Truly amazing. Thank you for making me realize that it isn't our fault for the low package. It is the nature of core. I have been getting this inferior feel because of the low package even though I think I am really very good with technical stuff.

Bro, What you said is exactly true for those who work in product based/OEM companies in core field. There is also service based field in core called as engineering services. It's again a support role like IT and doesn't have career development, less salary and no opportunities unless top level people will be known to us.

Because in this race to get high packages in IT sectors almost many of my friends have joined these and are doing fairly good, whereas for me even after doing Bachelor's from a reputed tier 1 college after a good academic career I have been sitting jobless for more than two years now. Feels like hopeless situation sir 💔

Same here. People who migrated to IT, are well settled and satisfied with their lives. On the other hand, my confidence has hit rock bottom. 2 years of struggle and you don't have anything.
I had the same thinking about this but it changed when I became a part of this industry , the thing is we can't generalise IT sector . Value of those people do decrease with time who do not update oneself with new technologies and the fundamental do remain same even if the technology changes so it's not impossible to update but it's challenging. IT does give people employment when there is shortage of employment in core and yeah if a project is running for a long time in IT company then they tend to keep the old employees rather than hiring new people same as that of core so yeah things vary they are not same throughout.

I had to point on one thing. Some skills are transferable even in Core companies. Especially Design. I myself have changed industries 3 times. Hydraulics to Oil and Gas and now battery. So its not that you can only work in one industry. Also its the brand where you work, that will matter. If you have worked with a company which has a decent brand name (Eg. Mercedes) for over 10 years, you are bound to get connections from 3rd party suppliers who are connected to other auto companies, so switching possibility is now there in Core sector also , but not as much as IT. However rarely I have seen anyone from core company being fired. There have however been cases of 0 increments which is soft firing as the person will himself start looking for jobs after that.

I am so confused.. I just completed my BTech from NIT. I prepared for Gate instead of placement. Qualified gate but with no job. So confused to prepare again for gate or choose IT field as most of my friends got job in that. This video cleared doubts to some extent.

@@ashishtorq No they don't give, atleast for civil I know for sure even in the best of the IITs you will get max package of 6-7 LPA in LnT where the work culture is very poor. Many of my friends left within a year or two and preparing for govt jobs which again is decreasing with the passage of time. It's a vicious cycle where we are trapped. I did my Bachelor's from NIT so I can say this for sure for civil branch atleast.
@@sidhantdas3180 civil branch is not just about placements. There are many options for you, once you complete your post graduation. You can set up business, can become assistant professor if you are from IIT also many other, It's better than being into IT sector.

Its easier said than done and with the redtapism in India it's just more difficult And becoming assistant prof is an option for every other branch, whosoever completes their pg and PhDs, so what's different for us there. You also know what is the real ground situation of the civil engineers nowadays. After exhausting all my options I am doing my MTech from IIT Kgp where last year the condition of placements were worse, but we have to take that chance because no other options. You are saying IT sector is worse may be because you don't have friends who are doing better in big names like Microsoft, Google. This video is somewhat misguiding , the value a senior engineer has in the industry is humongous, please don't comment on any thing that you have not experienced yourself, just take a look at job portals and you will realise the value of a senior engineer in industry.
I'm a chemical engineer who joined a core O&G EPC company which is supposedly the one of the biggest in the world. I was paid 35k PM as a stipend. Few things that I have observed in 1 year: 1. It will take a lot of time to actually learn the work. Designing of critical equipment is often entrusted to experienced ppl. You will be given the most boring to do but that's how you learn things. For mechanical engineers it will take minimum 8 to 10 years for developing PMS and plot plan. 2. My dept strength is just 40 with a AVG experience of 18 years. Yaha bheed Ka hissa nhi ho main. Naturally politics is low and it is easier to rise and shine. 3. Availability of work is a issue. During pandemic we weren't getting oil and gas projects. Most of the people were sent on leave without pay but they didn't fire anyone. 4. I can definitely say peace of mind is thére compared to IT guys. 5. Salary at junior level are pathetic. I dont know about senior level. 6. My skills out of this industry is good for nothing. I don't have many options of switching because only 7 8 MNC like Bechtel, l&T, Schlumberger do business in my field. Thinking to join MBA because it will give me more options in life. Ps: attempted gate twice with no luck in PSUs. Dropped the idea of mtech as I was already in core industry and I'm not enjoying the work. Any advice is welcomed

Either go for MBA or Tier 1 software. Tier 1 software earns the highest throughout their lifetime.
