I'd like to believe that hero really did hear Mari play the piano, so Mari's ghost really was there. Hero doesn't just walk in, he came running into the room, probably thinking he would find Mari. He even gets surprised that Sunny was there saying he scared him.
Out of all the moments in this masterpiece, this scene got me the most, even more than the good route’s final. I was so immersed. Gentle piano music, calming moonlight, and seeing Mari in the real world (even if just an illusion) made me experience such a bittersweet feeling. It was as if everything was going to be ok. Hero interrupting brought back the reality that Mari was gone. He put on a content face as if everything was alright after speaking to Sunny. Returning to the piano room and seeing Hero grieve quietly over his loss truly broke my heart. What an outstanding game.

When this scene came, there was no difference in the feeling we all shared as he read her lines. He said them in a gentle and somber way, making some of us tear up a little. What truly stuck with me was the way Hero crashed into the room after that moment. I was still so struck by it all that him entering startled me and I needed a bit before reading my lines. After the scene ended Sunny left the piano room, standing in front of the door to let us all breath a bit and take in the moment. i frequently wonder what was the reaction of aubrey kel and hero to sunny telling the truth in the good ending. We have kel, that probbably would be able to forgive sunny and understand his side about the situation, and probably would try to help others with dealing with it in his own way. We have aubrey, that in a first moment would be really confused and going trhough an emotional roller coaster for a lot of time, until eventually it settles and she tries to forgive sunny and move on (even because she almost did the same thing with basil). And then there is hero, and i genuinely can't predict this outcome. While he has this tendency to try and help his friends in tough times, help them get along, etcetera. But by the other, not only he loved mari a lot, but he spent litteral years blaming himself because of a lie. I really don't know how he would react

final duet did not make me cry. can you guess what did, though? it was this scene over here. i was spoiled with final duet, meaning i recognised it already. i could tell that the melody was lacking a violin. it felt empty. the violin part and the piano part are in seperate tracks, representing how they both are in seperate worlds. so close, yet so far. the thought of that made me just stop for a good few minutes and cry. this game is amazing.
What I question is, was that actually Mari's spirit playing the piano there before Hero walked in? Apparently Hero heard the piano playing from outside the room, but we never see Sunny go near it (and besides he probably can't play like that anyway), so _someone_ had to be playing it...
You know despite there being people who think it'd "ruin the games message", I think his scene and the ocean scene in headspace were both mari's spirit and not sunny's imagination. Besides I dont think this ruins any message because in the end sunny ends up forgiving himself, there being a ghost or not. The outcome does not change. Besides, mari as a ghost sounds sweet.
