You can do this dialogue the day Hero returns. The priest actually foreshadows it by mentioning that the graveyard has very strong spiritual energy, due to someone important returning. (Something like this, I don't remember the exact words)
actually the pastor says that spiritual energy grows every day *spoilers* *wait no need the video already has it* on the last day, things get really serious, even the guy in the graveyard starts fearing, saying that the spirits are preparing a welcoming party and that someone is grieving tonight, probably foreshadowing either the death of sunny or basil, but since both those can be avoided i think it just confirms the death of basil's grandma (basil comes back from the hospital and locks himself in his room without saying anything)

kel just straight up accepts getting ignored by people he loves, doesn't he? remember when he was surprised sunny actually came outside after calling him for months? remember when sunny proceeded to not speak to him for that whole day, and kel just says "that's ok!" kel is too good for everyone he loves to just ignore him, and that's the number one reason i can't do the shut-in route.
agreed except sunny not really speaking is how he feels comfortable when around people, and its something hes done ever since he was a child. some people rather not speak and its great that omori showed it without making it a big deal

Aubrey's dad left and her mom started drinking and doesn't pay attention to anything. Her friends abandoned her and she was alone. Hero stopped eating and taking care of himself cause he lost his girlfriend (Mari) and he blames himself for her death. Kel is ignored by loved ones except Hero (Hero did ignore him while he was mourning.) Basil has been getting bullied and dealing with the creepy dark things. Sunny shut himself in his house for years and didn't talk to anyone or go to school. These kids need therapy.
Lets not forget that after Mari’s death, sunny’s dad left him as it is evident as a figure in the dreamworld (representing his dad) says “I have no son”

As someone who’s been in situations were I wasn’t able to fully process or mourn the death of someone close to me, I heavily relate to Kel. I might be projecting (lol) but the fact he’s the only one who didn’t really “change” or the one who we never actively show intense emotions when it’s brought up.. it makes me believe he never got the chance to just.. mourn? To never fully grasp that she’s gone, or he has, he just pushes it down so he can just stay the same. While everyone else becomes so much more closed off, on the edge, emotional, even angry, he just.. doesn’t? He welcomes sunny back with open arms, no hard feelings, he fully supports sunny. And same can be said with basil and Kel. Even in this convo he puts importance on what hero is feeling being yelled at like that when you’re just trying to help DOES NOT feel good, but he just concludes he said something wrong. he sees it from hero’s prospective, never his own. Kel lost someone too, but everyone seems to forget that. Aubrey and hero (in this case) especially forget that too. Kel is very kind, always standing up for morals, etc, I don’t know why exactly he doesn’t change like the others but it could be that he was scared of all the change, right after losing a pillar too, that staying the same and having a life line to the past was how he felt safe, even if the life line was himself. Or maybe because he’s so kind, he saw how much everyone else was upset and felt selfish if he was to be upset about it. No matter why Kel is almost closed off in at least negative emotions, I love him. He seems like just you’re average dude-bro best friend type, but he’s really well written.
I think it's realistic: Hero was (probably) Mari's boyfriend, Sunny and Basil were involved on her death: I think Aubrey and Kel suffer the same *about the death of Mari*, the difference is that Aubrey started feeling alone and that nobody is caring about her, that's not a feeling about Mari's death, it's BECAUSE Mari's death... she didn't have any more people to talk, not even her family, that's why she started going the church... I blame her rebellion to her fathers and not Mari's death. Kel, didn't have anything that pushes him down anything more than Mari's death and being ignored by his family, he practice sports and its very extroverted (because of his feeling of loneliness) Bot nothing to blame himself, nothing to blame others for what's happening in her life, nothing to be really angry...

He just went sad like both Hero and Aubrey, but he remembered that Mari wanted everyone to be happy. Though it's hard, he finally did her wish, but he knows the rest of his friends haven't done that already. He may look like a punching bag, but he's always there, as if he was your homie no matter what. He kinda reminds me of Atsuro in SMT: Devil Survivor, where he is always there for him, whatever decision the protagonist makes.
He love life at every given moment and love people around him. And I know that feeling. So when you lose someone... you just don’t want people you love spend their life in endless sorrow. And you don’t want to spend you life that way. Also, one important thing: even if Hero said hurtful things Kel known how to ignore them. People often insult him but he never let these words break him. This guy may look naive but he more complicated when you think about it. I just respect him for just being himself. Being strong enough to break through hard times with smile. And help others to. (Sorry for mistakes if there any. My gramma is really weak. Foreign speaker here.)
Remember how Basil in the dream world compared Kel to a cactus? And said that cactuses didn't need much care or attention? I think that Kel is just very emotionally stable, and copes with things in healthy ways, and the cactuses hint toward this.

Roses are flowers that need a lot of care, so maybe that's the reason Kel's parents went right to Hero to comfort him, because he's more sensitive and fragile? On the other hand, Mari was his girlfriend, so it's understandable that he has a harder time of grieving than Kel...
I don’t know if I’m overthinking this or not, but the fact that Kel said that he had “blocked” out most of what Hero said to him on that night just really hurt me and hit deep. To think that Hero’s words were so hurtful to the point that his brain had to wipe them out as a coping mechanism. AND he literally kind of laughed it off when he said that his parents were ignoring him when he was crying as well and only comforting Hero made me so angry. Istg, Kel is the real mvp in this whole entire game. Without him, I don’t think the gang would ever recover or get back together. He really is the sunshine of the group.

I legit got angry with the parents because they comforted the older and not the younger. The younger could be traumatized, hurt, even betrayed! And all you care is that the older is better and let your younger suffer more trauma! I mean, yes, Hero did suffer depression, but Kel didn’t know any better. We all stand for Kel. Kel in Sunny’s Dreamworld can seem like a dumb character. But Kel in the Real World is a true friend. With the exception of Basil, everyone really change in the past 4 years.

Because think about it, Aubrey is sweet but also clingy when it comes to love/crushes. Same way how Sweetheart wants to get her mitts on Hero. A good point of Sweetheart is that she's head strong and so confident on herself which I think how Aubrey is. However, most of the time sweetheart is demanding and has a bunch of sprout moles at her disposal which kinda fits the present Aubrey (I think). Excuse my brain fart

For me doesn't matter how much you had suffered or if you have psychological problems, that fact doesn't take away that they committed a crime, while Basil didn't kill Mari, he came up with the idea of cover it with a horrible plan, and making EVERYONE near them horrible depressed. People may meme on him all the time, but Kel is literally the glue holding this group together after Mari died. It wasn't Hero, it wasn't Basil, it wasn't Aubrey, and it CERTAINLY wasn't Sunny. It was always Kel staying positive and urging everyone to move on. Respect, my dude. Respect.
God, Hero really must have blamed himself, thinking (SPOILER) that Mari had been hiding hurt from him and killed herself, he loved her SO MUCH and probably thought he was a bad boyfriend to her, and wondered everyday why she did it and what he could have done to stop it without knowing it wasn't a suicide. He probably had a moment of clarity and got scared his hurt might make him lose Kel in the same way and snapped out of it out of fear. I'm sure in the good ending when Sunny tells the truth Hero probably breaks down at first but is ultimately relieved and appreciates knowing the truth.
There are quite a lot of fics about how Hero might have reacted to the truth (definitely hurt) and honestly, it low-key feels cathartic to read. One of them is called Promises by towardthesun on AO3, I really recommend you read it!

He probably had a something himself. He was always blaming himself for not noticing that Mari had thoughts about killing herself (even tho that's not what happened but he didn't knew that) and also for everyone changing after he left wich might made him to create his own dream world
Yeah! Imo however, it'd be different to Sunny's coping in a way because Sunny used Headspace to repress the guilt and he kept telling himself it wasn't his fault, right? (Until the end where Omori and Sunny fight and Sunny is blamed and called worthless by Omori) I think Basil is kind of the cause of that because Basil did tell Sunny it wasn't his fault in order to keep his Best Friend. Anyways, my point is that Hero would be pretty hard on himself as he was told that Mari unalived herself and in his perspective would feel absolutely trash and probably worthless because 'he couldn't see Mari struggling' Maybe, perhaps he would've developed his own Something (maybe he already did?) and with the constant guilt taunting and teasing him, probably would've not been able to handle it well...
i kept crying the more kel opened up, he’s just as affected by this as the rest but bites his tongue thinking he’ll be ignored. like he was by his parents not having his best friend or brother by his side who knew what kel “blocked out” to keep himself sane :(
I wish they had scenes depicting the characters reactions. I get that the devs did it on purpose so the player can reach their own conclusion, but mine is probably not as wholesome as it should be.

Jeez this made me really dislike those parents of Kel and Hero. They could have calmed them both down, but apparently it's okay to pick favorites. Luckily that Hero is a good brother to Kel.
I mean, I can’t really blame them. Parents make mistakes and mess up, and Hero had been depressed and shut away for a long time, it’s natural they’d want to comfort Hero first, as they didn’t want his state to deteriorate further, and Kel had appeared unaffected by the situation on the exterior.
Wow. I need a comic or a fanfic with that scene playing. Like I wanna see an angry and depressed Hero along with a Kel trying his best to cheer him up but completely failing and getting upset, sad and scared.
This scene made me like Kel so much more. He’s my second favorite from the game now, but for a while I just kind of thought he was annoying and immature. Once I saw this I realized that everyone (in canon and out, including myself) valued Hero so much more than him. He came across as apathetic towards Mari’s death because he was so scared of doing something wrong, and because he thought that he didn’t deserve to mourn as much as everyone else. I honestly think that out Aubrey, Kel, and Hero, Kel was hurting the most at the start of the game because he never got the chance to mourn, and essentially lost three people close to him (being Mari who obviously died, Sunny who never left his house, and Hero who shut himself away in his room, focused solely on his studies, and then left for college)
I've heard that this is a very common reaction. Like when someone you love dies, you shut down completely in order to avoid feeling pain. Of course there are different reactions to it, but generally, a loved one's death messes with your mind HARD.
It’s not really hard for me to think that Hero fell into a deep depressive state like it is for everyone else apparently. Hero (and Kel too) has a tendency to cater more towards the feelings of other people and putting low priority in his own. Quite contrary to Aubrey. The difference between Hero from Kel though was that he assumed a responsible ‘caregiver’ role which, taking into account Kel mentioning how guilty Hero felt for thinking he could’ve done better to prevent Mari’s fate, makes perfect sense. We see examples of this behaviour with how Hero’s parents want him to become a doctor while he wants to be a chef but concedes, and being a perfectionistic, model employee for Mr. Jawkins despite not getting any monetary rewards for his labor. So the order from the people who seem to have moved on the most are: 1. Kel 2. Hero and Aubrey 3. Sunny and Basil (for obvious reasons)
I really feel bad about Hero and Kel at that scene. Hero thinks that he was never enough for Mari and Kel just wanted to help his older brother, although he also suffered a lot after Mari's death. I just hope that when Sunny tells the truth about his sister's death, everyone can find peace within themselves
I love kel so much Many people don't really care about him and say he just didn't really cared about Mari's death but thats really not true. He didn't allow himself to mourn only because he was more worried about his brother that himself and made his fake smile and cheerfulness become a pillar for hero to stand on. He also has more problems in his life. For example, he's not the best student and he's not as perfect in the eyes of his parents as hero is. When Sally was born he probably thought 9f it as a chance to become like hero. It's clear that his parents have a soft spot for hero since they completely ignored kel when hero snapped so that must also be hard for him. He's a really kind person and he really just cares more about the others and keeps smiling even when he's hurt He might think he's not perfect but we love him just they way he is :)
Kel deserves more love. It must be devastating to cry and have your parents only comfort your brother. I'm glad that Hero managed to comfort him though. Hero and Kel share such an amazing sibling bond.
Everyone’s like “oh kel best” but he is more then that,he doesn’t care bout himself, almost only others, he just does too much and doesn’t worry about himself. When he said hero started hugging and apologizing it broke me, he is almost the only one that cares, even his parents aren’t caring enough. I love kel,they just do everything for others and not enough for himself. They don’t deserve him, only hero does and even then, kel still cares too much. I honestly just wanna give him like an hour long hug. I’m crying while writing this
It makes me think about how Kel and Aubrey have similar circumstances, yet different responses. Both felt lonely after loosing half of their friend group. Sunny shut himself away, Basil became aloof, Hero became depressed (and eventually left for college), Mari was gone, and both Aubrey and Kel didn’t get along super well. Both didn’t have a good amount of support from their parents (Aubrey did have it worse). Kel didn’t want to live in a way that would’ve made Mari sad, so he tries to make new friends and be there for Hero. Aubrey became angry and eventually made new friends as well. Kel handled it so much better, and it seems like he puts on a smile to make those around him feel better. It hurts most in the neutral ending where he finally breaks down.

Gosh i could imagine how messy that night must have been for both of them. This is how i imagine the scene. because they share a room, that night they probably only turn on the light on one side of the room and it's probably not the main light there after the messy fight hero see he is surrounded by his parents on the side of room that have light turned on but then he looked on the other side of the room seeing kel crying all alone he probably snap out of it and get a fast replay of what he did to kel and because of that the guilt just came over to him and he rushed to kel without minding his parents.

I don't think sunny is emotionless. Omori is though. Sunny is just struggling with expressing his emotions because a lot of them have gathered together and he doesn't know how to react. Also because he knows the truth he might feel like he has no right to mourn for his dead sister

I feel bed for all of them. Hero, because the person he loved the most, who always helped him and was there for him commit suicide. Of course, he blames himself, he didn’t really know why she do that and how he could helped her 😔. After he attacked Kel, Hero realise that’s Kel was right, Mari don’t want to see him depressed. Then he try to go back to normal as best as he could. Kel, of course he was also sad, but also try to cheer them up. He may look dumb, but he’ was the smartest in this situation. Kel knew, that’s it doesn’t matter how long you wait, the Pain doesn’t go away. So he pushed his feelings aside, and try to help his brother. When he told Sunny, what happen, we see that Kel is also sad, but laugh it all off. He knew that the pain from Sunny is much worse than his own. Sunny, when he hear the story, he realised that’s his own mistake, that he doesn’t want to accept, make Hero depressed and aggressive. He know it’s because of HIM. But he can say it, probably Sunny is afraid to lose his best friend. I really love this part of the game, it’s nice to see how Hero, who usually try to hide his feelings, react to Maris dead. Also I love how strong and cheerful Kel is. This is one of the saddest scene in the game without creepy pictures or anything. Ok, that’s all what I wanted to say. It is very fitting that Kel is actually the undisputed strongest character in the dream world. You can do nearly 10k damage with him in one hit against a boss (look up how to do the Kel nuke with Run and Gun. You can also use a Sno-Cone on Kel for even more damage) and even more than that with a critical hit. Without Kel's obnoxious persistence and resilience it's not certain Hero would've ever gotten better, Sunny would've never left his Dream World, Aubrey would've never reconciled with the group, and Basil almost certainly would have killed himself. It's all because he REFUSED to give up on Sunny even when he saw that Sunny was moving away. Someone else in here said it, but it needs to be said again that Kel is so resilient to trauma and being ignored by the people he loves that he just laughs it off. He is in a funny way the true HERO (sorry couldn't help myself) of Omori, and his power is stronger than the power of friendship (release energy). However, he NEEDS friendship to achieve the absolutely bonkers power he can reach which is also very fitting. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

I guess both Sunny, Basil, and Hero blaming themself over Mari's death.. Aubrey blaming at the four of them for not be there... but Kel.. he never blaming everyone and stay positive... guess we don't deserve a great friend like Kel, huh...
This might have made the whole telling the truth thing a lot harder for sunny, I would imagine that after he does in the good end Hero gets furious at Sunny and possibly even Basil.
Gosh knowing how this is how Hero dealt with his grief the bad ending where a certain someone killed themselves makes me feel really worried about hero’s dialogue and how it looked.
It broke my heart when he said they completely ignored him and just went after Hero :( even though Kel was crying too. I know parents make mistakes but that one was rlly unforgivable
god i keep thinking about how all these things and feelings of every character could have reacted when they found out the truth of what sunny and basil did just because of one push. just because of a wrong turn all because of one thing that was framed as another.
When losing something or someone you love like A LOT especially when it never happened before really hurts, to the point you don't even notice you're losing yourself in the progress. Getting that feeling makes you really negative and violent when not treated immediately it might get worser than it already is. On the ending where Sunny told them the truth Hero probably stormed out of the room immediately to avoid doing things he wouldn't want to do to Sunny. Just because Hero is a kind person it doesn't mean he couldn't become the violent person. Emotions can be quite dangerous when it won over logic after all. 'Kind' people are easily tainted by negative feelings ;)
Don't tell anybody, but one of the animators working on the Honey Blue MAP (the call is posted on my channel) is planning to animate the scene of Hero and Kel in their bedroom. I'm not sure if it's going to be in the final product, but if you'd like to see that, you might want to check out the MAP when it comes out!
Kel can move on really fast. He can't not have fun and ignore at the brighter side of things. And despite this, he still understands what people go through, and why they can't really move on as fast. Honestly, kel is like the least deepest main character but he's also emotionally mature. Good boy honestly I can't not love him for not being that deep. Such well-written characters. He also reminds me of how this fandom is currently
I know this is why people say that Hero would take the longest to forgive Sunny, but for me after watching this, I am now further led to believe that he promised to forgive him even if he didn't completely in the moment. He can't help but see the pain of others. The fact that he ran to Kel when he needed him even in his anger shows how caring and empathetic he is, and I truly believe that Sunny and Basil were forgiven by their friends. I really think Omocat wanted us to know they were forgiven because of the parallels to Mari's death - particularly when Basil was nearly killed by Aubrey
Kel deserves better I think he should get his own story bcuz he rlly is an interesting character, he doesn’t he takes being ignored like it’s normal too he’s ignored by his family even when Mari died he was never comforted for the fact his friend died too. He also mentions how he didn’t rlly try to bring the group back together because he thought he would ruin everything it genuinely makes me upset.
Omocat recently said that "Kel has everything Sunny needs." Kel and Sunny both argued with their older siblings. But for one of them, they made up, and things returned more or less back to normal. God I love this game
The fact that his parents ignored him while he was crying and he just laughs it off tells a lot about him. He puts on a smile no matter the situation for everyone else's sake instead of his, and everyone overlooks the fact that he is suffering too.
On my first playthrough this was the scene that made me cry the most and I didn't even have the full context, there was just something about the way it was written. Yeah I cried like a snotty baby at the duet but this scene broke me so much
I cant believe his parents just left Kel like that. Ik hero was sad and that they wanted to support him. But Kel also feels sad about Mari's death too. And they just left him like that...….. I'm starting to think that Hero might be there favorite child :( I am Happy that Hero at least gave him a hug kel needs support too.

He repress all his sadness for other sake, he never asks for anything in return, being ignored is fine to him even though I guess he was hurt inside...He was the one who save SUNNY, HERO and all the others, he's a real hero... He deserves to be love so hard, he never complained about being left aside, he's just trying to not think of painful things by smiling all the time but he should cry sometimes... we love you KEL ❤
REAL OMG i also grew up as a happy cheerful kid and just brush off problems, my parents, they just dont see it, i open up to them on a really bad day where i feel like i cant take it anymore, and they are REALLY supportive :( they tried their best to help n my mindset of ''no one will care anyway'' completely changed (sorry for the random rant i just hate how people think kels parent are ''bad'' lol)
I cried the most during Kel's confession. Seeing the way Hero really struggled to cope and how Kel tried to relate to Hero just to get torn down by him. The way both Hero and Kel suffered and coped with Mari's death struck a cord with me that i cannot explain. I love these 2 characters as they mean a lot to me.

on the last day, things get really serious, even the guy in the graveyard starts fearing, saying that the spirits are preparing a welcoming party and that someone is grieving tonight, probably foreshadowing either the death of sunny or basil, but since both those can be avoided i think it just confirms the death of basil's grandma (basil comes back from the hospital and locks himself in his room without saying anything)

Sunny shut himself in his house for years and didn't talk to anyone or go to school.
These kids need therapy.
Lets not forget that after Mari’s death, sunny’s dad left him as it is evident as a figure in the dreamworld (representing his dad) says “I have no son”

As someone who’s been in situations were I wasn’t able to fully process or mourn the death of someone close to me, I heavily relate to Kel. I might be projecting (lol) but the fact he’s the only one who didn’t really “change” or the one who we never actively show intense emotions when it’s brought up.. it makes me believe he never got the chance to just.. mourn? To never fully grasp that she’s gone, or he has, he just pushes it down so he can just stay the same. While everyone else becomes so much more closed off, on the edge, emotional, even angry, he just.. doesn’t? He welcomes sunny back with open arms, no hard feelings, he fully supports sunny. And same can be said with basil and Kel. Even in this convo he puts importance on what hero is feeling being yelled at like that when you’re just trying to help DOES NOT feel good, but he just concludes he said something wrong. he sees it from hero’s prospective, never his own. Kel lost someone too, but everyone seems to forget that. Aubrey and hero (in this case) especially forget that too. Kel is very kind, always standing up for morals, etc, I don’t know why exactly he doesn’t change like the others but it could be that he was scared of all the change, right after losing a pillar too, that staying the same and having a life line to the past was how he felt safe, even if the life line was himself. Or maybe because he’s so kind, he saw how much everyone else was upset and felt selfish if he was to be upset about it. No matter why Kel is almost closed off in at least negative emotions, I love him. He seems like just you’re average dude-bro best friend type, but he’s really well written.
I think it's realistic:
Hero was (probably) Mari's boyfriend, Sunny and Basil were involved on her death: I think Aubrey and Kel suffer the same *about the death of Mari*, the difference is that Aubrey started feeling alone and that nobody is caring about her, that's not a feeling about Mari's death, it's BECAUSE Mari's death... she didn't have any more people to talk, not even her family, that's why she started going the church... I blame her rebellion to her fathers and not Mari's death.
Kel, didn't have anything that pushes him down anything more than Mari's death and being ignored by his family, he practice sports and its very extroverted (because of his feeling of loneliness)
Bot nothing to blame himself, nothing to blame others for what's happening in her life, nothing to be really angry...

He just have nothing. He just went sad like both Hero and Aubrey, but he remembered that Mari wanted everyone to be happy. Though it's hard, he finally did her wish, but he knows the rest of his friends haven't done that already. He may look like a punching bag, but he's always there, as if he was your homie no matter what. He kinda reminds me of Atsuro in SMT: Devil Survivor, where he is always there for him, whatever decision the protagonist makes.
He love life at every given moment and love people around him. And I know that feeling. So when you lose someone... you just don’t want people you love spend their life in endless sorrow. And you don’t want to spend you life that way.
Also, one important thing: even if Hero said hurtful things Kel known how to ignore them. People often insult him but he never let these words break him. This guy may look naive but he more complicated when you think about it.
I just respect him for just being himself. Being strong enough to break through hard times with smile. And help others to.

Remember how Basil in the dream world compared Kel to a cactus? And said that cactuses didn't need much care or attention? I think that Kel is just very emotionally stable, and copes with things in healthy ways, and the cactuses hint toward this.

Roses are flowers that need a lot of care, so maybe that's the reason Kel's parents went right to Hero to comfort him, because he's more sensitive and fragile? On the other hand, Mari was his girlfriend, so it's understandable that he has a harder time of grieving than Kel...
I don’t know if I’m overthinking this or not, but the fact that Kel said that he had “blocked” out most of what Hero said to him on that night just really hurt me and hit deep. To think that Hero’s words were so hurtful to the point that his brain had to wipe them out as a coping mechanism. AND he literally kind of laughed it off when he said that his parents were ignoring him when he was crying as well and only comforting Hero made me so angry. Istg, Kel is the real mvp in this whole entire game. Without him, I don’t think the gang would ever recover or get back together. He really is the sunshine of the group.

For me doesn't matter how much you had suffered or if you have psychological problems, that fact doesn't take away that they committed a crime, while Basil didn't kill Mari, he came up with the idea of cover it with a horrible plan, and making EVERYONE near them horrible depressed. Kel is the true protagonist of the game
God, Hero really must have blamed himself, thinking (SPOILER) that Mari had been hiding hurt from him and killed herself, he loved her SO MUCH and probably thought he was a bad boyfriend to her, and wondered everyday why she did it and what he could have done to stop it without knowing it wasn't a suicide. He probably had a moment of clarity and got scared his hurt might make him lose Kel in the same way and snapped out of it out of fear. I'm sure in the good ending when Sunny tells the truth Hero probably breaks down at first but is ultimately relieved and appreciates knowing the truth.
There are quite a lot of fics about how Hero might have reacted to the truth (definitely hurt) and honestly, it low-key feels cathartic to read. One of them is called Promises by towardthesun on AO3, I really recommend you read it!
Legit surprised Hero didn't beat Sunny half to death considering he spent an entire year probably blaming himself and questioning what he did wrong.

Anyways, my point is that Hero would be pretty hard on himself as he was told that Mari unalived herself and in his perspective would feel absolutely trash and probably worthless because 'he couldn't see Mari struggling'
Maybe, perhaps he would've developed his own Something (maybe he already did?) and with the constant guilt taunting and teasing him, probably would've not been able to handle it well...

I think the phrase "My thoughts will follow you into your dreams" meant that even if Mari was dead, she was still alive in Sunny's dream world, but she left Sunny anyways.
We'll never know if she really still there, somewhere, the forgiveness was part of Sunny's imagination.
I personally think the white Mari in the fog was not just a dream character, but her spirit trying to help Sunny.

This scene made me like Kel so much more. He’s my second favorite from the game now, but for a while I just kind of thought he was annoying and immature. Once I saw this I realized that everyone (in canon and out, including myself) valued Hero so much more than him. He came across as apathetic towards Mari’s death because he was so scared of doing something wrong, and because he thought that he didn’t deserve to mourn as much as everyone else. I honestly think that out Aubrey, Kel, and Hero, Kel was hurting the most at the start of the game because he never got the chance to mourn, and essentially lost three people close to him (being Mari who obviously died, Sunny who never left his house, and Hero who shut himself away in his room, focused solely on his studies, and then left for college)

I've heard that this is a very common reaction. Like when someone you love dies, you shut down completely in order to avoid feeling pain. Of course there are different reactions to it, but generally, a loved one's death messes with your mind HARD.

It’s not really hard for me to think that Hero fell into a deep depressive state like it is for everyone else apparently. Hero (and Kel too) has a tendency to cater more towards the feelings of other people and putting low priority in his own. Quite contrary to Aubrey. The difference between Hero from Kel though was that he assumed a responsible ‘caregiver’ role which, taking into account Kel mentioning how guilty Hero felt for thinking he could’ve done better to prevent Mari’s fate, makes perfect sense. We see examples of this behaviour with how Hero’s parents want him to become a doctor while he wants to be a chef but concedes, and being a perfectionistic, model employee for Mr. Jawkins despite not getting any monetary rewards for his labor.
So the order from the people who seem to have moved on the most are:
1. Kel
2. Hero and Aubrey
3. Sunny and Basil (for obvious reasons)
I really feel bad about Hero and Kel at that scene. Hero thinks that he was never enough for Mari and Kel just wanted to help his older brother, although he also suffered a lot after Mari's death.
I just hope that when Sunny tells the truth about his sister's death, everyone can find peace within themselves

Many people don't really care about him and say he just didn't really cared about Mari's death but thats really not true. He didn't allow himself to mourn only because he was more worried about his brother that himself and made his fake smile and cheerfulness become a pillar for hero to stand on. He also has more problems in his life. For example, he's not the best student and he's not as perfect in the eyes of his parents as hero is. When Sally was born he probably thought 9f it as a chance to become like hero. It's clear that his parents have a soft spot for hero since they completely ignored kel when hero snapped so that must also be hard for him. He's a really kind person and he really just cares more about the others and keeps smiling even when he's hurt
He might think he's not perfect but we love him just they way he is :)

Kel deserves more love. It must be devastating to cry and have your parents only comfort your brother. I'm glad that Hero managed to comfort him though. Hero and Kel share such an amazing sibling bond.

It makes me think about how Kel and Aubrey have similar circumstances, yet different responses. Both felt lonely after loosing half of their friend group. Sunny shut himself away, Basil became aloof, Hero became depressed (and eventually left for college), Mari was gone, and both Aubrey and Kel didn’t get along super well. Both didn’t have a good amount of support from their parents (Aubrey did have it worse). Kel didn’t want to live in a way that would’ve made Mari sad, so he tries to make new friends and be there for Hero. Aubrey became angry and eventually made new friends as well. Kel handled it so much better, and it seems like he puts on a smile to make those around him feel better. It hurts most in the neutral ending where he finally breaks down.

Of course, he blames himself, he didn’t really know why she do that and how he could helped her 😔. After he attacked Kel, Hero realise that’s Kel was right, Mari don’t want to see him depressed. Then he try to go back to normal as best as he could.
Kel, of course he was also sad, but also try to cheer them up. He may look dumb, but he’ was the smartest in this situation. Kel knew, that’s it doesn’t matter how long you wait, the Pain doesn’t go away. So he pushed his feelings aside, and try to help his brother.
When he told Sunny, what happen, we see that Kel is also sad, but laugh it all off. He knew that the pain from Sunny is much worse than his own.
Sunny, when he hear the story, he realised that’s his own mistake, that he doesn’t want to accept, make Hero depressed and aggressive. He know it’s because of HIM. But he can say it, probably Sunny is afraid to lose his best friend.
I really love this part of the game, it’s nice to see how Hero, who usually try to hide his feelings, react to Maris dead. Also I love how strong and cheerful Kel is. This is one of the saddest scene in the game without creepy pictures or anything.

It is very fitting that Kel is actually the undisputed strongest character in the dream world. You can do nearly 10k damage with him in one hit against a boss (look up how to do the Kel nuke with Run and Gun. You can also use a Sno-Cone on Kel for even more damage) and even more than that with a critical hit. Without Kel's obnoxious persistence and resilience it's not certain Hero would've ever gotten better, Sunny would've never left his Dream World, Aubrey would've never reconciled with the group, and Basil almost certainly would have killed himself. It's all because he REFUSED to give up on Sunny even when he saw that Sunny was moving away. Someone else in here said it, but it needs to be said again that Kel is so resilient to trauma and being ignored by the people he loves that he just laughs it off. He is in a funny way the true HERO (sorry couldn't help myself) of Omori, and his power is stronger than the power of friendship (release energy). However, he NEEDS friendship to achieve the absolutely bonkers power he can reach which is also very fitting. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

This might have made the whole telling the truth thing a lot harder for sunny, I would imagine that after he does in the good end Hero gets furious at Sunny and possibly even Basil.

Gosh knowing how this is how Hero dealt with his grief the bad ending where a certain someone killed themselves makes me feel really worried about hero’s dialogue and how it looked.
It broke my heart when he said they completely ignored him and just went after Hero :( even though Kel was crying too. I know parents make mistakes but that one was rlly unforgivable

When losing something or someone you love like A LOT especially when it never happened before really hurts, to the point you don't even notice you're losing yourself in the progress.
Getting that feeling makes you really negative and violent when not treated immediately it might get worser than it already is. On the ending where Sunny told them the truth Hero probably stormed out of the room immediately to avoid doing things he wouldn't want to do to Sunny. Just because Hero is a kind person it doesn't mean he couldn't become the violent person. Emotions can be quite dangerous when it won over logic after all. 'Kind' people are easily tainted by negative feelings ;)

Don't tell anybody, but one of the animators working on the Honey Blue MAP (the call is posted on my channel) is planning to animate the scene of Hero and Kel in their bedroom. Kel can move on really fast. He can't not have fun and ignore at the brighter side of things. And despite this, he still understands what people go through, and why they can't really move on as fast. Honestly, kel is like the least deepest main character but he's also emotionally mature. Good boy honestly I can't not love him for not being that deep. Such well-written characters.

I know this is why people say that Hero would take the longest to forgive Sunny, but for me after watching this, I am now further led to believe that he promised to forgive him even if he didn't completely in the moment. He can't help but see the pain of others. The fact that he ran to Kel when he needed him even in his anger shows how caring and empathetic he is, and I truly believe that Sunny and Basil were forgiven by their friends. I really think Omocat wanted us to know they were forgiven because of the parallels to Mari's death - particularly when Basil was nearly killed by Aubrey

Kel deserves better I think he should get his own story bcuz he rlly is an interesting character, he doesn’t he takes being ignored like it’s normal too he’s ignored by his family even when Mari died he was never comforted for the fact his friend died too. He also mentions how he didn’t rlly try to bring the group back together because he thought he would ruin everything it genuinely makes me upset.

Kel and Sunny both argued with their older siblings. But for one of them, they made up, and things returned more or less back to normal.
God I love this game
The fact that his parents ignored him while he was crying and he just laughs it off tells a lot about him. He puts on a smile no matter the situation for everyone else's sake instead of his, and everyone overlooks the fact that he is suffering too.
On my first playthrough this was the scene that made me cry the most and I didn't even have the full context, there was just something about the way it was written. Yeah I cried like a snotty baby at the duet but this scene broke me so much

I missed that scene so I'm really glad to read it now. I love how KEL isn't a "dumb character" who does bunter to seems funny. He repress all his sadness for other sake, he never asks for anything in return, being ignored is fine to him even though I guess he was hurt inside...He was the one who save SUNNY, HERO and all the others, he's a real hero... He deserves to be love so hard, he never complained about being left aside, he's just trying to not think of painful things by smiling all the time but he should cry sometimes... we love you KEL ❤

IMO Kel's parents are stil good people. Due to Kel's personality, they simply thought he wasn't suffering as much while Hero was in misery.
REAL OMG i also grew up as a happy cheerful kid and just brush off problems, my parents, they just dont see it, i open up to them on a really bad day where i feel like i cant take it anymore, and they are REALLY supportive :( they tried their best to help n my mindset of ''no one will care anyway'' completely changed (sorry for the random rant i just hate how people think kels parent are ''bad'' lol)
I cried the most during Kel's confession. Seeing the way Hero really struggled to cope and how Kel tried to relate to Hero just to get torn down by him. The way both Hero and Kel suffered and coped with Mari's death struck a cord with me that i cannot explain. I love these 2 characters as they mean a lot to me.
