makes such a massive difference having,the,extra space. I can actually use stage manager and keep reference photos up without feeling it’s taking up valuable space. I don’t think I can ever go back to 11 inch. But keep in mind 13 inch really is big. It’s not quite as comfy to use it in bed.
I have iPad 9th generation and I love it! I bought it one year ago and I enjoy using it for drawing. I mainly create game designs so I enjoy using apps like Procreate and Affinity Designer.
The amount of Procreate layers is the exact information that I have been looking for. Thank you so much, my 12.9 inch 2nd GEN is dying and I am trying to figure out which one’s gonna replace it.

I got 10th gen ipad half a year ago and it’s great for me. I work with a 3000x3900 canvas that gives me 41 layers, but I use 18 at max. The screen is not laminated and it’s not noticeable at all but it gets really dirty from fingerprints and dust. I think every ipad that supports apple pencil is enough for art.
Hello, sorry to say this but your information is incorrect. With my 5th generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro, 16GB of RAM, for an A4 document at 300 DPI on Procreate, you get 210 layers.

This is really very helpful. I own iPad 10th with 256gb storage. I'm a new learner, so I'll stay with this iPad for now. Once I become better I'll upgrade. I can take this position because I also have a Tab S9, if I didn't have the Galaxy I would automatic upgrade. Thank you for your great insight.
You can draw on any iPad with any Pencil but I recently switched to the iPad Pro m4 13inch with the new Pro Pencil and i would definitely recommend going for that option if you have the budget available and btw nice Video 🫶🏻
Been thinking about getting an ipad for procreate. Ive got a huion on my computer thats gone unused for.. years. Finally got the itch to start drawing again but dont want to be bogged down by cables. Looks like ill be saving for a few months to get an ipad. At least my search is shortened to two models. Really helpfull video.

i was on budget and i got ipad 10.9 2022 version and i do drawing stuff on it with procreate, its my second tablet in my life that i owned, first one was denver but i was child then but this ipad that i have now is enough for me to do media site stuff at school and own stuff
The problem with the new iPad Air 6 is that only works with the new Apple Pencil Pro, so if you already have an Apple Pencil, it won’t work, and you will need to pay 150€.
Thank you for this thorough breakdown. I have the IPad Pro first generation, which is 12.9inches and the price has doubled since then. I personally like to work big and I’ve never had an issue with travelling with the bigger screen. In fact I originally upgraded from an 11”iPad air to the pro because the size didn’t suit the way I draw. Based on that and really both 13” iPads are more powerful than the original pro I don’t think I can lose out.

I do take it with me to other places and it does feel harder to carry, so if that's something you plan to do, the smaller sizes are a lot more appealing. But that's a sacrifice i'm willing to make (it's also heavier)
I have the same ipad that you have right now! For my graduation present to myself, I'm going to upgrade to the new iPad Air that came out this year. But that'll be next year, so not only would it be a graduation present to myself, it would also be my birthday present!
I think the 11inch air is the best price to performance/gain ratio. out of all of them. For non artists/video-editors etc. etc. The standard iPad is also very nice.

I'm planning on sticking with the new ipad air '24 11th inch model with the new Apple pencil pro (purple edition) for my art and hobby lines like using it for drawing and photography and i saved up for both so I'm hoping to get it soon probably I'm thinking about getting it in September soon
My iPad 9th is 2.5 years old now. I’ve been using it without protectors. The screen got severely scratched. A lot of time the Apple Pencil can’t complete a stroke. It gets broken in between. So it’s frustrating. And sometimes the application just couldn’t take any more because of only 3 gigs of ram specially after the updates. I’ll get the m4 13 inches. I play competitive shooter games as well. But the iPad 9th started lagging on them as well. It sucks now. Time for an upgrade. The m4 is going to be my first iPad Pro.
Wouldn't the amount of layers increase with doubling of RAM for the iPad Pros? And if so, how would that affect the cost-benefit distribution between Air - Pro, and then within the Pro versions? Also: thank you
It might sound crazy but Ipad Pros actually have one important thing for Art, and that is 120Hz screens. I have an old Ipad Pro, from 2017, and I try to upgrade to a newer Air model, but I just cant go back to 60Hz

For me the best ipad for drawing with the best value for money is the ipad air 13 . it's far cheaper than the pro but give exactly the same performance for drawing and you still get laminated screen of 13 inch and 10 11 inch its small trust me especially if you have also a cintiq or intuos , last apple pencil with rotation and it start with 128gb of storage that are more than enough . you get also 8 gb of ram , m2 chip that its more optimized than the one you find in the old pro. i also checked the used market but the ipad pro 2020 is still pricey and will cost you like the ipad air 13 but you get smaller screen ( 12,5 ) , less features , no compatibility with the new pencil and updates usually are done until 5 to 8 years from the first release. it's like apple want that we buy new products basically.

Hi!! I hope I can help. If you are starting, the 9th generation is fine. However, the lack of layers will be a problem as soon as your art improves and you need more layers. If you can, check for the ipad 10th generation. It will be just a bit mroe expensive than the 9th gen, it uses the apple pencil 1, and has 4gb of ram, which will give you double the layers than the 9th gen.
Do you recomend getting the iPad Air M2 2024? I´m currently studying design for videogames (to be a concept artist or environment artist) so I'm thinking to buy it but idk if it will be good enough...
@@Anastasiaberryi tested both models at the store the pen latency is slower on Air in procreate or fresco, on Pro there is much smaller delay in strokes the line doesnt follow 0.5-1cm behind the pen easiest u can see that is in consistant medium speed strokes in Pro the line will follow under the pen not behind

iPad apps do not get access to all the RAM of the device, iirc it's limited to 5GB for one app. I guess that's why 16GB doesn't allow more layers.

the pen latency/lag of ipad pro is way better than air the air is just so slow and laggy 0 fun from drawing

@@Anastasiaberryi tested both models at the store the pen latency is slower on Air in procreate or fresco, on Pro there is much smaller delay in strokes the line doesnt follow 0.5-1cm behind the pen easiest u can see that is in consistant medium speed strokes in Pro the line will follow under the pen not behind

Unfortunately no, only new apple pencil pro will work with them. I found it out only after making this video.

@@btdxpm 2 years or so makes sense for apple because maybe by then mac's will come out with a touch screen but how would we be able to draw on our screen with a lap top the reason I bought an iPad Pro was to be able to draw on the screen
