My son is an ex - Veteran and he was in Scotland and he was wearing an expensive watch and he had been in a pub with his mate and he got jumped neadless to say the guys didn't get the watch and ended up trying to get away. He didn't bother to report it as he still had his watch.. What a life when you can't wear what you like..Stay safe out there and I love watching your videos. By the way I used to do security in Central London and the amounts of shoo lifters I would stop were mainly women wearing long skirts with lots of pockets in. Thankfully I am always aware of my surroundings ears and eyes always BOTLO..

I think part of the problem is that you become complacent over time. When I bought my first Rolex I was wandering around wondering if someone was going to chop my arm off for it. Over time it just became my watch that I wore every day. Now I have horses for courses watches, and swop them out based on where I am going. It’s sad, but I think prevention is the way to go, and the experience would be more traumatic than losing the watch I would think.

Things have definitely changed. I bought a 116613LB in 2013 and wore it and a 16750 daily in central London. Worn with t shirts, open and visible. I’d regularly use the jubilee line from Canary Wharf all the way past Bond Street and be in and around south Kennington. I lived at royal Victoria docks and would travel on the overground there, through very poor areas and never once had any issues. But you get to 2017/18 and this all started to change. People I know have been robbed in the city and central areas, all of them aware of London crime but still fell victim to most likely spotters in restaurants or outside them. It’s really changed and now I completely cover up and most likely close to wear something on leather and of little value relatively. To think I use to wear something as in your face as a TT sub in these areas in a tee, is unthinkable now.

Having had a similar upbringing, making some good and bad choices, in my fifties I found my passion for writing. I self publish on Amazon, with true crime such as Who Killed the Essex Boys, and Who Killed Stephen Ward. I also write fiction. My latest novel is a comedy called, We Appy Few, about a group of wideboys who go off to fight the Battle of Agincourt. Its also about men being men, and what it means to be English.

This reminds me how comfortable I am about the sector of the watch collecting hobby I circulate in. No way could I ever afford a luxury watch but I've no desire to either. My 3 'working watches' are:
    Casio F-91W
    Orient bambino 38mm
    Seiko 5 sports 38mm
I then have a collection of watches that stay in my cabinet but none are expensive.

    Super stuff,
I know your area very well as friends have a apartment in Crookham rd (which was also linked to the Dando murder)
. It was a bit of a trip down memory lane and the Craven Cottage episode brings back memories of my first ever visit to a proper football club back in the 60's just a couple of miles away to the East.! and as you say that memory stays with you forever and when you choose a club as a boy it sticks.
You're way posher than me being born and lived my early life in Brixton but we overspilled out in the mid 60's although I moved back to Nunhead in the early eighties but moved out to the shires a few years later as with a new family we couldn't afford a house in London . However most of my work then was still in town so travelled in every day
Like you, I fell out of Love with London many years ago and whilst it remains deep in my heart, it's simply not the place we knew growing up and as a city it's been sacrificed on the alter of some misplaced Utopian dream which is fast turning into a nightmare. Yes it has it's nice spots and the history is truly amazing but the rest of it (90%) is a truly dreadful place to be. But for me the rest of the UK will go the same way. Most cities are already much the same regards crime and it can only get worse. hence why I left.
I now live in Tenerife which for me is as close to the summer of 1976 in the UK as anywhere can possibly be, so it's my home for probably the rest of what I have.
    Thanks again

Hey Paul, really interesting video. I came across your channel today and it was a really interesting video for me as I live in Putney, and often walk past Fulham FC to Hammersmith bridge and back. Some areas are defo safer than others around SW London. Defo worse after dark. Interesting clip on tiktoc recently that some luxury shops around Knightsbridge are giving customers cheap branded bags to carry their expensive purchased goods, in order to hide the name of the top branded goods they are carrying. The thing here Paul is I did some research on the UK property market as it currently is. London housing prices dropped more during 2023 than any other area in the UK. due to covid many professionals (most of who live in the commuter belt) now work from home. this has meant a massive drop in commuting to london....and you know what people who live in london are beginning to realise.. "hang on a minute I do not have to commute into london any more to earn my living but could move to a beautiful home say in Devon of Cornwall"..prices in london will IMO continue to drop until it all levels off. My advise to london home owners is if you can work from home do so...but you better act NOW

Shame about some of these things that are happening these days and in the past, I have been around some of the streets you mentioned reading gas & electric meters in the mid 2000's. Yes, I can understand that thing about going back to your 1st or second home and the other feelings you can have. And grief is something else that can hang on to you.
King's Road is cool and as you mentioned the "old bill" should have kept something under their hats and just kept their eyes "peeled" to deter and catch these criminals.

Evening Paul. Many thanks for your story, and some "social history" I take your point about people wearing expensive watches in the "hot-spots" you highlighted. When I was in the Merchant Navy if you had a "luxury" watch it was 100% safe to wear it in Singapore, but Hong Kong was a different story:- take a stroll round Wan Chai at night and you'd probably get mugged/robbed. If I ever venture into London (usually passing through or catching a train) my watch (which isn't "luxury" by any means!) either doesn't get worn or is kept in my pocket. I think London is a special case, being so cosmopolitan, with so many tourists, who as you said aren't aware of the dangers. I will forgive you for burning my eyeballs with the green Urus! And Sophia Loren......Mama Mia !! Thanks again.

I've have been to Craven cottage when my team Wolves played Fulham. I found the Fulham fans friendly. Yes crime of any nature is a scourge of society in any town or city across Great Britain. I like your passion and vigor you can see it in your eyes and your feelings come across as love of London, your roots, love of watches, campaign on watch crime is so evidently to see.very moving and enjoyable to watch there are still some decent folk out there. Wolves FC have a great London fan base group that goes home and away to watch wolves around 500. Just to add - another topic that would be interesting…
The supply chain of what happens to the watch after the robbery? What percentage of the watches value would the thief potentially get? Where and how the watch gets taken out of the UK? Etc
Over here, they’ve recently caught some guys trying to take out several watches and caught them at the airport.

When you say two of the guys were wearing Tag's, I guess you are not talking about Formula 1 Chronographs? 🤣

A view from the UK. This is the first video of yours i have come across and really enjoyed it. The reason is that i'm a londonner from a family in Tottenham - yes, yes i know, heard it all before. I was born in 1951 and we moved to Welwyn Garden City, a newly built town in Hertfordshire. Even lived in Brighton Kemptown for over 15yrs, how ironic until 1998. All of your memories going to Craven cottage were very similar to me going to White Hart Lane. We had "swing steps" that hung by 2ft lengths of rope from the retaining wall metal topping down at pitch level where the terrace finished 4ft below the pitch level. We kids were passed over the heads of the adults to get there. (We'd have surreptitious "wee's" 'cos no one would be able to see us). We would think nothing of running onto the pitch to touch our heros after the game like Jimmy Greaves, Danny Blanchflower, Dave McKay. Do you remember John White who was killed by lightening while playing golf, great inside right. The team used to run out accompanied by "Glory, Glory Tottenham Hotspur" playing over the tannoy. Then going home to listen to the results on the black and white telly. Went back once. The tenements were gone, Chestnut road where we lived is now part of a gyratory system. Tottenham High Road is not the same. It's all we have left are those young innocent memories when we were kids. D'ya remember the fizzy drink 7UP in a flip top bottle from the corner shop? 7 old pennies. Smiths crisps with a small blue wax bag of salt 3 old pennies. Going "up West" was, for us "Northerners" a great adventure. I'll stop now or i'll go on forever. Thanks for the memories as they say and keep it it up as my wife says.

Hey Paul, literally went to Fulham FC that same day with my brother who was in London for the first time and afterwards we went to kings road and I spotted probably the same lady wearing a 5711 and that was also my first thought. I must have missed you for a few seconds
